A Couple of Little Home Updates
Having been in our home for five years this year (which is absolutely mad and I’m not entirely sure where the time has gone)- I feel like I can comfortably say we’re very much ‘bedded in’ and ready to gradually start switching things up a bit. It’s a bit of a crazy thing to say when I feel like the internet can make renovations and home improvements seem like things that can happen overnight; but being in a partnership where neither of us have a DIY bone in our body (or the kind of savings pot that might allow for grand schemes to happen quickly); things are definitely a little more slow burning- which actually, I don’t think has been a bad thing (even if that means picture frames take several months to make their way onto a wall)…
I feel incredibly lucky to have our home, and although we’ve changed next to nothing since moving in (we were so giddy from the excitement of moving in and the fact it had been done up nicely, it’s meant that we’ve happily pretty much lived in identical décor as the previous owners ever since). But after several years, cracks are beginning to show, and the spaces are changing for us- so we’ve started to think about longer term living here; what that might look like and how to create a home with longevity and space for our little family if we want to be here long term.
Although I’m sure there’s another post for that for sure (where to begin when it comes to these things/how to find reliable suppliers/how to even articulate what you want onto paper all being big questions in my head)- I thought I’d share a couple of the most recent updates we’ve added to our home, which have a) given things a little refresh but b) meant that a couple of rooms are now a little more practical and loved than before…
The BedroomOne thing we wanted to do after painting our bedroom a few years ago was to get some wardrobes built in. We already had some IKEA ones in their place, which although served a purpose, were at a bit of a funny angle which made getting things in and out a bit of a process and felt quite clunky in the space. After coming across Freeborn Carpentry and falling in love with their work, we decided to go for it last year and I couldn’t be more thrilled with the outcome and how they’ve made our bedroom feel more streamlined, grown up and neat. They’re the same colour as our walls (Farrow & Ball Teresa’s Green) with Corston knobs, and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t wish we hadn’t done it sooner.
Recently I also switched up our bedside lamp when working with Laura Ashley, and again- it’s amazing the difference making little changes does. I know first hand how it’s not always feasible to take on big projects when you get the itch for an interiors change (I always wonder how people make switching up furniture so easy because to me it seems so cumbersome, especially when you’ve made such an investment) but it’s made such a difference just moving things around a bit- which although I’m sure is so painfully obvious to some, to this little novice- it’s very much a new novelty. Nick Knowles needn’t worry but my lamp is very happy in it’s new spot…

Finally, just before Arlo was born- another room we decided we wanted to switch up a little bit was our dining room. Having had our table in the centre of the room since moving in, we realised we only really used it a handful of times a year, mainly for hosting and very rarely for much else. It sadly seemed like a bit of a wasted space, and living in a perfectly petite house; we don’t have a lot of space to waste. After chatting to the brilliant Cate (who I knew had a similar sized home to us), we decided to add in the addition of a little window seat (or banquette as I now so fondly refer to it as) to make the space feel more relaxed and useable; whether that’s for dining, working or just having a cup of tea.
One thing Cate said when we approached this space was to think about the feeling of when you spot the best seat in a restaurant or café; the window seat in the corner that you can just curl up in- which feels cosy and homely and welcoming; and I knew that was something I’d love to try and mimic. Whilst having our wardrobes done last summer, we also had this little seat made (with underneath storage because we need as much as we can get)- and I later discovered Beth from Porter House Studio who did the most incredible job at creating a custom made cushion for it too. It’s now become one of my favourite places to work in the morning as the sun comes up and has made the room feel so much more relaxed which I couldn’t love more.

(cushion; Luke Edward Hall for Habitat and print; Laetitia Rouget)
I know the list can be seemingly never ending with home bits, but sometimes I think it’s taking things one step at a time and making changes for the now if the bigger things seem a little far off. Maybe there’s another post where I can write down all of our ‘blue sky plans’ for our house (and maybe ask for any of your amazing tips and advice), but until now I’ll be on my fancy little corner cushion praying for spring to return…

