Giftmas Gift Guides 2020: Day 6, Buying For Him…

(Italian hamper, Falke socks, Pasta making kit, Polaroid sx-70, Maison Margiela Replica ‘By The Fireplace’, Boy de Chanel gel moisturiser, Accidentally Wes Anderson book)

*post contains affiliate links and press samples
For day 6 of Giftmas, it was all about shopping for him…

I’m pretty sure I say this every year, but there’s something that is quite tricky about putting a gift guide solely for ‘the man in your life’ together without playing serious gender cliché bingo. Living with a man who does not solely get his kicks from cars, gin or home-brewing (but admittedly loves football and cooking steak), it’s a fine line to tread without ever veering into the obvious- but I suppose that’s what gift guides normally are (and sometimes things are cliché for a reason). It’s the same with any category, but I’d like to think these have all been given the Joe seal of approval, and sometimes when it comes to dads or granddads, it’s the failsafe options that are sometimes the most reliable.

Anyway- I’ll start with food. Whether that’s for a partner or parent, who wouldn’t love an Italian hamper rocking up at their door? I suggested a few options earlier this week– but even if you’re hitting your local Italian, or general deli up and building your own, it certainly doesn’t have to be expensive to be thoughtful (I love Good Food for fellow South Londonders)! On top of that, last year Joe got a pasta making kit and it’s been something that we’ve turned to again and again this year- and would make such a brilliant gift for any budding home chefs in your life. Veering slightly into the predictable yet reliable, are world’s best socks from Falke (honestly, I didn’t think I cared about socks until I tried these) and a fragrance from Maison Margiela that Joe wears almost every day and I love. They have such a brilliant selection of unisex fragrances- and often do customisable bottles this time of year too, so keep an eye out for those! In case he’s into his skincare Chanel also have a brilliant selection of men’s skincare which I think is pretty brilliant (especially if it’s anything like their women’s offering too). I’ve also included the new Accidentally Wes Anderson book (because, honestly- can you really go wrong with a coffee table book for Christmas?) As well as the Polaroid sx-70 camera, which is one of my most treasured items, and would make an unforgettable Christmas present if you’re looking to really treat them too.

A few other suggestions from some brilliant brands…

Our Daily Edit: For a curated selection of brilliant men’s clothing and brands.
Triangle Store Hackney: Covering everything from grooming, mid century furniture to clothes and lifestyle.
Moments Of Sense And Style: From the most incredible custom art prints to candles and notebooks, MOSS have the most beautiful selection.
Podcast Events: A lot of brilliant podcasts are doing live events at the moment (the Guardian Football Weekly just did one), so if there’s an independent podcast he loves, you could always get tickets or register them for their Patreon (if they haven’t already).
Haeckels: For ultimate pampering, body care and lifestyle- Haeckels are a complete skincare haven.
Life Story Edinburgh: For interiors and lifestyle, Life Story have the coolest selection.

I’ve also added previous links to guides for the men in your life, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!

Giftmas Gift Guides 2020: Day 5, For Your BFFL…

(Vintage blouse, Sighh x The Insecure Girls’ Club notepad, Emma London Vintage earrings, NARs palette, The Skirt Chronicles magazine, Maison Archives clip, Catbird Necklace, Blóma earrings, Willemien Bardawel print)

For day 5 of Giftmas, it was all about giving to your BFFL…

Now, this is a big old category- because your best friend can literally have a taste or interest in anything. You both might be athleisure-loving fitness fanatics, have a keen eye for bird watching or even both know your way around a sewing machine and some knitting needles, so this category admittedly, may very well miss the mark. You both might be polar opposites too, in which case you definitely know them better than I could ever attempt (duh). BUT! Going on the fact that my best friends and I have very similar tastes, I’ve pretty much picked out a series of things I particularly love (and would naturally be most gratefully received by yours truly too). Sometimes gift buying comes down to picking something you know you’d love to open, and when I think of shopping for my best friend- that’s usually a relatively safe way to go.

