Monkey Mind
I should know better than to give myself some time off. I'm waiting on a revision letter from my editor and am officially in between contracts for the time being. So I figured, hey, I deserve a little break. The problem is I don't do relaxation well. Procrastination? I'm a champ. But I can't goof off without the guilt involved for some reason. Call it a hangover form my Catholic upbringing. Call it neuroticism (is it a coincidence that word sounds so similar to "eroticism"?) I don't care...

Collaborators and Conspirators
You'll often hear writers crow about how writing is a solitary profession. But I'm not so sure.
Yes, when we're in front of the keyboard it's just us and a bunch of characters who live in our subconscious. The choices we make in our stories are our own. It's scary sometimes, but also thrilling. However, no author is an island.
The truth is I couldn't write my books without Mr. Jaye. Almost daily I'm using him as a sounding board for story ideas. Usually it's not that I need a solution but to...

Good Housekeeping
So there's this weird thing that happens after you turn in a book. After a few days of post-deadline-induced shock (OMG I did it!), your brain leaves the realm of fiction and returns to the land of real stuff. That's when you finally notice the mountainous pile of laundry, the dust bunnies under your couch, the fridge filled with nothing but furry leftovers, wilted veggies and expired condiments.
If you're like me, this realization sets off a flurry of activity. So this weekend was filled...

Catching Up
Good lawd! Has it really been two weeks since I checked in? I have valid excuses, which we'll get to in a moment. But first, I'm happy to report that I've sent the complete manuscript of Green-Eyed Demon to my agent for a read. Assuming he doesn't hate it, it's on to my editor soon. Yay!
For those who've asked, GED is scheduled for a March 2011 release. Before you groan, please keep in mind that it takes a publisher at least nine months to get a book ready for publication. In addition to...

Speed Reading and Hiatus
Happy Tuesday, peeps!
Just wanted to stop in and thank everyone who's already purchased The Mage in Black. Your emails and comments on the story have been really fun to read. I only have one complaint: You guys read too fast!
Don't get me wrong, I'm thrilled my stories keep you up at night. The thought of you burning the midnight oil to find out what happens next gives me a little sadistic thrill. But you have to keep in mind it takes me a hell of a lot longer to write those page-turners than i...

Seattle/Portland Wrap Up
Wheh, I'm finally out of my post-Seattle coma and ready to fill you in on the trip. First, let me say, the entire week was a blast. An exhausting blast, but a blast nonetheless.
Let's get to it, shall we? (note: I have several pictures of the trip but WordPress is vexing me today so I'll add them later. In the meantime, Richelle Mead and Jeanne Stein have a few up.)
Tuesday, March 30: Arrive at Seatac and greeted by the lovely Richelle Mead. It's not every day a woman gets chauffeured around...

Update on Ebooks
Hello from cloudy Seattle. Today I'm sitting in a Barnes & Noble cafe with Mark Henry. He's working on some critiques and I'm working on new pages for Green-Eyed Demon. It's a break in a pretty packed schedule this week. So far I've signed probably eighty copies of The Mage in Black between stock singings and the official signing at Powell's on Tuesday. Tomorrow we go to Norwescon for a coule of days on panels, signings and readings. I heard it's a crazy convention, so I'm looking forward to ...

Interrupting for a Schedule Note
I've just realized that I leave in one week for my great Pacific Northwest adventure. I'll be in Seattle and Portland for a week doing multiple events and generally hanging out with the bad influence of Team Seattle (Mark Henry, Richelle Mead, Cherie Priest, Kat Richardson). I wanted to go ahead and post my schedule now so it's out there for anyone who might be in the area. For those not in the area, please to ignore this post. And get back to commenting on the GRRR Finale post to win a copy ...
