Controversy over corona tracing: the Swiss epidemiologist Salathé announces the exit from the pan-European project
A team of researchers from ETH Lausanne and ETH Zurich, who was involved in the pan-European project for a tracing app, is irritated. Its approach, which it regards as more secure under data protection law, appears to be questioned.

It is based on the 2004 Philip Roth novel of the same title and tells an alternative history in which FDR is defeated in 1940 by the fascist-sympathizing Charles Lindbergh through the eyes of a Jewish family living in Newark, NJ. Compelling story, well acted. It is the best piece of television I have seen in years.

June 11: Reed Legal Network Virtual Meet and Greet
https://events.reed.edu/event/reed_legal_network_virtual_meet_and_greet
Dear Avy and David, and Reed Legal Network,
Thanks so much for your excellent Reed Legal Network talks just now.
With your FinTech experience, Avy, and your US government and courts' experience, David, let's stay in touch about UBI experiment questions, & regarding the word 'universal' & regarding too the Euro in 19 out of 28 nation states; am thinking in terms of ~200 countriesâ official languages too as Law Schools https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School (accessible from https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Nation_States, each to become major online universities) to facilitate and teach about UBI experiments in the public interest even.
Wikdata, by the way, is Wikipedia's 'back end' structured knowledge database, and in ~300 languages, a great start for coding for speakers of all 7,117 known living languages at WUaS - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - and regarding online law schools in all ~200 countries' official / main languages.
Thanks, Amy, Darlene, Andrew, and everyone so much!
Reed regards, Scott

PSI've blogged much about UBI experiments here in recent years - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/search/label/UBI - and regarding matriculating students at World Univ & Sch from all ~200 countries, each a Wikidata Q-item # or preferably, a Wikidata PIN #, - and then speakers of all 7,117 known living languages, a Wikidata PIN #, and then, brainstorming-wise, all 7.5 billion people on the planet a Wikidata PIN #. (World Univ & Sch, of which I'm the founder and head, donated itself to Wikidata as "back end" for co-development, in 2015, and got the "front end" WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University - but they aren't yet interoperable). UBI experiments would partly be for distributing a single cryptocurrency, with block chain ledger, backed by some number of their central banks, to people in all ~200 countries, in order to alleviate poverty. All this could involve, too, bringing the Federal Reserve together with the European Central Bank with the MIT Digital Currency Initiative, of which the Executive Director is Neha Narula, and with lawyers and congresspeople in the US government (hence my email to you). (Here are 5 initial reasons that WUaS seeks to code for all 7.5 billion people, each a Wikidata PIN # - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2019/12/wild-pomegranate-burchellia-bubalina.html).
PPSAlso, World Univ & Sch would seek for the WUaS Law Faculties in all ~200 countries' official languages to teach about single cryptocurrency, for example, and perhaps faculty and students could also help code for it, in a variety of ways:
Law Schools at World University and School (planned in main languages in them)Afghanistan Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Afghanistan_Law_School_at_WUaSBrazil Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Brazil_Law_School_at_WUaSChina Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/China_Law_School_at_WUaSEgypt Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Egypt_Law_School_at_WUaSIndia Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/India_Law_School_at_WUaSJamaica Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Jamaica_Law_School_at_WUaSMexico Law School at WUaS: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Mexico_Law_School_at_WUaSWorld University Law School: https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_SchoolPPPSA WUaS Law School in Oregon too?
How might we explore this further?
Thanks again so much, David and Avy, and the Reed Legal Network.

How can I help / Why would you like to meet?: Talk about edX & World Univ & Sch, & today's Open edX questions
Scott GK MacLeod and Marco Morales
Hi Marco,
Thanks for letting me know. And yes re-scheduling for next week would be great. I'm still unclear about whether I would invite you (with Google Meet, for ex. which WUaS is in) or you invite me to video-conference with Google Hangouts (per your calendar).
Regarding, Meeting Goal - How can I help / Why would you like to meet?: Talk about edX & World Univ & Sch, & today's Open edX questions
Could we also please talk about the 6 WUaS majors WUaS seeks to offer, potentially via some edX courses (i.e. these 6 majors: 1) EECS, 2) General Engineering, 3) General Science, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business - see: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/) to our matriculating WUaS undergraduates, about which I've communicated some with edX's CEO Anant Agarwal. (It would also be great to touch on a realistic virtual earth - https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarth?src=hashtag_click - per your background image in the OpenEdX meeting yesterday, and regarding Ned Batchelder's observation that edX often integrates - and regarding too, conceptually, Google Street View with time slider, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate, and even with realistic avatar bots - for STEM field sites, and for classrooms. And could we possibly please touch on also WUaS in the Spanish language via edX?).
Would 30 minutes be better to talk about all of the above, Marco (than 15 minutes)? And 12;45 pm ET / 9:45 am PT, Friday, June 19th? Shall I invite you from Google Meet to video, or will you invite me?
Looking forward to communicating further about this in the meantime via email as well. Thank you, Marco!
Regards, Scott

Hi Ma,
Good in some ways to connect with people at Reed and Shady Side. These cultures come through time. Am appreciative of George A's kids all going to diff Sch's than he & B went to, and to public schools for high school, & Henry Cutter going through SSA's 3 schools. All are high achievers.
Really good piping lesson again with Taylor, yesterday evening! Was out walking later after heading down thru beautiful valley on level road on other side of the massif - also after Shady Side Academy and Reed College Legal Network video meetings online today ... life partner meeting possibilities in both (but didn't meet her yesterday) & it could help if she lives in Bay Area! ... will know it when I meet her as you observe ... how was your day ?
I have a new hummingbird friend on the far side of the massif, or one was feeding on orange flowers, aware of me, showing its red chest a bit, then sitting on a branch a minute later aware of me, as I then walked by ... I got the sense it was connecting and social even as it fed ... so I'm calling it a friend, :)... What is hummingbird consciousness (and regarding cattle or cow consciousness, philosophically in a sense? :)
Desiderata ahead - https://www.desiderata.com/desiderata.html - as a kind of philosophy or guiding code even in this somewhat complex internet world, with my big interesting projects, (education/universities/schools, actual-virtual Harbin/earth/universe, bagpiping, book writing ... Where is my beautiful, receptive friend who might become my life partner, and wife even, and for family, I'm continuing seeking, - a beautiful, radiant A or a S (of shared culture too) of today in Canyon to begin?
What are you up to this weekend? And how are you?
Sending love, Scott

As a followup to my email a few minutes ago (below), I'd just like to add that World Univ & Sch will likely offer online edX courses (emerging from best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare - OCW) this autumn toward free-to-students' online 4-year Bachelor's degrees (as WUaS proceeds with licensing and accreditation, first in California).
Also, as a wiki, WUaS also facilitates open teaching and learning, and so, with time, faculty (and students!) in the SSA Country Day School and the Junior School will be able to both share and learn about excellent free online resources, here, for example - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Educational_Software (or from other relevant subjects here - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects).
In addition, and regarding WUaS planned 'Home Robotics,' I'm very glad to announce that the WUaS Educational Services' Store just became a carrier of Lego Robotics - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html.
(Am an active daily blogger, and here's a recent blog post about Pittsburgh, Shady Side Academy, and much more, too - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/squaw-run-wuas-livestream-may-18-2020.html ! )
Congratulations to you all with your successes in online education in this coronavirus pandemic time! And thanks again for sharing your great faculty panel conversation!