Finding My Style Again After Pregnancy
Of all the things to think about during and after pregnancy, wondering if I’d still feel like myself in a Jo March style Laura Ashley prairie dress was surprisingly quite low on my list. The white boot to white dressing gown swap was seamless and almost overnight I went from 90% big collars to 90% nylon and lycra mix.And that’s no bad thing; crikey- in those early days- in any days where you need it and it makes you feel good- comfort is king. I know I was judging myself on almost everything when it came to parenting and mastering the knack of getting something, anything- right; that the last thing I needed, or wanted to think about was what I was wearing and how I looked on the outside.
But style is something that’s always been incredibly important to me. I know it’s not vacuous or silly to care about clothes, and feeling familiar in yourself during one of the most transitional periods of your life isn’t something to be sniffed at. From being pregnant, ‘dressing’ my bump (which when said makes it feel a little bit like decorating an Easter egg in a competition), finding things to breastfeed in and then the sartorial no-man’s-land that is postpartum- the changes are astronomical, and knowing what to put on and actually how to dress is a bit of a minefield.
In the last two years my style has done a full loop on itself. And even though I seem to have just about come back around to where I started- I feel like the sense of self I’ve developed through having a bit of a style crisis has subsequently been worth every time I’ve looked in the mirror and thought ‘Okay liv, holey leggings and a striped t shirt it is!’ again.
So I thought I’d share a few of the things that helped me find me again (which, christ, sounds quite deep when it’s mainly about blouses- but you know what I mean). But for a woman who’s stuck somewhere in-between dressing like George Harrison and Mrs. Maisel- it’s taken a little while, but I think- think- we might be getting there…
Strip things back…For a long time I was looking at a wardrobe full of clothes which seemed to match my many various style identities, but none of them seemed to ‘fit’. Getting dressed was overwhelming, and I’d found myself resorting to the same combinations again and again, not just because they feel safe but because I’ve not been sure of what else I look okay in. So I pulled it back. What do I feel nice in? What could I pull out right now and wear? ‘GIRL WHAT IS GIVING MAIN CHARACTER ENERGY HERE?’ What would I pull out and put straight back in ‘for another time?’- because it’s those things that maybe require a bit of thinking time. After sorting things through- and most importantly moving away from things that don’t fit, I did a full blown Marie Kondo and tried to opt for what sparked joy.
What to do with the ‘I’ll save it for when it fits’ things…I found it quite stressful having a wardrobe of things that I wasn’t sure fitted or not since giving birth. From pregnancy, birth, postpartum and the time afterwards- my body changed almost month on month- so trying to accommodate that when getting dressed felt quite tricky and overwhelming at times. I was adamant I wouldn’t beat myself up if things didn’t fit; and rather than instantly getting rid of things- put them in storage in case they might in a few months (knowing that if they still didn’t, they could be sold or donated and replaced by other things that did instead).

The ‘bounce back’ narrative is the most unnecessary toxic pressure after birth, and making sure my wardrobe was looking at me full of things that a) fit, and b) I felt nice in was key to finding my feet again with style. I didn’t need to see things staring at me that I couldn’t get myself into, so I took them out of the equation and worked out where the gaps were.
Falling in love with Instagram Collections…If I’m ever in doubt with what to wear- even if I’ve planned out a ~top LEWK~ the night before and still am not sure, I take it to Instagram collections. I save EVERYTHING. I am an outfit inspiration hoarder and it’s absolutely come through when I’ve forgotten how to put anything together. I’ve made a couple of boards filled with simple outfit ideas (with items I know I have) which is always a comfort when I’m exhausted, a bit frazzled and just want to get out of the house (which, y’know- takes long enough as it is).
Notice the ~feeling~…This won’t always be the same, and that’s ok. If you once felt good in mini dresses and big collars and now want something a little more subdued- that’s fine. You don’t have to hold yourself to past standards or versions of yourself, and your style changing through different moments in life is ok. After I gave birth so much of my wardrobe didn’t feel ‘right’ on me. I either felt a bit frumpy, too over the top- or like I was dressing a little bit too much like the person supposed to be in the pram (that’s what frills and pinafores in excess might do). Put that all to one side and focus on who you are in this moment (well. That got deep quickly).
And if you can, wait it out!I’m really glad I held on to a lot of the things I wasn’t sure about during pregnancy and just after giving birth. There were things in the first few months I was so close to throwing, because I didn’t feel like me- but stepping back for a bit made all the difference. Some things I’ve let go of, but there are things I’ve come back around to just as I’ve started finding myself again. If you’re able to put things in the loft or in storage and revisit them, that’s a really good thing to do. Patience sometimes really is key.
Anyway- TLDR? This is basically me saying, you will feel like you again. It might take a while to get to, and maybe it won’t at all. But trust the process, wear the leggings; wear the dressing gown- wear the three-piece suit if you like! Heck! Baby sensory needs more three piece suits! But whatever happens you’ll be ‘You 2.0’- and that’s the best thing of all.

The Capsule Wardrobe (for the person that has… a lot of clothes)
(ad- post in collaboration with Very.co.uk)I’ll be honest when I say my sentimental heart and hoarding nature have never really allowed me to be much of a capsule-wardrobe-maker. I’m like a magpie for things that don’t match and my wardrobe is a cocktail of everything from feathers, sequins and cord- which although can sometimes make getting dressed a bit of a minefield, definitely keep things inspiring too.I said to Joe recently that my two dream sartorial personalities are Mrs Maisel and Paul McCartney; which although sound cool- definitely don’t share the same wardrobe (I’m either feeling prim, proper and very ladylike or like I want to be sat down in my denim recording the next big record- there simply is no in-between).
But! Saying that, there are a few things that I’ve come to learn are fundamentals in my wardrobe. The things that are capsule in a sense and make up the starting points of any good outfit when things feel a bit overwhelming or just a bit busy. So, with the help from Very.co.uk’s new spring collection– I thought I’d talk you through the items that essentially make up what I’d call my starting blocks (or capsule staples)- and make for failsafe outfits; whether I’m a having a Macca or Midge kind of day…
The Denim Jacket
If there’s one thing that sees me through all seasons, it’s a good button up jacket. Thrown on under a trench or coat when it’s chilly, and worn solo when it warms up- the boxier the better and there’s nothing more I like than a bit of Mr. Harrison double denim action. This one perfectly fits the bill for oversized yet perfectly fitted, and I know it’ll be seeing a lot of blue skies (we hope) this summer!

