21 Lessons I Learnt in 2021

Hello! Hello! I’m back- with a very very belated New Years post, coming at you from nearly the second week of February- from someone who desperately needed that little window between Christmas and New Years to recuperate (I promise I wasn’t just watching When Harry Met Sally and eating triple chocolate crunch. That often anyway)- but it was so needed, and I’m so excited to be back, truly.

And, as much as I love starting the new year a little like a new school term- I always enjoy these little reflective posts to end each year too. Although not every year has to be packed with profound learnings and life changing developments; sometimes there’s a few things I keep coming back to that I like to add to my miniature wisdom wallet for safekeeping- in hope I might remember some of these things to make the next year (and the one after that) a little more gentle too.

Last year was magical, unforgettable, heart-achingly special, heart-breakingly challenging and pretty much everything in-between. I learnt a lot about myself, my strengths, weaknesses, love, loss and carrying on when the going gets tough (clue: it’s normally putting on Boyzone). And although I’m not sure I’ve managed to articulate everything on a few scraps of notebook paper collaged onto some magazine cuttings- I’ve given it a good go.

So I hope you enjoy reading a few of my favourite lessons from 2021. Rereading them I realise number 6 and 7 might make it sound like I have a bit of a chip on my shoulder; (when actually I saw these on a cool Instagram graphic and thought ‘yeah, that’s a good one for a serial people pleaser to remember!’) and I’m aware 10 and 11 aren’t exactly revolutionary either- but sometimes cliches are cliches for a reason, and I’m happy with that (I’m not sure anyone comes here for my deep and meaningful wisdom anyway- so that’s more than ok). I’ve also included lessons about sleep, driving and taking vitamins so I think it’s safe to say I’m absolutely an established grown up now (it was that or my age which was a sure fire give away), which is something worth celebrating too.

Anyway! Considering I’m almost certain it’s too late to wish anyone a Happy New Year, I’ll wish you a lovely week instead. I’m back on Saturday with another blog post, and you can expect to see me this time next week too- because, hey! Routine! (Nope, I’m not sure I know her either).

Thank you, as always for your kindness, patience and endless support throughout the last year (and finding me over on Instagram when here was a little sleepy). You’re the best and I’ll never ever not be grateful.

Here’s to a brilliant 2022 <3

My Beauty Pie Festive Favourites (and Gift Ideas) – AD

*AD paid collaborationI’ve spoken about my love of Beauty Pie numerous times in the past; whether that’s shouting about my love of their cleansing balm to anyone who will listen on Instagram (it’s really, really the best), telling Joe to ‘GIVE THIS A WHIFF’ when lighting another new Clean House candle, to covering all things skincare with my mum. They are true experts at what they do, and no less as Christmas rolls around and the Beauty Pie elves bring out the Christmas offerings too.

So! Today I thought I’d share with you a few of my favourite products, and a few further little gift ideas from one of my favourite beauty destinations. Whether you’re buying for someone in need of some good TLC and downtime, or a true glam-getter; there’s something for everyone (and yourself too, naturally).

But- on the off chance you haven’t heard about Beauty Pie; or are new to them, let me give you a quick run down…

In short…

Beauty Pie is the first ever luxury beauty members club that gives you access to brilliantly high-quality, luxury beauty products from the worlds leading beauty labs (the same ones that are used by the biggest names), without breaking the bank. They have the most incredible range of skincare, makeup, fragrances, haircare, body care, candles and more (like, really a lot more).

To make things affordable, they cut out the middlemen (e.g expensive packaging and huge mark ups) to give you products at lab direct cost which means you can access high quality beauty, at a reasonable cost (all from the most prestigious labs across Switzerland, Italy, Korea and more).

You can pay annually for £59 (which means you can access the products at cost price), pay monthly, or simply pay the full price too. It’s that easy- and the membership pretty much pays for itself too. If you did want to sign up, Beauty Pie are offering £10 off of your membership using the code ‘LIVPURVISSENTME’ when signing up as a new member!

  Anyway- without further ado…

I’ve categorised things for two types of people, the ones who love going out out (and, lets be honest- the getting ready process which is absolutely at least 80% of the fun) and the ones who love nothing more than pulling out their finest towelling, striking a match and cosying up to some seasonal Nora Ephron with a glass of something warm (and/or fizzy).

For the Saturday spent on the town…

The palette:  For the ultimate do-it-all eyeshadow palette (whether you’re more of a smoky or subtle person, this puts the work in)- the Push Your Luxe Palette is incredible for some seriously pretty looks.

