“The dream is a little hidden door in the innermost and most secret recesses of the soul, opening into that cosmic night which was psyche long before there was any ego-consciousness.” Carl Jung.
I will be back at the wonderful East West Bookshop on February 17 via an online Zoom event called Dreamwork: What Our Intuition is Working Hard to Tell us at Night, based on my book The Empath’s Journey (Sign up HERE).

50 Things that Made my Year (2021)
1. My husband and I got vaccinated. As an HSP who thinks & then thinks some more, I wrote about the decision-making process in Feeling conflicted about getting the vaccine? Here’s How I Decided.
2. The book You are What You Risk was tremendously helpful in helping me decide to get vaccinated. It talked about how, in human languages, there was a time when there was no word for risk because risk was the equivalent of LIFE.
3. It was delightful to see author Amanda Linehan’s 365-day Visua...

Giving away books, simplifying and feeling less flooded as an HSP.
Maybe, this has to do with the stage of the pandemic we’re in. But lately, I have been getting very overwhelmed with visual input. Even as a sensitive person who processes everything deeply, I have never quite felt like this. So, as an antidote to this feeling of being flooded, I have been decluttering and giving away things.
While the rest of my home is pretty organized, the one area that gets consistently out of order is my books. So, I have been doing the tough task of simplifying...

Dreamwork: How Dreams Connect Sensitives to Our Intuition.
Do you have intense dreams? Do you wonder if your dreams mean anything? Do you sometimes dream disturbing dreams? It may be a dream in which you’re having an extra-marital affair, or it may be a dream of dying.
Even though you’re curious about your dreamworld, it also feels confusing, and sometimes, downright threatening. Are you supposed to think of dreams as signs? Are they trying to tell you something? Or is listening to dreams just superstitious nonsense?
Like you, I have alwa...

An Online Gathering for Sensitive Souls: Empaths, Sensitives & Intuitives Summit.
As sensitive people, many of us grow up feeling like an outsider. We may have been called “too sensitive” for feeling deep feelings. We may have been misunderstood & told to grow a thicker skin.
We might have even wished ourselves that we had this thick skin. Maybe then, things like crowds & aggressive people would not leave us drained & feeling like all we wanted to do was crawl under a blanket & hide from the world.
Some of us may even have been bullied and felt weaker or “less tha...

A Guide for Thoughtful Gift-Giving.
I love finding little treasures — something delightful, something new. And so, I enjoy reading holiday gift guides. But it’s also true that after going through many pages of tech-bedazzled gadgets or lists of “gifts for cooks,” I hardly ever come up with anything that feels like something I want to buy.
And when I look back on memorable gifts that I’ve received or given, it’s hardly ever something from a list like this.
One of my favorite gifts as a child was when an uncle gave me a ...

Online Event, Hosted By East West Bookshop!
I will be back at the wonderful East West Bookshop on Friday, October 15 in an ONLINE Zoom event on Energetic Boundaries for Sensitives. In our culture, we often talk about the importance of saying no & setting psychological boundaries. But we don’t often talk about how actually saying that no can feel REALLY hard, especially if we tend to absorb other people’s feelings.
Even if we intellectually understand the need for boundaries, when we try setting them, we might feel confused. We mig...

“Try to just be open to the wonderful imperfections of your own experience.”
I was listening to a podcast interview with Jungian analyst (therapist) Lisa Marchiano and this line she said leapt out at me. “Try to just be open to the wonderful imperfections of your own experience.” She said it in a specific context, but I think it applies to EVERYTHING.
For me personally, the pandemic has reanimated a hyper-perfectionistic voice in my head that I struggled with for years. Maybe, it has to do with trying to carefully follow “rules” to keep safe during this time....

“People want to feel happiness at all times, but this is a very unhealthy idea.”
This was in a tweet from Karla McLaren, author of the book The Language of Emotions and I thought this idea needs to be repeated, even to myself. When we have a thread of high positivity in our psychological makeup, sometimes, when things go flat, it can feel all wrong. But the thing is, we are not supposed to feel happy ALL THE TIME. Happiness is just one of the many feelings that comes and goes. It’s a feeling that also needs to be cultivated.
Here’s what the lovely Karla McLare...
