In Which Our Heroine Finds A Telegram That Brings Her To Tears

Time for a brief bit of history . . .
In researching old photographs of Chicago for the writing of Hexbound, I posted over at Write What You See a few minutes ago about the photograph collections available from the Library of Congress's online American Memory project.
I also thought I'd see if the collection housed any images of Chicago's Kimball mansion (the model for Cadogan House). A word search for "Kimball" pulled up a pretty lengthy list. As I was scanning it, I came across the...

Write Your @ss Off!!

Alright, fellow writers. This is your official call to arms. As you know, I'm joining blogger Editorial Ass to devote 8 hours to writing on Saturday, February 6.
Now, to be honest, this is the first weekend in which I haven't had something scheduled in a while, so my goal is actually to churn 4,000 words this weekend (not necessarily to spend 8 hours in a chair just on Saturday).
So -- who's with me? Who's willing to set a writing goal this weekend and try to follow it through? If you're...

Some Chicago Sweetness

I've run across some fun Chicago bits and pieces lately, so I thought I'd share:
1. I adore the Chicago City Print by J. Hill Design. You can order a print or notecards!
2. Chicago jewelrymaker Jess L.C. is having a Valentine's Day Trunk Show Feb. 11-12 at Macy's on State Street in Chicago. (You may remember Jess from such posts as this one.) Gorgeous jewelry, lovely prices.
3. Apartment Therapy - Chicago. This is a daily read for me. Great design, cool shops, and the best of the best of...

Booksigning tonight - University of Nebraska!

Join me tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the University of Nebraska, where I'll be signing copies of, well, whatever books are put in front of me and reading a passage from FIRESPELL! I'll also talk about publication and the writing process.

If you're on the fence about making the trek down to Lincoln, I'll also be revealing . . . for the first time . . . the title of the second book in my DARK ELITE series!

Hope to see you there, and go big red!

Cast of Characters

I've gotten questions lately about who I visualize to "play" the roles of Merit, Ethan, Lily, Jason, Morgan, et al. (You know who you are, Wisconsin!). Today's installment - the "cast" of Chicagoland Vampires.
Although I absolutely encourage you to imagine the guys and gals you think "fit" the characters best, here are a few that come to mind!
Ethan (CV) - David Beckham

Merit (CV) - Zooey Deschanel. (Image via Daemon's TV). The pic is actually from Zooey's guest appearance on Bones with sister...

Firespell and, well, that other thing.

Alrighty, folks. The weather has cleared and the trucks have rolled out. That means FIRESPELL, the first book in my young adult Dark Elite series, should be at a bookstore or Wal-Mart near you!

Oh, yeah...And Chapter Two of Twice Bitten is now live!!
(But don't forget about Lily and Scout, who need your love, too!)
P.S. - Thanks to Katarina's reminder, I'm posting again over at Write What You See. Check it out!

Write Your @ss Off!

I'm joining blogger Editorial Ass to participate in February's Write Your @ss Off Day! The idea is that you'll commit to devote 8 hours to your writing on a selected day between February 5 - 8, 2010. You can also drop a marker on the Write Your @ss Off! map to show where and when you'll be writing (your @ss off).

I'll be writing (my @ss off) on Saturday, February 6, and working on the draft for the second Dark Elite novel (title and release date TBA). What about you?

Go Team!

From today's NY Times, publishers respond to iBooks on the Apple iPad.

"We have learned that it is never wise to stand between a consumer and a
preference" for how they get their content, said John Makinson, chief executive
of Penguin Group, the book publisher.

Go team! :)
