WH: Tension Between Biden & Staff Over Taiwan

President Joe Biden’s protective statements about Taiwan represent a salutary “tension” with standard U.S. policy formulations, according to a top White House official.
Biden has declared repeatedly that the United States would defend Taiwan from an attack by China, which regards the island democracy as an unruly province that must be brought under mainland Chinese Communist authority. Such rhetoric would seem to revise the historic U.S. policy of “strategic ambiguity” as to how the U.S. would respond to a Chinese Communist invasion, which White House officials have taken pains to reiterate in the wake of Biden’s remarks. However, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan implied that there is an inner logic to the varying statements.
“You’ve just highlighted a kind of tension within the policy,” Sullivan acknowledged during a Center for a New American Security event on Thursday after an interlocutor observed that Biden’s “‘I will defend’ …

CBS Skips Over Hunter’s Laptop in Ex-Wife Interview

Two days after ABC’s Good Morning America and co-host Amy Robach aired what our Tim Graham called an interview with Hunter Biden’s ex-wife Kathleen Buhle featuring “preposterously vague” questions and “carefully curated” answers, Thursday’s CBS Mornings sunk lower in ignoring topics such as Hunter’s infamous laptop and his alleged child out of wedlock.

Instead, Mason — who, like Robach, previously interviewed Hunter — focused on Hunter’s spiraling after his brother Beau’s death, his affair with said brother’s widow, and vague discussions about Hunter’s “finances.” Worse yet, co-host Tony Dokoupil falsely claimed that Hunter’s “become a frequent headline in the news.” 

As we’ve repeatedly documented, that claim holds zero weight when looking at the broadcast networks.

Co-host Nate Burleson hyped the interview at the beginning of the show: “The struggles of President Biden’s son Hunter are well documented, including by federal investigators. Now his ex-wife, Kathleen Buhle, is telling her story to Anthony Mason…She tells [him] writing the book has helped her let go.”

Dokoupil made his pants-on-fire claim in the lead-in to Mason’s interview:

We’re going to begin this hour with the ex-wife of President Biden’s son Hunter. She’s telling her story. Hunter Biden, as you know, has become a frequent headline in the news lately as investigators look into his business dealings abroad. Lawmakers Urge DOJ to Investigate Attacks on Pro Life Centers

A group of more than 100 GOP lawmakers co-signed a letter on Wednesday urging Department of Justice (DOJ) Attorney General Merrick Garland to investigate attacks on pro-life pregnancy centers and religious organizations as acts of domestic terrorism.The letter was sent after a recent surge in reported incidents against pro-life locations following the leak of a Supreme Court draft regarding a Mississippi case that could overturn Roe v. Wade and return decisions regarding abortion laws to individual states.“We write to express serious concerns over recent attacks targeting religious organizations and crisis pregnancy centers and request the Department of Justice respond with how its National Security Division plans to investigate these acts of domestic terrorism,” the letter, signed by 126 House Republicans, states.“In the past month, terrorists have targeted numerous pro-life crisis pregnancy centers — two of which culminated in the firebombing and destruction of property by the terrorist group Jane’s Revenge in Buffalo, NY, and Madison, WI,” the lawmakers added.The letter cited 14 specific attacks since May 3, ranging from a Catholic parish in Colorado to a pregnancy care center in New York. The Capitol Police debunked a serious accusation that Democrats have lodged against House Republicans.What is the accusation?Democrats have repeatedly claimed that Republican lawmakers led “reconnaissance” tours through the United States Capitol Complex the day before the riot on Jan. 6, 2021. Lawyers: Ghislaine’s Cellmate Offered Money to Kill Her

Convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell’s cellmate has made multiple claims of being offered money to kill Maxwell, lawyers for the Jeffrey Epstein accomplice say. “One of the female inmates in Ms. Maxwell’s housing unit told at least three other inmates that she had been offered money to murder Ms. Maxwell and that she planned to strangle her in her sleep,” Maxwell’s lawyers alleged in a court filing Wednesday. Biden Ambassador Linked to CCP Influence Groups

Jack Markell – President Joe Biden’s pick to serve as ambassador to the international Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development – has a long history of partnering with Chinese Communist Party foreign influence groups and has called on Americans to “welcome” and “understand” the communist regime.

Markell, a former Governor of Delaware, was also tapped by the White House to lead its Afghan refugee resettlement program “Operation Allies Welcome” in September before his ambassadorship was confirmed by the Senate.
In 2011, Markell penned an op-ed – “How We Can Use China’s Growth To Fuel American Jobs” – where he called for increased ties with the communist country.
“The Chinese growth that has long stirred fear among many Americans is increasingly opening up new opportunities for US workers and exporters,” Markell argued in the piece before calling on Americans to “welcome” and “understand” the brutal, communist regime:

China Invading Taiwan Would Unleash a New Wave of Economic Uncertainty, Political Turbulence – China could be planning its own Russia-style “special military operation” in Taiwan, an island that the Chinese Communist Party insists is Chinese territory, according to reports from China.This week, the Chinese Communist Party government declared that President Xi Jinping had laid the legal basis for the expansion of the Chinese military’s role in foreign countries. It means that the Chinese government could technically initiate invasions of foreign territory while claiming that the operations are not actually war.

Baby Formula Plant Halts Production for “Weeks”

Abbott is halting production of baby formula at a recently reopened Michigan facility due to damage from severe weather, the company said on Wednesday.
Severe thunderstorms and heavy rains have flooded parts of an Abbott baby formula plant in Sturgis, Michigan, according to the company. As a result, Abbott has stopped production of its EleCare baby formula. The company said cleanup efforts at the plant could delay the release of new baby formula from the Sturgis facility for weeks.