The Blue Jeans
I think I’m turning a bit of a jeans corner at the moment- once a kick flare only gal, my world has widened to straight, flare, high rise, palazzo, ‘mom’, ‘dad’, aunty, cousin and what have you (only kidding- but I’m certainly no jeans snob, that’s for sure). Anyway- these feel like the perfect balance of slouchy yet tailored and I love that they’re high waisted too. You don’t need me to tell you why jeans are a staple for me so I’ll spare you the run down- but tell me something they don’t go with and I’ll eat my hat.
The CardiganThe item that pretty much sticks with me all year round, but more so in spring is the humble cardigan. Thrown over band t-shirts it makes everything a little more prim, but I also love it thrown across shoulders with a silky vintage slip dress, or buttoned up and tucked into jeans too. This apple green one is the dreamiest colour and I’m excited to pair it with some brown and white trousers, as I know it’ll liven up some simpler outfits and weirdly almost acts as a bit of a neutral too- winner!
The Statement Dress
I’d seen dresses like this floating around online, and whilst I was a bit intimidated by the shape and colour- love the simplicity, how easy it is to wear and the elegant bow behind. It feels very grown up- and totally meets my criteria of having a staple to dress to hand as a bit of a wardrobe essential. Pair it with sandals for an easy ‘running about’ look, ballet flats for something a little cooler- or heels for that wedding you’ve got coming up in April; the choice is yours.
The ShoesFinally, when it comes to footwear essentials in my wardrobe- I’m all about comfort. Never far away from a good pair of trainers, as it warms up my high tops turn to sandals and ballet flats and I’m completely in love with the contrast of these chunky tan sandals (which might be in the running for comfiest ever shoes) and criss cross ballerina shoes. I know both of them will go with everything, so watch this space to see them truly have their work cut out.

What are your wardrobe staples as it starts to warm up?

A Peek Inside The Nursery…
*ad- affiliate links usedIn late 2020, as I grew ever nearer to my due date- one of the last things we had to think about before little A came along was changing the office and spare room into a nursery. Being a complete interiors novice, I was more than a little bit overwhelmed with where to begin, and although I’d put in the hours of saving images to secret Instagram collections, wasn’t really sure where to begin. Since moving into our home in 2017, we’ve done very little in the way of decorating or completely switching rooms up- so despite how easy a room makeover can look on Instagram, I felt a bit out of my depth.
Forward to now, it’s surreal to think it’s already been over a year since we decorated this special room, and although it’s functionality is already changing as little A gets older; I wanted to share a little look inside at some of our favourite corners and how we got to where we are. I know soon we’ll probably have to start thinking about wardrobes, and then changing the cot to an actual bed (!) but for now, I thought I’d share where we are- and maybe in a year or two I can do a little update too!
But! It all started with a mood board. I’d seen the Ottoline wallpaper around; and fell in love seeing it in the children’s bedroom of Clare O’ Connell, so that very much acted as a starting point. After weighing up between these stripes and something a little brighter; we decided on the sweet sunshiny lemon which acted as a bit of a pull for everything that followed. I also knew that I wanted to follow on some of the mid-century nods throughout the house and sat on Etsy looking for rocking or nursing chairs. Initially, it was just the lamp, chair and wallpaper that formed the basis for everything and made pulling together things a lot easier.
(Changing Basket, Changing Mat, Rocking Horse, Gingham Pyjamas, Letter Hook)Plus, I’ll be honest here and say we also enlisted the help of our very talented interior-design friend Sam at this point (and Papa P on wallpaper duty), who helped guide us through all the things we were unsure about- from whether to wallpaper the whole room and how that could make it feel smaller or bigger, what colour to paint the cupboards (we settled on Aquamarine Mid by Little Greene for the woodwork and Farrow & Ball’s Slacked Lime for the walls), what colour curtains might work and how to make things practical for the space as well as pretty. She did such an exceptional job and suggested the idea of filling the chimney breast with a faux fireplace too, which I’d never have thought of but absolutely love. We have a fireplace downstairs but were quite unsure about how to use this central space, but by picking up a second-hand surround on Etsy, loved how painting it and fixing it to the wall gives the room so much character, and makes it feel really fluid with the rest of the house.
With the shelving and cabinet already in the room, for us it made sense to make this our changing area (or, ahem, primary Paddington museum unit), which until pretty much now (where the small man wriggles pretty much anywhere he’s being changed) has made the perfect space for a changing basket- and amazingly, was just the right height for us both to bend down for nappy changes too (with all of his bits in the cupboard underneath). In all honesty, I didn’t think we’d be using it for so long as a changing area- but now we just rotate the basket when we need somewhere quick to change him (obviously supervised) and it still does a pretty lovely job.

