The Big ‘oh it’s been a while’ Catch Up Post…
Gosh, it’s been a hot minute hasn’t it?
As I sit down on a very light (21.25pm) Sunday night (on the Sunday that would have been Glastonbury weekend which should pretty much be a Bank Holiday), I realise it’s been just over a month since I published a blog post- perhaps the longest since the wedding last year?
Anyway- hello, it’s me- I’m here, and I’m sorry for being a little quiet. I think we’ve all been experiencing a lot over the last few weeks, and despite being someone who thought they had a lockdown ‘routine’ sussed, was actually very wrong indeed and swiftly had the rug pulled from under my feet in more ways than one. A note to self: just because you prescribe to a very set routine and Psycle classes (which I still cannot bloody spell), doesn’t always mean your body and minds doesn’t need a break.
Smug ‘leggings Liv’ of last month had no idea- in some ways it’s been incredibly challenging and in some ways a very good thing indeed (which in no way should be interpreted as cryptic, I promise).
Anyway- with the lengthening of lockdown came a mini existential crisis, a 27th birthday (which was actually really lovely and almost a little ‘normal’) with a total feeling of exhaustion on top. The non-stop of weeks of trying to pour myself into everything coming to a small dimmer and the need to step back felt like the best, and healthiest thing to do. It’s arguably the first time I’ve listened to my body in months, but spending afternoons reading, indulging in the odd episode of A New Life in The Sun and resting has been essential. It’s been a luxury of course, but if there’s one thing I’ve learn in my 27 years it’s that you really can’t pour from an empty cup- at least not this cup anyway. There’s been a fair bit of reflection (which I’m sure we can all agree has been a handy exercise), some moments of comparison (where I had to have a sharp word and remind myself that a pandemic isn’t a portfolio piece, Liv) and a necessary brownie order from Isobel Bakes to see me through in-between.
And of course with reflection, comes an immense time of learning too. The last few weeks have been shamefully eye opening for so many, myself included- and like every other white business owner, I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can go forward, be a better ally, friend, listen, acknowledge my wrongdoings and go forward better with my house in order. To make this space fairer, more inclusive and ensure I’m part of an industry that I, and we can all truly feel proud to be part of. I know so many are doing incredible things to drive this forward too (see The Creator Union here, which is so, so brilliant and doing some hugely necessary things)- but I can’t be half-hearted, complicit or forgetful when it comes to making sure I am consistently asking the questions and ensuring the answers are fair, supportive and progressive for everyone- and not just those that look like me.
At the beginning of the month, I also signed up to one of Nova Reid’s courses and it was truly life changing. If anti-racism work is something you want to learn more about, then you can start here with her incredibly helpful guide– but I cannot recommend looking into Nova’s courses enough. It’s been invaluable in unlearning, accountability and finding confidence to start conversations where perhaps I’d have kept quiet before, and I am so grateful. Obviously- I have, and am only scratching the surface of this lifelong work- but being able to hold myself accountable and learn that guilt, shame and remorse- although valid, are very impractical emotions when it comes to progression, development and change.
On top of that, I’ve also been writing a ‘paper’ diary since the beginning of June. I selfishly felt like I wanted a little something for myself, for my concerns, worries and little ‘silly’ moments; which, with everything going on in the world- seemed futile and too self indulgent to share here (lol, Liv it’s a blog… about you, get a grip). But thankfully, after a bit of a difficult weekend- seeing some friends IRL, a new Haim album which I think we all deserve and a couple of phone calls to friends long enough to possibly clarify as podcasts- I’m feeling a lot more myself.
So thank you for bearing with me for this ramble- I wanted to properly check in not just with a ‘hey! Here I am here’s a nice dress’ chat- but actually fill you in a little. I’m feeling a lot more positive, filled up and ready to go this week and hope you’ve all been being gentle, and taking care of yourselves too. I have lots of blog posts lined up and hopefully a handful more of my wardrobe videos coming too, but know I’m always here for a natter (on email, Instagram or what have you) if you’re ever feeling the same.
Thank you for always guiding, supporting and listening. You’re truly a top bunch.