Anyway- I’ve started with a vintage blouse- although this one is from The Pansy Garden (and vintage), I think there’s something so special about picking them out something one of a kind, providing you’re confident in their size and style. Vintage is so brilliant for this (Etsy is a great place, but I also have a starters guide here), and I think it’s always pretty magical to open too. In terms of something a little more keepsake, I love the vintage jewellery selection from Emma London Vintage– and these earrings are no different. She has the coolest variety of picks, all with brilliant past stories and aesthetics too. Other beautiful jewellery picks come in from Catbird (certainly a little more on the spendy side but personally some of my favourite pieces in the world) and Blóma– who do the most gorgeous handmade earrings and accessories, who always, always go down a treat too. Carrying on from accessories- I’ve included this little cute-as-a-button clip from Maison Archives– who do the best hair accessories and collars in the game (trust me). There’s also a dreamy eyeshadow palette from NARs (this is their Orgasm eye palette which is THE best) in case you’re both constantly swapping beauty tips too. Stationery wise, I’ve included another favourite from the Sighh x The Insecure Girls’ Club collection to help pick them up when they need it- and also one of my favourite magazines, which not only looks beautiful but is packed with gorgeous reads, essays and articles too. A subscription is always such a lovely idea too- if you have a little more budget! Finally, for something uber personal, there are so many incredible artists who offer custom, original or pre-made prints too. Willemien Bardawel is one of my favourite discoveries of the last year (thanks to the South London Makers’ Market), and her work is absolutely heavenly (and you can now shop it at Liberty too)!

Other special ideas for the friend that’s worth it…

Take them shopping: If you want something you know they won’t have perhaps treat them to an appointment with Laura von Behr for a truly heavenly vintage experience. You can try on together (regulations permitting) and grab a nice bit of lunch afterwards- dream afternoon!
Tidy Street Store: For premium ladies wear and incredible brands (be it clothes, jewellery or beauty)- this Brighton based business is one of my favourites.
S120: One of my top spots for accessories and quirky gifts, s120 is a one stop shop.
Pico The Store: For gorgeous and affordable dainty jewellery (I love their birth year necklaces) check out Pico , Mood Good and Cult of Youth .
Candle Customisation: We’re talking ultimate personalised candles here- and my two go-to’s are Kindred Fires and Pepper Loves .
The Crop: One of the most beautiful jewellery stores, they also have a collaboration coming out with Liv & Dom which I know will be heaven.
inNEOSS: For beautiful brands, designers and home wares you’re bound to be discovering for the first time.
Joan The Store: Whether that’s for accessories from my pal Dulcie at Human Sea Vintage , or other wonderful women- this spot is incredible.
Olivia Annabelle: For the most stunning dresses, blouses, collars and accessories- look no further than this magical brand.
Elizabeth An’ Marie: You want the cosiest and coolest knitwear in town? Look no further.
Papersmiths: For everything from stationery, the most interesting books and cards to make their heart full- Papersmiths has it all.

I’ve also added previous links to guides which cater to your special mate, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!

Giftmas Gift Guides 2020: Day 4, For The Pal In Need Of A Pamper…

(Kate Barnét pyjamas, Bobbi Brown palette, Shoreditch Nails polishes, Space NK Shimmering Spice candle, Neighbourhood Botanicals Night Oil, Glossier Body Hero bar, Herbivore Botanicals bath soak, Oliver Bonas bath oil, Sleeper slippers, Notes on Love book)

*post contains affiliate links and press samples
For day 4 of Giftmas, it’s all about some serious TLC for your loved one…

In a sense, I feel like I should have called this category the ‘failsafe’ category. The one packed with woollens, cosies, bath products and the things that we so rarely treat ourselves to, but are always always happy to see bundled up under the tree (at least I am anyway). I truly don’t think you can ever go too wrong with anything from pyjamas to bubble bath- and, as sometimes ‘predictable’ and perhaps go-to as they are as gifts, they’re definitely that for a reason. That, or I’m definitely getting older- one or the other.

Anyway- I’ll begin with some of my favourite jammies online, which come from Kate Barnét. Not only are they the comfiest I’ve worn, but the prints she selects are what dreams are made of, and I know that I’d be very happy to see these again and again wrapped in ribbon name tagged for me. The same goes for these slippers from Sleeper. These are definitely a bigger investment gift, but are some of the cosiest, most classic slippers I’ve seen (who also happen to be by the brand of 2020 too, ooer)! For this guide, I also wanted to include a few products I absolutely love, but know I’d perhaps not treat myself to- often thinking they’d be a little ‘indulgent’ just to buy for myself, but knowing how brilliant they are- would definitely pick them up now. These include the Herbivore Botanicals bath soak (in fact any of their delicious bath products), the Neighbourhood Botanicals ‘Dream Dream Dream’ face oil (which is arguably one of my favourite products and a total repurchase-r) and the new Space NK Shimmering Spice candle, which is perhaps one of the most perfect Christmas fragranced candles I’ve tried and think it would pretty much be the perfect gift for just about anyone. For some more purse-friendly pampering, there’s the Oliver Bonas rose bath oil (which comes in the prettiest packaging) and Glossier’s new exfoliating bar which smells heavenly. I’ve also added in a couple of beauty picks, including a dreamy palette from Bobbi Brown’s Christmas offering (which is always 10/10) and the new vegan polishes from Shoreditch Nails (the ladies are also offering vouchers and online workshops too, if you’d rather pick up a pal a little post-lockdown treatment too). Finally, for the ultimate bath time reading, there’s this Notes on Love book. With essays from some of my favourite writers, it’s the perfect read to curl up with on a cold evening, and would make the most thoughtful present too.

