The Empath’s Journey is Now Available at East West Bookshop!

The Empath's Journey, East West Bookshop, Mountain View

I am so excited to share that The Empath’s Journey is now available at East West Bookshop in Mountain View, California! East West Bookshop is one of my favorite places here in the Bay Area, so I am so grateful for this. East West Bookshop is also an independent bookstore, and we definitely need more of those!

I have a favor to ask if you enjoy my writing and live here in the Bay Area.

Limited copies of books are kept in the store, and the bookstore orders more copies depending on demand....

What the Process of Birthing a Book Feels Like.

INFP Writers and Writer's Block, Creating a Book

In The Empath’s Journey, I talk about a series of related dreams I had while I was right in the middle of birthing the book. I thought I would share these dreams with you to talk about why I love dreams so much and also give you a behind-the-scenes look at how messy and vulnerable birthing a book can feel like.

So, the dreams went like this.

In one of them, a heavily pregnant woman who was almost about to give birth was pedaling a bicycle uphill. She was trying desperately to get to the...

INFP Writers, Throw your Hat Over the Fence!

INFP Writer. Throw your Hat over the Fence.

If you are an INFP writer or creative, you probably have lots of ideas. That’s the INFP extroverted intuition at work, creating reams and reams of possibilities. On the one hand, this is wonderful! You have access to a form of creativity that doesn’t come easily to many people.

On the other hand, there’s definitely a downside to extroverted intuition as well. It keeps opening up new diverging paths and can leave us paralyzed as INFP writers and creatives.

As an INFP writer, it’s easy to...

Magpie Finds: Things I Have Been Dipping Into.

Things I have been dipping into as a highly sensitive creative and INFP writer.

As a writer and an INFP, I love dipping into new things. I am usually reading multiple books at a time. I love finding new tidbits and tasty morsels. Some of them go into the compost heap of my mind and help new ideas sprout. Some of them are just fun and ways to fill myself up.

So, I thought I would do a post talking about some of the things I have been dipping into in the last few months.

I have watched a bunch of shows and movies on Netflix. I just saw the movie Dolomite is my Name,...

Do you feel “not good enough” as a highly sensitive creative?

Highly sensitive creatives and Imposter Syndrome

I attended the online video Q&A session today that marked the end of The INF Summit with several of the other speakers and many INFPs and INFJs who joined in from around the world.

Both INFP and INFJ personality types are highly creative people, and one of the questions that came up today was something that sensitive creatives deal with a lot. How do you deal with feeling like an imposter?

When you are creating something and offering it to the world, you are not sure how it’ll be...

Is there really such a thing as an ambivert & other tidbits!

Is there really such a thing as an ambivert? From the INFP and INFJ Summit.

I have been watching the INF Summit interviews and thinking about some of the ideas and people that especially spoke to me. I really LOVED Mark Pierce’s interview, for example.

I connected with Mark last year after his book The Creative Wound almost jumped out at me on my Twitter feed. I have interviewed Mark for this blog, and you can check out the interview here. We talked about some really cool stuff, such as the difference between INFP and INFJ intuition. So, it was cool to put a face...

The Aftershocks of Trauma on Highly Sensitive People.

This time, I want to talk a little about something that I haven’t talked about a lot in the past — how trauma and traumatic events affect highly sensitive people. Recently, as I have started speaking at in-person events, this topic has come up again and again. Recently, after my conversation on The INF Summit went live, someone else also mentioned it.

So, in my conversation with Jas and Lauren, I talked about how people with a history of trauma have a hard time with doctors’ appointments....
