Stormtroopers 365

Probably old news to some and nothing terribly educational, but this morning I was intrigued by the creativity in Stéfan Le Dû's Stormtroopers 365 Flickr collection — a daily shot of Stormtroopers. The collection concluded on April 4, 2010. Below are a few of these.

These kinds of activities are, in my mind, what keep the creative senses fresh, sharp, and well-rounded.

Vimeo Releases Embeddable HTML5 Video Player:

Adrianne Jeffries, writing for ReadWriteWeb:

Vimeo is releasing a 'universal player' today that allows user to watch embedded Vimeo videos on mobile devices including the iPhone and iPad using the video playback capability built into the new HTML5 standard.

Pictos @font-face Icon Font

Pictos @font-face Icon Font:

I've not used it yet, so I can't weigh in on the pros and cons. But Drew Wilson's concept seems ingenious: Instead of image-based application icons, why not use icons that are rendered as an @font-face web font and can scale indefinitely?

jQuery Mobile Framework

jQuery Mobile Framework:

Scheduled to be released "late 2010", this cross-platform, cross-device UI system looks really promising. The design mockups are looking fantastic, too.

Tempus Fugit

Tempus Fugit:

Former office mate Rob Foster, describing a task management system he's been proving for several years:

Here's where this system really diverges with the others. Those systems rely on review. You have to refer to them throughout the day as you do things. Some of them are time-based and have date-related features but still require you to go back to them to adjust the system, close things, etc. They require MANAGEMENT. Any system which requires you to remember and manage your...

Angry Birds Sells 6.5 Million Units, Earns $4.5 Million in Revenue:

I've contributed $5 to that pile of cash. Who knew a few birds, some pigs, and a slingshot could be so much fun? Clearly, the game's developer, Helsinki-based Rovio, knew it could be.

The Origins of ABC:

I Love Typography's exhaustive, illustrated overview of our written language. I've not yet read the entire piece (saved to Instapaper for now), but it's clear this is worth finishing.

Just How Popular are List Posts?

Just How Popular are List Posts?:

Collis Ta'eed, after mentioning list posts garner almost seven times as much as his site's traffic mainstay of reviews, provides this wise observation:

The reality is that list posts don't build a great blog. The problem with lists themselves is that they tend to lack a voice. When a publication has no voice, there's really nothing to differentiate it from another publication that publishes similar lists.

Rather I think of them as traffic traps to catch...