Other wonderful treats to help that friend fully relax…

Goods Lewes: For beautiful beauty products and slow living wares look no further.
The ultimate treat: For a post-festive pamper, a voucher for or towards a treatment is never amiss. Two of my London favourites include (but are very much not limited to) Pfeffer Sal facials (who currently are doing online consultations which could also be a dream for someone outside of the city) & Gazelli Wellbeing for their full body treatments.
Rare Birds Subscription: For the reader that doesn’t commit to a good unwind, a subscription to the Rare Birds book club (which specialises in women’s fiction) would make a gorgeous gift.
Perfect PJs: For further jim-jam inspiration, Honna are another huge favourite- but check out my full sleepwear guide for more ideas here.
Caroline Hirons ‘SkinCare’: For the beauty and skincare lover, this book is basically an essential. The holy grail of all things skin.
Pai Skincare: For truly beautiful organic, and vegan products that work wonders- Pai are my go to (and also have a few lovely gifting options this year too).
Sancho’s: Although largely beautiful fashion, I love the nightwear and beauty selection on ethical store, Sancho’s website. Their slipper selection is also chefs kiss.
The Lather Box: Give them something new to try with these plastic free hair and body bars that will not only last, but be doing a little bit of good for the planet too.

I’ve also added previous links to guides which largely fall under pamper and beauty brolly, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!

Giftmas Gift Guides 2020: Day 3, For the Foodie…

(Good Candles ‘School Dinners’ candle, Ravneet Gill’s The Pastry Chef’s Guide, Fortnum’s chocolate bars, Helm Provisions box, Arthouse Unlimited chocolate, Lucy Burton Bakes Christmas brownies, Pazner’s Deli Hamper, Authentic East Asian cooking sauces from ChinaeastSezme)

*post contains affiliate links
For day 3 of Giftmas, we’re talking all things food (which wasn’t a good idea to write at lunch time…)

When it comes to writing a gift guide for a ‘foodie’- what I probably really mean, is anyone who likes food. This isn’t necessarily for a Jay Rayner-style critic or a fine dining extraordinaire, but someone who might like to spend a little time in the kitchen- or even just on the sofa eating the contents of aforementioned kitchen too. Obviously at the moment there are also tonnes of incredible local restaurants offering hampers, delivery and cook-at-home options- so rather than listing every place I’ve ever eaten and loved, have tried to keep it to a select few (but obviously suggest checking your favourite restaurants too, because there are some incredible options and would make a lovely doorstop surprise).

Anyway! The picks! I’ll start with the non-edibles which include this sweet-as-a-button (and smells it too) ‘School Dinners’ candle from Good Candles. There are four scents, but this totally captured my heart and I love the charity initiative behind (and story too)! I’ve also included the brilliant new cookbook from mega-babe Ravneet Gill which not only is so beautiful, but is so inspiring for all things sweet in the kitchen. Now, for chocolate! I included these Fortnum’s bars last year -which are not only delicious, but the names and packaging make for the loveliest little gift- as well as this Arthouse Unlimited bar, with the prettiest packaging I’ve seen. For treats to post direct, Lucy Burton’s Christmas post brownies are exceptional (and come in mulled spice and salted caramel, peppermint and dark chocolate brownie with crushed candy canes, candied Italian citrus peel and stem ginger and eggnog)- which are by far the most creative festive brownies I’ve seen. The ladies at Helm Provisions will always be high on my delicious deliveries list with their provisions boxes, and I’ve also added the Christmas offering from Panzer’s in too- because I don’t think I’ve ever not been excited by their gorgeous treats (and this is no different). Finally, for perfect stocking fillers, I’m in love with these homemade East Asian cooking sauces from ChinaeastSezme– they’re all under £5 and would be perfect for the avid home cook who wants to add in some truly authentic delicious touches to their cooking.