In regards to the window corner, I knew from the get go I wanted a nursing chair that would last longer than the night feeds, and perhaps be something that could adapt and grow with our home and family. I’d seen this mid-century one on Etsy which was one of the first things I’d picked for the room, and it’s been the perfect companion for milk feeds in the hazy early days to bedtime stories as Arlo grows older too. My best friend Gemma also made the incredible letter cushion, so it sits pride of place there too- she’s a talented one!
In terms of the other bigger pieces of furniture, we decided on the classic IKEA cot (despite looking at so, so many)- which has been fantastic. It was easy to lower, is sturdy and just does a really solid job. We weren’t sure whether to get a cot that would convert into a bed, but are really glad we opted for this for now. We have also been using this Wayfair chest of drawers for Arlo’s clothes which has been perfect for folding everything into, and the IKEA picture ledge for a few little trinkets and books above his bed.
(Hot air balloon, Letter blocks, Light, ‘A’ print)

(Globe light, Small side table)One recent purchase I’m so happy with is his little wall-mounted bookcase from Great Little Trading. Co. I’d seen the fab Francesca with one, and loved the thought that Arlo could have it at his height to select a story each night. It’s been such a lovely addition to the room, and Arlo has loved pulling out his favourite books and sitting by it for a story (or two, or three or four) during the day.
I know there’s a *lot* of other individual things shown in these pictures, and I’ve tried to list everything underneath where I can- but I hope this gives you a little look into how we made switched this space from a little office to a nursery in a short space of time. It’s comfortably my favourite room in the house, and I’m excited to see how it evolves (and inevitably becomes filled with lots more red, green and blue plastic)!

One Night in Cambridge
(ad- press visit)Until last week it had been a good few years since I’d visited the beautiful city of Cambridge. The racing of bicycles weaving along the pavements and roads, the grandeur of the architecture which makes even the local Lloyd’s bank mimic something from Harry Potter and it’s time-gone-by nostalgia. Whether you’re punting along the river indulging in far-fetched stories of raucous student mischief or nibbling a Chelsea bun from the infamous Fitzbillie’s as the rain smatters down outside; it’s easy to slip into character mode in this city and pretend you’re starring in your own very quintessential British drama (just, y’know… without the drama).
Anyway, in a rather glamorous way to return, I was invited back to the city to visit one of their newest treasures- The University Arms. A beautiful hotel situated conveniently between the city centre and train station; overlooking the lush green of Parkers Piece and a short walk away from the colleges and riverside. It was somewhere I’d spied online before; with it’s duck-egg blue walls and cheerful yellow accents and Wes Anderson-esque reception and interiors piquing my (very limited) design eye.

But the hotel is so much more than pretty pictures, velvet sofas, bulging bookshelves and elegant touches. It feels like a home from home; with it’s library and open fire, dining room at Parker’s Tavern (home to a truly delicious menu with the spaghetti and rice pudding souffle being two favourites) and plenty of pockets to unwind and relax in; you could quite easily while away an evening without setting foot outside the hotel and it certainly wouldn’t be time wasted. And as tempting as it was to cosy up indoors; the city called- and having been a while I was excited to revisit a couple of old and new spots in the short but sweet time we had. Fortunately, the hotel are also able to organise some lovely things to do if you’re in need of inspiration- with their own punting partnership with Rutherford’s, and bikes to hand in case you fancy an independent adventure too.

Whilst punting in the rain feels almost like a Cambridge rite of passage (despite that it still always feels magical come rain or shine), I was so excited to visit Kettle’s Yard for the first time- the most stunning gallery and home; filled to the brim with beautiful pieces and artworks and a true and untouched look into the lives of Jim and Helen Ede. With the latest exhibition in the gallery being the fascinating and stirring The Liberty of Doubt by Ai WeiWei; there are constantly brilliant things going on here and it feels like such a special and authentic part of the city, hidden in plain site and a true gem in Cambridge’s crown.