Thanks so much for your great faculty panel discussion, and very nice to e-meet you. I'm appreciating the great online SSA community I saw here in many ways. The questions as well as information I shared are below.
All the best, Scott
Scott GK MacLeod â79 - If SSA is mostly online in 2020-2021 (due to Covid-19), how do you think youâll help students navigate the college application process (if theyâll be online in upcoming years even)? Thank you so much for this great SSA panel conversation. Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)
Iâd just like to let you know about a college and university - World Univ & Sch - Iâm developing based on the best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare (in 4 languages) which will offer free-to-studentsâ online degrees. (Seeking our 2nd undergrad matriculating class this autumn).

Connecting ~
Good morning, Ma,
Nice to talk and connect, Ma, yesterday evening on wooded way.
Playing - bagpiping - first thing rather than last thing in day? Just after sitting. Time to explore this. Computing is very fascinating ... but playing creatively, and to connect - toward upcoming 'Honey in the Bag' Scottish small pipes' album has much merit too.
Here are the Lego Robotics' kits, which my big educational project in its somewhat newly named 'WUaS Educational Services' Store' & academic press (in 7117 languages) is newly carrying -
http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - and which is momentous! Lego rep in Lousville KY Leanna Prater helped, as well as nice Alexandra in Chicago. Am wondering if there could possibly be a UU connection. Do you know any Praters from Cincinnati, Ohio, or Kentucky & UUs? :) There was a kind of good connecting process re this Lego development yesterday too.
Put 3 carrots in my pocket, but didn't see the 5 horses in EBMUD, which came up to me recently, whatsoever while walking on a very beautiful evening. So in seeing a little rabbit head into the bush later, I tossed some carrot pieces in its path - as a possible treat.
Riverfront park - for virtual kayaking? - in Google Street View's for upper body movement from home, while on the Allegheny River. Put on a digital mask at home - re "Were you visiting in this Aspinwall Riverfront Park - https://www.google.com/maps/place/Aspinwall+Riverfront+Park,+285+River+Ave,+Aspinwall,+PA+15215/@40.4891881,-79.9042272,15z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x0:0x3153eebade943564!8m2!3d40.4891881!4d-79.9042272 ? Were people kayaking too? " ... how to make Google Street View excursions in digital masks great (and for movement from home too?). Appreciating your 'exploring' Pittsburgh anew with Chris while heading out shopping too!
Interesting to think about practicing a musical instrument further re questions of connecting - and not being too hard on myself (per "Guidelines for ..." http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm). Last night I stayed up newly until 11:30 considering whether to practice - and am seeking to understand and think this further through - when I have often played daily (the word 'sail' popped up) & enjoyably albeit briefly recently around 10:45 pm, but last night ambivalence won out ... hmmm :) Will explore piping first thing after sitting or meditating this morning (which I do daily first thing - because it's salutary).
So I started piping first thing after sitting, and - like the 'morning Raga' idea - it's good to play early, and without diurnal rhythm tiredness setting in too. Fingering is crisper ... time to wash my hands. Play until about 11:30 - before it gets hot? On with playing! :)
Appreciating you, Ma, much and from whom I learned to connect .

Am wondering further how coronavirus pandemic 'memes' could be used to significantly lessen the illegal sex trade - culturally even (which it may have done too) and in white, brown and black communities too!
Combine with contact tracing - (which has already been happening for my smartphone anyway per a monthly report I get, - but people around the world all need more advanced smart phones too!) - per the German article I mentioned ...

How's your day going? Am following up re this earlier 'Connecting' email and thread ...
As I listen thru and watch my video lessons with Connor Sinclair (with so many wins of top piping competitions) ... and he connected .. and so did I, I like seeing his confidence, his responses (and our connection) ... am learning much again and again ... and about connecting in a learning conversation with spoken language as well as connecting in learning a piping language ... and confidence re my playing too ... the feeling (sometimes bumpy, but sometimes good from daily playing) as I improve .. and the feeling of being little shy, or even embarrassed at times as I seek to improve (which feeling I feel far less these days than I recall feeling even in elementary school years, for example).
Interesting to experience re-connecting with Connor in lesson recordings, where we connected in real time (he in Scotland - and regarding even identity questions - being pipers, Scottish identity too perhaps) in the actual lessons (ie which were recorded).
One aspect of playing a musical instrument for me is that I have a constant self-critique aspect in there ...
Our lessons are kind of a piping-learning 'blather.'
Connor's a good, responsive and skillful teacher ... am learning a lot from videos to work with ... a lot of 'building blocks' from Connor ... Stuart Liddell's piping is my inspiration for inspired piping ...
https://youtu.be/pQEJf5XZPL8 ...
Focused on piping this morning for nearly 2 hours, playing some, but tuning in further to my 19 Feb 2020 lesson with Connor helpfully.
Love, Scott
Scottish small pipe and GHB keys all in the A chanter (about 5-6 keys in 9 notes?)
Notes from 19 Feb 2020 lesson video recording with Connor Sinclair
Was very glad to learn the following from 19 Feb 2020 lesson re even thinking about the new E drone, and which tunes could work with it better than others:
Keys in tunes?
44:45
45:30
a bit of uniqueness in (SSP) drone sounds â (potentially with E drone sounding different)
46:45
A major
46:55
B minor
47:10
C sharp, or F sharp minor
(then going into A)
48:10
you could play an A over F sharp minor
((what about an E drone too? â to ask Connor))
49:15
key of D notes, Connor plays (on an âAâ GHB practice chanter, which is really in B flat mixolydian, or so called âPiperâs Aâ)
At a push youâve got
The key of G â and he plays notes on his practice chanter in this keytoward > https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/western-honey-bee-re-my-upcoming-honey.html
* Back to this ideas from Guidelines for - http://scottmacleod.com/GuidelinesPracticingMusicalInstrument.htm
2 Write out a schedule, a plan with goals. (Choose pieces you enjoy playing â S.M.).
Yo-yo Ma says, never make a sound without hearing it first; hear it in your mind.
3 Set goals to chart development.
4 Concentrate when you practice.
Yo-yo says join feelings into your music when you feel bad, to integrate your feelings with your mind and body.
5 Relax and practice slowly.
* Sinclair chanters were preferred by top pipe bands for a while, some decades ago I think - "Sinclair is known for their famous chanter, which has been a favorite among top competing pipers and bands for since the 1960's."https://www.thebagpipemuseum.com/Sinclair_William.html
Sinclair pipes may still be being made by a Sinclair son http://www.sinclair-bagpipes.co.uk
(Such 'William Sinclair & Son (Bagpipe Makers)' father and son traditions are long and old in some countries, such as Scotland)
I'll have to ask Connor Sinclair whether there's any relation to him.

Ma,
How's your day going? And how are you? Am glad Chris is now able to visit you in person, newly (with masks and 6 feet distance?).
Came into Berkeley for shopping on a hot day:
49.2 mpg, about 12 miles and .60 cents in fuel costs my car said ... seems great, and drove a long way along magnificent Skyline Dr.
I hope your weather is cooling down from yesterday ... Berkeley is cooler than on the ridge in Canyon!
Missing actual Harbin a bit, seeking to create an amazing virtual HARBIN ... but seeking a life partner in the process, potentially before too ...
Leanna Prater, Lego Solutions' Architect, based in Louisville, KY, seemed possibly 'churchy' in her online presentation which led to WUaS Educational Services' Store offering Lego robotics ... she could be Methodist too (and re Kim & Larry), but Louisville has 3 ... Unitarian churches. Any Praters in your growing up regarding UUs in Cincinnati? (Name sounds possibly out of UU circles).
Seeking to further develop mastery learning with piping.
And in a BF Skinner (Skinnerian) sense (schedules of reinforcement re animal behavior), in what ways could Cuttyhunk island (which idea emerged in seeing this Tweet by William Mansfield - https://twitter.com/PatentMansfield/status/1270800166732402688?s=20 - who's a patent attorney in the Boston area, and seems like he might have UU connections as well) be a kind of reward for a potential life partner of mine? Seems like an interesting idea to explore. And Skinner was a Harvard professor.
And both actual and virtual Harbin Hot Springs rewards too? :))
Stay cool! Turn on AC if needed! May get my fan out soon, although it's hot yet not unbearably so, here now! :)

