Cecilia Gunner tried her phone again. Her relationship with her mother had never been warm and cozy. Her rock star mother preferred the limelight and didn't have time for her only child, but it didn't mean Cecilia didn't care about the woman. Besides, hugs and kisses from mama were never expected and she survived just fine.
At twenty-six, single and loving it, she'd graduated from college with honors, had her Esthetician license. She opened her makeup artistry studio, Radiant, last year. She had her Airbrush Tanning and Makeup Artist through Dinair in Hollywood and her clientele included hundreds of brides, celebrities, news anchors, socialites, and models.
The backstage of the music business is all she wanted to see, and for the most part, she managed to stay away from the rock 'n' roll scene that had devoured any sanity from both of her parents. Partying all night where booze and drugs were the hosts, had never been something she craved. When the clock struck twelve the magic didn't leave behind hope in the form of a glass slipper; instead, it left broken dreams and sometimes death.

About this snippet: We're skipping ahead a few paragraphs.
Recap of last week's snippet: Bellamy didn't like that his bandmates hired Evie to babysit him. His ploy to make her quit backfired on him when she saw right through his charade. She told him she needed the job and he needed someone to keep him on time. It was a win-win for both of them. She's now waiting for his answer.
Now for the snippet. There are some tweaks in punctuation.

"Deal," Bellamy finally voiced, "I wouldn't want you to starve on my account." He headed for the door but turned back with his hand on the doorknob. "You certainly are a surprise, Miss Book Marm."
Miss Book Marm? Not exactly a compliment, but truly did she expect him to see her as a sexy attractive woman? Even though she knew it, he confirmed she wasn't his type. "Well, so are you," she threw back and he chuckled, and this time his smile was warm and genuine.
"I'll make sure Leon gives you the itinerary."
She didn't take a full breath until he had closed the door behind him. She was in.

Set up for this snippet: Bellamy shows up at Evie's room with a purpose. Evie figures out his ploy that he's trying to make her feel uncomfortable enough to want to quit, but she calls him on it. She tells him she's not leaving. She was hired to do a job and she is going to do it.
Now for the snippet. There are some tweaks in punctuation.

He placed the book down and those ever-expressive eyes burned with what she supposed was anger. "I don't need a babysitter, despite what Leon told you."
Ah, so now we have it; his pride had been sorely nicked. "Good, because I don't want to be one. Listen, maybe we can work together here. I need this job." He didn't have to know it was because she needed to stay close to him and hopefully say something or do something that would influence him to want to live. "I have bills to pay," she added, "and you have a grueling schedule where you need to be on time, so allow me to assist you in doing that and we'll all go home happy at the end of the day."
He drummed his hand on the top book, which happened to be book one in the Harry Potter series. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, the UK edition given to her by her brother. Who knew how widely popular the series would eventually become, and in 2007, she was anxiously waiting for the final book in the series to be released.

Set up for this snippet: Bellamy shows up at Evie's room and invites himself in. His impromptu arrival has her curious. He inspects her things–her open suitcase for starters– and adds his opinions along with some clipped random questions. She knows there is a point to this visit. She just has to keep her cool and figure it out.
Now for the snippet. There are some tweaks in punctuation.

Looking over her reading material was far worse than him fondling her undergarments and her face heated. He placed his sunglasses on the top of his head. "You have quite the selection here," he said and turned to look at her and this time, his gaze had changed, not hostile, but curious. "You're a Buddhist?" he asked and picked up the book, Yoga: Meditation for the Mind, Body, and Soul.
"No," she said, "when I'm stressed, I like to meditate and some of the yoga poses help me to relax."
"Hmm...maybe you are my type after all. I'd like to see you do some of those yoga poses...naked, preferably." The lustful gleam in his eyes made her blush, but she refused to fall victim to this game he was obviously playing. Then she realized his motive; he was purposely trying to make her feel uncomfortable.
"It won't work," she said and he arched a brow at her.

Set up for this snippet: Evie tackled Bellamy to the ground in an attempt to save from jumping from the rooftop of the hotel–or so she believed. Bellamy was not pleased and after a few words, stormed back inside the hotel, leaving Evie and Leon behind.

"Well, that went splendidly," she muttered. "Why was he up here anyway?"
"Sorry, should have warned you; it's his thing. When we're about to begin a tour, he heads for the roof of the first hotel we stay at, to meditate and put him in the right mindset, or so he says." His shoulders lifted in a shrug as he added, "For good luck, I guess."
"And I just messed that up."
"Don't worry, I have hope he'll warm up to you. You did speak Romanian to him, right? Usually, he's thrilled when someone knows the language."
Maybe, she thought, but not if he believed she was crazy.