Despite our stay only being a whistle-stop I’m already counting down until my return visit- with a David Hockney exhibition popping up over the spring and summer, I’ll gladly take that as my excuse to get cosy on one of these cloud-like beds again and dive straight back into another bowl of that spag bol too…

My Latest Beauty Empties (and why I keep repurchasing them)
*post contains affiliate linksIt’s been a little while since I’ve shared some beauty favourites on here, and whilst in blog terms that might be a hot minute, in terms of bathroom shelf time- a lot of the same favourites have been on circulation, with a few familiar faces getting repurchased after they’ve run out. So, I thought it would make sense to share the things that are always missed once they’ve hit empty, and the staples in my skincare I know I can come back to again and again (and again and again)…
The Cleansers
Now, when it comes to cleansers I’m all about a good balm. Ooft. Give me one magic product that does it all any day of the week. There are several cleansers I come back to again and again (the Pai Rosehip Oil Cleanser is another fantastic one, and I’ve just started using the CeraVe Hydrating Cleanser too which I know has firmly made it’s way into my collection)- but the handful I’ve already rebought include the BeautyPie Plantastic Balm which is worth it’s weight in gold, the Typology Make Up Remover Balm (another great remove everything balm) and Murad’s Essential-C cleansing gel which I love using in the morning.
The whole Murad Vitamin C collection is exceptional and I’ve also rebought the serum which although not cheap, is absolutely incredible at glow and hydration too.
The Magic Spray‘…but isn’t this just like a fancy water?’ I asked myself as I went to try the Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Miracle Hydrating Mist for the first time. Normally I’m the kind of person who *might* pull out a face mist when it hits 30 degrees in London on the tube- normally to add a ‘IT’S A GLOW NOT SWEAT’ moment (which, naturally this can also do)- but having used this bad boy every morning and night for the past few months can confirm this is a special product (and not a tarted up cooling spray either). I use it just after cleansing and before serum- to keep moisture locked in and my skin feeling really hydrated in my nourishing skincare sandwich. I never thought I’d be so committed to something that didn’t remove hardy eye make up- but here we are!
The SerumsIt’s only in the last couple of years that I have come around to appreciate the importance of a serum! The completely necessary butter in your skincare sandwich (I promise I’ll stop with the sandwich references)- but the one product I’ll keep coming back to; from one brand who do them so well, Typology. I was first introduced to Typology during my pregnancy, but love their simple formulas and effective products which are built to accommodate your needs directly. I use their Hydrating Night Serum and Vitamin C serum and being so well priced and effective just keep coming back to them.

The Moisturisers I’m a little bit less committed to one moisturiser in particular, but there are a few favourites on the skincare circuit that I always pick up if I’m out and need something to do me a solid. The first being Beauty Pie’s Japanfusion Power Elixir– which always, always delivers. It’s thick but not heavy, smooth but not slidey and instantly hydrates and absorbs for both morning and evening- a lot like Origins GinZing too. I also adore the Chanel Hydra Beauty Crème which is truly one of the best luxury skincare products I’ve tried. The scent alone makes me feel like I’m in a spa if I close my eyes, and it truly puts in the hard work to keep things looking hydrated. Another gorgeous product I repurchased over Christmas is the Shiseido Benefiance Wrinkle Smoothing Cream (not that I think wrinkles need ‘correcting’ but this one is a good drink in a pot)- and one that I have completely fallen in love with. I use it as my evening moisturiser, and it’s one of the best I’ve tried. It’s creamy, thick and literally leaves me glowing when I wake up (which, if you’ve seen me lately is a tough feat). It’s worth every penny.
And when they’re empty…?
I’ve been trying to make a sustained effort to properly recycle the beauty products I use once they’re finished- and although putting them in my standard household recycling isn’t the *worst* thing in the world (obviously trying to buy products that come in material other than plastic is best), lots of brands are now offering easy alternatives (sometimes with little perks thrown in too)- to make sure these containers see a second lease of life where they can. One thing I will say though, is as much as rewards systems are helpful if you already have products to recycle *can* sometimes encourage buying more you perhaps don’t need- so if you can, do recycle mindfully!
Lookfantastic and Hermes offer postage for products which means they can recycle your oldies into newbies. John Lewis offer a £5 off voucher for future beauty purchases for bringing in five beauty empties. The Supermarkets: Some Tesco, Aldi & Co-op stores offer points of recycling (worth checking from store to store). MAC run a Back To MAC scheme, where if you bring in 6 empty products you can receive a free lipstick.L’Occitane offer a partnership with TeraCycle in store where you can bring in anything to be recycled and receive 10% off a purchase. Body Shop have extended their Return, Recycle, Repeat scheme and you can take any brand of beauty product into store to be recycled. Kiehl’s offer points in store for bringing in your empties. Space NK have started working with Handle to recycle empties properly and create mirrors and hairbrushes with old products (you can also visit Handle directly online to return products). Lush offer 50p off a product for every empty Lush pot you return or a free face mask. Circla refill some of your favourite beauty brands for you- GENIUS! Boots have a fab points based recycling scheme in store.Summer Fridays also accept old brand packaging to exchange for a gift. Superdrug also have an extensive beauty recycling scheme (including the UK’s first ever medicine packaging recycling). You can also find out more about local points and more specific ways to recycle on RecycleNow .x