The fragrance: Okay, so the Beauty Pie fragrances are pretty special and this Mandarin Leaf, Freesia & White Cedar eau de parfum is chefs kiss. I’m no nose when it comes to describing scents, but if you were in a reaaaaally posh hotel room I’m pretty sure it wouldn’t smell dissimilar to this. Clean, zesty and fresh- it’s the perfect all round scent and costs £21 for members (!)

The lipsticks: a.k.a the ultimate stocking filler. Lipsticks are the pyjamas of the beauty world. There’s something so fun about opening one and wanting to put it on straight away. My favourite shades are Heartthrob Pink and Red Light red.

and for the Sunday spent in your slippers…

The Eyemask: Does anything say luxury Christmas pressie like a silk eye mask? The ultimate ‘crikey I’d love that but would never buy one for myself’ present. See in the 25th in full blown Holly Golightly style with this beautiful festive number. Ooft.

The Candles: You’ll already know by now I am a sucker for a candle. The two topping my list from Beauty Pie this year are Clean House (because truly if I can’t have the real thing, this is absolutely the second best) and their festive Gingerbread, Almond and Orange Blossom candle. Both absolutely fill a room without even being lit and are the perfect warming scents.

The Skincare: Some of my favourite all time skincare comes from Beauty Pie, and despite swearing by their Plantastic Cleansing Balm (it’s the ultimate do-it-all cleanser which I am never without a tub of); they have so much on offer that would make the perfect pressie. A couple of favourites would be their Japanfusion 10 minute miracle sheet mask (the perfect little treat gift, and perfect for a cosy evening in), the Japanfusion Genius Lift Exlir (because if British Vogue say it’s the ‘ultimate skincare saviour’ who am I to argue?) And their Superdrops too for the perfect boost of hydration post cleanse. There’s something so spoiling about the gift of skincare, and I know it’s something so many won’t treat themselves to- so this feels like a true treat to open to make every night feel like a little mini spa facial.

The Bodycare: The Super Healthy Skin range is something I’ve heard so many gorgeous things about, and after taking them for a spin can confirm: it’s nothing but good news for this power duo of body cream and shower gel. Nourishing, super absorbent and so smoothing you’ll have to stop yourself from saying ‘FEEL HOW SOFT MY LEGS ARE!’ (a real story)- and at under a tenner, the perfect gift too.

Giftmas Gift Guides 2021: Day 6, For Him…

(Grind coffee table book, Human Sea Home Hockney book, Fur record, Heather Evelyn card, Grown Alchemist body wash, Meraki Mailouts box)

*post contains affiliate links For the final day of Giftmas, it was all about picking out the perfect gift for him…

And just like that, the final day of Giftmas is upon us! I feel like the weeks leading up to Christmas always go by in a flash- but I hope this week has provided you with a little inspiration for your present shopping, if like me your’e still muddling through it! Anyway! Today is all about shopping for the men, or man in your life! Like I’ve said before- it’s always hard to avoid gender cliché bingo here (cars! rugby! meat! beer! Although sometimes cliché for a reason…)- and these gifts could be just as perfect for your best pal or sister too, but equally pulled together a few bits I know everyone from Joe to my brother would like, which I hope might help point you in the right direction too!

So- let’s start with books! Grind have just released the coolest coffee table book of 2021; packed with everything from delicious brunch recipes, anecdotes about their London institutions and so much more, and would make for a brilliant gift (maybe with some of their coffee pods too)! There’s also this gorgeous book of Hockney posters from my pal Dulcie’s beautiful new vintage home ware offering, Human Sea Home. She has the most gorgeous selection (with everything from glasses to paperweights too)- and has kindly offered 10% off of orders using the code ‘LIVPURVIS10‘ from now until December 24th, which is pretty lovely indeed. I also included one of my albums of the year (even though it’s only *just* come out), from Fur (who, if they don’t happen to already be a fan, would be a very cool new addition to their record collection). Rough Trade also do a great monthly record club, so that could be something that might be up their street for any music lovers too. For ‘smellies’ I absolutely love Grown Alchemist for a stunningly scented selection of shareable smells (wow! the alliteration!), and I’m a huge fan of their body washes and lotions too. Finally, I wanted to include a new discovery from Meraki Mailouts– a monthly subscription box for anyone ‘who wants to reignite their creative fire or is keen to spend time by themselves doing something mindful each week’. Each box comes with a selection of sustainably sourced items; be it inks, recipe cards, a notepad, teas (etc.) to help inspire and drive a little solo creative time when everything feels a little hectic. It’s the most lovely idea, and a true way of giving someone the little gift of ‘me’ time, when we most need it.

