Decade

Ten years ago today, a naive young man made a pact with the devil. Her unholiness wore a white satin column dress and moonstones. Instead of the customary signing in blood, the two sealed their bargain with a kiss. And when it was done, the young man smiled. Because he might have sold his soul to the devil, but he'd stolen hers with that kiss.

Happy 10th Anniversary to Mr. Jaye!

And I'm Spent …

So last week I turned in The Mage in Black to my editor. Now, I should say that my editor is probably the fastest reader I've met (next to my agent), but the week wait to hear her verdict was not without nail biting. The thing is, this was my third rewrite of the entire book. The reasons for all the rewrites are many and probably very boring to everyone but me, so I'll spare you the details. However, you'll understand that I had a lot on the this one. Anyway, yesterday I got the call that my edi

Contest Deadline

Happy Hump Day! Not much exciting going on with me in real life right now. With Spawn out of day camps for two weeks, I'm spending all my time carting him to swim lessons and keeping him entertained. Just like the good old days before he was in big boy school, I'm doing most of my work at night. It's fun to have a little time to work on some non-contract just-for-fun projects while I wait for the verdict from my editor, though.

In other news, the deadline for the  In Vino Veritas contest at the C

Quail Ridge Interview Video

Forgive the radio silence, but I've been under deadline for The Mage in Black (out April 2010). The first good news is that it's done. The second good news is that I am so happy with this story. Now i can take a deep breath and get back to blogging regularly.

Some of you might recall that I went to Raleigh a couple of weeks ago for an event at Quail Ridge Books. The event was organized by Stacey Cochran and moderated by my good friend Robin Muira. Anyway, we filmed it, and I thought you might enj

In Vino Veritas

Happy Friday! I'm coming out of extreme deadline mode for a quick new flash:

.

Next Wednesday, July 8, the new Clarity of Night flash fiction contest opens. Jason posted the contest info early though, so be sure to stop by and check out the theme and the rules. The theme this time is based on something from Red-Headed Stepchild, and I'm thrilled be co-judging the entries with Jason. The contest will be open to entries from July 8-15. There will be prizes for the judges' choices, as well as for re

Air Sickness and Deadline Dread

If I never get on another airplane, it will be too soon. The older I get, the more anxious I get about flying. The catch is, I love to travel. But these days, I stumble off the plane covered in cold sweat with my knuckles aching from clutching the armrests. Not fun. Luckily, I only have one more trip planned this year for a friend's wedding in August. If it wasn't such a long drive to Indiana, you better believe we'd be road trippin' that mother.

Anyhoo, despite my flying anxiety, the event is R

Heavier but Happier

Ciao, my friends! I’m back from my trip and recovered from jet lag. Let me just say, Italy was amazing. Tuscany is heaven, and I have lots of new ideas swirling around in my noggin for future stories. The break from writing and the internet did me a world of good. Of course, so did a week alone with Mr. Jaye in the gorgeous Tuscan hillside. Instead of giving you a day-by-day account of the trip, I condensed the experience into metrics.

Best meal: All of them

Wine consumed: several litres

Passages

Happy Friday, sinners!

Today is Spawn’s last day of kindergarten. I’m kind of sad about this. Sometimes I wish I could just freeze him at this age. He’s so fun and funny. Also we’re able to outsmart him 70% of the time now. Something tells me this child will be plotting a world domination by puberty–and succeeding.

Anyway, in addition to going to a party at his school followed by a dentist appointment, I am also trying to get myself organized to pack. The biggest decision I face–other than how m

Packing it Up

Happy Monday! This should be a good, if hectic, week around Casa de Wells. It’s six days until we all leave for our vacations–Spawn’s going to Grandma’s and Disney World and Mr. Jaye and I are taking an anniversary trip to Italy. It’s also Spawn’s last week of school. So in addition to whirlwind rounds of laundry, packing, and trying to figure out who’s going to keep my dog for 11 days, I also have school picnics and stuff.

Oh, yeah, and I’m also working on revisions. Mr. Jaye has forbidden me to

And now a message from our sponsor

So I’ve been thinking about new ways to promote Red-Headed Stepchild. I already belong to every social networking site out there, I have this blog, there’s ads, interviews, guest blogs, etc. But you know what I haven’t done yet? A book trailer.

But not just any book trailer. In my opinion, many are lame. No offense, but a bunch of random pictures with words and music just don’t cut it for me. I wanted something different. So I decided the direct approach is best, and I commanded recruited Sabina
