Three Movies You Must Watch With Your Baby Girl

Well, this post is entirely from a mother, an occasional mom blogger in me:)

I love to spend quality time with my little one and you all must be aware of how girls are influenced by the Barbie stories and Disney princesses at this age, and my daughter is no exception.

We have watched Frozen and Rapunzel over and over again, I have lost the count also but what amuses me is the fact that every time we watch it, my daughter is equally excited as if she is watching it for the first time. We have been watching so many movies together, but three movies really inspired me, yes I really loved watching these three movies and yes I must admit I have been watching it again and again with my daughter. So here is the list:

These are princesses who didn’t wait for their prince to rescue them.

1.Moana

First of all, you will see the most amazing and breathtaking animation in this Disney Movie. The wonderful animation and beauty of nature will leave you aww-struck. It has got some amazing soundtracks as well. It is a family movie, a movie of finding who you are and what is your purpose?

A story of a little girl and her connection with the oceans. A story of how fearless and focused she is to conquer her dreams. How she learns about the voyagers they were before and how a demigod named Maui stoled the heart of ta fiti and made mother nature angry and destructive. Moana restores the heart and mother nature blesses her and also forgives Maui. Do watch this movie to experience the authentic Hawaiin kind of culture portrayed in it, do watch it for the beautiful graphics and animation and to see how focused and fearless Princess Moana become to achieve her aim.

2.Merida- Brave

The movie Brave portrays princess Merida, an efficient Archer, who doesn’t believe in ancient systems and loves to stay ordinary.  This movie depicts an amazing mother-daughter bond. Merida is determined to change her fate and defies an age-old custom sacred to the unruly and uproarious lords of the land: massive, surly Lord Macintosh and cantankerous Lord Dingwall, unleashing chaos in the kingdom. When she turns to an eccentric Witch, she is granted an ill-fated wish and the ensuing peril forces Merida to harness all of her resources—including her mischievous triplet brothers—to undo a beastly curse and discover the meaning of true bravery. It is a simple movie but has a very deep message. Merida taught us you do not need to fall in love with a prince to have a happy ending.

3.Mulan

Young Mulan is distraught to learn that her weak father must join the army to fight the invading Huns. Unwilling to endanger his life, she disguises herself as a man and joins the army in his place. Her character is sweet, smart, strong, noble, and the most modest of all to inhabit a Disney cartoon. Based on a Chinese folk tale about a teenage girl, defying not simply convention, but her family’s desire that she abide by the plans of a matchmaker and marry whomever she selects for her. But she had some other plans to protect the honor if the family and her father’s pride.

It is a pleasant watch and I thoroughly enjoyed watching it.

So these were my three best discoveries in my daily binge watching animated movies with my daughter

Going back to the start

Oh I wish, how I could start it all over again

not for you this time,

for myself

my soul

my dying energy

and for the choices I made…

before I drown

in the ocean of my mind

I want to make it right

this time I want to do it for me

this time for that 16 year old girl

for that child in me…

For the choices I made

intoxicated with your love

bruised with your thoughts

I was everywhere

But I belonged nowhere

I yelled I screamed

but I was shut and demeaned

While gathering the missing pieces

of my broken heart

I cry and I realise

Somethings are just not meant to be

Here I feel broken yet complete

with my courage to move on

I ended this to begin anew

and from here I am going back to the start…

Maniac Emotions

As I am stuck between euphoria

and deep sadness

I try to live another day

I see my moods shifting swiftly

from December to May

As my thoughts go haywire

I succumb into pyre

to reinforce and

gather words to say

to live just one more day

to dance in the rain

before I am drained

within my corpse

I shall find

ashes of my desires

keeping everything at bay..

I will live another day

one more day..

love,Priyanka

Life, Death and Enlightenment – Buddhism

Buddha Purnima is the biggest day for Buddhists because on this day there happen to be the main three events of Buddha’s life; birth, attained enlightenment and attained Paranirvana, and is termed as Thrice Blessed Festival.

Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, and death. It falls on the day of the Full Moon in April or May and it is a gazetted holiday in India.

Why am I writing on Buddhism?

I follow Nichiren Buddhism, I am on a path to learn human evolution and understand the deep meanings of life. To practice self-control and to hold compassion so that I can become a bodhisattva someday. Which requires a lot of strength, empathy, compassion, and knowledge.