Dear Larry, Govind, Yuping, Jayni, Kyle, Tito, Juan, Julian, WUaS Board members, & All,
I'm glad to be going to talk with Lego Education's Alexandra Orellana-Vlachakis (https://twitter.com/vlachakisalex) in Chicago in about 2 hours. A Lego Education link looks promising for the potential WUaS Press Bookstore / Robotics' store. How much would WUaS get for each Lego Robotics' kit sold is one question I'll learn in talking with Alexandra potentially. - and regarding this emerging conversation: https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/06/flowering-silversword-lego-education.html.
Partly in anticipation of talking with Alexandra at Lego Education, I've updated the WUaS Press with the following: The WUaS Corporation / WUaS Press is a for-profit general stock company legal entity in the state of California
(C4018051 04/21/2017 ACTIVE WUAS CORPORATION CALIFORNIA - https://businesssearch.sos.ca.gov/) - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html.
And I've updated World University and School - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - removing the MIT name in text throughout, and adding:
World University & School is a non-profit 501 (c) 3 Corporation legal entity in the U.S. and in the state of California
(C3289561 04/26/2010 ACTIVE WORLD UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOL CALIFORNIA - https://businesssearch.sos.ca.gov/) - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/.
Somehow last night I radically edited the Academic Press at WUaS / WUaS Corporation page - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html - and removed some book titles too - https://web.archive.org/web/20191203212947/http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html . But I think the web page is better now if Lego Education is going to look at it before I talk with Lego's Alexandra Orellana-Vlachakis (https://twitter.com/vlachakisalex) today, for example, and also regarding:
Thnx Leanna @TOTALTeacher & Alex @vlachakisalex. Am wondering if we could, hypothetically, add your presentation to emergent #ActualVirtual #RealisticVirtualEarthforLego with #FilmTo3D App (in #GooglePoly for #LegoDUPLO & standard bricks)? & esp #RealisticVirtualEarthforRobotics ~
https://twitter.com/WUaSPress/status/1268958678444457984?s=20
For both wings, and WUaS pages, I think having added this language is beneficial:
1(C3289561 04/26/2010 ACTIVE WORLD UNIVERSITY AND SCHOOL CALIFORNIA - https://businesssearch.sos.ca.gov/) - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/.
2
(C4018051 04/21/2017 ACTIVE WUAS CORPORATION CALIFORNIA - https://businesssearch.sos.ca.gov/)
http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html.
...
Regarding best STEM CC-4 OCW licensing communications with MIT legal -
I've also removed the 'MIT' name from many web sites, and from the following subjects from the current WUaS 'Subjects' ' list (https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Subjects) -
- https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Massachusetts_Institute_of_Technology_-_MIT AND
- https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/One_Laptop_per_Child_-_XO_Laptop_-_$100_Laptop_-_MIT
- but am not yet able to delete these 2 wiki subjects with the MIT name in them, since I haven't been able to log into WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki for years now as admin, and am not sure why. I may reach out to Lydia Pintscher and Romaine Wiki about this anew, since they were involved in the set up process. Miraheze MediaWiki (in relation to the Wikimedia Foundation) has not been functioning well for years. I may talk to them about what I think is an existent WUaS Template on their end (i.e. Wikidata and Lydia Pintscher, since the licensing language is already on the WUaS ~725 wiki pages in English) -
Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0) - https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/ - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/.
I haven't figured out what licensing to add to the WUaS Corp / WUaS Press page yet. CC-0 since it has a commercial attribute - or? - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html
So I think most of the MIT name removals are up-to-date to the extent that WUaS can do them. Thoughts, questions, ideas, suggestions?
Sincerely, Scott

LEGO Education store & World Univ & Sch / WUaS's Educational Services' Store
Alexandra and Benjamin,
Thanks so much for talking with me today. The WUaS Educational Services' Store would add Lego links to the Lego Robotics' kits here http://worlduniversityandschool.org/AcademicPress.html. These robotics' kits would include Mindstorms EV3, possibly Spike Prime (if schools could use this STEAM robotics virtually, eg in educational Minecraft, and Brick Street View with Google Street View, and even with a Film-to-3D app into Google Poly), and probably WeDo 2.0 - or esp. kits for these (i.e. Special WeDo2 Scratch BOXER - https://youtu.be/HjD1zAWToYU) - for even learning machine learning (re the 'adversariality' in these boxing, as well as football, examples - and in the MIT 1999 Lego Robotics' competition below), such as even combined with Google Research Football.
You can see the beginnings of learning 'machine learning' with Lego robotics here (WeDo 2.0 and with a MIT 1999 competition) in this blog entry -
http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/02/flying-and-gliding-animals-this-is-next.html - and potentially with Google Research Football machine learning, brainstorming-wise.

Dear Larry,
WUaS can now start putting some value 'on the books' regarding the products we carry in the WUaS Educational Services' Store.
Mindstorms EV3 Lego Robotics costs about $440.00.
The "Haiku~ish" book costs about $5.50.
And while the WUaS Corporation has made a tiny amount of money off some of the books in the Academic Press at WUaS, WUaS is not yet a reseller of Lego Education products, so WUaS won't make any money yet from these. Happy to list them on our web site nevertheless.
Listing Lego Education Robotics is a ginormous step for WUaS. :)

Thanks so much for adding this question to the list for today's webinar - https://www.svdx.org/calendar/2020/6/9/esg-resiliency-in-a-time-of-turmoil-webinar:
"Brainstorming-wise, what role could UBI experiments in all ~200 countries and their main languages, in order to distribute a single cryptocurrency (with block chain ledger), facilitate further ESG goals, (and even conceptually regarding all 7.5 billion people, re universal, to alleviate poverty)? What if a hypothetical "Mine Pi" (coded by Stanford students), or a "Bitcoin" could even be listed, by a company with its Board, on the emerging Silicon Valley long term stock exchange (which has passed one SEC hurdle, I've read) - and, for example, to address the 40 million unemployment claims in the US due to the novel coronavirus pandemic? Thank you, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)"
... and, for further question context for panelists, such a single cryptocurrency would be backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (post Euro in 19 out of 28 nation states, and post dollar as de facto international currency)? This could be because WUaS Law Schools in all ~200 countries' official languages code for this, and our WUaS Law Faculty teach this too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School. Dear Larry, Govind, Yuping, Jayni, Kyle, Tito, Juan, Julian, WUaS Board members, & All,
One of the panelists today - "Kellie Huennekens is Head of ESG Research at Nasdaq" - is from Nasdaq - https://www.svdx.org/calendar/2020/6/9/esg-resiliency-in-a-time-of-turmoil-webinar . Brainstorming-wise further, could the NASDAQ stock exchange fund, or invest in, the emerging Silicon Valley long term stock exchange, which has passed one SEC hurdle? And could the WUaS Corporation list itself on this emergent stock exchange, 'under the wing of Alphabet/Google'? Stay tuned (and these SVDX presentations are open I think; I met Yuping in a Stanford Law SVDX meeting, for example).
ESG is an acronym for 'environmental, social, and governance' and refers to socially responsible investing (for which there's 1 + wiki subject at WUaS as well - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Investing_-_Socially_Responsible and relating to https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Index_Investing and https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Peace_and_Social_Justice_Studies and other f/Friendly concerns).

