21 Ask Biella: - "Can belief be regained?"

Podcast: https://Anchor.fm/Nobelia

"Can belief be regained?"ChoiceDear Hamma, yes absolutely it can be regained! Belief is a choice. Understanding, knowing, and accepting full responsibility for that choice is the first step. Once we let go of the myth that belief comes from outside ourselves, we are ready to reconnect to belief.

But, our friend belief is not fixed, just as you and I aren't fixed either. We change, we evolve, we adapt. Our companion and help-mate, belief, is the same, adapting and changing as life continues to evolve. When we reconnect to belief, just as when we reconnect to a long-lost friend, we never reconnect to the same exact friend, or to the same exact belief. People change, friends change, we change, beliefs change. They evolve and grow just like we do.
Internal ProgramsWe can think of beliefs as programs running on our internal computer. Like any program, they need to be updated. If not, they lose their usefulness, and we disconnect from them. But, belief is a category, just as programs are, and there are many of varying usefulness. We might stop using a program, either because it hasn't been updated, or a better one comes along. The exact same applies to beliefs.

To regain belief, we simply need to update, or replace. If we look closely at belief in general, not at any specific beliefs, and we ask ourselves: "What's in it for me? How does belief in general help me?" we find that belief as a whole is most useful. We believe for instance that life is worth living. That's a massively powerful and vitally important belief. Extremely useful.

But that belief is also a choice. It's a profound choice. One we need to assume full responsibility for, because it's a choice we make knowing that all sorts of things might happen. We choose to believe, because without that critical belief, we have nothing.

Understanding that belief is a choice, not a necessity, and that the choice to believe is a purely personal and internal matter allows us to look at all our own beliefs and also those that are common and decide if we wish to continue having them, or to install or uninstall them as Appropriate.

Honest Appraisal

To regain Belief, we can take the particular beliefs in question before the Courts of our Conscience, and make a case for them and against them. Put them to the test in that forum of uncompromising honesty. Here we determine if a belief has merit or not. If it's worth believing in or not. Here we determine the value of having the belief, not whether or not the belief is true or not. That's a separate issue. Many beliefs are worth having, even though they are not true or have a small chance of being true. Like the belief that I will win the lottery. This is a wonderful fact to me as long as I hold that ticket. It gives me joy and comfort. Yes, that disappears when the results are announced. But only for the short time until I purchase my next ticket. I know the realities, but I also know that my choice to believe is a self-created reality that makes me happy. That's enough for me.
Useful Even if UntrueSome beliefs we know to be untrue, but they too have value. Like the belief that someone is good and nice when they aren't. Like say a boss. A belief like this allows us to interact with them, allows us to stay positive, prevents us from doing something foolish, and helps us forbear as long as we need to. Sometimes a belief like this can actually change reality.

That boss, who really was not a good or nice person, can come to actually change because of the influence of our belief. Yes, it doesn't happen often, but it can and does happen. Here the belief was or is that they are a good and nice person. A belief in something that is untrue at the time, but useful and valuable to us.
Aware BeliefsTo regain belief, we need to determine if it's the same belief we wish to regain, or Belief in general. Either way, we need to look closely at what's involved. Make an inventory of usefulness and value. Determine our choices and options, and make a decision. Belief is closely associated with Awareness, as is everything really.

Typically we lose belief in something as we become more Aware. We see more, know more, understand more, and the belief no longer has merit. This does not mean that belief, as a category is no longer useful, it just means we need to change and update our beliefs. The key to regaining belief is to accept the reality of beliefs, which is that beliefs are not only a choice, but they are also flexible and ever-changing. Just as we are.

20 Ask Biella: - "Is it better to be realistic rather than being optimistic?"

Podcast: https://Anchor.fm/Nobelia

"Is it better to be realistic rather than being optimistic?"RealismDear Amirul, if we are truly realistic, we also have to be optimistic. :) Maybe it doesn't seem so, but let's look into it more closely.
By realistic, I take it you mean taking into account the negativity of the world. Or maybe you mean realistic in a personal sense. As in realistic about your prospects, the possibilities of improvement in your life. Or perhaps realistic about winning the lottery or something similar happening that is a low probability.

By optimistic, since it's an either/or choice, I assume you mean optimism is a perspective and attitude that ignores those smaller statistical chances of positivity or ignores the negativity that exists. But why does optimism have to be a distorted perspective? Why can't we be optimistic and realistic at the same time?
Positive HistoryLooking back at history, even history within memory of most alive today, we see matters have improved considerably. Not only that, but throughout history humans have continued to exist, to multiply, to thrive. Yes, there are periods in certain parts of the world when things were negative, like plagues, famine, wars, and so on. But, when we look at the whole of humanity, at all of history, we see that those instances are really exceptions. Statistically that is.
History does not record the vast preponderance of people that went about their daily business untouched by those negative happenings. It's not recorded because it doesn't stand out. For historians, that's boring. But for us, it's most exciting. Not only does it mean that most people most of the time were not subject to gross negative circumstances, but people continued, on the whole to learn, to grow, to add to the world, and to survive and multiply.