The WFH Wardrobe (and diaries): Part 3
It’s been a while since we had a WFH heart to heart isn’t it? I initially started writing these blog posts as a diary like response to a really bloody weird situation, and since have realised- that actually in some weeks I’ll have a lot to say, and others very little at all (unless ‘asdfghjkl’ counts).
Oh Liv. It’s a little like when I used to ask for a Jacqueline Wilson diary every year for Christmas, and typically only make it to about June until my sentences turned to words which then turned to a smiley… Maybe I’m just not destined for long form diary writing?
But saying that, with the current climate- I didn’t consider the brain fog, the days where any item of clothing with less than 60% elastic was a bad idea, and the days where even deciding whether the shower felt like a mountain to climb (I know, tiny violin- but bad days will do that to you). All the while, grappling with the reality that a lot of people have it much, much worse. It can feel selfish, or even silly to struggle on the days where you’re safe at home- working, cooking or enjoying an activity you’d otherwise never make time to enjoy.
I loved this post from Charlotte from Girl on Film, where she says;
‘I treasure summer evenings. There’s something endlessly nostalgic about grass under your feet- that smell of flowers, the hum of crickets. And yet, it feels ignorant to enjoy the peace of a silent park. When we’re surrounded by loss – by injustice. I can’t help but feel guilty as I feel a wave of relaxation. As if my moment of joy is an insult to those that continue to suffer the consequences of our brutal reality. So, this is a reminder that out current emotional co-existence is a complex one. That our ever changing feelings are valid.’
And that’s just it. All of these feels and experiences are valid, and everything is relative. Acknowledgement is key, but so is being kind and gentle too.
And this week, it’s cleared a little. I’ve gotten into a routine (well until next week at least) and it seems to work for me- *ANGELS SING*. I know the classes I like to do weekly- be it a Psycle barre class on a Monday and then full body on a Saturday. I actually, genuinely look forward to them. Although it feels trivial- having those small things to look forward to gives me some kind of structure and control when everything else seems so unpredictable too. I’ve realised I am a creature of routine and habit, and need a neatly organised diary to be able to navigate the week like a smooth cruise rather than a bloody mountain expedition. I am Ben Stiller in Along Came Polly- bar nuts and all and that is ok.
I’ve also been hosting daily workshops and lives over on The Insecure Girls’ Club with some friends of the club, which have been amazing this week too. Admittedly I’ve been bricking it before every single one (the ‘oh god do I need the loo again?!’ panic is always there)- but it’s been so lovely to exercise, paint and meditate with you all this week, and feel a little bit closer to the wonderful community of women out there- all experiencing this in parallel ways under the same sky- no matter what the situation.
Finally, I thought I’d end on a high note, and share some of the other lovely things I’ve been enjoying over this less-than-lovely period. I’d love to know what you’ve been doing on the day to day- and, mostly- how are you? Sending lots of love to you all.
Little rays of sunshine:
– Fan girling intensely to Haim’s dance classes- every Sunday on Zoom, and then an hour later on Instagram live- an hour to learn a dance with three of the coolest women in the world.
– Letters from friends. From friendship bracelets, postcards and chocolate bars. Receiving post not from HMRC is a joy and a total heart warming treat.
– Reliving this time last year and the countdown to our wedding (even if I wish I could go back to it). On this day I was about to see Magic Mike- which, yes, I would very much rather like to do again.
– FINALLY watching all of the nineties coming of age films that bypassed me in a worryingly big way. There’s a post coming soon on this but how nobody ever told me about this scene is, quite frankly, criminal. TEN MILLION VIEWS AND NOT ONE FROM ME.
– Cooking more (yes Liv because restaurants are like, illegal).
– Learning to listen to my body- sometimes you’ll want to get up at 7, and sometimes sleeping until 10 is needed and necessary and not something to be punished for. Sleep is gooooood.

The Lockdown Listens: My ‘It’s A School Night’ Playlist
*including images that feel, arguably, anything less than zen- AND A GREASE SOUNDTRACK VINYL*
It’s no secret that I’m a bit of a serial playlist maker, and whilst I’ve very much indulged in my fist-pumping-WE-GOT-THIS-TUNES throughout lockdown, sometimes you just need something a little more relaxed when a motivational sing song feels a little much (and yes, I did just say that)…
Whether you’re making dinner, scrolling in the bath (guilty) or making the long commute from the top of your stairs to the bottom- escaping with something that isn’t Take On Me, is sometimes actually quite necessary.
This has quickly become one of my favourite Spotify listens and with some of my favourite artists from Laura Marling, Stornoway (who are so, so perfect for a good chill) and some newer discoveries like Aldous Harding- I hope this little listen helps anyone unwind, or takes them away for a little bit (even if it’s just when you’re making the bed in the morning)…
Listen to the full playlist here!