Some other lovely suggestions for the fella in yer life! The Vinyl Wall: For the ultimate in cool home decor, pick him up some of these to display all of his Spice Girls records! The S word: SOCKS! Oh my god I am at an age where socks are a useful, cosy and well-respected gift (I think? I hope?) Either way- Critically Endangered do the loveliest charity socks to support endangered wildlife (and also happen to be really lovely too). Falke also rank very, very highly in my cosy socks stakes too. Ain’t Saint Candles: Because everyone, I mean, everyone needs this Bob Mortimer candle in their life. Temple Skincare: Specialising in skincare and wellness products for men of colour, everything from the branding to the products are *chefs kiss*! Will Make(s) Things: For a beautiful keepsake, be it from a special shared place or sentimental spot- these beautiful handcrafted maps would look beautiful framed. The Book of Dog Poems: Because the only thing nicer than an IRL doggo is reading about how wonderful they are.I’ve also added previous links to guides for the men in your life, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!2020/2019/2018/2017 (dad)/2017 (partner)/2016 (dad)/2016 (boys, general)/2015 (dad)/2015 (boyfriend)

Giftmas Gift Guides 2021: Day 5, For Your Best Pal…

(Kip Sleep Gift Set, Lele Sadoughi x Liberty headband, Dora Larsen Bra, Wiggle by Wendy pyjamas, Lucy Says I Do book journal, Liv Purvis x Oliver Bonas necklace)

*post contains affiliate linksFor day 5 of Giftmas, it’s all about spoiling your bestie…

Honestly- I always love putting this category together. Although it feels a bit open ended and broad (because as I said last year- your best pal could be into absolutely anything, and nobody knows them quite as well as you do); really this is just a collection of gorgeous items I know I would love (and a lot of my best pals would too). So don’t mind me as I fawn over these gorgeous jim jams and underwear…

But let’s start at the top! One of my favourite travel brands, Kip Hideaways, have partnered with Elizabeth Scarlett and Bramley to bring out the most gorgeous sleep set. Perfect for any pals partial to a staycation; this set comes with an annual Kip membership, sleep spray, eye mask and pouch and is the most thoughtful gift for anyone into holidaying at home too. For further pampering, these Wiggle by Wendy PJs might be some of the coolest jammies I’ve spotted lately; Wendy has such an eye and they’re almost too good to keep for bed only. Which leads me nicely on to this Dora Larsen bra! I know buying undies at Christmas can sometimes be a little bit Buddy the Elf-esque; but seeing as a nice set of underwear is often one of those things we never get round to picking up for ourselves, I know opening something as beautiful as this would certainly not go amiss…

And onto accessories! I completely fell in love with the Liberty and Lele Sadoughi collaboration; the headbands are true things of beauty and combined with the prettiest Liberty fabric, they’re a total dream. I also did a bit of ~shameless self promo~ and included my Gemma necklace from my Oliver Bonas collaboration. It feels a bit funny including something I’ve designed (I know it’s not stopped me in the past)- but these pieces are items I wear everyday and truly cherish, and like to think if you were looking for a true keepsake and something really special, the collection might have a couple of pieces in there that you might take a little shine to.

And last but not least! This Lucy Says I Do book journal. I absolutely love this as an idea for any friends that love getting through their reading pile at super speed. It has so many sections for taking notes on beautiful quotes, meaningful passages or just lovely bits of text you want to remember; and I think jotting them down somewhere like this is a really gorgeous idea.

And for some other gorgeous suggestions for you, I mean, your bestie… Wardrobe wonders: Got a pal who is a bit of a style maven but you’re never sure what their wardrobe is missing? Gift them with a fashion rental service subscription for a month; On Loan and By Rotation are absolutely cracking (with the best selection) and will fulfill any wardrobe dilemmas at a moments notice. Alternatively Tatiana Alida has done a series of iconic Christmas jumpers for Warehouse which are pretty dreamy too. For vintage, Margot and Lux have a gorgeous selection- but you can find my full list of favourites here too . I also love these laser cut earrings from Han Makes which are gorgeously affordable.Under One Roof: For some of the chicest pieces all in one place I love a good old browse of Ninety Three Store for unique fashion, fragrance and lifestyle. Glassette for the finest in home ware, and A Slower Space for everything from lifestyle loveliness to The Beatles (which is always a good combination if you ask me).A bit of a dog lover? Scouts Honour do the best patches for your pals pooches, as well as Bryony Moss for prints and Polly Fern and her incredible whippet designs.Prints, prints, prints! I honestly saw this When Harry Met Sally print from Emma and LEAPT. It is everything everyone should have on their walls for all-year-round-autumnal-goodness. I also love Ohverlee for serious pick-me-up prints (and the kind of things you know your bestie will appreciate hearing daily). I also love Allie Josie Studio for her punch needle initial wall hangings which would cheer up any space.Women In Mind: A new discovery to me, but one I’m so glad to have stumbled across, Women in Mind do the most beautiful fragrances, home wear and lifestyle products all centring around ‘helping to protect what should be private spaces in which to pause, reflect and replenish. We do this by creating and fragrances that instil an understanding of what self-care is: not a frivolity, but a vital means of preserving ourselves in the face of a demanding lifestyle.’ London Fields is top of my list and I know Harem Rose will be beautiful too. Brixton Wine Club: Cocktails and wine in cans delivered to them monthly? Wine tasting has never looked so cosy. The ultimate cosy knit: Is there anything more glorious than unwrapping a cosy jumper and putting it straight on? No, there is not! Yan Tan do the most beautiful sustainable knitwear, and their Aran and cable knits are HEAVEN. Romeo and Jules: For the swankiest notecards and writing sets, Romeo and Jules will have you covered. It’s the fanciest kind of gift, but one which feels oh so special, and you’ll be hard pushed to find prettier stationery than this.I’ve also added previous links to guides for your pal below, if you need any further reading (as well as some extra picks too)!2020/2019/2018/2017/2016

