Meet My Office
The ache for home lives in all of us. The safe place where we can go as we are and not be questioned.—Maya Angelou
Welcome to my new office. Late July I pulled furniture out of a tiny storage unit where it had been living for nearly a year and moved into this space.
You may recall seeing photos of my former office in August 2018. I went fully virtual with my therapy practice when the pandemic hit, so I reluctantly moved out in August 2020. I was sad to let it go.
As things began to look “normal” again, I searched high and low for another charming space close to home. I love crown molding, high ceilings, and good light which is hard to find in DC’s modern office buildings.
This one has all that plus a closet and wood floors and which makes me happy. It’s also nestled next to Emissary cafe which serves the best matcha lattes and avocado toasts. Oh, and it’s a four-minute commute!
All the furniture from my former space fit seamlessly. I only needed to purchase a bookshelf {shown below} as my first space had built ins. My life is overflowing with books so I needed to give these a proper resting spot.
Creating a sacred space that calms, nourishes, and offers room for contemplation has always been my goal with the yoga studios, therapy offices, and even my home.

A Peek into Paris
On September 1, I boarded a plane headed to Paris. Despite a slight ground hold due to Hurricane Ida, I sank into my seat and exhaled as we finally ascended into these cotton candy-colored clouds.
I booked this trip in May when France reopened its borders to Americans and things were looking “normal” again. Despite wearing masks in shops, COVID tests, and showing my vaccination card at all restaurants and cafes, Paris was Paris. Charming, as always.
It had been an excruciating 10 days leading up to the trip due an unexpected and heartbreaking loss, so it felt important to keep the travel plans. Paris is soul balm. You’ll see why in the photos below.
In last week’s TDJ Live (replay here), I shared seven takeaways from my experience and observations while walking 25k steps per day, sipping many cups of tea, eating cake for breakfast, listening to three live jazz shows, and catching up with a few friends.
While my heart has much more healing to do, this trip to my favorite city offered a chance to pause, sip, and savor.