An Ultimate List of Feel Good Films (with the best rom-coms around, if I say so…)
I’ve had a wobbly week (Liv, it’s Monday), have got my period and don’t know when I’ll next get to see my family again- and I’m unfortunately sure 100% of you will relate to at least one part of that too. So- throwing a stab in the dark here, might I suggest that it may be time to settle in to one of the below?
After asking Instagram for the finest chick flicks (a term which caused much discussion- with my stance being that we need to ‘reclaim’ the genre and celebrate it, in a nutshell)- lots of wonderful people online came to my rescue and supplied one of the heartiest (and heartfelt) lists of films I’ve ever seen. Obviously once you start scrolling, you’ll realise these films span all genres- from romance, drama, family, comedy and musical- with few tears left unshed too. Comprised of a list of films I turn to again and again when I need a lift, to the ones that you all love wholly too- hopefully you’ll find something to pick you up in these continually uncertain times- whether you’re after a love story, total weepy, big-town sing-a-long or a ‘SHIT! I haven’t seen that in years!’
As a disclaimer, I haven’t seen all of these, but based on your recommendations I’ve tried to categorize to the best of my ability and include near enough everything (I think!) that I think you’ll devour quicker than a batch of Anna’s cookies…

Five Recipes To Fall Back On
Sometimes knowing where to begin when it comes to cooking dinner can be the biggest question mark. I know the internet and Instagram is peppered with creative, colourful and almost art-like dishes- but sometimes, when I’m after something quick that suits my mood I find myself panicking and hounding BBC good food faster than you can say ‘WHY IS MY DOMINO’S APP NOT WORKING?!’
So, to get you started if you’re ever feeling a bit lost- I thought I’d share a handful of mine and Joe’s fail safe fallback recipes. The ones we use time and time again that suit all manner of moods, and always always do the job.
They’re not necessarily the most exciting, the most fancy or photogenic- but they’re certainly some of the most delicious. I also thought I’d add in some of our favourite spots to search for ideas below- in case you ever experience the kitchen overwhelm like I do (and can’t quite muster the energy to rifle through recipe books- which I can also recommend)…
School of Wok’s Chicken Chow Mein
Oh my god THIS DISH. Takes less than 15 minutes once you’re well versed and is comfortably one of the most delicious noodle dishes I’ve ever had. Joe nails it every time but it truly couldn’t be easier to recreate.
Jamie Oliver’s Spag Bol
So good we had it as our wedding meal. We almost always have a batch of this in the freezer ready to go, and it’s one (if not the) most delicious spag bol I’ve ever had. I know saying a Jamie Oliver recipe is the best I’ve had probably makes me sound a bit dull (or basic, but sue me)- but it’s bloody wonderful and I won’t hear otherwise.
Nadiya Hussain’s Prawn Malay Rice
From Nadia’s wonderful book Time to Eat, her Prawn Malay rice has become something Joe and I really, really look forward to. Very similar to Nasi Goreng, this is such a filling delicious dish- packed with flavour (and doesn’t take long either). For a great online alternative, Mary Berry’s Chicken Malay Rice is very similar.
Eataly’s Aquacotta Soup
We use the Aquacotta recipe from this wondrous Italian cookbook (and unfortunately the recipe isn’t available online), but this one seems to serve a very similar purpose. In short, it’s a traditional Tuscan soup which is made to varying recipes depending on the availability of the ingredients- which lends very well to our ever-changing veg supply! We don’t normally do it with mushrooms or eggs, and ours normally consists of thrown in carrots, onions, celery, potatoes, chilli, Swiss chard and tomatoes- which always feels really warming and hearty.
Fearne Cotton’s Salmon Tray Bake
Honestly, I think this was one of the first meals we ever cooked in our house together- I know, we went LARGE. But with neither of us having cooked much fish before we were like small fish in a very big pond of recipes (ho ho ho). Anyway- this is still great and three years later we’re still going. You can pretty much mix this up however you like, but it’s such a great way of getting in lots of veg, some nice fish and potatoes- and really not having to do much else. Win win!
because behind every nicely laid table is a very, very messy kitchen…
and some other favourite places for our favourite recipes to get you started:
Rukmini Iyer for one dish wonders, Melissa Hemsley for creative unpretentious dishes, Anna Jones for ‘omg this looks like it’s from a restaurant’ meals, god- Bon Appetit for everything, beautiful recipes for every mood from Bre Graham, for heavenly bakes I am in love with Benji Ebuehi, Rosie Birkett for wonderfully British dishes, I also adore Manon’s savory and sweet dishesand of course Gem for your seasonal recipe fix.
All of my other recipes from the blog can be found here.