Giftmas Gift Guides 2021: Day 4, For The Little One…

(Knitted banner from Knits for Nina, Baby sleep suit Sleepy Doe via West Stanton, Frances Costelloe print, Month of Sundays journal, Vintage book, Mou Mou bauble, Fan Club vest, Little Worne Store cardigan)

*post contains affiliate linksFor day 4 of Giftmas, we’re celebrating baby’s first Christmas and picking up a small something for your little one…

Since becoming a mama this year and discovering so many gorgeous brands for tiny ones, it seemed impossible to not include a small selection of my favourites to help inspire any present buying for any little humans in your life. Starting with all things personalised, I absolutely love both the gorgeous banners Knits for Nina makes (we hang this on his bedroom door)- as well as the now iconic Little Worne Store personalised knits; which although fly out like hot cakes make for such a special gift and keepsake (just make sure to set a reminder on your phone)! There’s also Mou Mou’s personalised baubles which would be such a lovely gift, and the perfect tree deccie for baby’s first Christmas.

In terms of clothes, I also included this festive sleep suit from Sleepy Doe (who do the most precious baby PJs; with this ski scene being a favourite), which was picked up via West Stanton; another brilliant small business who stock the most gorgeous baby brands and make picking up a gift the easiest job in the world. Also, how could I not include the new Fan Club vests?! With Arlo being a solid Bacara fan this had me at hello, but they also have a handful of other great ones (in case your baba might be more of a Bowie baby) and the loveliest prints too which also look gorgeous framed for a nursery. Other favourite keepsakes include this Month of Sundays baby journal which would make a beautiful gift for new parents (even better if you wanted to print a few photos to help get them started) and this Frances Costelloe print– another excellent one for any little bedrooms. Finally, for any stocking fillers I love the idea of picking up vintage, or your childhood favourite books (there’s a LOT of Paddington and Judith Kerr in this house); because if in doubt, I truly don’t think you can go far wrong with a beautiful book.

Some other lovely businesses for minis to mamas… Because vintage isn’t just for grown ups: A bit like shopping for myself (ahem), there are few things as satisfying as a vintage gem- and even better when it’s tiny! Be Diddy , Les Petites Champignons , Mags & Moo and Petit Pays are some of my favourite spots to discover vintage for bubbas. The kind of clothes you’d quite like in grown up sizes too: When it comes to brands that I find myself scrolling through going ‘WHY IS THIS NOT A SIZE 8 PLEASE?!’ I’m always head over heels for Nellie Quats (two words: Liberty print), Georgie Murton for beautiful printed rompers, Freya Lillie (who actually do a ‘mummy and me’ collection), To Be Young , Ando Store , Claude and Co , Dream On (the coolest t-shirts) and Misha & Puff too.The best all-round baby stores: If you just want a little scrolling inspiration my first stops are always Kidly , Junior Edition , West Stanton , Smallable , Alice and Friends. Co and Luna and Curious .If they already have enough red and blue plastic: (No shade, plastic toys)! But a subscription to Whirli would make for an amazing gift. It’s a toy swap subscription service, so you pick some toys- keep them until they may outgrow or lose interest in them, and then swap them for something new- no waste, and new loveliness that keeps on giving. For clothes, Bundlee also offer a similar service which is fab too! For little extras: Other gorgeous gift ideas I love include some dinky hair bows from Evie Michelle , Wolf Noodle for gorgeous prints, Bundle + Bo for muslins, Jennie and Company for heirloom dolls, and Josie Bulmer Designs for the sweetest name flags. Hannah Hall also does beautiful hand embroidery, which you could also commission on a small set too.And for mama…: Aside from the gift of time, a home cooked meal or the offer to run her a bath whilst you have a baby cuddle; I also love these gift boxes from Markham & Co. which make for the loveliest letterbox delivery. For any to-be mama’s in your life, the Positive Birth Co. courses are fantastic, and so comforting and knowledgable for this magical new chapter too.
…and if you still need some more ideas!

