NYT: No Plans for Smaller iPhone
Miguel Helft and Nick Bilton:
[C]ontrary to published reports, Apple is not currently developing a smaller iPhone, according to people briefed on Apple's plans who requested anonymity because the plans are confidential.
Apple's engineers are currently focused on finishing the next version of the iPhone, which is likely to be similar in size to the current iPhone 4, said one of the people.
Among all the press I've read the last few days regarding a smaller iPhone, there's been too little mention of the following, also stated in the article:
More important, a phone with a smaller screen would force many developers to rewrite their apps, which Apple wants to avoid, the person said.
That seems reason enough to leave the screen alone for now.

AisleOne's Antonio Carusone: A Backup System
I would imagine this is as thorough and redundant as a backup system gets. 6 copies of vital data, 3 copies of unimportant data — spread across Backblaze, Dropbox, iDisk, and a few local drives. There's a nifty diagram, even.
I'm also in the process of assembling a backup system. I went with Crashplan instead of Backblaze because of the option to have a seeded backup drive (scroll down) shipped to your home for the initial backup. Additionally, I purchased a refurbished Airport Extreme to which I'll attach a Western Elements 2 TB drive. Finally, I ordered a G-technology 2 TB drive exclusively for backing up my video files from my Canon 7D.
We'll see how it works out when I've got everything connected in a week or two.
The [Project] Food Guide Pyramid
Trent Walton, sharing his reasons for taking on a project, formatted like a food guide pyramid:
Passion & belief in a cause is easily a sufficiently motivating factor, as are bills that need to be paid. The way I see it— if you're into it, do it. Just be sure the next gig offsets the previous one's deficiencies. Do 10 consecutive jobs solely for the paycheck, and you very well may find yourself out of whack….
When a job is done, we're left with experience, new skills, and a sharpened perception. Do work that you enjoy so you can be good at what you love. Frank [Chimero] summed that up nicely by saying:
'Daft Punk got to record the Tron soundtrack because they'd already recorded the Tron soundtrack.'
The King of Apple Talk Radio
Fortune writer Philip Elmer-DeWitt, interviewing the article's subject, Dan Benjamin:
In stark contrast to the rapid-fire, deadline-driven pace of most cable news and drive-time radio, Benjamin gives the impression that his guests have all the time in the world — which in a sense they do. Any subject that he and his co-hosts can't dispose of in 60 to 90 minutes is simply pushed forward to next week's show.
And what co-hosts they are!
'I'm fascinated by these guys — the pundits, the experts — who think about the stuff I care about every day. And I'm lucky enough to talk to each of them for an hour every week,' says Benjamin. 'For me, it's a dream come true.'

MORE/REAL Stylus Cap on Kickstarter
Replace the cap on your favorite pen, turn it into a touchscreen stylus. Continue to use the pen. Best of both worlds. $15,000 and climbing.
(At some point, all of us are going to run out of discretionary funds for supporting Kickstarter projects, I would imagine. But clearly, we're not there yet.)
Twelve South MagicWand
Combines your Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Trackpad into a sturdy, single unit. I think the big benefit here is not desktop use but lap use. I'm still not sold on the Magic Trackpad in general (see my review), but I could see myself using the MagicWand in something like a home theater setup.
Steve Jobs Pitches iPad on Dragons' Den
Had the iPad been an actual pitch to investors, it might have gone something like this.

DODOcase's BOOKback for iPhone 4
It would have been nice to have one of these on the back of my phone last week. Now it'll serve as a cosmetic cover-up. Ordered.
Hiring: Partner/Engineer at Kinio
A few years ago I invited Benjamin Reece and a few other New Orleans locals to dinner. Benjamin, relatively unknown at the time, later when on to produce Fifty People One Question and rose to indie filmmaker stardom almost overnight.
Now, Benjamin Reece is the co-founder of a new startup called Kinio. It's like a Netflix for independent filmmakers and is backed by Series AA funding. He needs a co-founder who can commit to 7 weeks of telecommute work.
Some details from the listing on Authentic Jobs:
We are looking to contract the right engineer to build a very small MVP (minimum viable product) over 6-7 weeks for internal beta and additional traction. We would be looking to cut the check and pull the trigger March 18th-20th.
No worries on scope creep, we can't go over the 7 week limit on our end. Worst case, it's a fun, short-term consulting gig on a cool product.
Looking forward to where this could lead.
I think you'd really enjoy working with Benjamin and Kinio. And if it's as successful as his other ventures, you're in for an enjoyable ride.
Let's Swap a Colosseo Print
Let's Swap is place where artists and designers can swap art for free. I'm lucky enough to have my Colosseo print featured as this week's swap.
Here's how it works: You submit something you've created — a poster, an illustration, a book — and if I like it, I'll swap for one of my prints. Four 8" x 10" cropped prints and two 16" x 24" full-size prints are available for swapping. (They've asked me to determine which of the swaps will receive a full-size print.)
This should be fun. Looking forward to seeing your submissions roll in.