Other brilliant spots offering fantastic foodie fixes…

For the Babka baker: Give the gift of baking babka, without having to leave the house for ingredients! Shuk offer a dreamy kit for baking your own, with Painted Dog Bakehouse offering a pre-cooked dream if that’s just too much.
Something to look forward to: One day soon we will be able to eat in our favourite places, and supporting them by buying a voucher as a gift is a perfect idea. Spots like Dishoom are great for this, with places like Spring London doing home food deliveries too (with vouchers to buy for that also)!
Hampers and home deliveries: Okay, there are a lot of hampers out there- but this year the beautiful Jikoni are offering a truly beautiful basket (as a big treat option)- with bakeries like Pump Street offering chocolate boxes, and Monty’s doing their epic sandwich pack too.
Leaf Bold Street: For tea lovers, iconic Leaf on Bold Street offer membership to their Tea Club as a perfect gift, as well as a totally shoppable tea menu online.
The Mother Cooker: The perfect non-contact cookbook filled with seasonal cosy recipes for anyone. Treat someone to a cookbook straight to their tablet or phone for the ultimate no-nonsense cooking gift.
Bakes straight to their door: Oh my god THE CHOICE. Sending a delicious bake has never been easier and some of my favourites include Dees Basement (THE MADELEINES)! The Good News Baker , Nova Bakehouse and Joi Joi Bakehouse (who also do gorgeous masks too.
For the avid home-cake maker: If you want to send some gorgeous bake-at-home cake bits, look no further than Tiny Bakebox and Crumbs and Doilies for your cake fix.
Cooking for Christmas: One of my favourite people to follow, Bre Graham , has created the most beautiful Christmas-cooking zine with 12 festive recipes and would make the most gorgeous present for a food loving friend.
To decorate their table: If your recipient is a fan of hosting, help deck out their table with candles from Mou Mou Living and Bable . I’ve also fallen in love with Soeufshop (for all the egg lovers out there)!
And for the perfect Italian feast: Finally, if you want to treat someone to an unforgettable Italian dinner from home both Lina Stores and Artusi/Marcella are offering delivery (please check postcodes first)- any other brilliant UK wide Italian spots welcome too!

I’ve also added previous links to guides which largely fall under foodie umbrella, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!

Giftmas Gift Guides 2020: Day 2, For the Green Fingered Friend…

(Annie Dornan Smith calendar, Window Fleur box, Alexandra Nurseries vintage vase, Sage cutters, & Chai candle, Bloom & Wild subscription)

*post contains affiliate links
For day 2 of Giftmas, we’re talking about your friend that knows how to keep a plant alive (which isn’t necessarily a succulent)…

Ooerr! Is that a new category that we have here? This year, rather than doing ‘him, her, mum, dad’ etc, I thought I’d try and divvy things up into more personalised categories, based on tastes which aren’t governed necessarily by relationship or gender, but more-so what that person might like! I also realise I’ve never done a category solely focussed on all things green, so hopefully this might provide a little guidance- whether it’s for someone fully allotment savvy- mud in their nails and rosy flushed cheeks from the outside, a part time reluctant succulent mother- or just a pal with a nice window pane that could do with a little love.

For the inside, I’ve included this dreamy calendar by the ridiculously talented Annie Dornan Smith (who also does incredible prints, wrap and cards too)- I love how beautiful it looks as a feature too (and know I’d definitely end up repurposing the beautiful pictures afterwards)! There’s also this candle from the brilliant Michelle and Louise at & Chai, who do the most gorgeous fragrant candles and soy melts in the most delicious scents (I know they’ve been hugely popular, so give them a follow and keep checking back too)! I also thought I’d add in a vase from my local, and well loved, Alexandra Nurseries– so many garden centres are still open and operating- and they’re one that do incredible vintage wares as well as plants- which always make beautiful gifts. One of my favourite new discoveries are Window Fleur, a window box seasonal subscription service which offers a beautiful hand planted window box, changed seasonally delivered to your door. It’s one of the spendier items, but I think would make a gorgeous special ‘big’ or joint gift, especially if it’s something you know that person necessarily wouldn’t treat themselves to. I’ve also added in these incredible cutters from the girls at Sage (my favourite south London florist) who have partnered up with Sakagen (who produce some of the best floral scissors in the industry) which would make a brilliant present. Finally, subscriptions! Who doesn’t love a flower delivery? Luckily, there are so many to choose from and as well as the fail-safe Bloom & Wild subscription- Sage also do a monthly subscription which would also make the most thoughtful present too.