The best part of following Buddhism is that it doesn’t force you to change or leave your religion. It just helps you understand humanity and the history behind the making of Buddha and the foundation of Buddhism.

It is a very interesting study, we meet in groups, read about Buddhism and various stories. We chant Nam Myoho Renge Kyo (Devotion to the Mystic Law of the Lotus Sutra” / “Glory to the Dharma of the Lotus Sutra)

The chanting is no less than meditation and it helped to bring awareness to your body, mind, and soul. The vibrations produced while chanting is magnificent and so divine.

You don’t have to connect to Buddhism in temples, with priests or light candles/Diya, all you have to do is to see things mindfully and bring awareness to yourself.

The deep study of human evolution, group studies and chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo have filled my heart with peace, and in that peace that space I find joy.

I wish you all a very Happy Buddha Purnima! May your life be peaceful, may you find your purpose in life, and may you learn to grow with each and every phase of life.

Much love and gratitude

Priyanka

For the Man, he was- In memory of Irrfan Khan

In 2007, when I was in college I watched Life in a Metro starring, multiple heroes and heroines. He caught my attention. I have always been very selective in choosing celebrities. I hardly follow any on Social Media. I cannot figure out who is real or fake. Maybe that is the reason my favorite list is very limited.

But he was for real and that is the reason it feels so personal to so many of us. I see the struggle behind the man or woman they become without any support, bashing the nepotism culture which prevails in Bollywood. Besides Shahrukh Khan, Sushmita Sen, and a few more, Irrfan Khan was the one. The man who was hardly considered as a hero with his average looks, weird eyes but there was something too intense about him. Something too raw and too poised.

Due to Colon Infection, he passed away yesterday (29/04/2020). An irreplaceable and one of the biggest losses to the film industry. Leaving us heart-wrenched.

I am a big fan of his performances, his dialogue delivery gets me aww-struck. Whenever he says something on screen it feels like he is talking to you, so casual yet powerful. He had a unique hold on his plot, he knew what he is doing and it came so conveniently to him. I and my husband used to wait for his movies, and simply because it was his movies we went blindly to see so many of them.

In 2011, I had the privilege to see him personally, he was invited for lunch by our common friend’s family. He came along with his wife (Sutapa Sikdar), they both were so down to earth and so casual. He asked me, from where I am, and with a wide grin I said, Jaipur, Jaipur is my native place and in his very famous style he said, patanhge udai hai kabhi aapne vaha.. bohat famous hai, main to har saal jata that pehle, ab time nahi mil pata… That was him. I will always remember his subtility and genuineness.

Remember these lines from Life in Metro? When he asks Konkana Sen to vent out all her suppressed anger and scream at top of her voice, I get goosebumps whenever I watch this scene from the movie:

I also have a confession to make here that when Nawazzudin Siddhique gained fame after doing Gangs of Wasseypur and was compared to the caliber of Irrfan Khan, I always was biased and use to say that no, Irrfan is the best and over the years I realized how beautifully both the actors bloomed from where they were… both had a journey and both had their own ways.

But my personal favorite will always be Irrfan Khan and I am so heart-wrenched while I write this that I will not be able to see any of his movies now, I have watched almost all of his movies, especially the one he started doing in the latter part…The Lunchbox, Qarib Qarib Single, Karwaan, Piku, Hindi Medium, Angrezi Medium to name few…

I don’t want to sound like a crazy fan here, but yes I was his fan and it feels really awful to lose him too soon. May he rest in peace, the greatest of all time, the legendary actor, Irrfan Khan. There will be a void in the Indian Film Industry after him because he is irreplaceable. I hope he is in a better place, free from all the pain and suffering.

Much Love and Gratitude

Priyanka

I Dream of Stars

In a lonely

dark night

lying on the floor of my terrace

gazing at the open sky

I dream of a star

as I gaze wider

broader my dream becomes

I catch another star

right at the corner

shining bright

alone like me

yet happy and shiny

as I grin

and move my gaze

I catch up with another

tiny tot sparkling like a shrine

so precious and divine

for the warmth

in their glaze

and

peace in their light

I could gaze them

and smile all night…

love, Priyanka