Yoga ~
Ma, Ann,
How are you both today? Found myself inspired to do further Yoga explorations this morning re chest opening re breathing, beyond morning sitting in half Lotus or Ardha Padmasana - I appreciate the connotations of the Sanskrit names - and bending forward into Yoga Mudrasana on both sides, for infusing in nice ways of a different releasing neurophysiology through the bodymind And I just now learned a new name for Yoga Mudrasana - Psychic Union Pose -
https://youtu.be/acXLkig4gYo ... how interesting! :) Then I did a form of Child's pose on knees sweeping back from hands-growing-roots-down like a parachute (Victor's drawing from a Victor van Kooten book) and not Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward facing dog per se, at first), and then chest opener Viparita Karani on block (like shoulder stand, but pelvis supported ... ) ...
Yoga is a learning process - about inner releasing action neurophysiology of the self in a way - and a quite different learning about the mind or self than in Lacanian MD psychoanalysis for example. Yet both involve learning about the self, as well as well-being-wise or therapeutically potentially.
Was inspired to do Yoga regarding the 'energy' this morning in Canyon as well perhaps ... doing Yoga can change things inside oneself in interesting and attuning ways neurophysiologically ... For example, if irritation, (or anger even), is arising inside, examining oneself and exploring restorative Yoga poses can change this consciousness, through an attuning process, in my explorations.
What's consciousness for you? :) I hope this finds you well.
Exciting developments at WUaS, and phone call with Lego Education tomorrow in Chicago re Lego Robotics' kits for students this autumn.
Love, Scott

Eventually, WUaS seeks to offer online Medical Degrees with online teaching hospitals for online clinical care (and research with clinical trials from home) and for tele-robotic surgery. A film-to-3d application may be part of this (into Google Poly, a library of virtual objects). How best to create such an application in group video and for medicine and tele-robotic surgery is a fascinating technology question - for both education, and clinical care.
Actual-Virtual, Physical-Digital Lego Robotics may be where WUaS begins this Film-to-3D app, and realistic virtual earth, - and in thinking in terms of both MIT's educational MineCraft virtual world, as well a Brick Street View, where brick here refers to a Lego brick (and re, again - Google Street View with TIME SLIDER, Maps, Earth, TensorFlow, Translate, and with Google Meet group video - so regarding Google protocols, infrastructure, platforms).
Thoughts, ideas, questions, suggestions? Looking forward to connecting further on Thursday about this.
World University and School is like 'best STEM CC-4 OpenCourseWare' (in 4 languages) with Wikipedia (in ~300 languages).

Sandhill cranes: How are you doing with the many protests I see happening in Boston via the Boston Globe, Dick and Lucy? And how will 'Black Lives Matter' and the death of George Flloyd change things this November * * * most beautiful walks yet yesterday,
Dear Dick (Richard Robb MD), Lucy, Ma, Ann and Alden,
Will we all be talking for an infinite more number of 4-year US presidential elections due to genetic engineering aging reversal?
The best short 1 minute version of this question with Harvard / MIT Genetics' Prof George Church:
"How soon could humans reverse the aging process with genetic engineering?"
https://youtu.be/bnCEIPQFNnk
(with a transcription of this interview and more - https://www.cbsnews.com/news/harvard-geneticist-george-church-goal-to-protect-humans-from-viruses-genetic-diseases-and-aging-60-minutes-2019-12-08/)
How are you doing with the many protests I see happening in Boston via the Boston Globe, Dick and Lucy? And how will 'Black Lives Matter' and the death of George Flloyd change things this November, given that Pres rump was unsuccessful at imposing martial law. I'd think that science will continue on beyond the November 2020 election, but see the Guardian article below in these regards. What are you thinking regarding the November election?
(Am missing my Dad, GKM MD a bit now and then, and who was very interested in politics; thanks, again, Dick and Lucy, for coming to his Memorial Service at the First Unitarian Church of Pittsburgh!)
I found this recent genetics' article inspiring, partly George Church focused:

The George Floyd murder and Covid-19 have hurt Trump, but maybe not fatally:
The presidentâs approval ratings have dipped sharply but he could still beat Biden
Simon Tisdall
Published on Sat 6 Jun 2020 15.15 EDT
Voter disapproval of Donald Trumpâs handling of the George Floyd protests and the Covid-19 pandemic, plus the accompanying economic meltdown, have undoubtedly hurt the presidentâs re-election chances.
But itâs unclear whether the damage is fatal. Could Trump, despite everything, still stage a comeback and beat the Democratic nominee, Joe Biden?
Things are looking bad for Trump right now. His job approval rating has dipped sharply in recent days. Based on an average of 12 polls taken since 25 May the day Floyd was killed, it stands at about 43%, with 54% disapproving.
Trumpâs loyalist âbaseâ is said to comprise 25-30% of voters. The remainder of the 46% who backed him in 2016 will not necessarily do so again. There are signs that key voter groups are less committed â or more fiercely opposed.
A recent survey of white Christian evangelicals showed a 15% drop in support for Trump support. Among white Catholics, it dropped by 27%.
Bidenâs appeal among African-Americans could provide him with winning margins in swing states
Many white suburban women deserted the Republicans in the 2018 mid-terms. This group may be further alienated by the health crisis, economic uncertainty, and Trumpâs divisiveness. Older voters suffering the brunt of the pandemic are said to feel abandoned while the electorate as whole is getting younger. And for the first time, a third of eligible voters are non-white.
Revived fury over racial injustice may galvanise the black vote â a crucial 12.5% of the electorate â against the president. In 2016, black turnout declined for the first time in 20 years.
Bidenâs appeal among African-Americans, demonstrated in the primaries, could reverse that trend and provide winning margins in swing states. Among all voters, Bidenâs current lead is 11%.Yet Trump has been written off before. He has the advantage of incumbency and an enormous war chest. He plays dirty. By autumn, the economy may have revived, and the pandemic subsided. And gaffe-prone Biden carries much baggage.
The protests may have scared as many Middle America voters as they energised. Nobody knows how Trumpâs Nixonian appeals to the âsilent majorityâ and âlaw and orderâ will play in Peoria.
One thing is certain: heâs a long way from beaten.
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/06/floyd-covid-19-hurt-trump-but-maybe-not-fatally
Interesting British perspective from across the water, with 4 months to go before the election. Biden seems to be looking around some as the news' announcement of his running mate timing, perhaps, is thought through. Could Biden pick up important swing states depending on VP choice - https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2020/politics/quiz-biden-vice-president-pick/ & "Election outcomes in key states like Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, North Carolina, Florida and Arizona all come down to the same thing: the percentage of Democrats and left-leaning independents that end up casting ballots compared with the percentage of Republicans and right-leaning independents that do so. Republicans understand this campaign math and learned to solve this equation a long time ago. The only question is, have Democrats finally solved it too?" https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/26/opinion/joe-biden-running-mate.html? Maybe not ...
Am still inclined toward Elizabeth Warren regarding the Biden campaign also getting Harvard thinking (and in all the swing states too) as having merit (but am not sure about the possible loss of the Mass. Senate seat) - and since 8 Harvard Alums / similar have been presidents - which is probably a higher number than most other institutions / organizations / networks / universities too - in this country.
... What do you think?
And China? Was the Sars-CoV-2 novel coronavirus COVID-19 a game changer in nation states' boundaries popping up in new ways, now around a biological threat, and regarding China getting rich quickly, and a shifting balance of power questions internationally? Effects on the Nov 2020 US election?
Warmly,
Scott