Other top brands doing some gorgeous gifts for plant lovers (and the more ‘outdoorsy’)…

Rae Lifestyle: For beautiful natural slow living lifestyle and vintage wares, Rae have a gorgeous selection (and also offering click and collect locally).
Conk: Handmade concrete planters and vases don’t come any chicer than these.
Matilda Goad: Those iconic scalloped planters? Count me in, sir!
Prick London: If you’re after high quality, low maintenance plants from £5 (or books, planters and everything in between), Prick London are delivering across the UK, which is bloody brilliant.
National Trust: Being one of the few places we can all visit, why not treat someone to a National Trust membership so they can soak up all the beauty spots the UK has to offer?
Grandfields: Whether it’s their merch, wreaths or beautiful blooms- Grandfields are doing some of the UK’s coolest flowers.
Straw London: From dried flowers, gardening accessories, intricately woven baskets and all the beautiful vases in between- Straw have the most beautiful inside/outside selection.
Don’t say it, sew it! From botanical inspired embroidery kits, for even the most unsuccessful plant parents.
Joanne Truby: Joanne’s beautiful cards and workshops are always such a treat, so (everything permitting), booking in for a workshop with her would be a perfect present.

and some extra picks…

Giftmas Gift Guides 2020: Day 1, A Little Something Lovely Under £20

(Wiggle by Wendy cards, Sighh x The Insecure Girls’ Club notebook & keyring, The Insecure Girls’ Handbook, Balm Dot Com, Caudalie Hand Cream Trio, The Stationer pencils & notecards, Liz Harry colouring book, Arthouse Unlimited soap)

*post contains affiliate links
It’s, erm, November! And you know what that doesn’t *usually* mean? Giftmas!

But hey, things are a little different this year, and I don’t think I need to go into too much detail about why these are a little earlier than usual- but hopefully whether you’ve started shopping, or are still in the planning stages- they’ll offer a little inspiration to get you started- all the while supporting small brilliant businesses who very much can get behind the extra lead time too. Anyway! It’s the same format as every year- my favourite picks for various categories over the week- with some extra bits you can click through too- only this year, with the addition of a small list of some of my favourite independent brands who are doing things that fit into certain categories too.

Now, there’s a lot of wonderful wonderful indie’s doing amazing things- and although I tried to include as many as I could- it’s also very much not possible for me to include everyone either (which I know you know, but I wish I could)! I still want these guides to feel handpicked and curated, so I hope you understand too. Thankfully, lots of brilliant creators on Instagram (be it individuals or businesses) are also sharing their favourites (check out Elly Pear, A South London Makers Market and Hand and Palm to get started)- so hopefully you’ll find a lot of goodness to give you ideas for this festive season!

Anyway!

To start off Giftmas, I’ve started with some gorgeous gifts under £20. Whether you’re shopping for a pal you know inside out, or a colleague you’ve ended up with through secret santa- hopefully these will supply a few ideas! One of the first things I was so excited to include is this gorgeous colouring book from colour queen Liz Harry. Liz’s pieces are absolutely dreamy, and I know this would make for a pretty top lockdown, or cosy evening with the TV on job. I’ve also included a couple of gorgeous stationery picks from The Stationer, some serious soap to make you smile from my favourites at Arthouse Unlimited– as well as a bit of shameless self promotion in a pretty decent read for a pal (if I can say so myself… Ahem). On top of that, I’ve added in the newest Balm Dot Com (because find me someone that doesn’t love a lip balm), and the new Caudalie handcream trio which comes in at a pretty brilliant £12, and would make a really thoughtful gift (especially this year)! Additionally, there’s a couple of my favourite pieces from the Sighh x The Insecure Girls’ Club collaboration, including this ‘No worries if not’ notepad (which is coming back very soon), and one of my favourite key rings. Everything in the collection is under £20, so it’s a pretty good place to start if you’re a little lost! Finally, how could I not include these Christmas cards by Wiggle by Wendy? Even if this year you’re simply looking for pretty cards to fill with sentiment, these are absolutely gorgeous- and I know that whoever would be opening one would be very happy indeed.

Other brilliant brands for beautiful bits under 20 quid…

Oaken: For the perfect socks that won’t make you go ‘oh, another pair of socks…’
Janet’s List: In particular their gift and beauty lists for dreamy ideas from brilliant Black owned businesses largely under £20.
One Soft Hand: For the most luxurious and beautiful bedside lavender bags (trust me, you’ll want this on display).
Textiles by Rachel: For her beautiful hand-drawn zodiac prints for £12.
Persephone Books: Buy a pal a classic book from an incredible female author ( Persephone reprints neglected fiction and non-fiction by mid-twentieth century (mostly) women writers), I love their perfect present list for unique book ideas.
The Happy Newspaper: Give someone something to smile about every few months with a subscription to Emily’s brilliant The Happy Newspaper.
Bare Bones Chocolate: The mini’s have launched and they are a DREAM. Plus, who doesn’t love receiving chocolate?
Poppy Almond: One of the coolest illustrators, a pack of Poppy’s cool vinyl stickers would make the perfect little gift to slip into a card.

