Jason Grigsby: CSS Media Query for Mobile is Fool's Gold
This is an interesting piece that debates the merits of using CSS media queries to build mobile-optimized experiences, tackling Ethan Marcotte's influential article on adaptive design, "Responsive Web Design".
For the most part, I agree with Jason's arguments about the context of mobile and hidden/unused files downloading in the background. These same two points are what led me to argue against handheld CSS in my book, and they remain v...
Phone Wallpaper by Kate Bingaman-Burt
For iPhone 4 and non-iPhone 4. Not your typical wallpaper. Originally created for the covers of Kate's magazines, which contain "daily drawings of crud that I buy."
25 HTML5 Tips & Features
This is a good overview of HTML5. On the whole, doesn't HTML5 feel like one massive code release that fixes all the Flash and Javascript hacks we've used over the years, e.g. the placeholder attribute for inserting hints into input fields?
CSS3 Playground
Explore CSS3 radius, box-shadow, text-shadow, and transforms in a WYSIWYG environment. See Mike Plate's notes on the development of it.

Journey Through Canyons
I've hiked or backpacked three of the four canyons featured in Metron's (no name given) film, Journey Through Canyons. Surprisingly, the Grand Canyon is the only one I've not seen in person.
Be sure to check the Flickr photoset showing the DSLR gear used to create the film: Canyons, Making Of.
Diagonal CSS Sprites
Aaron Barker describes a technique for preventing neighbor images from appearing by placing the images in a sprite diagonally, rather than horizontally or vertically. The tradeoff is file size, but Aaron argues the diagonal arrangement is a more reliable approach should the original container change size.
Tumblr's Identity Crisis
Following a very positive review, Khoi Vinh describes why he's not a Tumblr user:
As much as I admire it, though, I can't bring myself to use it. Partly this is because one of its key ideas, the conspicuous omission of comments, is a deal breaker for me. I really value the comments that I get here on Subtraction.com and can't imagine blogging without the continually rewarding intimacy of that feedback loop….
My biggest complaint, by far, has bothered me for some...

Using Magic Trackpad With a Windows PC
Mine is probably headed back to Apple, but if you're a Windows user missing out on the test-and-return fun, here's your fix.
Google Multiple Sign-In
This new preferences setting will allow users to sign in to multiple accounts for Gmail, Google Calendar, Google Sites, Google Reader, Google Voice, App Engine, and Google Code. I'm not seeing it in my account yet, but as with other Google upgrades, it'll likely show up soon.
With out seeing the integration, I'm unsure if this will negate my need for Mailplane, which offers multiple sign-in—and is about the only reason I'm using it.
