Monday Misc.
So, how about that Super Bowl?
Wait, who am I kidding? I didn't watch it. Actually, that's not entirely accurate. I was in the room painting my finger nails while Mr. Jaye watched it. But, look, I'm generally apathetic about sports. I live in Dallas and can't tell you the coach's name. I'm glad New Orleans got this boost, but otherwise I couldn't care less about football. And don't get me started about the commercials. I don't really get why, when 364 days of the year we go to great lengths...

Quote of the Day
In societies with fewer opportunities for amusement, it was also easier to tell a mere wish from a real desire. If, in order to hear some music, a man has to wait for six months and then walk twenty miles, it is easy to tell whether the words, "I should like to hear some music," mean what they appear to mean, or merely, "At this moment I should like to forget myself." When all he has to do is press a switch, it is more difficult. He may easily come to believe that wishes can come true.

GRRR Intro
Welcome to (almost) March and the official beginning of Gonna Re-Read Red Month. I have to admit from the get go that I had some big plans for this that haven't panned out. When I initially proposed the idea of giving summaries of each section of the book, I'd planned on doing vlogs for each quarter. I had visions of puppeteering, mime and interpretive dance to wow you.
Then I remembered my deadline.
The truth is as much as I'd love to spend the next month vlogging and having fun pimping the...

Stop the Presses
Ooh! After I posted this morning, I made an exciting discovery. A local magazine interviewed me a few weeks ago about my books and they've posted it online.
The bonus? They've also posted an excerpt from chapter one of THE MAGE IN BLACK!
Wednesday Stuff
Hello, my pretties. It's a dreary Wednesday in Texas, which is a good thing because a sunny day would distract me from writing. See? I can find a silver lining.
Originally, I wrote a post about my schedule for the next three months, but I ended up scaring myself and deleted it. So today we're gonna discuss random stuff.
Item the first: At noon (CST), Apple is supposedly announcing the iTablet. I don't know about you, but I'm thinking whatever it is can't possibly live up to the hype. I mean...

Vampires Rule Late Night
So I've decided I've totally been missing out on a promotional gold mine for RED-HEADED STEPCHILD. If you've been alive for the last couple of weeks, you've likely heard about the brouhaha surrounding Jay Leno and Conan O'Brien.
Since the media isn't exactly what one would term "original" in their puns and headline witticisms, inevitably Conan has been called a red-headed stepchild so much it's become cliche.
But you know what's awesome? I happen to have a book on the shelves that shares a...

Resolutions
I guess it's a good thing I never got around to making those New Year's resolutions. Why? Because if I had then somewhere on the list I would have included "Be a better blogger." And since it's already January 12 and this is my first post of the year that means I would have already failed. Luckily, I avoided failure by not even trying. Let that be a lesson to you all.
So far 2010 is shaping up to be an interesting year. My grandmother passed away last week. This was my father's mom. My best...

2009 in Review
Today is the last day of 2009. It's also the last day of my year of being a debutante novelist. Personally, 2009 has been full of benchmark moments for me. I've learn a lot about writing and publishing over the last twelve months, and I've also learned a lot about myself. So I thought I'd share with you the highlights and lessons of 2009.
First, some 2009 stats:
Two: Releases–Red-Headed Stepchild and "Vampsploitation" in The Mammoth Book of Vampire Romance 2
Two: Total rewrites of The Mage in...

Holidays Ahoy
Happy Friday! Busy day today. Spawn had his holiday party at school this morning and Mr. Jaye is returning home from a business trip this afternoon. Since it's my last day for three weeks without a kiddo underfoot, I'm trying to make some major headway in the book.
But fear not, I have a couple of treats for you.
First up, I wrote a new blog post for Orbit's blog. It's titled The Twelve Days of an Urban Fantasy Heroine. Go check it out. I'm sure you'll all be adding it to your caroling list...

Open Thread: Fave Books of 2009
Hi, peeps. Have a busy day ahead, so I thought I'd do something a little different today. Since lots of people will be buying books for their friends and family this holiday season (and if they aren't they should), I thought we'd have ourselves a little open thread action. In comments, share your favorite books of any genre this year.
Here are some of mine:
Tempest Rising by Nicole Peeler
Soulless by Gail Carriger
Boneshaker by Cherie Priest
Road Trip of the living Dead by Mark Henry
The Cold Kiss ...
