An unexpected reunion…Rodeo Blues @KMNbooks @RebeccaJVickery #8sunday #snippetsunday
Enjoy a snippet from RODEO BLUES. Feedback is always appreciated.
If you're interested in last week's snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter 3, snippet 5
Snippet: This takes place a few paragraphs later from last week. Inside Big Bob's Saloon, Tye spots Sonny and Mike (friends from his youth) by the stage, setting up their band equipment. He hasn't spoken to them in ten years, and isn't sure how they'll react to his return. Tye decides it's time to find out.
This is in Tye's POV.
*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 10 sentence limit.
*********************************************************************************
"Hey, boys." Tye said in greeting. Both men turned toward him in unison. Mike was the first to recognize him and let out a whooping yell of greeting before he grabbed hold of him and pounded his back.
Tye stood six-two, Mike was two inches taller and solid muscle. He'd forgotten how strong Mike was and had to catch his balance after his friendly how-do-you-do of a welcome.
Sonny offered a handshake. "Hey Casper, thought we heard the last of you when you skedaddled out of here to ride them bulls."
"I told you I'd be back."
Sonny's dark brows rose. "Didn't realize it would be a decade later."
***********************************************************************************
Seems like Mike has no trouble with Tye's return, but what about Sonny? Seem a little standoffish to you?
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.

Eight Seconds to Lose the Girl…
One chance to win her back.
Tye Casper, a.k.a. the Ghost Rider and champion bull rider, should be the happiest cowboy alive, but when he left home ten years ago to make it big, he said goodbye to the only woman he has ever loved. He's had his eight seconds of glory, but without Jolie Lockhart by his side, the wins mean nothing.
He's been given an opportunity to return home to Skeeter Blue for one last rodeo. He believes fate has sent him there and he'll have a second chance with Jolie, but nothing goes as planned. He soon realizes staying seated on a bull for eight seconds may prove much simpler than winning Jolie's heart.

Some things never change… Rodeo Blues @KMNbooks @RebeccaJVickery #8sunday #snippetsunday
Enjoy a snippet from RODEO BLUES. Feedback is always appreciated.
If you're interested in last week's snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter 3, Snippet 4
Snippet: .
This is in Tye's POV. Tye has entered Big Bob's Saloon and realizes some things never change.
This takes place a few paragraphs later from last week's snippet.
*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 10 sentence limit.
*********************************************************************************
Big Bob's Saloon was one of them with its oversized dance floor and long bar with a mirror hanging on the wall overlooking the rows of bottles of liquor. Thursdays were 'ladies' night' when he'd left town and it seemed it still held the spot. The place swarmed with eligible women of all ages and just enough men to make it interesting. He'd bet there were people in the back room shooting pool too.
He glanced toward the stage when he heard two men arguing, and he smiled when he caught sight of Sonny and Mike going at it.
They still had the band, and he wondered if they went by the Brothers in Time, the name they came up with in high school. Mike had wanted Brothers from Another Mother, but they'd all vetoed it. Jimmy had been the one to suggest the final name they could all agree upon. Back then, he sang a little, but he fancied strumming the guitar over vocals. Sonny and Mike always argued how things should be done and by the looks of it, they hadn't found a way to compromise on the decision making yet.
***********************************************************************************
Sonny and Mike are long time friends. Wonder how they'll feel about seeing Tye after all these years.
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.

Rodeo Videos
We enjoyed a day in the sun at a Rodeo held in San Juan Capistrano at the Rancho Mission Riding Park. So much fun. In my tale Rodeo Blues, Tye Casper aka The Ghost Rider is a top notch bull rider. 8 seconds can seem like an eternity as the bull tries to unseat the rider. Take a gander at the video
below and see what I mean. Amazing what these riders endure for the win.
Rodeo video links of the highlights. Just click on the link. May take a moment to load depending on your computer.

Still standing…for now. Rodeo Blues @KMNbooks @RebeccaJVickery #8sunday #snippetsunday
Enjoy a snippet from RODEO BLUES. Feedback is always appreciated.
If you're interested in last week's snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter 3 snippet 3
Snippet: Sam, the old man who greets those going into Big Bob's Saloon, and Tye are catching up on what old friends have been up to. Sam told Tye that Jolie was married with six kids. Took Tye a few seconds but once Sam chuckled, he realized his panic was for nothing. Sam was only teasing him. This takes place a few paragraphs later from last week.
This is in Tye's POV. Sam is speaking first.
*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 10 sentence limit.
*********************************************************************************
"Still carrying a flame for the purdy gal, are you?"
"A torch, if you must know."
Sam let out a low whistle. "You better be doing some fancy talking 'cause you hurt that little gal when you left her at the altar."
He could argue he didn't technically leave her at the altar, but this was a small town. They'd been dating for a long time and everyone would have expected them to tie the knot sooner or later. It had been the plan, but it hadn't worked out in the end.
"You might be safer tackling a bull than with her," Sam said as he eyed him with a keen eye.
"Yeah, done that and I'm still standing."
"Good thing, but if you don't mind I'll lay my odds on Jolie."
***********************************************************************************
Thanks for the load of confidence, Sam. lol Only time will tell if Tye will still be standing after he finds Jolie. Tye doesn't strike me as one to give up. What do you think?
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.

