Why I Write Speculative Fiction (#IWSG Nov 2020)
Last month passed in a blur of work, illness and exhaustion. I didn’t have much time to write and unfortunately missed October’s posting. I’m currently on a short break from work and am feeling much better. My daughter and I have been enjoying lots of fun Halloween activities and watching Disney films.
Writing News
I’m working on a couple of short stories for anthology calls that end late November and early December. I don’t think I’ll have time to look at my novel again until 2021.

Back to Work (The Sunday Post)

The Latest in my Life
I returned to work full time this week after almost six months at home. The summer holidays were pretty good despite the Covid situation. We got to spend some quality time together as a family without having to run our online classes. We went on a few carefully planned trips to local attractions such as quiet beaches, castles and animal parks, which was so good for all of us. It was wonderful to finally meet up with a few family members that we hadn’t seen since Mar...

Dewey’s 24 Hour Reverse #Readathon (Aug 2020)
This weekend I’m taking part in Dewey’s 24 Hour Reverse Readathon. Like the original readathon, the idea is to read as much as you can for 24 hours and any reading material counts (including eBooks, audiobooks, manga and reading to your children). The summer readathon is more relaxed than the original, with fewer hourly posts and no prizes.
It runs 12 hours earlier than the regular readathon- from Friday 7th 8 pm EST to Saturday 8th 8 pm EST. I’m in the UK, so if I’ve worked it out correctly ...

Getting Active (The Sunday Post)
Ive been getting active this week as Ive finally run out of excuses not to exercise. My main goals are to feel more energetic, increase my stamina and improve my overall health and fitness. Id like to get back within a healthy weight range again, but Im not focusing too much on the numbers on the scale. How I feel in my own skin is more important to me.
Ive been using the Wii Fit and EA Active II games as I enjoy the step aerobics routines on there and can easily track...

75th VE Day Celebrations (The Sunday Post)
This week, I spent a lot of time with my daughter making preparations for the 75th VE Day. We didnt have any union flags so we made some red, white and blue bunting for our garden fence from some old plastic bags. I also printed some colouring pages for my daughter to complete and stuck them up in the kitchen.
I was very proud to be part of the school choir singing Well Meet Again for our tribute video to the heroes of WWII. I think its great that we managed to produce...