I’ve also added previous links to guides which largely fall under the ‘under £30’ or ‘stocking filling’ umbrella, if you need further reading too (as well as some extra picks below)!

Introducing The Insecure Girls’ Club x Sighh!

Over the last few weeks over on Instagram, you may have seen me alluding to a bit of an exciting collaboration I’ve been working on over on The Insecure Girls’ Club– and today, after lots of zoom calls, WhatsApp voice notes, life affirming quotes and glitter or no glitter debates, IT IS FINALLY HERE! The Insecure Girls’ Club x Sighh collaboration of life, gift and stationery dreams (if I do say so myself)…

Firstly, let me introduce you to Polly. If, for some reason, you haven’t heard of her- a) where have you been?! (sorry, but really- she’s amazing) and b) let me quickly introduce you. Polly is the brains behind Sighh– a one stop shop for truly beautiful products with purpose. Be that a desk organiser to change your working day around, a keyring that makes you smile every time you hear it rattle or a card for a pal, that you know will make their day- she’s got you covered.

Having been a big-time fan of Polly and Sighh (nobody has articulated my fear of driving like her iconic keyring has), Charlotte and I were so excited to collaborate on some pretty fancy Instagram GIFs with her earlier this summer. Made for use on stories (you can find them by searching ‘TIGC’ on GIFs), we included some of our most used phrases (does ‘no worries if not!’ sound familiar?) and added a couple we all loved, such as ‘surviving and thriving’ and ‘working on myself, for myself’- ready to pick you up, or simply snazzy up a cheeky #ootd snap before you leave the house.

And that was just the start- having all loved working on that collaboration, we decided to do it again, this time for a collection of stationery, gifts and accessories for your home, office- or, well, wherever you’d like them. All with Polly’s signature wit, careful design and functional features- it’s an extension of a project we all had so much fun working on, and hope you love it as much as we do!

Now, it’s a big ol’ collection. With everything from enamel kery rings, prints (and a mini print pack), desk pads, stickers (AND SHINIES), Polly’s signature mirror decals (which I am fully *obsessed* with) and washi tape for all your wrapping and bullet journalling dreams- there’s a little something for everyone. Whether that’s your desk that needs some organisational motivation or your bathroom mirror that could definitely be doing more in the ‘YOU GOT THIS!’ front- I’d like to think we have you covered.

With pieces starting at £2.50 and going up to £15, I hope it’s something that’ll bring joy to your space, or make the perfect gift for a pal (especially for those organised enough to be ahead in the Christmas shopping game). Shipping is both UK and international, and if you’d like to check out the full collection, you can do so now! Enjoy, and naturally, no worries if not!

The Monthly Playlist: October

I wouldn’t normally be so prompt with putting a playlist out the month I made it (especially as most songs aren’t ‘seasonal’ and a little delay literally makes no difference to anyone at all- BUT, because I want to remind you that I also have a spooky playlist (with Steps) you can pop on today, it seemed only apt to share the non-spooky October offering too, in case you’re more into joyful dancing and a peppering of Spanish (which, let’s be honest, who isn’t?)

Anyway, this months listens include one of the coolest covers I’ve heard recently from Tennis, lots of McCartney (naturally) and a couple of new ones from Boy Pablo and The Magic Gang which I’ve played so much Joe has asked to hear something, anything, different.

It’s a typical Liv mixed bag (if you want something a little more seasonal and cosy may I recommend this ‘Autumn in New York’ playlist from Catbird as well as the iconic soundtrack from When Harry Met Sally), but I hope you enjoy listening, and perhaps discover a couple of goodies to fill your weekend with a little boogie.

T Rex – Life’s A Gas
Bob Dylan – Idiot Wind
The Beatles – Martha My Dear
The Beatles – Do You Want To Know A Secret
Everything But The Girl – Each And Every One
Tennis – Superstar
Wings – Baby’s Request
Carpenters – Superstar (how could you not?)
Lianne La Havas – Weird Fishes

10. Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong – Our Love Is Here To Stay

11. T Rex – Cosmic Dancer

How To Style Summer Dresses for Autumn

*contains press samples and affiliate links
In the past I’ve definitely been guilty of packing up a good majority of my summer clothes, storing them away and reserving them for next years sunny days. So often without even considering how they might fare for winter, how they might look styled slightly differently and how actually, they weren’t just made to be a one-season wonder.