A Week In Instagram Lives: Planning Your Week Ahead
Have I mentioned recently how much I love an Instagram Live?
Give me a barre class, brownie bake-along and bingo in one week and yes indeed, you will have my heart.
Okay, so come 9am, 4pm and 6pm things get a little bit rush hour over on the ‘gram- but hey, if it ain’t for you- you can just keep scrolling. Thankfully for yours truly, I’m a sucker for a social (media) gathering, and have truly loved getting lost in exercise classes I might never have attended, baked recipes I might never have tried or found wise words from voices I may otherwise have never have discovered.
I’ve been astounded by the generosity of brands and individuals sharing their time and knowledge for communities around the world; whether that be in fitness, food, coaching or otherwise- and have rounded up a few of my favourites into a weekly schedule for the week ahead (subject to change, of course), that you can get stuck into if you so wish! Again, I’m sure I’ve missed out some absolute wonders- so please feel free to share below! Each week I know things do change, so I’ve tried to keep things broad (and grouped together people that don’t do set days too)!
YOUR WEEK IN INSTAGRAM LIVES
Monday:
A barre class @psyclelondon (throughout the day): One of my absolute favourite classes ever- having never been brave enough to attend an IRL class, this has been the perfect introduction to barre. They do several time slots a day, so check back the night before for the following days agenda.
A chat with @shotfromthestreet and @lindseyholland_ from Things You Can’t Ask Yer Mum at 5pm: One of my favourite lives, these girls are sunshine through and through and their Q&A style heart to hearts are such a gorgeous start to the week.
Fake-away cook-along with @gizandgreens at 7pm: Gizzi Erskine and Professor Green bring you weekly dinner cook-alongs to recreate your favourite takeaway dishes at home. Deeeelicious.
Tuesday:
Elevenses with @thissarahpowell (11am, on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays): Wonder woman and founder of Celebrate Yourself Sarah Powell does thrice-weekly chatters on her Instagram which are as funny and warm as they are wholesome.
Lunch time LBT with @pt.angeline at 12pm (and on Saturdays): Missing your live LBT workouts? My PT and absolute babe Angeline is hosting weekly LBT workouts on her page and they are bloody brilliant.

Wednesday:
Wednesday Wine Club with @esteelalonde and @rebecca.munroe at 7pm: If you’re up for a natter with some wonderful women with a glass (even if it’s a lemonade) this is a great space for a chatter and a giggle.
Bingo with @julesandsarahpodcast at 8pm: If you need a mid week LIFT this has to be it. The absolute best @julesvonhep and @thissarahpowell doing Bingo. Or Bev. Sometimes Keith. Always Maureen.
Thursday:
’80s Aerobic workout with @moveyourframe: Okay this isn’t an Instagram Live, but if you want a fun Fonda-esque workout towards the end of your week I can’t recommend checking out Frame’s online classes enough. Monthly subscription with unlimited streams!
#getdressedforwork with @emsladedmondson at 3pm: Live interviews with wonderful women about working from home, getting dressed, motivation and everything in between.
Friday:
Hand in Hand Live at 5pm with @loudoillon: Beautiful story and poetry readings with the incredible Lou Doillon and (sometimes) her mother Jane Birkin too.
Pub quiz at The Stay Inn with @lucysheridan at 8pm: Oh this girl LOVES a quiz- and Lucy’s is a brilliant pub quiz stand in each week. Tune in and get competitive!
Saturday:
At Home With… @theannaedit and @lilypebbles at 1:30pm: If you want a chatter and watch-along whilst you bake Anna’s cookies, then this is the live for you.
Noel Fielding’s Art Club 3pm: With a different theme every week, Noel challenges you to get creative with different mediums and sometimes with a very special guest judge too.
Sunday:
End of the week quizzing with @jessiloumilton: In case you’re craving a little more trivia, Jessi normally does a Sunday night quiz too!
******
But there’s more!
Obviously there are tonnes of brilliant lives going on daily- and some of them just don’t stick to a schedule, but fear not! I’ve listed below the people to keep checking in on both daily, and every now and again if you’re after a little more…
The people worth checking in on for a great live (and who do them most days, if not every day):
@africabrooke for beautiful conversations on self sabotage and coaching, @holliepoetry for wonderful readings, @katiejanehughes for chats and wonderful make up tutorials, @carolinehirons for unrivalled skincare advice and tips, @sophia_roe for DMC’s with her and her brilliant circle, @babba for brilliant lives every Tuesday and Thursday at 10am (EST)

