Broken Heart

My heart
Has been broken
So many times,
That it doesn’t
break anymore;
And even if it does,
It doesn’t feel it
anymore:
It just hears the sound
of shattered love,
And stands strong
as the storm passes,
as the eyes shed its last tears;
And then,
Beats its way slowly
through the chaos,
And moves past the lane
of broken memories…

I Choose You

Perhaps we were destined to meet
But I chose to fall in love with you.
Let Destiny play its games,
I am not afraid any more.
Fate can try all its tricks,
But it can never alter my choice.
Amid all adversities,
I choose you still.
Even if I lose this fight
Against the world,
Even though I know not
What the future holds…
But I will always choose
To fall in love with you.

I’m NOT a Girl

I’m not a girl in society’s eyes:
I don’t possess any womanly qualities
That would make me an elegant lady;
I talk too loud,
We aren’t supposed to;
I walk with my head held high,
We are supposed to hang it low;
I laugh out loud,
Instead of a shy giggle;
I’m shameless,
I don’t blush too often;
I walk fast, too fast for a girl,
We should walk slow, with measured steps;
I don’t put make-up on my face,
Nor do I drown myself in ornaments;
Girls must have long flowing hair,
But I love it short and fair.
I don’t qualif...

An Old Beggar Woman

She was old and haggard,
A little sad and perhaps a bit tired;
Draped in a white cotton saree:
Torn and dirty, barely covering her body…
Yet she managed to smile:
Smile at the ones who took pity
And offered her a penny;
She didn’t nag anyone for too long,
Nor frown at the ones who just ignored;
But simply made her way to others:
Balancing her slightly bent body on an old stick,
She hopped and tagged along,
As the train ran at its full speed.
Staring through the hollow ruins of her eyes,
And smiling at her own...

A Good Girl

I struggled to be a good girl:
To my family
To the society
To the street dogs.
I woke up early
Prepared the tea,
Woke everyone up
And made the breakfast.
I readied myself for my job
And put the lunch into my bag.
I walked a few distance
To save a little money,
And fed the dogs
As I passed them in a hurry.
To my colleagues
I behaved nicely,
Although some were rude
And some forever angry.
I declined the offer
To my promotion:
It’d take me to another city,
But I can’t leave my family.
I rejected the men
Who were willing,...