Giftmas Gift Guides 2021: Day 3, The Best £20 And Under Picks…

(Roger & Gallet soaps, Rare Birds Candle, The Insecure Girls’ Club x Sighh list notepad, If In Doubt Wash Your Hair by Anya Hindmarch, Annings of Dorset shampoo bar, Heather Evelyn candles, Glossier balm dot com, Paul and Joe mirror & lipstick, Licia Florio nail varnish, PollWollDoods Mayo print)

*post contains affiliate linksFor day 3 of Giftmas, it was all about some gorgeous goodies for 20 quid and under…

…also unofficially known as the lovely soaps and candles category! I just can’t help myself ok! I just like nice smells and I can’t help it! Anyway! Whether you’re looking for stocking fillers, a secret santa gift for someone you don’t know all *that* well, something unique and thoughtful for someone close to you (or just something you know they’ll get use out of)-hopefully this category shows you truly don’t have to spend a fortune to give something lovely at Christmas.

Anyway- let’s start at the top! The gorgeous ice-cream looking soaps from Roger & Gallet truly stole my heart, as well as this Annings of Dorset shampoo bar I discovered this summer, which uses discarded seashells to make for one of the prettiest pocket-sized bathroom accompaniments I’ve come across. There’s also Anya Hindmarch’s joyous ‘When In Doubt Wash Your Hair’, which is full of so many brilliant pick-me-ups and nuggets of wisdom, it’ll have you wanting to reread and underline for inspirational one liners again and again. I also couldn’t not include Rare Birds new ‘True Crime’ book smells candle from their new collection inspired by favourite genres (they also have romantic comedy and…bodice ripper… ahem)- which I think is the best idea, and would make for a gorgeous gift for any bookworms in your life. And whilst we’re on candles! The Heather Evelyn handwritten duo make for the prettiest gift and finishing touch for any table scape or mantlepiece too (I also love her cards and baubles for other purse-friendly picks too). In terms of beauty; I don’t think you can go wrong with a lippy, a classic balm dot com (their new cookie flavour is *chefs kiss*) or nail varnish- and Licia Florio do the most luxurious polishes, with Paul & Joe’s lipsticks always being the most adorable ever. Finally, I couldn’t not include a favourite from last years TIGC x Sighh collab (which is still in stock if you wanted a nosey… Polly also has some in-credible diaries this year too), and this mayo print from the uber talented PollWollDoods– who does the best affordable prints. This set also comes with a Colmans and Tabasco special; but she has so many to oogle at that you’re sure to find something that suits your sauce loving pal.

Some other lovely picks under £20 worth a special mention… A Choose Love donation: If in doubt, a donation in the shape of one of Choose Love’s virtual gifts is the perfect gift. Choose supplies, services and various bundles (from a warm dinner or coat) for someone who needs it most, and know your money is truly going somewhere important this festive season. Some postal edibles: Some brownies arriving on your doorstep as you get in from work? Yes please! Cupcakes by Hester do delicious home-delivered brownies (with 12 including PB, Nutella, Biscoff and salted caramel)- and would make for the perfect treat (they’re juuuust over £20 but I couldn’t not). Additionally, for more perfect letterbox lovelies, Dees Basement do the best madeleines and tray bakes to your door and Afternoon Crumbs have the cutest personalised gingerbread people too. Our Daily Edit: For the fanciest socks, slippers and beauty picks- my favourite Brighton based lifestyle and fashion shop has you covered.Something lovely for their home: For the prettiest ceramic pots, Abbey Lou Studio has some gorgeous ones (she’s doing a lot of IRL Christmas markets, but do DM her)! I also love these personalised terrazzo trays from RoseWorksLDN. For a further selection of gorgeous affordable gifts I love Originals Studio and We Are Dill too.Sew Botanical hoops: For the plant lover, these Sew Botanical embroidery hoops are the perfect make-at-home beautiful gift.Beeswax Wraps: The ultimate affordable and useful gift- these wraps are something I see in so many shops but never get round to picking up; the perfect stocking filler for someone who likes doing their bit.The Calligraphy Store: Give the art of stunning handwriting this Christmas with this beginners calligraphy kit , or their adorable bauble making kit .I’ve also added previous links to guides which largely fall under the ‘under £30’ or ‘stocking filling’ brolly, if you need some more ideas (as well as some extra picks below)!2020/2019/2018/2016

