A Proud Moment at the Tagore Hill || Reminiscence from Ranchi

Rabindranath Tagore is not just a poet, but an emotion for the Bengalis. And rummaging through his songs and poetry, we often feel proud to sense his presence within us.

Tagore is the harp of our soul…

So, when we heard that there is actually a place dedicated to Tagore at Ranchi, we couldn’t hold our excitement to visit the spot.

Me at Tagore Hill

Famously known as the Tagore Hill and situated at the top of a few hundred stairs, stands the spot highly admired by Rabindranath Tagore...

Mannered Monkeys! || Reminiscence from Ranchi

Monkeys are known to be the most mischievous of all creatures. Their naughtiness surpasses even the notorious being. But at Ranchi’s famous Dasham Falls, we stood witness to some well-mannered monkeys.

And we screamed out of sheer astonishment!

The monkeys, even in their wildly restless spirit, were surprisingly well-behaved. Perhaps living on trees around a prominent tourist spot has trained them well. And every single person who set their eyes on the monkeys couldn’t hold back their amaz...

Sunset by the Lake on a Boat! || Reminiscence from Ranchi

Ranchi sure has a range of eclectic experiences to offer its visitors. But the sunset by the lake on a boat certainly takes the cake.

And it wasn’t even a planned experience either!

We just happened to visit the Patratu Lake at the end of our journey one afternoon. We had no idea there was a space for boating activities there. It was only when we were casually standing there, leisurely looking at the shimmering water, that we saw the boats riding through it.

And we spontaneously decided...

Jungle Safari around Ranchi || Reminiscence from Ranchi

Forests are the reason why I go on long tours, leaving everything behind in a heartbeat. The trees call out to me, as if I’m one of their own. Nature beckons me as if we belong with one another.

So, it’s no wonder that I cherished my time at Ranchi riding among the forest as we swung from one tourist spot to another.

Being situated high up on the mountain range, the trees here are a little different than what we are used to seeing. And, it was a major thrill journeying through a forest wit...

Star Gazing on a Dark Night || Reminiscence from Ranchi

Stargazing on a quiet night is never an option for the city people like us.

For, we never have clear, dark skies here to hold as a backdrop against the stars. Pollution and city lights have rendered it with a hue that no longer entertains the colour black. Hence, stars fail to find the perfect background to shine its way into our land.

But here at Netarhat, away from the city lights, amid the dark atmosphere of the Bungalow and the frequent power cuts… we gazed deep into the black skies an...

A Tragic Tale of Love: Magnolia Sunset Point || Reminiscence from Ranchi

Love has always been a taboo in our society. There are endless stories, both in history and mythology, where love destroyed the lovers because society couldn’t accept them.

Beginning with the spiritual saga of the divine love between Radha and Krishna to the timeless tales of Heer Ranjha, Laila Majnu, Romeo Juliet and several others who came before and after them, there is no dearth of such stories where lovers aren’t allowed to unite.

The Magnolia Sunset Point at Netarhat stands witness t...

The Ghostly Encounter: Dak Bungalow at Netarhat || Reminiscence from Ranchi

We spent the night of our arrival at Netarhat. A Dak Bungalow was arranged for the stay.

If you are even a little familiar with the horror genre, you would know that the setting of such stories usually involves a Dak Bungalow. The Bungalows of such tales are typically abandoned, being situated at a far off place, cut off from local habitats. In short, the perfect atmosphere for ghosts to exist.

Well, our Dak Bungalow wasn’t much different either.

It was away from the locality, almost ab...

Dhuska Delight: The Local Cuisine || Reminiscence from Ranchi

The aroma that greeted us as we stepped on the soils of Ranchi is that of the city’s famous cuisine.

Dhuska, as the locals call it, feels like the combination of the Bengali Malpoa and the South Indian Sambar Vada. But its taste surely surpasses them both.

The cuisine is mainly found at the roadside stalls, prepared with great care by the street vendors. Ripped off the glamour of the fancy restaurants, it’s the raw feeling that perhaps adds a different flavour to it.

Dhuska served Hot!...

Reminiscence from Ranchi: A Place to Remember

Amid all the chaos of a busy lifestyle, taking a vacation once in a while is like music to the soul.

So, we set along a bunch of tourists to visit Ranchi and enjoy some leisure time together.

It’s no secret that the first thing which comes to our mind when we hear ‘Ranchi’ is the mental asylum there. And honestly speaking, I was a little worried too. I had high doubts that I might end up being locked away in one of their rooms. For, heaven knows I’m the craziest person on planet earth!

A Year it Took

A year it took
For everything to break down
Into a crumble of nothingness…

A year it took
To tear away the gleam
In our eyes;
A year it took
To blind the spark
That we felt in our heart;
A year it took
To strangle the love
And stop caring;
A year it took
For the tears to dry
And move on;
A year it took
To forget everything
We had between us;
A year it took
For us to drift apart
And tear ourselves down;
A year it took
To swallow our emotions
And get on with life.

A year it took
The moments to fade
Into memories;
A year it ...
