Wherein I Try to Explain …

… How I Write.

Bear with me, people. We're entering the heart of darkness here. Or rather, the brain of darkness. Believe me, a visit isn't nearly as scary as living here.

So I called my editor today. It had been a few weeks since we've checked in and I was in need of a little brainstorming advice. What this really means is I am procrastinating on starting this book and I needed a kick in the pants. Since my editor is awesome and I don't abuse my phone privileges often, she humored me.

Weening From the Cyber Teet

Can we talk about the Internet for a moment? First, I think we can all agree the Internet is great. It's hard to imagine that a little more than a decade ago I got my first email account. There was no google, I didn't have a cell phone and I actually had to speak to my friends to know what what happening in their lives. Now? If it's not on Facebook, it didn't happen. (I'm exaggerating, but not by much).

As a writer, I rely on the Internet for so many things: Networking, promotions, research, etc.

Pitiful and Craving Parmesan

Couple quick notes today. First, I have been attacked by some nefarious virus. It's more than a cold and less than the flu–a Fold? Hmm. Either way, I hope it goes away soon. Spawn just went back to school and I'm ready to dig in and get some major work done on a couple of projects before I head to Dragon*Con.

Well, after weeks of peer pressure and an impending sense of doom at missing out on something cool, I finally decided to bite the bullet and go to Dragon*Con.

For those who haven't heard of it, D*C is a huge science fiction/fantasy convention that happens in Atlanta over Labor Day weekend. Last time I looked, no less than ten hotels were sold out for this event. That's a lots of geeks, people. And we all know geeks are my people. So I'm going.

Dallas Comic Con Wrap Up

So last Saturday, I headed to the Richardson Civic Center to attend Dallas Comic Con. As I mentioned before, this was my first comic con ever and I wasn't sure what to expect. When I pulled up about 45 minutes before the show was set to open, the line was already really long. I was greeted warmly inside by the con volunteers, including James, who ended up being my sidekick for the rest of the day.

Dallas Comic Con

So last week, I reconnected with an old acquaintance form high school on Facebook. Turns out he's the coordinator of Dallas Comic Con. He was nice enough to invite me to come along to the con and sign copies of Red-Headed Stepchild. I'll admit I've never been to a comics convention before and I'm not really sure what to expect. But I'm looking forward to it and the possibility of rubbing shoulders with Barry Bostwick and Dean Stockwell.

Happy Friday, folks. I'm celebrating a bit today for two reasons. 1) I turned in my edits for The Mage in Black last night. 2) I got a new haircut. I'm not sure which makes me happier. The edits thing is great because now I can turn my attention to plotting Green-Eyed Demon. The second is awesome because, well, the ladies know how much a new 'do can change ones' outlook. Either way, it's a good day.

The Day Job and Possible New Night Job

As I write this, I'm sitting at a table at a bookstore. Lately I haven't been able to concentrate at all at home. Too quiet. Even though I'm wearing headphones and sitting alone at the table, being around other people always makes me more productive. I cam ehere to day to work on two projects. The first is the final edits for The Mage in Black. The second is a side project I'm working on with a friend, which is not a novel.

On a completely different note, I took a pole dancing class last weekend.