Giftmas Gift Guides 2021: Day 2, For Pampering Your Pal…

(Plum & Ashby diffuser, Mama Moon candle, Forage Botanicals bath salts, Susanne Kaufmann St. John’s Wort calming bath, MOA Queen of the Night treatment, Our Lovely Goods Sunday Morning candle, Herlum hand wash, The Seated Queen cold cream, Katinak face mask kit, Karen Mabon Pyjamas)

*post contains affiliate linksFor day 2 of Giftmas, it’s all about bottling up that feeling of a full bubble bath, fresh pressed PJs and five minutes to yourself…

Arguably the easiest category to put together; it’s a cosy selection of all of the things that make my shoulders drop a little, make me take a deep breath out and properly go, ‘aaah’. If I could have my dream pamper evening- it would look a lot like the above, piled together with a big hot chocolate and an indulgent helping of Strictly Come Dancing. But! Seeing as I couldn’t add Giovanni to this category, I thought I’d share some other lovely things instead- and some lovely beauty suggestions I’m sure any loved one that needs spoiling would appreciate. So let’s start with the scene setters; Plum & Ashby have the most gorgeous home fragrances, and their diffusers absolutely fill a room with the kind of scents that ooze posh hotel room feels (which is a big yes from me). I also absolutely adore this candle from Moon Mama, which is their ‘Divine Guidance’ one, and smells like what I imagine Brad Pitt might smell like (read: really, really good). I also love the ethos behind the Moon Mama candles and the tie they have the art of ritual making and a bit of magic, which is always pretty special too, and makes the process of lighting one of their candles feel all the more magical. For something to start the cosiest of weekends, I love Our Lovely Goods’ Sunday Morning candle too (they have some of the best named candles out there); light it with a bath filled with this Susanne Kaufmann calming bath (the biggest treat) or some of Forage Botanicals Pre-Menstrual bath salts, which also make for the most thoughtful gift. In terms of skincare, I pretty much love everything MOA come out with (including this beautiful Queen of the Night treatment), and have also fallen hard for The Seated Queen Cold Cream too- which can do the work of a cleanser, facial and night mask (truly, get you a cream that does it all). For a special at-home facial, I love Katinak’s cute-as-a-button kits (it’s the spoon and brush for me) as well as their gorgeous homemade soaps too. Finally, who can say no to a fancy hand wash or pair of PJs? Herlum is a beautiful made-in-Britain beauty brand using sustainably sourced ingredients (including waste florals) and is every bit as gorgeous to sniff as it looks by your sink. I also had to include the dreamy new Karen Mabon pyjamas in their Botanical Gardens print, which would make the dreamiest luxury gift too.

And for the gift of a little more ‘me’ time… All about the oils: From essential, to bath to diffusers; Mood Oils have it all (in v. cute packaging may I add). I also love Wild & Wood for the ultimate bath and shower experiences (honestly they have petal bath sets and milks which are HEAVEN), and Pennies and Feathers for their beautiful story and natural product line.Let’s get COSY: For the coolest dressing gown (and matching socks) head to thy.self – arguably one of (if not the) coolest wellness brand on the block, who offer community as well as some amazing events to watch out for. and if in doubt… pyjama! I know I’m not alone in thinking that there are few things as luxurious and special as receiving a perfect new pair of pyjamas. A few of my current favourite brands to go to include (but are very much not limited to); If Only If for the most heavenly night gowns, Sian Esther PJs for scalloped gorgeousness, Kate Barnét for the fanciest quilted robe in dreamy prints, Goodnight Creatures for beautiful prints in varying shapes and Hermit for legit hotel-bed-sheet-soft jim jams. Another Little World: If you happen to be based in the south-west, Another Little World is the most gorgeous beauty spot offering dreamy treatments. For other treats across the UK I always, always encourage a little trip to the Lush Spa which has some of the best treatments I’ve tried. And for something a little more bespoke: For bespoke gift boxes straight to their door, Parcel London do some of my absolute favourites. There’s always such a gorgeous variety of gifts (not *just* saying that because they now offer my book on there, I promise)- but they truly make creating something unique and incredibly thoughtful easy. Additionally, Bear Hugs and Any Day Made also have some beautiful offerings too.I’ve also added previous links to guides covering all things beauty and pampering, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!2020/2019/2018/2018 pt. 2/2017/2016

Giftmas Gift Guides 2021: Day 1, For The Interiors Queen…

(Wonky Picnic bowl, Batsheva x Laura Ashley oven mitt, petit trésor plate and bowl, Leo flowers peonies, Paul & Joe hand cream, Fan Club candle, Lazy Baking cookbook, Hill House Living book, Keep Candles egg cup candle, ‘Nogroni’ alcohol free cocktail)

