Cosmonaut, a Wide-Grip Stylus for Touch Screens
Glif makers Dan Provost and Tom Gerhardt are at it again with another Kickstarter project, this time for a wide-grip stylus that feels more like a dry erase marker rather than a pen:
Writing or drawing on the iPad feels nothing like using a pen or pencil. For one, tablets are ideal for low fidelity sketching. Also, it is pretty awkward to rest your palm on the screen of the device because it throws off the capacitive detection. Writing on a tablet feels like writing on a dry erase board: fast, simple, low fidelity.
They're also testing a new funding model by choosing a Radiohead-esque, pay-as-you-wish approach. As long as the $50,000 goal is met, any pledge $1 or more will be accepted. But there's a catch. Only the first 3,000 backers will be accepted in this first run, requiring backers to pledge at least $17 to fund the project. (As of this posting, 618 people have pledged $9,444 for an average of $15.28 per backer.)

Think Quarterly, a Google Magazine
This is some lovely design, both the site and the magazine. The 'why' behind the initiative from Matt Brittin, Managing Director (Google UK/Ireland):
At Google, we often think that speed is the forgotten 'killer application' – the ingredient that can differentiate winners from the rest. We know that the faster we deliver results, the more useful people find our service.
But in a world of accelerating change, we all need time to reflect. Think Quarterly is a breathing space in a busy world. It's a place to take time out and consider what's happening and why it matters.

The Mystery of Microsoft IE6countdown.com
Bruce Lawson:
If Microsoft is serious about wishing to persuade users and corporates to upgrade, it should address the reasons why people have not yet upgraded….
IE9 is only available for Windows 7 and Windows Vista users—so users of Windows XP, the most-used operating system in the world, cannot leave IE6 for IE9.
Ceaser: CSS Animation Tool
Speaking of year 12, this is brilliant. Preview different easing defaults, adjust the bézier curve if you like, and then grab the CSS.

Method & Craft: Combining Vector Shapes in Photoshop
If you could irrationally summarize my 12 years as a professional designer, it would probably be something like this:
Years 1-8: Voraciously consume conceptual knowledge, skills, and techniques
Years 9-11: Focus heavily on conceptual knowledge and soft skills
Year 12: Return to learning some new skills and techniques
Phil Coffman's tutorial is a perfect fit for year 12. Also see Gerren Lamson's Unique Vector Shapes in Illustrator.

Smart Cover for iPad 1
Dan Provost:
I wondered if it would somehow be possible to retrofit the original iPad to utilize the Smart Cover. Turns out, it's actually pretty simple.
