FormBox: jQuery/CSS3 Drop-Down Menu with Integrated Forms

FormBox: jQuery/CSS3 Drop-Down Menu with Integrated Forms:

Most common use case for something like this is probably hiding login fields inside a drop-down (or flyout) menu, e.g. Twitter.com and other sites.

Kindle 3 First Impressions

Kindle 3 First Impressions:

Marco Arment, lead developer of Tumblr and Instapaper:

The iPad can do a lot more, but people who claim that it's 'killing' the Kindle are clearly not Kindle owners. Buy an iPad if you want to browse the internet, play music or video, check your email, or launch flaming peas at zombies.

But when you want to settle down and read a book, the Kindle is a much better choice.

TotalFinder

TotalFinder:

For me, the Mac OS X Finder has been broken since 10.0 was released. It's a hassle to move files from one location to another.

I've been using this TotalFinder plug-in for a couple weeks now to add much-needed tabs to the Finder. I'm discovering, however, that tabs aren't the right UI pattern for what I need. Instead, Transmit-esque, side-by-side panes would probably be more efficient than tabs for file management. After all, this is what I've been doing for years now anyway when ...

Self-Employment, 12 Months Later

In just two short weeks I'll complete my first full year since rejoining the ranks of the self-employed. What a ride it's been — exciting, inspiring, tiring, challenging.

As you may recall, I published four objectives for my business shortly after making the leap. What follows is an evaluation of my performance for each of these objectives. Scores are based on the U.S. education system, with 'A' being the highest score and 'F' being the lowest. The '+' and '-' characters add granularity to...

Meet the New Twitter.com

Meet the New Twitter.com:

Skip to 1:10 in the video to view the new interface. Short version: It looks to be quite similar to Twitter for iPad, with a two-pane experience for viewing tweets on the left and details for each tweet on the right.

I still interact with Twitter primarily through Twitter.com — I know, I'm an anomaly among tech folk (but not among the average user) — so this will my interface when it's released in a few weeks. I'm positive the new design has been developed under the w...

10K Apart Winners Announced

10K Apart Winners Announced:

The grand prize winner? Sinuous, an addictive game requiring you miss red dots and touch green ones with a comet-like character. Other entries included a piano keyboard, a Space Invaders knockoff, and a screenshot notation app.

And if you're wondering how all of these were done with just 10 KB of code, note that submissions could include the jQuery, Prototype, and Typekit libraries without counting against the final 10 KB.