Humanity has continued to evolve, especially in societal and civilisation terms. Recently, as in the 20th and 21st century, that evolution, especially in wealth terms, has dramatically increased. Take the simple mobile phone. Everyone has one. In historic wealth terms, the mobile represents more wealth than people could access in a lifetime. It's a simple thing, but look how phenomenally it has changed our lives. We have connection, access. We can connect to anyone, we can access the knowledge of the world and the ages, not to mention entertainment, that was otherwise inaccessible to our ancestors.

The internet, and its connectivity is a wealth that is immeasurable. Because now, in the 21st century, the bulk of humanity, for the first time ever, has access to equal opportunity to learn. It doesn't really matter how rich you are, where you are born, your skin colour, ethnicity or nationality, with a little effort, pretty much anyone can access this wealth of possibility and opportunity.
This is the reality of the world we live in now. The reality is that on the whole, things keep getting better. The rate of improvement is accelerating dramatically. Every day, every minute, every second really, somewhere, someone is improving the world in some way. And with the internet, that improvement gets to the entire world. It doesn't just stay local, like it used to in the old days. This ever-improving reality is a positivity we have to include when we are being realistic. We are on an ever-improving positive trajectory. That's the fact of the matter when we look at the overall situation.
Personal Optimism

But what about personally, individually? We might look around at our own personal individual circumstances and see little hope or possibility of change. But then again, look back even ten or twenty years, and look how different things were locally. Improvements, via technology, connectivity, the spreading knowledge and learning, is reaching everywhere, even in the most remote places. Something that's real and happening, something massively optimistic.Still you might say, the chances of me winning the lottery are extremely small, or of something life-changing like that happening. But I say, when being utterly realistic, what you have IS a chance. You 100% have a chance of something possibly happening, as opposed to a certainty that you have no chance at all. That's a real fact. And so, again, it's something to be optimistic about. Having a chance, no matter how tiny, is infinitely better than definitely having no hope at all.
Being realistic is thus being optimistic also. If we think about it, that is Life. Life is optimistic and realistic. Life persists, thrives, continues on, prospers. Life wants to live. This is realistic optimism. If we know the reality, and still want to continue living, that's us being realistic and optimistic. Being truly realistic means we are also simultaneously optimistic. For me they are the same. All we have to do is look at matters from an Overview Perspective to see the bigger picture, that's where realism and positivity merge into our realistic optimism. And well, to quote the Young Man:

"When in Doubt, Zoom Out."

Review: Awakening from Anxiety: A Spiritual Guide to Living a More Calm, Confident, Courageous Life

Awakening from Anxiety: A Spiritual Guide to Living a More Calm, Confident, Courageous Life Awakening from Anxiety: A Spiritual Guide to Living a More Calm, Confident, Courageous Life by Connie L. Habash
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

A most excellent book. Connie brings a fresh and profound perspective shift on dealing with anxiety and transforming it into spirituality. A most excellent approach which is deeply useful and valuable. Enjoyable and fun, yet deals with the real issues at hand, but in a way that's easy to manage and relatable. Connie knows her subject intimately as well as those who deal with it and how exactly to go about remedying matters. A great read.

I had shared the book with a client who has dealt with anxiety all their life, I asked them to copy-paste from the book what they found useful and valuable. They ended up copy-pasting 90% of the book, so powerful was it for them. A most revealing testimonial.

17 Ask Biella: - "What is the biggest motivation of our life?"

Podcast: https://is.gd/xhgjbV

"What is the biggest motivation of our life?"Life-MotivationDear Amirul, Motivation varies so much from individual to individual and if we examine why, it seems random. However, and since you ask what our motivation is, that's an entirely different matter. Temporary motivations, no matter how long they might last, are different to Life-Motivation.

What's the difference? Regular motivation typically applies to its field of influence only, whereas Life-motivation applies to absolutely everything we do. Like for instance the innate motivation we have to be happy. This motivation can become distorted when we latch onto mis-beliefs such as ego, attention, superiority, dominance and so on. Those might seem like they can lead to happiness, and many mistakenly believe so, but they are counter-productive in the longer term. They only seem like a way to achieve happiness because of ignorance and unawareness.
All About AwarenessThis brings us to the biggest motivation of our lives, which is the Development and Enhancement of Awareness. I will even go as far as saying that Developing and Enhancing Awareness is the point and purpose and Meaning of Life.

When we look closely at unhappiness, misery, cruelty, abuse, any kind of badness, what lies at the root of it all? Unawareness. Every time. On the other end, when we look at why we aren't happy, it's the same reason, we don't know, we are unaware of what to do to be happy, or happier. The solution across all aspect of happiness, to reduce misery and increase happiness lies in being more Aware. When we are specifically motivated to be more Aware, this changes our lives considerably.
Bigger PictureBeing More Aware, connects us to More. More options, more choices, more opportunities, more possibilities, more of everything. We also connect to less, as in less risk, less stress, less trouble, less misery, especially that created by our own lack of awareness.Once we shift to Developing and Enhancing our Awareness as a Life-motivation, something extraordinary happens. Something that is easy to verify once we make that shift, but has to be tested to be proven to oneself. But it's a most worthwhile effort to make, to test this remarkable fact-of-life. When we become immersed in Awareness, when Awareness becomes our prime motivation, the motivation to motivate motivations, our root motivation, our biggest motivation, if we pay Attention, we notice that everything in life seems to be geared to assisting us in this motivation.

