Scarcity vs. Abundance

A beautiful harvest
I believe that happiness and well-being are inside-out and not outside-in. Another way of saying this is that happiness remains elusive until we get that it has less to do with what is going on outside ourselves and more to do with what is going on inside. It is a place we “come from” rather than a place we “get to.” Understanding and practicing this principle is life-changing.
In this article, I want to talk about two places we can live from. Neither of these places is re...

The Power of Grace
(This article was written by guest author Cindy Clemens and was first published in Etched Magazine Nov/Dec 2018)
No one is perfect or acts like a complete angel all the time. However, being graceful means that you put your best intentions forward with everyone despite what you have heard or what they have done to you. Grace is doing what is right, not what is easy. – Kim Moseman
I have to be honest. I’ve never been very clear about the concept of grace. Growing up I heard about grace in ch...

Take a Chance
Yahtzee is a dice game. The game is played by rolling five six-sided dice to make certain combinations. The dice can be rolled up to three times in a turn to try to make one of the thirteen possible scoring combinations. During each turn a player can “freeze” one or more die and roll the others. A game consists of thirteen rounds during which the player chooses which scoring combination to pursue. At the end of the thirteen rounds, the player with the highest score wins.
Why, you might ask,...

You are Smarter Than You Think

Funny portrait of a cute baby girl in glasses lying over a big book
Your brain is incredibly powerful. Consider all that your unconscious brain does without you even thinking about it—your respiration, the beating of your heart, digesting your food, healing from a wound or illness. It is the most complex and incredible machine, if I can use that word, that exists.
Not only is your unconscious brain incredibly smart but your conscious mind can do far more than you realize or allow. But, unfort...

Not only is your unconscious brain incredibly smart but your conscious mind can do far more than you realize or allow. But, unfortunately, most people fail to use their minds to their capacity.

Strategies to Overcome Depression
In my last blog I talked about depression, its nature, symptoms and causes. In this post, I am presenting strategies to overcome depression.
The good news about depression is that it is the most treatable of all mental disorders. In fact, 80% of people who suffer from this illness will achieve substantial, if not full recovery, within a few years of the initial diagnosis. Many will improve through self-treatment. Many from talking to a professional, sometimes taking a medication.
Below are s...

Understanding Depression
Margaret collapsed onto a couch after sending her kids to school. She could hardly make sense of her jumbled thoughts. “I’m exhausted.” “My husband is too busy to notice.” “The kids don’t help.” “I never get time for myself.” “I’m so lonely…but there’s no one to talk to.” After several minutes she looked at the clock and willed herself off the couch to head to her retail job, reminding herself that she had a pretty good life. “Then why am I so unhappy? Why does everything feel like such a ch...