Hi Ma,
I took one of the most beautiful walks yet yesterday in and near the open valley to the east of me - on the new far side of the massif's level way. It was partly so nice because the weather was cool, but also because I was aware of the loveliness of what I was walking through. Saw lots of new animals. The other day along the far side of the massif, I think an owl swooped down out of a tree limb in front of me, and into the far valley, the other side of the massif. Another cool beautiful day here ahead I think.
How are you? And what do you have planned for today?
Here's my blog post about Pittsburgh again, and Shady Side Academy too - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/squaw-run-wuas-livestream-may-18-2020.html !
An article in the German newspaper "The World" ("Die Welt") showed up this morning on neuropsychiatry, regarding my mentioning George Church's mention of this word in the "Neo" (Innovative Synthetic Biology) panel on April 9, 2020. The article mentions a Boris Cyrilnik - will check out further, and also regarding questions of culture. Did Church hear a neuropsychiatrist speak in Boston, and appreciated the thinking, and who was this? Am wondering, as you may observe, about the benefits of psychiatry and re culture, and newly online, for many - especially in the SF Bay Area, and among Quakers, here in Canyon, among Harbin residents, and Lake County folks too.
Another article yesterday in a Swiss paper, I think, mentioned the benefits of patience and discipline (Geduld und Disziplin) in this novel coronavirus pandemic time too; old 'values' in a way, and sensible too perhaps in these curious times. (This isn't the article but its relevant - Disziplin, Geduld, Angst â Urlaub im Schatten von Corona Veröffentlicht am 15.05.2020 - https://www.welt.de/politik/deutschland/plus208005751/Urlaub-an-der-Ostsee-mit-Corona-Disziplin-Geduld-Angst.html ).
Changes in awareness - consciousness that is - are interesting to think about and explore idea-wise as well, Ma! :)
Am amazed about the beauty around me here in Canyon 94516, but also think it's interesting I've stayed so far removed from Canyon's (alternative???, unique not-great?) culture, probably with great benefits. How to seek and find a great life partner, and begin a family, based here for the time being, I wonder? Appreciating your thinking in these regards, Ma!
What are you up to today, Ma! Talk with you soon! :)
Love, Scott

Hi Ma,
How was your week, and how are you?
Nice cool weather again this morning and today. It's supposed to get hot again on Monday ... how's the weather by you?
Another reason to think about leaving Canyon, esp when kids come along, is the light-colored mineral in the water. I'd think that I'm ingesting minute amounts daily, given the amount that's accumulated on dish drainer (without heat) and soft boiled egg pan (with heat). And could it even be affecting my breathing, lodging in my upper chest and body? (I'm now drying all my dishes to increase the chance I'll remove more mineral than otherwise). I'd like to live elsewhere to let the mineral l ingest dissipate, and leave my body, - and not ingest any whatsoever! And so my kids too don't ingest it from an early age. Pgh? Massachusetts? Some place good to raise kids. Other reasons include perhaps Canyon culture and mental health issues here esp. The heat too (although that's many places ) ... and I'm looking for good sociality, where here in Canyon I'm a little solitary in these regards. I'd like to live closer to Cuttyhunk too sociality-wise, although flying works ... We may live beyond 122 years of age ... so there's maybe years ahead to explore all of this. :)
And maybe I can create good sociality online in new ways, - and the weather overall is better here than back east, with warmer winters, & no humidity in summers to speak of ... so perhaps I can do even more to make the water here mineral-free with a filter, and add air conditioning to where I'm living out here, and generate good sociality on-the-ground, with a life partner and kids, - but if I were to somehow get the next place along on the ridge here, and build a house (since there isn't one), how would I handle generation of goodness in Canyon, - which might even have a reputation for badness - have heard the saying that "The devil lives in Canyon" - but am not sure. My not engaging in the culture here has probably been good, for goodness sake, as curious as this idea might be ... hmmm ...
Glad to have communicated with not only Lego Education Sales' representatives yesterday re my big educational project's bookstore / robotics' store ahead, but also esp. heard from MIT legal (and as a continuation of hearing from its Exec Dir of best STEM CC-4 OCW Cecilia d'Olivier there 4 years ago re law questions) ... kinda momentous and making progress.
How to seek out and find a great life partner I wonder? UU extended circles? No word back from Ed in these regards, and even regarding seeking a MD life partner ... welcoming your ideas here :)
Love, Scott
*
Ma,
I suppose I could think of my abode in Canyon as a kind of campsite too (a Lydia Pintscher idea I just gleaned in a Wikidata-related email - and regarding beautiful spots in crowded Europe too - where??... If I were ever able to invite a friend and potential life partner to visit here, 'camp site' language might be a good way of explaining Canyon to someone good whom I meet online (from Cambridge, MA?), for example, or through Ed. (I'm not only very concerned about ... being unwell, but also ... mental health issues; MD psychoanalysis for both could benefit ...). How to navigate Canyon psychiatric issues that arise ahead I wonder?
Just responding in draft form to MIT legal, with Larry.
How's your day going?

HI Ma,
It has stayed pretty nice & cool throughout the afternoon. How was your day? And how are you?
I found this recent genetics' article inspiring, partly George Church focused:
After the MadnessâPandemic Silver Linings in Bioscience
Will the frenzied rush to understand and treat SARS-CoV-2 bring longer lasting benefit to the world of scientific research and medicine?
By David Ewing Duncan
George Church, MIT and Harvard Professor of Genetics, was a panelist in this related fascinating conference, now in video:
Neo.Life Boston (April 9 2020)
https://youtu.be/t3M1hRpSa6E" ... startling and positive visions for humanity through the lens of NEO.LIFEâs expert ... Boston innovators from bioengineering, neuroscience, design and venture capital, who contributed to our book, Neo.Life: 25 Visions for the Future of Our Species" "
Social distancing seems to working ... have a different kind of coronavirus, not SARS-CoV-2 and be in a related coronavirus + network, - and perhaps it's good I've been social distancing ... too for nearly all 13 years. Glad too Ed came over 2 Sundays ago re a change in his reAding of Canyon as both scary and intimidating. Nice cool. In George C's Neo 10 minute talk (re above article and video), which I attended online, he mentioned the need for neuro-psychiatry - am not sure in what context however - but which could be relevant. Social distancing however is working alright for now.
And I also haven't met a life partner here in all these years ... am keeping seeking ... re my agency re George A ... science ahead re my big educational project in realistic virtual earth for genetics ... https://twitter.com/hashtag/RealisticVirtualEarthForGenetics?src=hashtag_click ...
I think I might be being more social if I were living in the Boston area than here ... maybe in protesting - https://www.bostonglobe.com/2020/06/06/nation/protest-with-100000-people-or-more-is-expected-washington-dc/ - than in Berkeley, although maybe I'll head in to Berkeley on Monday to another 'Black Lives Matter' protest - http://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/06/western-prairie-fringed-orchid-berkeley.html?m=0 - and when it's supposed to be really hot again!
Found this Guardian article today which you might be interested in as well:
Among all voters, Bidenâs current lead is 11%.
Yet Trump has been written off before.
One thing is certain: heâs a long way from beaten.https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/jun/06/floyd-covid-19-hurt-trump-but-maybe-not-fatally

Certainly a classic. It's interesting that it never occured to me (as a little kid) that the man in the yellow hat kidnapped George. And where was George's mom? Killed by the man in the yellow hat, off stage?
George is relatable to kids because he acts on his desires without any concept of action and consequence.