A Same City January Staycation…
Ad- post includes press visits but all opinions are my own. This time last week Joe, Arlo and I packed up our bags (and when I say bags, we did it in two which was absolutely remarkable for us) and headed into London for a night in our own city, soaking up the sunshine and playing tourist.I can count on one hand how many times I’ve been into London for leisure since having Arlo; and although there’s nothing more I love than walking around with no agenda, since having a little person- spontaneity, although possible, tends to be a little more pre-planned (which certainly isn’t a bad thing, just something you need to allow a little more space and time for)! Anyway, when we were kindly invited for a same-city staycation at the beautiful Belmond Cadogan hotel; I giddily accepted.
Despite not living particularly far from central London, the thought of not having to rush back and a chance to stay somewhere as eye-wateringly pretty as this made it a very easy decision.

Anyway! With that in mind, we decided to plan a little day out in town- making the most of what the city has to offer for a little person, but also with enough wiggle room for naps, dinner time and a little bit of shop-hopping and pottering thrown in too (pottering is definitely not a word I’ve used much since having a baby, I’ll tell you that)!
The Hotel
Situated in arguably one of the best central spots I can think of, The Cadogan straddles Sloane Square, Chelsea, Knightsbridge and Victoria- making it the perfect location for coming into town and getting around. You’re within a very short walking distance to some of the loveliest brunch spots (Café Kitsune, Anya Café and Granger & Co to name a few), some of London’s best green spaces (Hyde Park to name the big one- but the hotel also has access to some very tranquil private gardens which you can picnic in too) and getting around couldn’t be easier. We walked from our hotel over to Covent Garden and even in inappropriate footwear (will I ever learn?) I didn’t grumble once.
Now, The Cadogan is a special ol’ place. It’s not every night we get to casually park up at a five star hotel for the night and this hotel truly delivers on the magical front. I mean, any hotel with a spa, TV in the bathroom (!!!) and pillow menu will do that, right? Joe and I were saying that if we were to get married again this would be the perfect ‘night before/night of’ hotel (especially given the fact you have private garden access) as it felt so special. Just opening the shutters to rows of Chelsea townhouses was a treat, and the novelty of seeing buses and black cabs drive past will never not feel novelty, even as a Londoner.

Importantly, they were also amazing with Arlo- and supplied a travel cot, high chair in the room, baby-friendly food and getting around with a pram was also straightforward too.
But you don’t have to stay the night to soak up its loveliness either. Offering delicious afternoon tea in the most decadent room (inspired by their iconic trains no less), and with their restaurant The LaLee offering a hugely varied menu inspired by the Belmond’s journeys across Europe, you can get a slice of the Cadogan’s magic in just one afternoon too. In the summer they also offer a picnic package too, so you can sit out in their gardens (and tennis courts), avoiding the hubbub and soaking in the city sunshine (which would make for a lovely treat date day too)!

With the weather forecast for sunshine, we decided to make the most of our day- heading across to Covent Garden with a walk along Piccadilly (with plenty of Fortnum’s window shopping to break up the walk, and a quick stop at the trendy Rose Bakery to oogle the cake selection too).
With little A in tow, we decided to visit the Transport Museum (which although he was possibly a little bit small for, enjoyed showing him the big old buses and selfishly we both liked reading about everything whilst he snoozed)! Covent Garden is also so gorgeous by evening, and walking around Floral Street (not just for Ganni I promise) was so lovely.

For dinner, we headed to Ave Mario; the newest addition from Big Mamma and somewhere I’ve had on my London wish list for a while. Although taking a baby to dinner is often a *bit* of a gamble, we tried to time it alongside Arlo’s dinnertime and felt like we’d struck gold by coming here. The restaurant is spread across three floors, which all offer slightly different experiences; downstairs takes you straight to a Kylie video, the middle floor takes you to an evening on the balcony in your Italian coastal hotel and the top floor back to a cosmopolitan city hideaway. Although it’s just the top floor which would be pram friendly- we felt so lucky to be able to take him there (and although perhaps boring, anywhere with baby changing instantly puts my mind at ease too). Plus, not only is it a sensory experience for everyone (the décor always amazes me, and the playlists are always *chefs kiss*) but we were all able to tuck into their delicious pasta (Arlo included) and iconic puddings, which made for a lovely end to the day indeed.