It’s a combination of being fortunate enough to buy ‘seasonal’ pieces- perhaps for hot days, summer holidays weddings, but also being quite narrow minded that to me- winter wardrobes often look like knitwear, jeans and thick coats- and not floaty, short-sleeved prairie dresses. It’s a shopping privilege that affords little creativity when it comes to repurposing what you already have, and so often instead picking up ‘winter’ alternatives to fill the gaps that perhaps don’t even exist.

It’s no revelation that these favourite items can so easily be multifaceted- layered, restyled, and kept hanging for all 12 months of the year- but perhaps this year, or in the last few at least- I’ve started shopping for pieces that will see me through all manner of occasions. There will always be the tiny white linen beach dresses that will probably be a little redundant come November, but there’s something quite refreshing knowing that each season my favourite pieces take on a new lease of life and can be reimagined- just probably with some leggings and a beret in tow instead…

  The basics- a good denier…

Christ- you didn’t come here for me to tell you to wear a cute dress with tights BUT HERE WE GO. But, styled with some 180 deniers and some solid leaf crunching boots- your favourite ‘70s mini can really take on a new life when things get cooler.

In the summer dresses like this for me would normally be styled with Mary-Janes or a high-top trainer- but pairing it with something a little more heavy changes the proportions and toughens up something I’d worn so differently. Plus, throw on your favourite beret and you’ve got yourself a whole new ~lewk~. Plus, if you’re working with midi lengths, nana over here also highly recommends a good pair of leggings or long Johns (I know, I know)- anything woolen or thick cotton though- to avoid static and sticking, but will keep you warm without having to whip out tights just yet.

White boots & knitwear…

When it comes to dresses I’d find myself typically pairing with trainers or a strappy sandal (because sometimes, just sometimes I fancy myself as a cool ‘90s inspired Insta girl), there’s something very cool and transformative about a seventies inspired white witchy boot as your high-top alternative.

This year I picked up this pair from Monki*, and they’ve truly breathed new life into dresses I’d typically reserve for warmer months- and let’s be honest, this dress from Franks deserves outings all year round. They add a true Stevie Nicks spin to even the most conservative or simple of outfits, and paired with a chunky cardigan over something a little more fitted, I feel very much like I’m (attempting) to channel my inner Jeanne Damas, which is never a bad thing.

  The Steve Jobs turtle neck…

To me, there’s something very seventies and Christmas Top Of The Pops about a square, or round low neckline paired with a high turtle neck (or frill blouse). It’s also the easiest way of refashioning summer vintage pieces for when it gets colder too, without losing their charm or ‘period spin’. Although this dress is a little sheer (so you can see the jumper ever so slightly)- you could probably throw in some tights too, and you’d be set. Until recently, I’d always kept polo and turtle necks for thick wooly trousers or more printed mini skirts- so have (very late) discovered how brilliant they are as a sole layering piece too. The white blouse of the cold months, people!

I’d also throw on a trench over the top if you wanted to keep things relatively modern, but love how this looks with my favourite white boots, and how comfortable it is too- which makes it a solid 10 in my book.

(Dress: Another Matinee, Jumper: ASOS*, Boots: Monki* sold out but similar here*, Bag: Marks and Spencer*)

  The sweater vest…

And finally, would any summer dress this year be fully functional without the humble and newly reinvented sweater vest? 2020 has had a lot of curveballs and surprises (the nice way of putting it)- and I’m sure the resurgence of the grandpa knitted tank is up there. HIGH UP THERE. Okay, it might not be that dramatic, but it wasn’t an item I imagined spending evenings hunting down on Depop, or fawning over on Mango- but there we go.

It’s cosy, it’s warm and perhaps all along our grandparents really knew something we didn’t about these bad boys. Anyway- thrown over a pretty dress, not only will they keep you snug- but they’ll give you something fun to coordinate other pieces with, and make you feel like you’re actually a cool Danish fashion blogger, when really you’re parading around by some scaffolding on a quiet residential street in south east London, win win!

(Dress: gifted from Ghost, Vest: similar from Mango*, Boots: Ganni, Bag: gifted from Aspinal*)

How To Spend A Day (Or Two) In Falmouth

During our week in Cornwall, and having a car to hand- we were set on exploring a little further afield, and ticking off some new corners of the beautiful south west.

One place that came up time and time again was Falmouth, somewhere I’d heard lots of wonderful things about from friends, but somewhere that I’d never managed to tick off my ‘to visit’ list.

