The Week That Flew (The Sunday Post)

the sunday postThe Latest in my Life

I’m not really sure where this week went to. I was in school for two days and working from home for three, trying to cram in all my daughter’s school work. I’m really looking forward to switching off over half term now.

It’s very blustery weather here as Storm Darcy makes her way across the UK, so we are staying in and keeping warm this weekend.

Making Blogging Buddies (#IWSG Feb 2021)

I didn’t realise the first Wednesday of the month had already passed until I checked the calendar this morning, so I’m three days late with this post. I hope you’ll forgive me!

what day is it memeWriting Update

Honestly, I’ve done barely any writing since Christmas. I desperately need to get back into a structured routine, but between working from home and home-schooling my daughter, I’m finding it hard to muster the energy and motivation. My WiP is never far from my mind, though. Hopefully I can...

Stacking the Shelves (17) Historical Fantasy eBooks

stacking the shelves

Today I’m sharing the books I bought, acquired or borrowed this week for Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

Printed Purchases

None this week! I have quite a backlog to get through from Christmas so probably won’t be buying any physical books for a while.

Kindle Freebies

I downloaded Wings of Fury by Emily R. King for free from Amazon First Reads. It’s a mythological fantasy about the Greek god Cronos and his son.

I also picked up In the Empty ...

Recharging and Refreshing (The Sunday Post)

the sunday postThe Latest in my Life

I’ve felt quite tired and drained for most of this week and have been suffering from bad toothache which has made me crankier than usual. So, I spent most of yesterday relaxing on the sofa with my daughter and our kitten, which is just what I needed.

My husband treated us to a takeaway from our favourite chippy last night and then I enjoyed doing the Jay’s Virtual Pub Quiz with my sister and brother-in-law (we’ve played most weeks since the beginning of the firs...

Stacking the Shelves (16) Jan 2021 Fantasy Haul

stacking the shelves

Today I’m sharing the books I bought in January for Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

Stack of books including The Colour of Magic, Teh Starless Sea, The Invisible Life of Adie LaRue, Fresh Ink and The Midnight LibraryPrinted Purchases

This week’s haul is mostly fantasy fiction that I bought using some gift cards I had for my birthday and Christmas. One of the gift cards was a National Book Token, and I wasn’t able to spend it on any of my usual book websites, so I ended up ordering from Blackwell’s. I was really impressed with the service and the books all came with beautiful book...

A Cozy Winter Weekend (The Sunday Post)

the sunday postThe Latest in my Life

Typically for the UK, we had beautiful sunshine on Friday and it was snowing and hailing the very next day. It’s been the same today but unfortunately it didn’t settle. I’m hoping it might snow overnight so I can play in it with my daughter and build a snowman.

I’m still working from home and home schooling my daughter 4 days a week. We’re getting into a better routine now, though it’s still not easy. I really enjoy switching off from it all at the weekend.

Today I’m sharing the books I received for Christmas for Stacking the Shelves, a weekly meme hosted by Tynga’s Reviews.

I had a quiet Christmas last year, but it was still a good one. I got some books that had been on my wish list for quite a while.

The three books above were all from my husband, and were the inspiration for three of my favourite Studio Ghibli animations. Ronja the Robber’s Daughter by Astri...

New Year, New Blog Layout (The Sunday Post)

the sunday postThe Latest in my Life

Schools in the UK are currently closed so I’ve mostly been working from home for the last couple of weeks. It’s challenging trying to juggle online lessons with my daughter’s school work, but it’s also nice to be able to get involved with her learning.

It’s also been fun to spend more time with our new kitten, Loki. He has settled in well and our older cat, Mr. Mistoffelees, is now even sleeping next to him on the sofa. It’s a big relief that they’re getting alon...

2021 Writing Goals and Why I DNF Books (#IWSG Jan 2021)

Happy New Year! I hope you had a good holiday period even if it wasn’t the same as usual. We had a quiet Christmas and didn’t see our family in person, but we were grateful for the opportunity to video call them. We also celebrated my daughter’s 5th birthday and spent a lot of time relaxing and watching Christmas films.

The best thing that happened during the Christmas period was that we adopted a new kitten named Loki. He certainly lives up to his namesake, the god of mischief!

Th...

New book release! (#IWSG Dec 2020)

Well, we’ve made it to December! Life is hectic for me right now, both directly and indirectly due to Covid-19. But despite the challenges, I’m very grateful to have my health, a job I enjoy and the support of my friends, family and colleagues. Stress and uncertainty are everywhere right now, but so are hope, love and kindness.

In case I don’t get a chance to blog again before Christmas, I wish you all a happy, safe and peaceful festive period.