I’m hoping that in the next few months we might be able to get a couple more little city stays in as a family across the UK too (although diva Liv might now have to especially seek out pillow menus wherever she goes… ahem).
I remember feeling like in the early days these kind of things were so distant (my worrying mind always overthought everything and meant things seemed a lot more tricky than they always were), and it’s so nice to be able to relax into parenting and doing things together as a family. If you’re in the throes of feeling overwhelmed, trust me when I say it can and does get easier. Things slot into place and not everything always has to be a military operation, I promise you might even leave the little red book at home too! Just don’t expect to not have to share pudding with some little fast hands…

What Blogging Means (to me) in 2022
I was in my loft earlier this week digging around for some old magazines (I am an absolute sentimental hoarder and have boxes of bits I’ve had for well over a decade)- and came across the first issue of Cherrybomb and some of my most treasured issues of Lula Magazine (back when dream girl Leith Clark was the editor) sitting in a box. I flicked through them quickly, and something inside me shifted a bit. I felt a spark of what it felt like when I started my blog over 12 years ago. A bit like when someone goes into the attic in a film and sees a little light in the corner, or a little box of treasured covered up. Something that needed dusting off, and a bit of magic hiding underneath.
It reminded me about why I started my blog all those years ago. The genuine giddy thrill and love of clothes, of fashion- or seeing these beautiful photoshoots adorn the pages, that would inspire me to go out at weekends with a beehive myself- almost in my own world; completely enamoured and inspired by what I’d flicked through. How I genuinely didn’t care about what people thought about how I’d dress- if I felt good, that’s what mattered- a confidence, which perhaps over the years, has become a tiny bit lost along the way.
It was the excitement of wanting to talk about that feeling, share that experience and those clothes and stories with someone; anyone who might listen and read it too. The pages of magazines that feel so special, that twelve years later I still can’t bare to part with them. It’s what connected me when I was in my halls at uni, to other girls across the country and the world- all tapping away and sharing this mutual spark. A lot has changed since then, and sometimes with the now cynical (but often completely justified) view there is of influencer culture, it’s easy to be told that you’re only doing this to ‘sell people stuff they don’t need’ and influence people to spend, spend, shop, shop. And I know maybe that’s how it seems, sometimes. Of course I work with brands I’m lucky enough to love, and that pays the bills (a wild concept to me of 13 years ago). But the reason I still post here, and loved going through all of those old pages, is because sharing my silly little outfits, and sharing my silly little thoughts feels different to that. Picking up those magazines feels different to that. I didn’t buy those magazines to feel like I was being sold to. Maybe I was- but I so often came away appreciating the magic there was in fashion; whether it was within my reach or not (and weirdly, despite never being able to afford it- it never felt unattainable). How things can make you feel; and almost how you can be whoever you want to be; whether that’s cool or not. The same reason those pages carry weight and inspiration all these years later.
I’m not entirely sure what I’m trying to say here (maybe I’m over tired or over excited by the scanner or my period has completely taken wind) but part of me just wants to bring that back a bit. I know I’m not a hot fashion magazine and not somewhere you’ll necessarily come for the newest look books and fashion news- but part of me wants to just share a few more of the things that inspire me like that. Be it new collections I’ll be trying to take inspiration from or just things that are a little bit more off the cuff. Maybe trying a few snazzy shoots again? I don’t know- we’ll see. Thoughts like this- that are half formed and from the heart. A messy magical marriage of trying to keep things a bit more candid, whilst still taking joy in trying to recreate some of the glitter in those pages. I’m no Leith Clark (ah, a girl can dream) and this is no Violet, or Lula- but there’s something good left in blogs yet that feels worlds away from the comparison and bubble that is Instagram, and I hope you’ll stick around for a while longer to soak some of that up with me too.

21 Lessons I Learnt in 2021
And, as much as I love starting the new year a little like a new school term- I always enjoy these little reflective posts to end each year too. Although not every year has to be packed with profound learnings and life changing developments; sometimes there’s a few things I keep coming back to that I like to add to my miniature wisdom wallet for safekeeping- in hope I might remember some of these things to make the next year (and the one after that) a little more gentle too.
Last year was magical, unforgettable, heart-achingly special, heart-breakingly challenging and pretty much everything in-between. I learnt a lot about myself, my strengths, weaknesses, love, loss and carrying on when the going gets tough (clue: it’s normally putting on Boyzone). And although I’m not sure I’ve managed to articulate everything on a few scraps of notebook paper collaged onto some magazine cuttings- I’ve given it a good go.
So I hope you enjoy reading a few of my favourite lessons from 2021. Rereading them I realise number 6 and 7 might make it sound like I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder; (when actually I saw these on a cool Instagram graphic and thought ‘yeah, that’s a good one for a serial people pleaser to remember!’) and I’m aware 10 and 11 aren’t exactly revolutionary either- but sometimes cliches are cliches for a reason, and I’m happy with that (I’m not sure anyone comes here for my deep and meaningful wisdom anyway- so that’s more than ok). I’ve also included lessons about sleep, driving and taking vitamins so I think it’s safe to say I’m absolutely an established grown up now (it was that or my age which was a sure fire give away), which is something worth celebrating too.
Anyway! Considering I’m almost certain it’s too late to wish anyone a Happy New Year, I’ll wish you a lovely week instead. I’m back on Saturday with another blog post, and you can expect to see me this time next week too- because, hey! Routine! (Nope, I’m not sure I know her either).
Thank you, as always for your kindness, patience and endless support throughout the last year (and finding me over on Instagram when here was a little sleepy). You’re the best and I’ll never ever not be grateful.
Here’s to a brilliant 2022 <3

