Chapter 5. This is in Sloane's POV.
Quick update from last week: Sloane made an attempt to flee from Derek, but he caught her. If things couldn't get any worse, Derek's brothers have arrived on the scene and are looking for Derek. Only Derek doesn't seem too keen on alerting them to where he is.

Derek murmured something under his breath, a curse she would imagine, but she didn't have time to think about it as he managed to drag her to her feet and usher her behind the shed with his body pressed against hers, in a manner that would be deemed inappropriate. "Don't even try to call out," he warned her.
She rolled her eyes at him. It was a little difficult to call out with his hand clamped over her mouth, but he didn't seem to notice.
"That's Axel, my brother," he said and gestured toward the back door. "You don't want to draw his attention. Whatever you're thinking about me, he's ten times worse. He reacts before he takes in the whole situation, and believe me little lady, you'll be toast."
She didn't understand any of this–Tim's attack and… Derek, the boy whose kisses made her toes curl–what was he doing here? Did he remember her?

A Lamia, a sea creature worthy of John Keats' prose, teams up with a vampire with serial tendencies. When young promising artists are found dead, the Preternatural Bureau sends Cassandra Hayes to the Hamptons to help a fellow hunter track down this lethal duo. She's only spoken to Mr. Green once on the phone and when she meets him in person, he is not what she expects. His hunting skills are spot on, but there is something the man is hiding, and she's determined to find out what it is despite the attraction developing between them.
Tremayne Graystone, a vampire from one of the oldest septs, is not pleased when he finds a dead hunter left on the doorstep of his pub. He should have never answered the hunter's phone, but someone is trying to frame him and he wants answers. Surely he can masquerade as Mr. Green, the hunter Cassandra is supposed to meet, before she figures out his true identity and stakes him. She's a Hayes, from a long line of vampire hunters, and fraternizing with the enemy is simply not done, but as they work together and follow the clues, the lines become blurred when he falls for the hunter's charms.

Tales wanted for our next anthologies…
Halloween/Fall stories (Title to be announced): The deadline for submissions is Aug. 20th.
Christmas/New Years stories (Title to be announced): The deadline for submissions is Oct. 20th.
The short stories may be any genre as long as there is a romance. The romance doesn't have to be the main focus. The stories may have a western, fantasy, history, time travel or even adventure theme to them. They can be eerie tales and capers, too.
What are we looking for?
A themed romance that fits one of the anthologies listed above.
The romance must be male/female, sweet to sensual romance. Please, no erotica or anything explicit in nature.
Word count between 5000-20,000 words.
When do we need the stories? Now until the deadline listed above for the anthology you wish to participate in. The sooner you can email your submission the better.

Chapter 5. This is in Sloane's POV.
Quick update from last week: Derek has tackled Sloane to the ground in her backyard, trying to keep her from escaping. He claims vampires are real, but she believes he's nuts. She hasn't quite grasped he might be telling the truth, and for good reasons. He told her he thinks she might turn into one of those fiends. Not a great reason to trust him when he's a hunter who stakes and dusts such creatures. Then to make matters worse, Derek's brothers show and they are calling to him. Derek clasps a hand over Sloane's mouth to silence her. If the brothers find them, Sloane is a good as dead.

At this close range, his rugged face half lit by moonlight proved almost too beautiful to be on a face of a madman. She pursed her lips realizing how stupid her reasoning sounded because let's face it, if potential killers had crazy tattooed on their forehead, they wouldn't have any murderers and rapist roaming the streets. The police could just arrest them on sight. Then she realized what the man standing at her backdoor had said and her eyes narrowed. The madman was named Derek. Her gaze riveted to him, taking in every feature with knowing dread. The truth hit her hard and her breath solidified in her chest. Older and more muscular…but it was Derek Hayes. He'd been the bad boy, the one not afraid to do as he pleased, but he'd also been kind, and he stood up to bullies, protected the underdog.
Lad growled, but not at Derek who held her captive, but at the newcomer.

Quick update from last week: Sloane just clobbered Derek in the head with a coffee cup. In her defense, he told her vampires are real, threatened to stake her, then claimed he wants to save her. What would you do?
We're skipping ahead a few paragraphs in Chapter 5. Derek has gone after Sloane and she's trying to open the gate and escape...

She threw the lock on the ground. Her hand held the handle, but before she could unlatch it, she was tackled to the ground.
She struggled and managed to knee her captor. She was rewarded with a grunt, but the guy's arms were made of iron and his grip didn't falter.
"Let me go," she demanded.
"Derek?" another man's voice called from the direction of the house.
Her movements stilled for a moment then she frantically struggled again. If there were two of them, her chances of escape were becoming slimmer.
"Stop it," Derek hissed in her ear as he clamped a hand over her mouth.
He knew this man who called to him, but for some reason he didn't want to reveal his location.

This week's snippet is another snippet from Flowers and Fangs- Nominated for best New Adult book RONE Award.
Chapter 4. This is in Derek's POV.
Quick update from last week: Derek knows he should stake and dust Sloane, but he allows the feelings he had for her in the past to play part in his decision to save her. Only Sloane hasn't connected that the hunter, standing in her kitchen and claiming vampires are real, is the boy she dated in high school ten years ago. Derek told her if she wanted to live, she'd have to go with him now. This is Sloane's response...

Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. It is a day of remembrance for those who have died in service of the United States of America.
On the first Decoration Day, General James Garfield made a speech at Arlington National Cemetery. There were over five thousand participants who decorated the graves of 20,000 Union and Confederate soldiers buried there.
In 1873, New York was the first state to officially recognize the holiday, but by 1890 all the northern states honored this day. The South, however, refused and chose another day to honor their dead, and this continued until after World War I when the holiday changed from honoring just those who died in the Civil War to honoring all who served and gave their lives for our country.