Good In Bed: The Best Nightwear And My Favourite PJs
*affiliate links used
I feel like this post needs to begin with a disclaimer. Not all of my pyjamas are this fancy (I was so, SO close to putting ‘but you never know who you might meet in your dreams’ but didn’t- you are welcome)…
But when nightwear turns to daywear, and whether you’re working from home or running in after work and wanting to decompress- a good pair of jim jams never did anybody wrong. To me, they’re one of my biggest ‘self care’ treats- some freshly ironed pjs ready after my bath or shower. PHWOAR.
But honestly, in the last couple of years I think I have ~levelled up~ a little in the nightwear game. My pyjama wear scales have tipped from old t-shirts (my favourite being a We Are Scientists one Joe gave me when we first started going out 11 years ago) to floral frilled linen sets as if I were an Austen extra or what I imagine Florence Welch wears when making her Frosted Wheats in the morning. IT’S ONE EXTREME TO ANOTHER AND I’M NOT SURE WHO I AM. But that’s fine- not every day is silky sets or boxers and band t shirts, and that’s what keeps things exciting around here- right. Right?
Anyway, today I thought I’d share my absolute favourite spots for sleepwear- because if anything is going to help catch the z’s it’s this lot…

Your Trusty Cottons
From the classic ‘Wee Willy Winkie’ jammies, toothpaste stripes and a few frills and florals in-between- this is your gang for the breton striped top of the pyjama world…
Desmond & Dempsey: Colourful hand-painted in London prints, quilted dressing gowns and a gorgeous story of a couple who bloody love a great pyjama shirt.
Sleeper: For two pieces and nightdresses too pretty to reserve solely for the bedroom- the perfect day-to-night no change ever options in the dreamiest florals. Also, feathered and ruffled sleeves. I’ll say no more.
Toast: The kind of pyjamas that Jo March would wear- perfect cottons and linens, rosebud prints and subtle peter pan collars.
Alexa Chung: From two pieces that would be good enough for the silver screen, wear these out, in bed and on holiday (eventually).
Yawn: The equivalent of a dress with pockets, these PJs are beautifully printed and equipped with pockets too- what more could you want?
Honna: The ultimate toothpaste stripe timeless jim-jam. 10/10 on the chic scale.
Ban.do: If your sleepwear is needing a bit of fun- Ban.do are the place to go. From a nightdress that I call my Homer Moo Moo to prints that’ll have you smiling just looking at them. Aaah…

Kate Barnét: With prints sourced from Delhi and a range consisting of beautiful two pieces, camis, nightdresses and silk gowns- they’re a dream (in more ways than one).
Jaipur Jammies: Designed in London, hand block printed in Jaipur and introduced to me by the gorgeous girls at A South London Makers Market– these are truly beautiful.
Doen: I know nobody asked, but in my dream world this is what I wear all the time forever and ever.

The High Street Honeyz
Because no matter what your budget there are some cracking sets out there…
Oliver Bonas: The latest (and most welcome) addition on the nightwear set. I have the mint pair and they are one of my favourite pairs ever.
John Lewis & Partners: The perfect place for a timeless set of pyjamas in a wonderful variety of styles.
Arket: If you’re the kind of person that wears cool clothes you might as well get some cool nightwear to boot, right?
The White Company: For the most beautiful, simple pyjamas in gorgeous prints and clean shapes.
Cath Kidston: Is there really anywhere else to get crockery worthy chintzy print pyjamas? I don’t think so…
H&M: With everything from shirt sets, cami’s, jersey frills and a new collaboration with Desmond & Dempsey- they’ve got a pretty top selection.
Zara Home: Think affordable prairie nightdresses and classic cottons. A bit of a gem!

