Day 3,504: A Momentous Day

Joy is (basically) old enough to sleep in the bed with us! …we think. We hope. We’ll see how it goes. We can put her back into her kennel if it doesn’t work out…but, she’s in freaking heat right now, so she’s wearing a diaper anyway. Here’s the thing…

SHE IS SO READY TO SLEEP IN THE BED WITH US, lol.

She’s next to me right now, passed the fuck out. Curled up, snoozing like a perfect pup. Like she’s slept here every night of her life. I love her so much.

I’m wiiippppeeedd out. So tired. ...

Day 3,503: Only Gold

Home.

Absolutely WRECKED right now because of the jet lag…but this too shall pass. I was able to stay up till bed time. Hopefully that means I sleep through the night. Fingers crossed for me, folks. It’s quite the time difference. Nine hours. Though…it could be much worse. There are other places in the world that are even tougher, I’m sure. I simply haven’t been to them.

Wow.

Brain. Shutting down. Must. Sleep.

Night night.

Day 3,502: Errands

Twas one last day in Paris today. We did SO MUCH. Presents. Food. Carrying home clothes for JJ. We’re all sweaty in bed right now because we just spent the last hour packing. Weight limits are TRICKY. We’re leaving two bottles of wine at the hotel room. Sigh. They just won’t fit. They put us over the weight limit. Good thing it’s the two bottles that we got for free from one of the wineries that we visited. Not like it was a purchase and I have to leave it behind.

Dinner tonight was amazing. ...

Day 3,501: Hot Train

It was hot today on the train from Dijon back to Paris. But we made it!

Woke up hella early compared to when we went to bed. Five hours of sleep I think? AND…ate a quick breakfast to go and ride for ten miles. TEN. MILES. (…on an e-bike, but still). Unfathomable just a few days ago.

We had one last group activity: a guided tour of the Hospices de Beaune which dates back to the 14th or 15th century (I can’t remember which). VERY impressive. There was a polyptic there commissioned by one of ...

Day 3,500: Lit

Man. We shut Beaune DOWN tonight. I…honestly had no idea we were going out. Twas sprung upon me, but once it was, I was honestly down. We went out with our two team leaders for this trip, and we had a blast at the downtown “club,” which was really a wine cellar that was probable three hundred years old, but there was a bar, lights and a DJ and that was all we needed apparently to stay out until 2 in the morning, which is what time it is now.

I’m so tired. Lol.

Solid ride today. We got up o...

Day 3,499: Hawt

Y’all it is HOT here in burgundy.

Did the morning ride, but skipped the afternoon one because I would have roasted. That was the WISE decision. Took a little nap. Clutch. Did some wine tasting at the Hospice de Beaune, which is a FIXTURE of the burgundy region. It was down in their maaasssiiivveee cellar. Two million bottles down there. I had a couple that I really loved. Might go back tomorrow and buy a couple.

Then…dinner. Which was great. Everything here is super fancy. Like, every sing...

Day 3,498: Four Poster

Sleeping tonight in a four-post bed complete with canopy. I think that’s a first. This place is INSANE. It used to be an Abbey. Now it’s a hotel. It’s hundreds of years old. Wild. The grounds here are INCREDIBLE. Just insanely gorgeous, nestled up against the base of these hills, surrounded by forest, a pod, expansive lawn with wild daisies growing in it, a resident cat, running stream…nuts. Beyond nuts.

Rode another 30ish miles today. Tell you, that e-Bike is still a game-changer. Lunch toda...

Day 3,497: 37 Miles…

Again, today I rode further than I’ve ever rode on a bike before: thirty-seven miles. One biiiiiig caveat here: it was on an e-Bike. Lol. Man. That shit is SO MUCH EASIER than a normal bike, omg.

I was dyyyinnggg yesterday from the 26 mile ride on a normal bike. Dying. I was legitimately afraid that I’d completely worn out my legs and I was going to be hobbling for the rest of the trip, but one: no, the legs were totally fine, no hobbling—just some stretching, some cold water on them, and a g...

Day 3,496: 26 Miles

I…rode a bike further today than I have ever ridden a bicycle. WITH INCLINES. 1,600 feet of them, in fact. I am very, very tired. BUT…the legs held up, I think. I hope. We’ll see tomorrow. As of right now, they’re fine. Hopefully they remain that way by morning. Tomorrow I get an eBike—which is supposed to be what I got today, mind you, but there was a little snafu. Can’t wait for that. No need to bicycle that far ever again without months of training beforehand. Whew!

Dinner was at a Micheli...

Day 3,495: The Mustard!

We made it to Dijon. An adventure! To be sure. But, here we are.

Taking the train was actually magical. So fast. So smooth. Got here in no time. Didn’t even have to take a nap. The station in Paris we left from was also pretty and PACKED. People actually use trains here. They’re not fucking empty like train stations in the US. Except for commuter trains in rush hour traffic. This station was packed alllll day. And we were there for a few hours 😛 Better to be early than late, ya know?

Count...