I like your interpretation:
"George is relatable to kids because he acts on his desires without any concept of action and consequence."
And good questions. (A story of colonialism and zoo-ification too? Modernity comes to Africa?). I like the not absurdity, but the curiosity or whimsy, of the book, as George comes into all these human situations - and is anthropomorphized in a way (since his monkey behavior isn't a focus).
Am curious about 'Children's Literature and Wisdom' - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/Children%27s_Literature_and_Wisdom - and a reading of the idea of wisdom in the whole Curious George series. I draw a blank here.
And how to generate best wise kids' book titles for this - in all languages - and even as a flourishing wiki conversation? :)
Is "Ferdinand the Bull" a wise kids' book? (I head in this direction:).

Ms. Susan Claus,
Here's Make Way for Ducklings by Robert McCloskey
https://youtu.be/LBNjJmR5Yzw
Wise? What do you think? I do think there's wisdom in this, since they're looking for a good place to raise a duckling family - and find it, with a policeman who gives them peanuts and watches out for them, calling Clancy to get a police car to protect them! And they also pass by a very cool bookstore. (And there's no man in the yellow hat to kidnap them!) ... and all in a big pretty city! For wild ducks, this is fantastic duckiness! What think you?

Hi Ma,
Glad to have heard from both Mark MacLeod (1st cousin) and Sioux Davis (SCD friend from high school, who visited me here in Canyon last year from Pgh) - and Peter Bothe in Germany today too. Good family and friends re isolation here are nice.
I think I come back to philosophical thinking re this and much (as well as Quaker, UUs -Western analytical, linguistic philosophical thinking re Yoga, and other 'religious' traditions, has much merit, but appreciating too, aspects of good cultures that emerge from same (A&V Yoga, Unitarian Universalism, Quakers, Nontheist Friendliness, Atheistic Quakerism, Agnosticism, Meditation (re relaxation response) and studying this scientifically, Harbin Hot Springs' soaking, Hinduism/New England transcendentalism -
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transcendentalism - read the first paragraph re 'goodness,' the second paragraph re Unitarians ... and add some critical thinking / philosophical skepticism / and open ended thinking creativity to the mix ?:) (...at bottom here - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/common-garter-snake-harbin-hot-springs.html ).
But what is cattle consciousness re both the hard and 'easy' problems of consciousness (https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/hawksbill-sea-turtle-great-family.html and https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/04/red-trillium-cow-and-calf-what-is-cow.html )?
Am glad Ed came over to Canyon on Saturday after some years re his changing understanding of Canyon (as being 'scary' & 'intimidating' - perhaps due the RN Travis doing a night shift in landlord's upper room and even befriending T.W. - so not from an adversarial medical personnel/systems/Canyon perspective), all speculatively, except Ed's coming over. (Quakers do their own wrap-around adversariality or opponent process stuff in human behavior - you do too, Ma :) Pgh and MA have merit in my thinking for schools for my kids, as well re family and friends after my kids are born. (Cuttyhunk 1 room schoolhouse even - re safe nest? ... and having come miles in online education at all levels in the last 3 months?:))
Love, Scott
PS In a 25 minute call with Margo Warnecke yesterday, I seem to have been offered an artist-in-residence position yesterday in Sonoma having attended a Stanford Historical Society presentation online on architect John Carl Warnock by granddaughter - at the Warnecke ranch / Institute - https://www.chalkhillresidency.com/artist-residency. Having published 3 books of poetry and in playing the Scottish Small Pipes, would this be structured & remunerated like a Stanford University artist in residency, I wonder? Could my hypothetical wife to be occupy my place in Canyon while I was in residence? I just looked and it isn't structured like a Stanford artist-in-residency, rather it looks like one pays rent - so am not interested in this one after all. BUT could I instead explore an artist-in-residency position at Stanford University itself, if I were to find one posted, and after Stanford opens again?
Gonna be hot here today again! :)

There's nothing in "District" to pick ... a check mark shows up when I click on its down arrow on the side, but the "District" field doesn't work. So at this point, I can't register.
Alexandra, there are a bunch of required fields in today's registration form, so if I were to try an Illinois county, it would conflict with the CA address.
Thanks, Scott

Hi Alexandra,
Thanks so much for your email.
World Univ & Sch is seeking to develop 'Home Robotics' - potentially with Lego Robotics' kits - where WUaS would send Lego kits to matriculated WUaS students, in an 'engineering' major (or with a high school 'science' focus), in their homes in all ~200 countries - with courses emerging from something like this best STEM CC-4 OCW course - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/experimental-study-group/es-293-lego-robotics-spring-2007/ - into something like edX, and initially at the high school and undergraduate levels (and also with Scratch language programming). The Lego robotics' kits would initially include WeDo 2.0, Spike Prime, Mindstorms EV3 / Mindstreams, etc.). This would be for students learning machine learning eventually as well. WUaS has an #ActualVirtual #PhysicalDigital focus, and potentially in a #RealisticVirtualEarthForRobotics too (e.g. with - - - 's educational version of Minecraft / Brick Street View in Google Street View, where Brick here refers to a Lego brick). While WUaS is seeking to matriculate our 2nd undergraduate class online this autumn, and at present for just a few prospective undergraduate students (in 6 majors), WUaS would eventually seek to have online undergraduate classes of possibly 2,000 students, first in English, and then in each of all ~200 countries' official / main languages (since Scratch programming is in these languages too). So in these online (licensing and accrediting) high school and college contexts, in what ways could WUaS let students get such Lego Robotics' kits? Could WUaS make these available in a WUaS online robotics' store, for example? What would you suggest in exploring these ideas further? And how might WUaS best make Lego Robotics' kits be available to our undergraduate Engineering majors beginning this autumn, please?
Thank you so much, and I look forward to hearing from you further about some of these ideas.
Best, Scott

Hi Scott,
Happy to help answer your questions. I will do so inline below.
1.So in these online (licensing and accrediting) high school and college contexts, in what ways could WUaS let students get such Lego Robotics' kits? Could WUaS make these available in a WUaS online robotics' store, for example? Our products are available on our LEGO Education store. So the easiest way would be to include a link to our site. We would have to talk a little more to be understand your store and see if this works for you.
2.What would you suggest in exploring these ideas further? And how might WUaS best make Lego Robotics' kits be available to our undergraduate Engineering majors beginning this autumn, please? Iâm available for a phone call to further discuss your needs. How does next week look for you?Have a great weekend,

Hi Alexandra,
Thanks for your responses. I'll seek to reply inline in kind:
Regarding your:- "Our products are available on our LEGO Education store. So the easiest way would be to include a link to our site. We would have to talk a little more to be understand your store and see if this works for you."
A Lego Education store link in WUaS online bookstores / computer stores / robotics' stores initially would work. WUaS is planning to develop our online stores with TensorFlow AI potentially, and in many languages with time. Eventually, WUaS seeks to have on-the-ground educational services' stores too in all ~200 countries (am thinking WalMart), so it would be great to talk further about this. If WUaS added a LEGO Education store link, and WUaS students got Lego Robotics' kits for their courses from the WUaS store, how does that work? Would Spike Prime be something the WUaS younger online high schools could get for online STEAM work, since WUaS is planning only to be online schools (and I've heard that only schools can get Spike Prime)?
And regarding your:- "Iâm available for a phone call to further discuss your needs. How does next week look for you?"
Talking next week could work for me. What are some good times for you?

Hello Ed, Came off ridge to get out of heat: 96 F the car said, 89F the smartphone said (and was probably 95F inside where I live). Found my way to BERKELEY, and there's a nonviolent Black Lives Matter protest on MLK and Bancroft near Berkeley High, your kids' alma mater (Amelia's at least so far). People with signs are on both sides of the road, that I saw. Putting on my bandana mask, and may head out to join ... see you there? Have just seen 5 cop cars drive by at corner of Allston & McKinley. How are you? EdX for courses at WUaS is looking promising this autumn! :)
Lots of Black Lives Matter signs, no speeches, no bullhorns, cars are honking as they pass in solidarity, most demonstrators are wearing novel coronavirus masks, about 73F, possibly 50-150 protesters, many kids - with signs
But Telegraph Ave near campus (UC Berkeley) had absolutely no one on it, and no tie die tables, bong and pipe vendors (despite cannabis being more legal than ever, at the state level), or artists displaying their creations for sale.