And the silk sets…
For some true grown-up luxury, here are the fanciest of the bunch for a true bedtime treat…
Love Stories Intimates: One of my favourite brands for underwear and pyjamas, they don’t have a huge selection but always have some true gems (see my holiday ones below).
Olivia von Halle: Hey now, hey now- these are what pyjama dreeeeams are made of.
Karen Mabon: Do I need say more than dog pyjamas? Okay BOOK PYJAMAS. The most exceptional quality and prints ever.
Liberty: Truly heavenly classic Liberty print pyjamas in both silk and cotton.
Chinti & Parker: Investment rainbow stripes and cute-as-a-button sleep masks.
Asceno: The creme de la creme of fancy pyjamas. A true investment (but one you can rest assured knowing you can wear them for pretty much every situation).

And my top tips for buying pyjamas?
For goodness sake, never get your actual clothes size in pyjamas. What are you trying to prove?! Size up if you can because these are meant to be comfortable and you should not feel restricted in yer jim jams. Ever.
Make sure they’re easy to wash- I know I’ve shared some silk pairs above (both of which I’ve washed on cool again and again and been safe with)- but do check, because dry clean only pyjamas should be reserved for weddings only- who can be dry cleaning their jammies!?

The Lockdown Listens: The Pick Me Up Playlist
And a glorious throwback Photo Booth laptop photo shoot, because I know how to create that #content!
I know there’s a million and one playlists that have been made to suit each individual’s lockdown experience, so hey- I thought I’d throw my hat in the ring and offer up my own too! A top 100 (ish) songs that will pretty much always pick me up- from quarantine to PMS and everything in-between- it’s almost always a sure bet.
Now, a heads up- it’s not an overly cool or curated playlist. There’s Steps, S Club and then Julie Andrews. But there’s also Pulp, Blood Orange and Tame Impala- so I guess it totally depends what your idea of ‘cool’ is, because whatever end of the spectrum it sits on- this has ‘cool’ no matter how you define it (I think? Oh god I’ve said too much and now the pressure is kicking in).
Anyway- I’ve learnt it’s hard to create the perfect pick me up playlist without it veering into very unusual territory- but I think… *think* it’s a start (although we did go from Miley Cyrus to Randy Newman to The Housemartins, so I’m not over-promising here). I’ll be adding to it on the regs because I know I’ve forgotten a heap of great songs- but if you’re perching your head out of the window for some lunch time rays, heading out for an endorphin fuelled jog, or wondering when to get out of bed- I hope this lifts you a little and you enjoy it!
Here’s the big ol’ link to it on Spotify too– I have about 5000 other playlists if this isn’t quite up your street too- happy listening!

