Facebook, Twitter Remove Alleged Russian ‘Covert Influence Operations’

Social media platforms Facebook and Twitter have reportedly removed two anti-Ukrainian “covert influence operations” from their platforms. One group appears to be based in Russia and a second in Belarus, according to the Silicon Valley Masters of the Universe.
NBC News reports that Facebook and Twitter have removed what they refer to as anti-Ukrainian “covert influence operations.” One operation was linked to Russia and another appeared to have connections to Belarus according to the social media giants.

One of the alleged disinformation operations was a propaganda campaign featuring a website promoting anti-Ukraine information. This was reportedly linked to a known Russian disinformation operation. A Facebook spokesperson explained that the disinformation operations used AI-generated faces linked to fake columnists and news articles in an effort to add credibility to the campaign.
The other disinformation operation allegedly used hacked legitimate accounts to push anti-Ukrainian propaganda and had links to a known Belarusian hacking group. The networks were removed by both Facebook and Twitter.
Nathaniel Gleicher, Facebook’s head of security policy, said that the larger of the two campaigns operated from Russia as well as the Donbas and Crimea regions of Ukraine. The group is reportedly tied to the websites News Front and South F …

Jill Biden introduces Kamala Harris as ‘the president,’ then says she was joking

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
First lady Jill Biden mistakenly introduced Vice President Kamala Harris as the president of the United States during a Black History Month celebration at the White House on Monday, then claimed she was joking after correcting herself.“As many of you know, our vice president’s historic path to the White House began before she could even walk, marching with her parents in the Civil Rights movement, or at least being pushed in a stroller,” Biden said during her introductory remarks.“Since then, she has dedicated her life to pursuing justice and opportunity for all,” Jill Biden continued. “She is a partner to Joe, especially on issues like voting rights, and is proud to be the first, but not the last.”
Vice President Kamala Harris talks about the effect of pollution on her sight and taste remarks at the Prince George’s County Brandywine Maintenance Facility on Dec. 13, 2021, in Brandywine, Maryland.

SCOTUS case could limit unchecked power

The Supreme Court heard arguments in a case Monday that could potentially rein in the broad authority currently enjoyed by the Environmental Protection Agency — and several other federal bureaucracies, as well. What are the details?West Virginia v. EPA specifically wrestles with the scope of the environmental agency’s authority to regulate air pollution by mandating sweeping greenhouse gas emissions benchmarks for the country’s power plant industry.Since 2009, various presidential administrations have sought to curb carbon dioxide emissions from the country’s power plants by delegating overarching regulatory power to the EPA. In turn, unelected officials at the EPA set varying emissions limits on each state in an effort to slow global warming, in the process, raising the specter of incurring massive costs on the country’s power suppliers.Interestingly, at the time that this case was heard, no EPA rule was in place. That fact has alarmed environmental advocates who fear the conservat …

Putin’s oligarch pals lose billions

Billionaire pals of Vladimir Putin, including a pair swept up in phony claims of 2016 Trump-Russia collusion, are calling for peace in Ukraine as sweeping U.S. and international sanctions in reaction to Russia’s invasion threaten their fortunes.
Mikhail Fridman, a co-founder of Russia’s Alfa Bank, which was the subject of debunked claims of a secret backchannel to the Trump Organization during the 2016 presidential election, has voiced objections to Putin’s war against the neighboring country. Now, Oleg Deripaska, known for his prior business relationships with former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort and British ex-spy Christopher Steele and accused of assisting the Russian government’s influence operations worldwide, has piped up for peace as well.

Deripaska said on his Telegram page over the weekend, “Peace is very important! Negotiations need to start as soon as possible!”
Fridman was even more direct — and personal.
“I was born in Western Ukraine and lived there until I was 17. My parents are Ukrainian citizens and live in Lviv, my favorite city,” Fridman wrote in a weekend email to staff at his U.K. equity firm LetterOne. “But I have also spent much of my life as a citizen of Russia, building and growing businesses. I am deeply attached to Ukrainian and Russian peoples and see the current conflict as a tragedy for them both.”
Fridman continued, warning that the war is splitting countries with common bonds.
“I do not make political statements, I am a businessman with responsibilities to my many thousands of employees in Russia and Ukraine,” Fridman wrote. “I am convin …

Clarence and Ginni Thomas Embody Integrity in Public Service

|
Posted: Feb 28, 2022 12:01 AM

The opinions expressed by columnists are their own and do not necessarily represent the views of Townhall.com.

Editor’s Note: This column is co-authored with Ed Meese. The militant Left is attacking the principled public service of Justice Clarence Thomas again, this time by targeting his wife Ginni in a malicious attempt to delegitimize Supreme Court decisions that are faithful to the original meaning of the Constitution. The Left has targeted Clarence all his career. We all saw his promise when President Ronald Reagan appointed him as assistant secretary of education for civil rights in 1981, and then promoted him at the first opportunity, nominating him as chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) in 1982. The Reagan White House thought very highly of Clarence.  And in the next administration, we were thrilled to see President George H.W. Bush nominate this brilliant and principled young leader to be a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in 1990 to occupy the seat left vacant by another exceptional jurist, Judge Robert Bork.President Bush could not have done better when he later nominated Clarence to the U.S. Supreme Court. Justice Thomas has been the Rock of Gibraltar, steadfast in his principled commitment to originalism, that the Constitution should be interpreted according to the meaning of its words when the American people adopted them, and that judges must faithfully …

Ukraine parades captured Russian soldiers

Ukraine has paraded captured Russian soldiers in dozens of online videos as Moscow finally admitted its forces have sustained heavy losses after pictures showing bodies of Kremlin fighters emerged.

Footage posted online show tied up ‘demoralised and exhausted’ Russian prisoners of war captured after they failed to break through Ukrainian defences in Kyiv and Kharkiv over the weekend.

Several of the videos were posted on a Telegram channel set up on Saturday by Ukraine’s Interior Ministry called ‘Find Your Own’.

Many Russian troops claimed that they believed they were conducting training exercises in the border regions and did not know they were being sent to invade Ukraine.

Meanwhile Russia’s defence ministry has for the first time acknowledged suffering losses in the conflict after several bodies of the Kremlin’s servicemen emerged.

Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov gave no figures on Russia’s dead and wounded but said Sunday his country’s losses were ‘many times’ lower than Ukraine’s.

Meanwhile Ukraine’s defence ministry put the total number of Russian casualties at 5,300, though that number could not be independently verified and the number of casualties from Europe’s largest land conflict since World War II remained unclear amid the confusion.

Biden isolated in DE as Putin flexes nukes

Despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine continuing to escalate, President Joe Biden remains at his private estate in Delaware.Fox News reported that Biden remains at his private residence in Delaware and that the media is having difficulty making contact with the administration. On Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the Russian military command to put Russia’s nuclear deterrence forces on high alert. Putin blamed “aggressive” rhetoric from NATO members and thoroughgoing economic sanctions against Russia for why he chose to increase Russia’s preparedness to use nuclear weapons. Putin said, “Western countries aren’t only taking unfriendly actions against our country in the economic sphere, but top officials from leading NATO members made aggressive statements regarding our country.”“Senior officials of the leading NATO countries also allow aggressive statements against our country,” the Russian president continued, “Therefore I order the minister of defense and the chief of the general staff [of the Russian …
