Growing Up as a Sensitive Kid.

I was doing some spring cleaning and came across a photo album that I brought from India (where I grew up) to my home here in the United States. And this was one of the photos in it.

I am the kid in the bottom-row, sitting down, with her hand on her head.

I think it was on “fancy dress day” at school (We wore a uniform on normal days). Some of the other kids are more dressed-up for some reason I don’t quite remember.

Or a reason I didn’t even know then. I was usually in m...

Watching “Game of Thrones” as a Sensitive Person.

Watching Game of Thrones as a Sensitive Person

I’ve been reading the book Sensitive is the New Strong, which is our latest book club selection for The Highly Sensitive Creative book club. And a bunch of things have been jumping out at me.

There are so many relatable things in it, so many things I’ve either thought or felt myself. AND at the same time, I’ve also had my own slightly-different reactions to some of the things the author talks about.

One of the things the author mentions is not being able to watch Game of Thro...

“It is not always a refusal to grow that keeps us stuck.”

Feeling stuck? It might be grief

I came across this passage by Heidi Priebe recently that felt really useful to me. I thought I would share it in case it connects with you too:

“It is not always a refusal to grow that keeps us stuck, but a refusal to grieve.

Unprocessed pain about the past becomes unwarranted anxiety about the future.

Until we understand why things happened the way they did, until we find a way to look back with acceptance, the present remains frozen in a state of resistance. We become i...

“To have high standards is often linked to low self-esteem.”

We have been reading Ilse Sand’s book Highly Sensitive People in an Insensitive World in The Highly Sensitive Creative Book Club. As it often does, some ideas from the book jumped out at me.

We have been reading Ilse Sand’s book Highly Sensitive People in an Insensitive World in The Highly Sensitive Creative Book Club. As it often does, some ideas from the book jumped out at me.

One was when Ilse Sand talked about how highly sensitive people often lack faith in our own worth:

“To have high standards is often linked to low self-esteem. High standards may have occurred as a way to compensate for this low self-esteem. The more you think you are not worth loving, th...

“Home is the place where your gifts are received.”

“Home is the place where your gifts are received.”

For the last few years, again and again, I have had this thought pop up in my mind, “I want to go home.” It took me a while to realize that this longing for home was symbolic of a feeling of home and not a need to physically move somewhere new.

It’s funny that it took me so long to figure this out even though I connect with symbolic material regularly through connecting with my dreams.

As I’ve unpacked the different meanings of what “home” feels like to me, I rediscovered th...