The Beauty Products Worth Putting Make Up On For
*contains gifted item/affiliate link
Okay, okay hear me out here. Before I begin, at the moment make up feels like a special occasion. Today, Monday- I began the day and PUT MAKE UP ON, and I feel like I could take over the world (or, ahem, walk to the supermarket without crying- which is close).
It’s a ~process~ I think I’ve taken for granted, and although I very much enjoy the luxury of having to do sweet FA in the mornings to consider myself ‘presentable’- actually, I’ve realised, I quite enjoy popping a bit of slap on to get myself ready each day- and if that makes me a bit vapid, or whatever, so be it! Because this woman loves a liner!
Anyway- as much as I love make up, I’m still in isolation like everyone else. The thought of putting on a gradient eyeshadow look, lipstick with lip liner or drawing daisies on my lids is strictly for special special occasions (maybe on my birthday or when I’m seriously dry in the content department) because that deserves to be seen and celebrated. SO! If you’re looking for a handful of products, or a suggestion of a #squad that are worth getting ready for, let me introduce you to a few favourites…
The Foundation that’s a serum WITH SPF
Talk about a product that is putting the hours in- this is your guy. The Bobbi Brown Intensive Skin Serum Foundation SPF 40*, yo! Whether you use a brush, or apply it like a serum after your morning cleanse, it’s a wonder worker at evening skin tone, protecting you from the sun, smells amazing and also provides really blinking decent coverage too (whilst still bringing the glow)- alongside the NARS Natural Radiant Longwear foundation, these two are absolute gems whatever kind of day you’re having.
The ‘god-did-your-brow-lady-come-to-yours-during-QUARANTINE?!’ brow gel
Nope she didn’t! I did nothing! Just swiped a bit of the Arch Brow Shaping Gel* on from Hourglass and I was set! I’ve used the tinted version for as long as I can remember (I use dark brown) but have recently just been popping on the clear one if I need a bit of a quick brow groom. Simples.
The ‘nope, no mascara just curlers because I am, in fact, Lisa Eldridge’
One thing the wonderful Zoe Taylor taught me (and my mum also did, in fact) the power of were eyelash curlers. GOD THEY ARE TRANSFORMATIVE. Literally even if I don’t put on a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g else on and curl my lashes I look at least semi awake, which is amazing. My favourites are the Kevyn Aucoin ones, and I truly cannot recommend them enough.
The fancy bronzer, which I will buy again and again
I’ve had the Diorskin Mineral Nude* bronzer since time began, which a) shows how long it lasts and b) is a good sign it never leaves my make up bag because I still have it to hand. This is such a brilliant, glowy bronzer-which never feels too orangey and applies so beautifully and gently that you actually look sun kissed without Year 8 in 2005 bronzer vibes. Win win.
The blush that you can wear… everywhere
The Chanel Les Beiges Blush stick* is a diamond, and is the perfect product at doing a true ‘all in one’ make up look. Pop it on your cheeks for a flush, eyes for a dewy shadow, and even lips to tie it all together. It’s one of the products that I always have with me, in a handbag (remember those?) or just floating around.
And the power balm…
I am a sucker for a lip balm, and currently my lips feel drier than ever (I can confirm I am not encouraging the problem with my excessive lip balm use, I promise). Enter the Chanel Hydra Beauty balm*, which is every bit a treat as it is a total lip thirst quencher. Other favourites include the Mango balm dot com, LoveJamila’s multi balm* and the Kiehl’s Butterstick* too (not a stick of butter, FYI).

Okay one more- the best liquid liner…
I know liquid eyeliner might feel ‘a bit much’ for days at home, but if you’re in the market for one that’s not only easy to apply, lasts all day and has the perfect black pigmentation- may I introduce you to this Rouje bad boy. Named L’Eyeliner* (because everything sounds cooler in French)- this has quickly become a total make up bag staple and makes me feel very much together, on days I am very much not.
and to see the application…

The Best Online Vintage: A Concise Guide
Is there anything as satisfying as finding the perfect vintage item? Even if it’s online, the buzz of discovering a print, cut or collar that feels so perfect for you is like the moment you remember you have frozen pastries in the freezer; a magical proud moment, where you know you’ll never let them go…
But unlike pastries, finding a vintage treasure is nearly always one off (y’know, excluding during a pandemic of course). The hunt is like a brilliant chase, with the reward being something you can treasure forever- an item built up of stories, often made so beautifully and something that you can add to the museum of you- ready to give it a second life in this modern world…Okay okay- perhaps I’m getting a little too romantic here. But there is something wildly romantic about vintage shopping. It feels more considered, less rushed. Even if you are on the hunt for something in particular with limited time, the discovery feels so much sweeter once you stumble across it.
Vintage doesn’t have to mean puffed eighties sleeves, static fabrics and bridesmaids dresses you might’ve seen your mum wear back in 1983. It can mean clean cut tailoring, subtle details and attention to detail that ‘you just don’t get anymore’. I’m hardly a vintage veteran, but having been rummaging through charity shops and the big old scarf basket at Beyond Retro since I was about 14- I’d like to think I can spot a good piece when I see one…
So here we are! Some of my favourite spots on the internet for a good vintage rummage. These are certainly only the tip of the iceberg, but I tried to narrow it down to avoid typical ‘vintage overwhelm’! I’ll be working on some ‘IRL vintage shopping spots soon’ (starting with my London guide), but in the meantime, happy shopping, stay safe and stay home (because I promise you *that* blouse can make it’s way to you)…