This week another snippet from my new release, RODEO BLUES!
If you're interested in last week's snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter Three, Snippet Two
Snippet: Sam, the old man who greets those going into Big Bob's Saloon, and Tye are catching up on what old friends have been up to. Tye finally asks about Jolie.
This is in Tye's POV. Sam is speaking first.
*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 10 sentence limit.
*********************************************************************************
"Jolie Lockhart, now she's a girl a guy should hold onto," he said and stared at Tye over the top of his black-rimmed glasses, dropping a hint that was anything but subtle.
Tye cleared his throat. "Sam, she isn't … you know involved with anyone is she?" His cousin told him she wasn't seeing anyone, but that had been a few months ago. Things could have changed since then.
"Didn't no one tell you, boy? She's married and has six kids."
"What?" He swallowed back the panic. Had his cousin looked into the whereabouts of the wrong girl?
************************************************************************************
Hmm... nice chat. Do you suppose Sam really knows who his neighbor will be?
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.

Shootin’ the breeze… Rodeo Blues @KMNbooks @RebeccaJVickery #SPeekSunday #8sunday #snippetsunday
This week another snippet from my new release, RODEO BLUES!
If you're interested in last week's snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter Three, Snippet One
Snippet: Sam, the old man who greets those going into Big Bob's Saloon, and Tye are catching up on things. It's been ten years since Tye's been back to Skeeter Blue.
This is in Tye's POV, but Sam is speaking first in this snippet.
*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 10 sentence limit.
*********************************************************************************
"I know it's been a few years, but I was sorry to hear about your daddy's passing."
"We were never close."
"Still, it's not easy," he said and shook his head. "Heard someone took over your old homestead, and put up one of those oil drills." Sam met his gaze with meaning and added, "Looks like they're building a big fancy house too, and it looks near to done, but whoever's going to live there has been all mysterious, and this here is a small town. Seems like we should know our neighbor, don't you think?"
Growing up, Tye and his father had been poorer than spit, but his old man hadn't wanted to sell the land or listen to the prospectors that had insisted there was oil there. Stubborn fool had died in a tin can called a home with no more than twenty dollars in his pocket. There were commercials with: This is your brain on drugs, but there should be one for: This is your brain floating in a bottle of scotch.
"Guess someone finally got smart and put the land to good use," Tye said.

Meeting old friends… Rodeo Blues @KMNbooks @RebeccaJVickery #SPeekSunday #8sunday #snippetsunday
This week another snippet from my new release, RODEO BLUES!
If you're interested in last week's snippet of Rodeo Blues here you go: Chapter Two, Snippet One
Snippet: Rodeo Blues, Chapter Three, snippet one. Tye heads over the Big Bob's Saloon. He's a bit nervous to meet old friends... (Tye's POV.)
The neon sign, with a cowpoke kicking his spurs together and waving his hat, stood over the entrance as a welcome to the establishment. He wondered who would be there tonight, and how they would respond to his return. He hadn't really kept in touch with anyone in Skeeter Blue, and he'd never been any good at writing, or picking up a phone, for that matter.
As he approached, he spotted a familiar face working the front door. "Hey Sam," he said with a grin, "haven't they hauled your ol' carcass out of here yet?"
The old man turned toward him. He gave him a once over and for a moment he didn't think Sam recognized him, but then a smile creased his lips. "Well, I'll be damned; look what the cat dragged in." He rose from his stool and held out his hand. "Tye Casper, when did you roll into town?"
*The excerpt may have been modified to fit the 10 sentence limit.
*********************************************************************************
"There's a storm brewing, Jolie Lockhart, and the man of your dreams will be riding in on it. I've seen it in the cards."
Jolie glanced heavenward with a silent prayer for patience where Whisper was concerned. "I've never sat down for a reading with you."
"No, but you're a good friend and of course, I'm going to look out for you." She sipped more of her coffee then reached for her bag to retrieve her pastry.
Jolie sighed, not bothering to explain to Whisper for the umpteenth time that there was no man of her dreams. The man she had loved with all her heart left town a long time ago. She'd moved on since then, but she'd yet to find anyone else who'd captured her heart in the way he had. Storm or not, she doubted it would bring anything more than a good downpour.
************************************************************************************
Wonder who else Tye will meet tonight.
Hope you enjoyed the snippet.
