McConnell: Will oppose Ketanji Jackson

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell said on Thursday that he will not vote to confirm Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court. While the Kentucky Republican said that he had an “open mind” going into the process, he said that after examining her “record and watching her performance this week,” he “cannot and will not” back confirming her to a lifetime appointment to the high court.

I went into the Senateu2019s consideration of Judge Jacksonu2019s nomination with an open mind.n nBut after studying the nomineeu2019s record and watching her performance this week, I cannot and will not support Judge Jackson for a lifetime appointment to our highest Court. — Leader McConnell (@Leader McConnell)

Last month, President Joe Biden nominated Jackson to fill the vacancy that will arise once Justice Stephen Breyer steps down later this year.Breyer is widely regarded as one of the court’s three liberal justices. Since Jackson is expected to be a member of the court’s left-leaning contingency, her addition to the court as Breyer’s replacement would not shake up the court’s current balance.McConnell previously voted against confirming Jackson to serve on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. GOP Sens. Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina voted in favor of c …

Coffee good for the heart

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
Drinking two or three cups of coffee every day may benefit the heart, according to studies being presented at the American College of Cardiology’s 71st Annual Scientific Session. The American College of Cardiology said Thursday that consumption of the caffeinated beverage is associated with a lower risk of heart disease and dangerous heart rhythms, as well as a longer lifespan. The trends also remained true for those with and without cardiovascular disease, with researchers saying the analyses assure that coffee is not linked to new or worsening heart disease. TEXAS STARBUCKS EMPLOYEE GOES VIRAL AFTER SECRETLY PASSING NOTE TO YOUNG WOMANUsing data from the UK BioBank database from over half a million people who were followed for at least a decade, researchers looked at varying levels of coffee consumption, ranging from a cup to more than six cups every day and the relationship with heart rhythm problems, cardiovascular disease, stroke and total heart-related deaths among those with and without cardiovascular disease. The patients were sorted according to how much coffee they reported drinking every day from zero to more than five. Overall, the researchers either found no impact or significant reductions in cardio …

Heart disease rose during pandemic

NEWYou can now listen to Fox News articles!
There was a “notable several-fold increase” in risk-associated deaths from heart disease and stroke during the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, according to researchers. In a study published Wednesday in the journal JAMA Network Open, authors from Kaiser Permanente, the Permanente Medical Group, the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) and the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine said that from 2019 to 2020 the estimated age-adjusted mortality rate increased by 15.9%, largely due to COVID-19 mortality,ALCOHOL-RELATED DEATHS JUMPED DURING COVID-19 PANDEMIC: STUDYRates of stroke and heart disease also increased by 4.3% and 6.4%, respectively. There were also greater increases in risk-associated deaths from heart disease and stroke among members of racial and ethnic minority groups, including a concerning highest increase among non-Hispanic Black individuals. In addition, they wrote that while the age-adjusted mortality rate from heart disease and stroke decreased between 2011 and 2019, the number of deaths due to the conditions increased in association with the rapid growth rate of the population aged 65 years and older. To reach these conclusions, the authors used age-adjusted mortality rates for heart disease and stroke, age-specific numbers of deaths and population estimates from 2011 to 2020 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) Wide-Ra …

Padres Star Rocks ‘LGB’ Shirt at Training

San Diego Padres third baseman Manny Machado sat down for an interview with a local San Diego news station on Thursday while wearing a “Let’s Go, Brandon” tee-shirt.
The All-Star third baseman took a few minutes out to talk to a local San Diego station, and when he appeared before the microphones, he was wearing President Biden’s least favorite tee-shirt (probably).
“Padres superstar Manny Machado repping a ‘Let’s Go Brandon’ shirt at Spring Training,” the station’s official Twitter account wrote.

Machado, a native of Miami, was not the only star to keep the “Let’s Go, Brandon” moniker alive this week. Kid Rock got the LGB chant going during a performance in Nashville.

The phrase, “Let’s go, Brandon,” went national in October of last year after NBC Sports reporter Kelli Stavast falsely claimed that a crowd of NASCAR fans was chanting “Let’s Go Brandon” following a victory by driver Brandon Brown. But video of the chanting clearly shows they were shouting, “F*ck Joe Biden!” …

Herschel Walker Kicked From Pres’s Council

Since the onset of the COVID pandemic, we have learned that the health of the American people involves a good deal of politics, too. And now, President Joe Biden has seemed to double down on that notion.
Recently, Biden asked Republican Senate candidates, former NFL running back Herschel Walker and Dr. Mehmet Oz, to step down from the President’s Council on Sports, Fitness & Nutrition or be taken off the Council or be fired.

Playing Politics With America’s Health?
Dr. Oz, who is a Senate candidate in Pennsylvania, said he received a letter from the Biden administration, saying that if he did not step down from the council by 6 p.m. Wednesday, he would be removed. According to CNN, Georgia Senate Candidate Herschel Walker received the same letter.
In a video, Dr. Oz lamented the seemingly political motivations for his removal from the council, saying, “It’s sad that he would politicize such an important issue like health. The doctor he should ask to resign is Dr. Fauci, for a multitude of obvious reasons.”
Both Oz and Walker were nominated for the Council by fo …

Kamala Says Why She Failed As ‘Border Czar’

Vice President Kamala Harris has received a lot of criticism over her performance as “border czar,” but, according to a new book, it is not a role she wanted.

An excerpt of “This Will Not Pass: Trump, Biden, and the Battle for America’s Future,” reported by Politico explores tension between Harris and President Biden over her role related to several Central American countries.

“Harris was resigned to the assignment,” the book says, adding that the vice president did not want to be referred to as “border czar” and “did not hesitate to chide Biden for characterizing her assignment in those terms.”

WNBA Star in Russian Jail is OK

The U.S. State Department said Wednesday that a U.S. Embassy official has visited with WNBA star Brittney Griner, who remains detained near Moscow, to check on her condition.
State Department spokesperson Ned Price told CNN the official found Griner “to be in good condition.” Price did not identify the official who had been granted consular access to Griner, something the United States had been demanding.
Griner was detained after arriving at a Moscow airport, reportedly in mid-February, after Russian authorities said a search of her luggage revealed vape cartridges that allegedly contained oil derived from cannabis, which could carry a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison.
Russian state news agency Tass reported last week that a court had extended Griner’s pretrial detention to May 19.
Price says the U.S. “will do everything we can to see that she is treated fairly throughout this ordeal.” Griner’s legal ordeal comes amid tension between Russia and the U.S. over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.
A member of a Russian state-backed prison monitoring group visited with Griner last week at the pretrial detention facility outside Moscow where she’s being held and said th …