With the drive from our cottage hovering just under 45 minutes and a hugely generous amount of recommendations to hand, we buckled up and headed across the coast- certain that a day in the town would be far from enough time to see even a handful of the suggestions on our list- but goodness, we’d give it a good go. I don’t think I’ve ever had as many delicious food recommendations come through for one place so quickly, so ensuring we had empty bellies and a bit of a plan- it was all systems go for an afternoon of some serious exploring (a.k.a sitting in tea rooms and walking off scones on beautiful coastal paths)…

Although we didn’t quite manage to tick everything off (I think we’ll allow a week next time), I’ve popped below the things we did manage to do- as well as the things I hope to do next time, in case anyone is planning a slightly longer visit. Falmouth is such a beautiful spot- and not only boasts so many beauty spots from the harbor to its beaches, but oozes endless food and independent shopping options (so much so, one kind reader said that on special occasions it’s very normal to aim to go out for breakfast, lunch and dinner- the offerings are that good)!

  Eating…

Although we only had a day in the town, finding a gorgeous lunch spot was high on our list. After much deliberation we opted for the much-loved Dolly’s– a tearoom and wine bar on the popular Church Street; with a menu fuelled by traditional sandwich options and the most delicious cheese toasties, scones and soups too (my brothers croque monsieur was so good he nearly ordered a second to go). Plus, Pearl the springer was also on duty- so it’s safe to say we received a very warm welcome too…

And for next time…
Gylly beach café – Good Vibes – Indidog – Pandora Inn
Blue Jeans And Moonbeams – Star & Garter – Mangia – Bros – Espressini
Provedore – Beerwolf – Courtyard Deli – Cribs –
The Seafood Bar – Harbour Lights Fish & Chips – Five Degrees West

Seeing…

One of the most beautiful things about the town, is that beyond the high street there is so much natural beauty to soak up and explore- most of which is possible even without a car too. From the harbour, stretches of sandy beaches, National Maritime Museum and array of lush gardens nearby- it’s a true haven for both the indoorsy and outdoorsy too.

After our lunch, we took the short walk to Gyllyngvase beach, and then carried along the coastline and scenic coastal path to the stunning Swanpool beach– a smaller cove, but one that seemed to be a total favourite spot for locals swimming, after school rock pooling and quiet moments by the shore. It’s also home to highly recommended Hooked on the Rocks too, which overlooked the bay and would make for the most gorgeous dinner spot.

And for next time…
Potager Garden- Trebah Garden – Maenporth Beach
Pendennis Castle – Mylor Bridge – Muddy Beach
Flushing Beach – Star Glazers Pottery – Beside The Wave Gallery

  Shopping…

I’m almost certain it’s impossible for me to visit anywhere and not veer into any of the local shops. Whether it’s new vintage discoveries or just fawning over plants that definitely won’t travel all the way home- Falmouth has the most gorgeous selection of small businesses, so naturally it felt rude to walk right by and not have a nosey inside…

Where we visited:

Ondine Ash: Cosied up in Old Brewery Yard is the beautiful Ondine Ash- a haven of contemporary home and lifestyle pieces as well as dreamy plants too.

Oaken: Conveniently next door to Ondine Ash, this beautiful womenswear shop is home to some incredibly beautiful sustainably (and handmade) clothing and jewellery.

Parade: A gorgeous selection of handpicked British and Danish womenswear brands (peppered with some lovely gifts too).

The Bean Hive: For colour, stationery, lifestyle, vintage and the most brilliant independent brands and designers look no further. ALL. THE. PINK.

Willow & Stone: Stationery and lifestyle heaven. You could quite easily go just to fawn at the interiors, but with the most heavenly selection of everything from books, to cards, baby bits and traditionally home wear and fittings- you’ll be pushed to not walk away with a few treats.

Jam Records: One of the coolest record shops I’ve been to- downstairs feels like your cool friends mid-century living room, and you could spend hours flicking through the shelves of records.

Botanical Atelier: Dreamy botanical inspired prints, art materials and handpicked functional products, all inspired by nature and the beautiful outdoors.

Vintage Warehouse 13: I mean, how could I not? One of my favourite vintage shops in the town, but there’s lots of quirky little second hand shops to keep an eye out for too!

And for the way home…

Although our trip was short and sweet, rumour had it that it wouldn’t be complete without a quick trip to Stone’s Bakery for their iconic custard and jam donuts and a coffee pit stop at Beacon Coffee down the road. We definitely left with a slightly greater selection than just donuts- but with a queue outside and the window looking oh so inviting, it would be rude not to, right?

And for next time…
Choakes Pasties – Baker Tom’s Bread – Picnic (for beach lunch supplies)

I feel like this list truly only scratched the surface of this beautiful town, and I’m so excited to hopefully head back and see more of the gems it has to offer. Again, thank you all for all of your ridiculously kind recommendations- it certainly makes seeing a place feel all the more special when you have lots of great nods, so truly- thank you!