Here's a draft letter to our current prospective undergraduate students, for this autumn:
"Dear World University and School prospective students,
World University and School is delighted to let you know that WUaS will be matriculating students this autumn in August and September. Students will be taking edX courses, many derived from CC-4 MIT OpenCourseWare courses, and offering these 6 majors: 1) EECS, 2) General Engineering, 3) General Science, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business.
Please stay tuned for the next steps in how you can enroll, and the courses that you can choose from in your first year of studies at WUaS, which you will access from here - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/. Thank you for your interest in studying at World University and School for a 4 year free-to-students' Bachelor degree.
Sincerely yours, Scott GK MacLeodPresident, Founder and ProfessorWorld University and School"

Dear Larry,
Looks like Sanjay's email was about both linking edX courses, and licensing/ endorsement clarifications.
1
Thinking in terms of Shahbaz Sanjer in India, one clarifying question for MIT legal:Can WUaS add all edX courses, in English lit, for ex., to the WUaS course catalog?
I think Sanjay said we can here.
2
In that edX is creating a MicroBachelors and MicroMasters degrees - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroMasters (and edX here is listed as owner, with Anant and Sanjay as key people) - and since our BPPE workshops are cancelled, could edX/WUaS somehow create a NEW 'MacroBachelor' or 'MajorBachelor' degree with edX name credibility? A 'MacroPhD,' 'MajorPhD' too (and skip BPPE & WASC)?
3
Reimbursement from countries' Depts of Education, non-student sources via edX - pegged on MIT tuition level?
4
Am glad WUaS may be getting in communication with MIT legal (rather than edX legal), since this could open avenues to other questions regarding WUaS matriculating students each a Wikidata PIN # in 300 languages (7117 living languages too regarding WUaS wiki schools too?, & 7.5 billion people re UBI experiments too?), transcripts, - and re questions of money transfer mechanism. This would be a very edX-centric set of developments for WUaS, - and I hope that the MIT LEGAL licensing clarifications re above would include questions of remuneration for WUaS.Am hoping Shahbaz can enroll in the autumn, as example. Quality of WUaS degrees will inform reimbursement from countries' questions. Glad too that Sanjay is beginning to think in terms too of WUaS (and that Rafael Reif has his PhD from Stanford too, like Anant).Sincerely, Scott

Re my email to Varun Shukla in India just now, am wondering about the value, with time, of having our WUaS applicants take a standardized exam online like the CLT - https://www.insidehighered.com/admissions/article/2019/10/21/classic-learning-test-aims-challenge-sat ... which currently costs around US $54, probably out of the range of Varun, and many high achieving students from the developing world seeking a better future for themselves. So would WUaS cover the cost of this? To be seen. What do you think?
In further communication with the MIT Professor and VP in the Office of Digital Learning, Sanjay Sarma, who's uncle or similar is a politician in India I think, am wondering too about reimbursement from Departments of Education in all ~200 countries. Thoughts, questions, ideas, suggestions?
FYI, here's where World Univ & Sch stands with licensing currently:
World Univ & Sch continues to seek to observe the best STEM Cc-4 OCW, and the edX, licensing terms (and per our communication with OCW director Cecilia d'Oliveira previously, that WUaS may 1) share, 2) adapt, 3) but non-commercially the best STEM Cc-4 OCW (now in 4 languages), - and see the further licensing clarifications here per her: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/) -
Best STEM Cc-4 OCW Creative Commons' licensing and endorsement clarifications:
a) MIT is not affiliated with, and does not endorse, World University and School b) MIT does not offer credit to WUaS students, and c) All MIT OpenCourseWare materials are available for free through http://ocw.mit.edu )And see too correspondence with MIT's Sanjay Sarma - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/cosmos-bipinnatus-heard-back-from-mit.html -
And as WUaS prepares for a possible autumn collaboration with edX, WUaS has listed about 75 CC-4 best STEM CC-4 OCW courses, ~14 edX courses, and about 19 CC-3 Yale OYC courses in our course catalog (but wouldn't yet have access to edX MITx courses from best STEM CC-4 OCW grades, for example) - https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1VRHhXYsk-V9lvSh5onaU2hnEhwoapSN7HyBK1P09LIk/edit?usp=sharing (http://worlduniversityandschool.org/).
WUaS is currently waiting to hear back from MIT Legal per Sanjay with regard to further exploratory steps re linking, licensing and much more.
Sincerely, Scott
Email today to Varun Shukla near Mumbai, India:
Thank you for your mail. And greetings! Is this your Twitter URL - https://twitter.com/varunss2211? And what languages do you speak? best STEM CC-4 OCW-centric wiki World University & School admission's process is in progress. At this stage, World Univ & Sch will likely offer only 4-year Bachelor degree programs, with these 6 majors - 1) EECS, 2) General Science, 3) General Engineering, 4) English, 5) History, 6) Business - see: http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - but since you already have a Ph.D., why might you be interested in a Bachelor degree? And what major might you apply for?
WUaS will likely have space in our Business major for a free-to-students' best STEM CC-4 OCW-centric Bachelor's degree, providing WUaS could move forward together with edX and regarding the edX platform (which is something WUaS is in communication with edX about). The enrollment process would then be similar to edX's, but stay tuned since WUaS may seek essays, language proficiency, letters of recommendation, & test scores (possibly the CLT - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classic_Learning_Test), etc. - as if someone from India were applying to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) itself on-the-ground in Cambridge, Massachusetts. While World Univ & Sch seeks to begin to offer our online Bachelor's degree classes in collaboration with edX this autumn 2020, the WUaS Ph.D. degrees would begin the following autumn 2021 at the earliest. Applying would probably occur through - http://worlduniversityandschool.org/ - and I will add you to WUaS's monthly business meetings' emailings. Thank you again for your interest in best STEM CC-4 OCW-centric wiki World Univ & Sch.

Dear Larry, Govind, Kyle, Jayni, Tito, Yuping, Juan, WUaS Board,
Varun Shukla in India has written again with an interest in matriculating at World Univ & Sch this autumn in the General Science major. Our recent correspondence is below.
It's great that WUaS has a prospective student who is interested in our proposed General Science degree, potentially beginning this autumn. Am wondering how the WUaS Admissions' process will grow over the years' ahead. Am wondering too about WUaS seeking a variety of Department of Educations in India for reimbursement, for example; in what ways might WUaS engage MIT Professors, Sanjay Sarma, the VP in the Office of Digital Learning, or Anant Agarwal, edX's CEO in these regards?
As you'll see in this recent blog post, best STEM CC-4 OCW doesn't have a "Science" page upon searching, but it does have a page for our other 5 majors - https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/05/starfish-fromia-monilis-cc-4-mit-ocw.html - and WUaS has alos posted only one edX from MITx from best STEM CC-4 OCW Science courses so far.
All the best, Scott- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/06/antillean-crested-hummingbird-i-want-to.html -
*Dear Sir,
I have done Ph.D. in Religion & Doctor of Biblical Studies (D.B.S.) both from ULC, Modesto, California (unaccredited).
Yes @varunss2211 is my twitter.
I would like to take major in General Science
My mother tongue is Gujarati. I also speak English, Hindi, Marathi and Bengali.
Yours,
Dr. Varun ShuklaNavi Mumbai,India
Thank you for your response. Stay tuned as World Univ & Sch develops its admissions' process, as well as our collaborations with edX. WUaS is seeking to offer courses like this over 4 years - Introduction to Biology - The Secret of Life: https://www.edx.org/course/introduction-to-biology-the-secret-of-life-3 - for World Univ & Sch credit, as we seek to develop online free-to-students' Bachelor degrees, and also to seek reimbursement from nation states, countries, counties, and states' Departments of Education.