It's a truly remarkable Awareness. Which soon develops into an Understanding. Regardless of how or why it is so. If we look at the world and what happens in our lives from this Perspective we soon notice that everything we encounter in some way assists us in the Development and Enhancement of our Awareness.
Makes Sense

Things that didn't Make Sense, now start to Make Sense. Making Sense of Life is a profound shift-of-being, one that leads to more and more happiness, and to More, much much More. The more Life makes Sense, the more wonder and marvel we connect to. Once we connect Awareness to everything, we see how everything assists us in Developing and Enhancing our Awareness.Once we start with the motivation of Awareness, that motivation, and the Awareness that results, leads to more and more motivations adding to our original motivation. Everything starts to connect. We connect to the bigger picture, the bigger picture and life itself connects to us personally, intimately. We find stuff happening that is so exquisitely just exactly what is Appropriate for the Development and Enhancement of our Awareness and what we need to learn and develop. It's truly amazing and wonderful.

Not always nice, because sometimes we are foolish and stubborn and reluctant to learn. Then life will assist us on gaining that Awareness we need in not-so-pleasant ways. Here it is that making the Motivation of Awareness our Prime Motive, our Life-Motivation, helps inordinately. Because when we recognise the Grand Scheme of it all, then we stop fighting the Learning, we learn to recognise when we are resisting learning, we learn to recognise the forces of life, and how to use them, connect to them, and why and where they lead us, guide us, are beneficial to us.Self-AwarenessHaving the Development and Enhancement of Awareness as our biggest motivation of course includes where it makes the biggest difference: Self-Awareness. The more and more we become Self-Aware, the more and more we connect to the Magic of Being. We soon come to realise, become Aware, that we are much More than we ever believed, and indeed, we come to realise that the World does not work the way we think it does. This includes ourselves. We don't work the way we think we do either. As our Awareness grows, we realise there is so much More to us that we ever imagined.Everything starts to connect more and more with more Awareness. Which connects us to More. All beginning with the realisation that indeed our biggest Motivation is Awareness, the Developing and Enhancing of Awareness. An Awareness in itself that profoundly changes us, and leads to profound shifts in Motivation itself.

16 Ask Biella: - "Healthy wealthy happy and free which is more important?"

Podcast: https://Anchor.fm/Nobelia

"Healthy wealthy happy and free which is more important?"
Dear Adwoa, I would have to say free. Let me just throw wealth out right away. There are plenty people who are not wealthy who are happy, and many miserable wealthy people. It's a strange belief really, that we need wealth to be happy, or that it's important in some way, especially since the majority in the world do just fine without it.

Health falls into a similar category, although certainly it can make a much more impactful difference. It very much depends what we mean by health. Health has considerable variation, as in levels of fitness, energy and so on. When it truly matters is if there is unhealth, illness, disease, or injury. These certainly matter, as they affect us directly, physically, and are not a matter of perspective or attitude.

Which brings us to happy and free. Here I would say free is the most important, and the most important of all four. My reason is as follows. One could not be free and still be happy. Same as we can be happy even if not wealthy or fully healthy.

But, if we are free, this to me means we would be free from poverty, free from lack of health, free from restriction, concern, worry, limitation. Freedom thus to me automatically means happiness. Freedom means any limitations on our happiness are removed. While we can be happy, not being free, healthy or wealthy, our happiness will still have restrictions on it. There is still some room for improvement. But, if we are free, then our happiness is unrestricted.

To be free one would be free also from desires, and as such wealth ceases to be a factor. Wealth matters not at all to those free from inappropriate desire. (We still need appropriate desires, such as the desire to extend our Awareness for instance, and the desire to be free.)

Freedom extends us, enables us, opens possibilities and opportunities we otherwise might not even imagine, and thus, when free, the range and scope of our happiness can extend into areas such as rapture, bliss, and elation. Freedom is by far the most important to me.

Today is the Day for Self-Change

“Today is the day we'll look back on as 'in the day.' Later never comes. Today is the day to plant our Tree of Real Self. Today is the day we'll look back on and say:
'Back in the day, I took action, I did something huge, even though to some it seemed small. I planted the seed of my Real Self. But, I did more, back in the day. I watered that seed, tended it, nourished it. As seedling grew to sapling, I nurtured my Real Self daily, constantly, never allowing any opportunity for my treeling to cease growing through neglect. I persisted, while my Roots of Real Self grew deep. Then, back on a Day, I found my Tree of Real Me no longer needed myself, and I became my Tree of Real. Yes, back in the Day, I DID something... Now, every day is the Day of Real Me.'” - The Young Man
