The Last Wish

The trial of Karan Agarwal went longer than expected. The convict was accused of murdering his own brother, Rohit Agarwal. Apparently, Rohit was blackmailing Karan for a long time and draining out his money, before Karan finally decided to settle the scores with him forever. The call and message records that the Police produced confirmed the case of blackmailing, although what exactly was the reason behind the blackmail still remained unknown.

At the court, Karan neither confessed his crime n...

The Ghost Villa

“At least don’t leave me alone,” cried Tinku as his friends proceeded towards the door.

“Why will we stay with you?” Raka scoffed. “You are one who is punished.”

“But…but… I’m afraid,” Tinku was on the verge of tears.

“You are a ghost!” laughed Rana. “You are supposed to scare others, not get frightened yourself!”

“But, I don’t want to scare anyone,” yelled Tinku.

“Well, that’s your call,” Tublu retorted. “But as per the rules of the Boo Headquarters, you aren’t supposed to return...

The Unwelcomed Guest

I stared at the neatly written letter in my hand, my mind racing so fast that the words blurred together and no longer made any sense. Just a few lines, but enough to turn my world upside down.

It read:

Dear Sasanko,

Hope you are doing well. Last week when I visited your circus at the Bhairav Park, I felt your team was running short of something. When I returned to my forest bungalow, I knew exactly what it was. So, here I am sending you my precious possession. Please take good care of ...

The Joy of Being Alive

Ahona Das was a name everybody knew and a girl whom all were jealous of. She was famous for embarking on all kinds of spine-chilling adventures and hence was the cause of envy for many as she did things people only dreamt of doing. At thirty, she was still unmarried, living alone in her posh three-bedroom flat, enjoying her single life exactly the way she wanted. When her family, friends and relatives attempted to cut her wings by trying to chain her feet to the fetters of marriage, she didn’t a...

The Anonymous Burglar

It was getting late enough to be worried. Mithu once again stepped out in the open, craning her neck to look as far down the street as possible. Except for a drenched street dog that was lying down miserably near the gate, there was not a soul to be seen anywhere. It had been raining consecutively for three days. Rain water had puddled under the lamp post and in every little pothole of the broken street. A breeze ruffled the nearby trees and a few twigs fell down and broke. Thunder rumbled in th...

The Hazarduari Palace is the greatest tourist attraction of Murshidabad and people from far and wide visit the palace bearing Italian architecture to lose themselves in the mystic aura of majestic royalty.

Murshidabad—A Historical Adventure! || Part 5: House of Jagat Seth

The House of Jagat Seth is famous for the underground museum, secret passages and the mysterious magic mirror.

Walking down through a fleet of stairs that leads underground, there is a museum where various “pandulipi” or manuscripts written on “tal pata” or the leaves of the palm tree, are preserved under the glass shelves, along with a huge piece of alum, a large Chinese vase, some old gold and silver coins and ancient notes, plates, bowls, spoons and other valuable utensils, bangles, hand-f...

Murshidabad—A Historical Adventure! || Part 4: Katgola Bagan

Originally called the “Katgolap bagan”, deriving its name from the breed of rose named “Kat Golap”, this marvellous tourist spot is constructed on a huge patch of land and is really worth visiting.

Near the entrance stands the white marble statue of Michael Angelo, an Italian painter who through his paintings depicted the true dirty nature of the Italian politics prevalent during the era. So, the rulers of Italy had ripped off all the fingers of his right hand to prevent him from painting. Th...

Murshidabad—A Historical Adventure! || Part 3: Fouti Masjid

Fouti Masjid has a very pathetic yet a glorious story behind its construction. Legend has it that Nawab Sarfaraj Khan’s father used to send tax to Aurangzeb through his son. One day, while on his way to Aurangzeb’s grand palace, Sarfaraj met with an old beggar woman and, out of pity, gave her one coin from the tax money. When Aurangzeb found out that one coin was missing, he immediately reported it. On receiving the complaint, Sarfaraj’s father had his son called in right away and enquired about...

Murshidabad—A Historical Adventure! || Part 2: Katra Masjid

Katra Masjid was the capital of the first nawab, Murshid Kuli Kha (1706-1725). It had the name Munshod Awad some 300 years ago. Murshid Kuli Kha was not a muslim by birth; he was a converted Islam. He was actually a Bahmin with the name of Sudarshan Narayan Mishra and his father was Darpo Narayan Mishra.