My Beauty Pie Festive Favourites (and Gift Ideas) – AD
*AD paid collaborationI’ve spoken about my love of Beauty Pie numerous times in the past; whether that’s shouting about my love of their cleansing balm to anyone who will listen on Instagram (it’s really, really the best), telling Joe to ‘GIVE THIS A WHIFF’ when lighting another new Clean House candle, to covering all things skincare with my mum. They are true experts at what they do, and no less as Christmas rolls around and the Beauty Pie elves bring out the Christmas offerings too.So! Today I thought I’d share with you a few of my favourite products, and a few further little gift ideas from one of my favourite beauty destinations. Whether you’re buying for someone in need of some good TLC and downtime, or a true glam-getter; there’s something for everyone (and yourself too, naturally).
But- on the off chance you haven’t heard about Beauty Pie; or are new to them, let me give you a quick run down…
In short…Beauty Pie is the first ever luxury beauty members club that gives you access to brilliantly high-quality, luxury beauty products from the worlds leading beauty labs (the same ones that are used by the biggest names), without breaking the bank. They have the most incredible range of skincare, makeup, fragrances, haircare, body care, candles and more (like, really a lot more).
To make things affordable, they cut out the middlemen (e.g expensive packaging and huge mark ups) to give you products at lab direct cost which means you can access high quality beauty, at a reasonable cost (all from the most prestigious labs across Switzerland, Italy, Korea and more).
You can pay annually for £59 (which means you can access the products at cost price), pay monthly, or simply pay the full price too. It’s that easy- and the membership pretty much pays for itself too. If you did want to sign up, Beauty Pie are offering £10 off of your membership using the code ‘LIVPURVISSENTME’ when signing up as a new member!
Anyway- without further ado…I’ve categorised things for two types of people, the ones who love going out out (and, lets be honest- the getting ready process which is absolutely at least 80% of the fun) and the ones who love nothing more than pulling out their finest towelling, striking a match and cosying up to some seasonal Nora Ephron with a glass of something warm (and/or fizzy).
For the Saturday spent on the town…
The palette: For the ultimate do-it-all eyeshadow palette (whether you’re more of a smoky or subtle person, this puts the work in)- the Push Your Luxe Palette is incredible for some seriously pretty looks.
The fragrance: Okay, so the Beauty Pie fragrances are pretty special and this Mandarin Leaf, Freesia & White Cedar eau de parfum is chefs kiss. I’m no nose when it comes to describing scents, but if you were in a reaaaaally posh hotel room I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t smell dissimilar to this. Clean, zesty and fresh- it’s the perfect all round scent and costs £21 for members (!)
The lipsticks: a.k.a the ultimate stocking filler. Lipsticks are the pyjamas of the beauty world. There’s something so fun about opening one and wanting to put it on straight away. My favourite shades are Heartthrob Pink and Red Light red.
and for the Sunday spent in your slippers…The Eyemask: Does anything say luxury Christmas pressie like a silk eye mask? The ultimate ‘crikey I’d love that but would never buy one for myself’ present. See in the 25th in full blown Holly Golightly style with this beautiful festive number. Ooft.
The Candles: You’ll already know by now I am a sucker for a candle. The two topping my list from Beauty Pie this year are Clean House (because truly if I can’t have the real thing, this is absolutely the second best) and their festive Gingerbread, Almond and Orange Blossom candle. Both absolutely fill a room without even being lit and are the perfect warming scents.
The Skincare: Some of my favourite all time skincare comes from Beauty Pie, and despite swearing by their Plantastic Cleansing Balm (it’s the ultimate do-it-all cleanser which I am never without a tub of); they have so much on offer that would make the perfect pressie. A couple of favourites would be their Japanfusion 10 minute miracle sheet mask (the perfect little treat gift, and perfect for a cosy evening in), the Japanfusion Genius Lift Exlir (because if British Vogue say it’s the ‘ultimate skincare saviour’ who am I to argue?) And their Superdrops too for the perfect boost of hydration post cleanse. There’s something so spoiling about the gift of skincare, and I know it’s something so many won’t treat themselves to- so this feels like a true treat to open to make every night feel like a little mini spa facial.

The Bodycare: The Super Healthy Skin range is something I’ve heard so many gorgeous things about, and after taking them for a spin can confirm: it’s nothing but good news for this power duo of body cream and shower gel. Nourishing, super absorbent and so smoothing you’ll have to stop yourself from saying ‘FEEL HOW SOFT MY LEGS ARE!’ (a real story)- and at under a tenner, the perfect gift too.