*post contains affiliate linksIt’s back! For the first day of Giftmas it’s all about the great indoors…

Oh my goodness, I can’t quite believe it’s time to dust off the annual gift guides and get back on the present-buying-wagon as the festive season rolls around. Is it just me or does it feel like this year has flown by in the blink of an eye? I feel like part of me is still in barbecue season (hence why my winter wardrobe is still firmly in the loft)- and I can’t quite believe the heady smell of cinnamon candles, eighties tinsel and mince pies in the oven (being warmed up from the Co-Op no less) is less than a couple of weeks away. EXCUSE ME! Anyway! much like last year, I thought I’d share these a little earlier than previous years, as I know it’s nice to get organised, take advantage of any offers that might be coming up- and naturally allow time for any small brands to get on top of orders and deliveries. I’ve included so many of my favourite small businesses in this years edits, and had to seriously draw the line when it came to putting these together (although I will say I *think* there’s at least one candle in every category)- otherwise I know I would have been here until Christmas 2023…

Anyway! The picks! For today I’ve opted for a handful of my favourite ‘home-y’ pieces; and universally joyful things that would sit pretty in lots of lovely abodes (and things I know I welcome sitting pretty in mine). I’ve included a couple of favourite small table wear brands; Wonky Picnic who does the sweetest small batch ceramics inspired by the great British picnic and petit trésor who, in my opinion, have some of the loveliest vintage home wares out there (who I’m also reluctant to share, but sharing is caring)! Talking of table wear, I recently fell in love with Keep Candles, who do the most timeless candles in ceramics and glass wear; all designed to be reused and repurposed long after the wick has gone out. For something a little more vintage inspired, it wouldn’t be a home category without the iconic new Batsheva x Laura Ashley oven gloves (which I will one hundred percent be serving the turkey in this year) and Fan Club’s new ‘Baby Love’ candle which is inspired by sixties pink powder rooms- which is enough to have me running a bath and pulling out my dressing gown pronto! For something to get stuck into, I was so excited to include the fabulous Paula’s beautiful new book Hill House Living; an extension of her endlessly cosy Instagram and filled with home styling tips, recipes and enough inspiration to keep you ticking over well into the New Year. I also included Lazy Baking by one of my favourite people to follow online, Jessica Elliot Dennison– which has some of the most delicious and easy to follow recipes, and has given me some serious festive cooking inspiration. Additionally, one thing I wanted to make sure to include was a couple of blooms by Leo Flowers; the best paper flowers out there, and the perfect way of giving some blooms that will last, quite literally, forever. Finally, for a couple of more purse friendly options, there’s this Paul and Joe hand cream (their d-reamy packaging always comes up top for me) and this cheeky little non-alcoholic cocktail by Seedlip which would make a glorious stocking filler too.

A handful of other brilliant businesses offering some beautiful goods for inside their four walls… To deck the walls: I could go on and on about the best prints, but a few lovely spots to pick up a gorgeous illustration or piece of art include Katie Tinkler illustration (for the best foodie inspired art), Emily Edwards for botanical collage-esque prints, Thee Bouffants for gorgeous leopard and fashion prints ( this is a fave) and Peggy & Kate who do beautiful cards you could easily pop into a frame for an affordable and thoughtful gift.…and the mantle! I am completely besotted with Gracie Dahl’s little ceramic people – how precious would they be guarding your most beloved books on the shelf?Goods for the table: Got a keen host on your hands? No problemo! By Hope stock some of the prettiest floral table linens, whilst Style Your Spaces and Tea + Kate will have all of your napkin needs covered (and glassware, ceramics and heartbreakingly-cute wreaths too). I’m also obsessed with these Dolly Rocket coasters which can be customised depending on the colours you desire too, gorge! Also, if you fancy taking the load off of the host this year, Under The Ivy flowers have the prettiest Christmas candle arrangements (and pretty floral jars too). The coolest candles: God, this woman loves a candle. It’s the ultimate Christmas present (IMO) and although you’ll find a few dotted throughout the guides this week, I also wanted to give a shout out to Feu Candles (biscotti candles? YESSIR), Sancho’s for their CHRISTMAS CRACKER SCENTED ONE (truly deserves all caps) and Alina Candles for beautiful multiwick’s too.A postal tipple! Honestly, if you fancy sending a pal some of the finest bottled cocktails to their door this festive season, look no further than Black Lines . Whether that’s an espresso martini, margarita or this elderflower collins (which sounds particularly dashing)- that’s one way to perk up yer post! The luxury kitchen item: If you’re looking for a ‘big’ purchase for someone who has everything but loves all good home bits; consider one of the cracking Our Place pans. Not only a thing of beauty, but a one-pan wonder which looks just as pretty on your hob as it does cooking everything you’d ever wish for too.I’ve also added previous links to guides covering home and interiors, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!2020/2019/2018/2017

Come and visit the Liv Purvis x Oliver Bonas OBoutique!