Dear Larry, Govind, Kyle, Jayni, Tito, Yuping, Juan, WUaS Board,
By the way, Varun Shukla in India writes he's completed both a high school degree and an online, it appears, "Ph.D. in Religion & Doctor of Biblical Studies (D.B.S.) both from ULC, Modesto, California (unaccredited)" - from Universal Life Church and costing $59 - see: https://store.ulc.net/mobile/Product.aspx?ProductCode=doctor-of-biblical-studies AND https://www.degreeinfo.com/index.php?threads/ulc-scamage.39628/ - so I can understand perhaps now why he is interested in the WUaS free-to-students' 'accrediting' best STEM CC-4 OCW-centric Bachelor's degree. He could conceivably even afford the CLT exam from India.
The first step of licensing and accreditation for WUaS may be to go through the CA BPPE's "Application for Approval to Operate for an Institution Non Accredited" - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/forms_pubs/approval_nonaccredited.pdf" but I've read that the related BPPE workshops are cancelled.
So, in terms of WUaS's licensing (CA's BPPE) which is the first step in then concurrently accrediting (probably with WASC), all of the CA BPPE workshops have been cancelled through the end of 2020 (probably due to the coronavirus pandemic) - https://www.bppe.ca.gov/schools/application_workshops.shtml - this makes it difficult for WUaS to begin to offer online Bachelor (or Ph.D.) degrees that will then become accredited (as WUaS becomes accredited). (Also WUaS doesn't have the BPPE fee money to begin this process anyway).
So I'm wondering if state of California licensing / accreditation ONLINE is the right direction to head in at this stage - since online licensing / accreditation may be impossible at this stage. And could WUaS collaborate with edX to create potentially our own forms of accreditation, per recent correspondence with Larry: "in that edX is creating a MicroBachelors and MicroMasters degrees - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MicroMasters (and edX here is listed as owner, with Anant and Sanjay as key people) - and since our BPPE workshops are cancelled, could edX/WUaS somehow create a NEW 'MacroBachelor' or 'MajorBachelor' degree with edX name credibility? A 'MacroPhD,' 'MajorPhD' too (and skip BPPE & WASC)?
In a related vein: am curious if WUaS could eventually request best STEM CC-4 OCW courses to be translated into MITx / edX courses. Here's an Anthropology course taught by MIT Professors Heather Paxson (Quaker, I think), and Graham Jones (who's a Reedie - a Reed College Alum), as an example - https://ocw.mit.edu/courses/anthropology/21a-157-the-meaning-of-life-spring-2019/ . And do you know this Monty Python version of
Monty Python's The Meaning of Life | The Miracle of Birth

Browser was shutting down as I was writing the last email, and with a familiar error message was popping up just before the Safari browser shut down - the 3-repeat message happens and then Safari closes - and then the 3-repeat message but Safari didn't close ... is this a Google Apple process?
So BPPE may have had its highs and lows in recent decades, and may also be saying with 'non-accredited' licensing to end users, like people in India, PERHAPS to BEWARE. Shall WUaS seek edX 'accreditation' or its own creation, or seek BPPE licensing / WASC senior accreditation for both Bachelor and Ph.D.s (per BPPE, and first in English) - if WUaS had the $5,000 for BPPE and the $10,000 eligibility fee, and then the $1,000 per year per student I think - and then the $10,000 or so to become accredited - with accreditation happening only AFTER we graduate our first undergraduate Bachelor's degree class (but with provisional accreditation in the interim). What do you think? And what would be best for our students, and seeking reimbursement from Departments of Education in all ~200 countries (and if we were collaborating with edX as well)? And what about 'the other America' and the non-rich 'developing world'? I'd think if we could guarantee quality of degrees, and make these relevant for India and other countries in the developing world, their Departments of Education might appreciate less of an outlay for WUaS degrees (re accreditation) ... even as WUaS seeks to peg reimbursement on MIT's tuition for studying from home degrees.
I've also renewed WUaS's Grants.gov password over the weekend for about the 10th or 15th time, - every 6 weeks (WUaS didn't get a $250,000 grant through Grants.gov a few years ago) - and just received today Congresswoman Nancy Pelosi's Grants' Newsletter, a few days late after the beginning of the month, which lays out grant opportunities. Would a granting agency fund WUaS NEWLY to license with BPPE and then seek accreditation with WASC senior? (Can't also attend the BPPE workshops if they are closed through year's end). Would a granting agency award WUaS monies to hire graduate student instructors from MIT and Harvard and Stanford, without WASC senior or similar accreditation?
Where might the CLT play a role in WUaS seeking and finding high achieving students from around the world - https://www.cltexam.com/home ? Princeton's Robert George on this page went to Quaker schools too I think. I've met him at Stanford as well. I don't think accepting the CLT exam would cost WUaS anything.
Thoughts, ideas, questions, comments? I think a WUaS US degree would have much more value if WUaS was accredited - opening avenues to many careers otherwise inaccessible.
Cheers, Scott- https://scott-macleod.blogspot.com/2020/06/antillean-crested-hummingbird-i-want-to.html -

Dear WUaS Board,
Each person in the world, all 7.5 billion people, a WUaS Wikidata PIN# (nee Wikidata Q-item #), beginning with matriculating WUaS students in all ~200 countries' official languages, and then speakers of all 7,117 known living languages as wiki teachers and learners at WUaS - since WUaS donated ourselves to Wikidata for co-development, and got the front end WUaS Miraheze MediaWiki in 2017 as a consequence? For ex. - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/You_at_World_University .
Just asked these questions, as I registered for this Stanford Law SVDX webinar on Tu June 9, 2020 at 10 am PT - https://www.svdx.org/calendar/2020/6/9/esg-resiliency-in-a-time-of-turmoil-webinar: "Brainstorming-wise, what role could UBI experiments in all ~200 countries and their main languages, in order to distribute a single cryptocurrency (with block chain ledger), facilitate further ESG goals, (and even conceptually regarding all 7.5 billion people, re universal, to alleviate poverty)? What if a hypothetical "Mine Pi" (coded by Stanford students), or a "Bitcoin" could even be listed, by a company with its Board, on the emerging Silicon Valley long term stock exchange (which has passed one SEC hurdle, I've read) - and, for example, to address the 40 million unemployment claims in the US due to the novel coronavirus pandemic? Thank you, Scott (sgkmacleod@worlduniversityandschool.org)"
... and somehow backed by some number of ~200 countries' central banks (post Euro in 19 out of 28 countries, and post dollar as de facto international currency)? This could be because WUaS Law Schools in all ~200 countries' official languages code for this, and our WUaS Law Faculty teach this too - https://wiki.worlduniversityandschool.org/wiki/World_University_Law_School.
I think the Stanford Law SVDX webinar is open - and its focus is Board Members actually. All of the above would be in the WUaS Corp legal entity in all likelihood.
Still waiting to hear back about edX licensing and similar from Sanjay Sarma, MIT Professor and VP in the Office of Digital Learning, and re MIT Legal, which he said he would brief regarding best STEM CC-4 OCW-centric World Univ & Sch, and they - MIT Legal - would get back to WUaS.