Now that the Strictly Halloween special is done and dusted, we’ve seen the first advert for I’m A Celeb and firework night is just on the horizon- I think it might nearly be acceptable to start thinking about decking the halls, the sound of a sax that can only be heard in the beginning of a Darlene Love song and starting to decide whether a Cadbury’s advent calendar really is the one we want this year (a.k.a CHRIIIIISTMAS). Not that I’m excited or anything…

Anyway! This little announcement isn’t strictly festive, so if you’re very ready to hold off until December 1st stay with me yet (because gift shopping can absolutely be for you too, I promise).

In short- if you’re about next week, in London or Manchester and fancy coming along to one of the beautiful Oliver Bonas stores to hang out, have a nosey and shop the Flower Moon collection in real life for the first time (I’ll be putting everything on like a child on her mums dressing table)- I would truly love to see you there!

At both stores, there’ll be a pop up a.k.aThe Liv Purvis OBoutique’ (ooooerr)- with lots of inspiration from the collection, the pieces I’ve styled it with and a chance to have a nice ol’ natter too- which sounds pretty lovely to me. If you’d like to pick up a free ticket, I’ll pop a link here for London, and here for Manchester. Both will be running from 3-7pm, so perfect for a little post-work/uni pick me up if you fancy!

Also, if you fancy checking out some of the gorgeous pieces from the Oliver Bonas autumn winter collection that I used to style the pieces with, I’ve popped together an edit with the wonderful Oliver Bonas team here (trust me, it’s a goodun)…

I can’t wait to hopefully see some of you next week!

Postcards from St. Ives Bay…

Normally when it comes to being away, I’m a woman with a plan. No café left un-Tripadvisored, no National Trust site left un-booked and no menu that hasn’t been pre-scoured before we set off. I’ll ask on Instagram for recommendations, to which I’m often so generously spoilt with suggestions- and make sure to map out and bookmark as many as possible, squeezing in precious sights and must-visits with every moment. But this trip was a little bit different.

Perhaps it was the fact it was a long weekend; travelling with a baby, having to relax a little and accept that spontaneity might now take a slightly different shape- or maybe the fact that so much seemed to already be on our doorstep. But for once, we didn’t plan anything. Everything had a relaxed air of ‘let’s see how we feel!’ Which made holidaying somewhere like here so special.

On Saturday afternoon, after requesting some of the hire bikes from Three Mile Beach, we found a generous pocket of time to take to the dunes and take a cycle along St. Ives Bay.

We’d seen some of the swooping coastline on our wander the day before, but had also heard whisperings that seal spotting could be seen from Mutton Cove along the bay- which was enough to have us all helmeted up and raring to go before I’d even had time to think about how wobbly I knew I was at cycling.

Thankfully, because the bikes were electric it made cycling off road and slightly off the beaten track all the simpler (which, if you have the kind of stamina I do, will be wholly welcomed) and meant we could feel fully immersed in the sights and environment around us (which is a nice way of saying I nearly fell off of my bike a handful of times)- but was so beautiful nonetheless. We were utterly spoilt with the autumn sunshine, which made soaking in the dramatic coastal views in the late afternoon dusk all the more special.

Seeing the dunes alight with a golden glow and the hills peppered with grazing cows meant that being a total hands-forever-on-the-brakes cyclist was completely worth it. One of the best things about the cycle along the coastline was how the scenes changed so often- from sandy beaches, dotted with miniature surfers in the blue water, and onlookers bundling into towels and fleeces- to lush green dunes waving in the wind, rocky cliff faces with the waves far below lapping the sides and small wildlife reserves with ponds popping up in the overgrowth and plaines- making for a setting of beautiful contrast and perfect serenity.

On top of that, being able to catch a small glimpse of a tiny seal pup with it’s mother, slinking along the shore was the David Attenborough cherry on top- I felt like I’d truly got the full house at great outdoors bingo.

Although the sun might have slightly deceived us into thinking it was warmer than it was, we headed back along Gwithian as the sun started to go down, stopping to take in the striking views of Godrevy Lighthouse as the cars started trickling away from the car park as the day began to dim.

Although I know being organised and planning things with every ‘t’ crossed and ‘i’ dotted is the way I typically do things, it’s little adventures like this that remind me there’s always room for a little unplanned loveliness, no matter what shape that takes. Maybe I am a bit outdoorsy after all…
