Day 3,687: Cozy
I don’t know why, exactly, but tonight is a cozy night. The coziest night I’ve felt in a while. Pups are extra snuggly. We watched a movie together and I ate spaghetti and had a glass of wine. And now we’re in bed, gonna go to sleep early, and maybe read for a bit. Just…cozy.
I miss Coco. Been thinking about her a lot lately. Just…missing her. I miss being able to show her how much I love her multiple times a day. I miss how cozy she felt at all times. I was never alone, because Coco was alwa...
Day 3,686: Butter Horse
Wow. We watched the first genuinely, bonafide, no-excuses, terrible Hitchcock movie tonight. It was…wild. Nonsensical. Trash. Had to happen eventually, I guess.
Anyway…it is late, so this is a short one. Night night. More tomorrow 🙂

Day 3,685: Dry-Ass Cookies
Sigh. So…I learned something today: when measuring flour, you must scoop with a spoon into your dry measuring cup, then lightly level off. If you scoop it straight from the bag, like a dumbass, your baked goods will come out dry af.
I knew it was off as soon as they started cooking. I could smell it. They didn’t smell like chocolate chip cookies, they smelled like bread. I thought maybe it was because I used baking powder instead of soda. No. I got that right. Or maybe I’d used too little but...

Day 3,684: Steak!
I did it. I cooked myself a steak dinner.
Set off the smoke alarm. I’d even opened up all the windows and put the central air fan on in anticipation…but it wasn’t enough. Not by half. Sigh. Whoever thought microwave stove hoods are sufficient for cooking should be…well, not shot, but certainly something less violently-bad. It’s so stupid.
It turned out okay. Our smoke detectors are hooked up to our security system, so the monitoring company was calling me as I was a minute or two away from...

Day 3,683: Quality Ingredients
So, I want to learn how to cook a steak in an iron skillet. We don’t have a grill. That’s fine. We so rarely eat grill-able stuff, at least in the quantities necessary for a grill. So…a skillet. It’s enough for Liz and I to make a dinner to share. That’s what I want to learn how to do.
I also want to figure out a really, really excellent chocolate chip cookie recipe. Tollhouse is all fine and good, but I want something excellent. The kind of chocolate chip cookie recipe that has people being ...

Day 3,682: Billions
LONG workday today. A good one. But, long nonetheless. It felt normal, which is exactly what I needed. I didn’t quite get to bed when I wanted to last night, but better prospects tonight.
Joy just curled herself up into the blanket on the bed. Like, under the blanket. She’s passed out now, sleeping like the little wild lady she is. She’s ONE today. This is her exact birthday. We know that because of the sham rescue we adopted her from (…she was 100% sold to us from a breeder, even though they...

Day 3,681: Strategy
Netflix work is DONE. Whew. A weird thing to type given its a Sunday evening, but that’s only because it was a short week last week and there were still a few things I needed to finish so I could get them uploading. And now, they are. Woot!
I’m listening to a podcast right now as I type this that’s on Formula 1. Season’s over. Last race was this morning. 2023 was the year I kinda got into F1. I wouldn’t say I’m a super fan by any means—there hasn’t been enough competition to really get into i...

Day 3,680: Prompt
So…Wordpress has these daily prompts now, questions to answer for a blog entry. Maybe I’ll start using them. Who knows?
Liz left today. Sigh. Another month+ alone at home for me. Month, really, I guess, since I’ll be done for a week up in Portland to see the fam for Christmas. Cal’s first Christmas, and her first birthday. Can’t wait.
I need to figure out what I can get done before the end of the year. A bit daunted by that, to be honest…but I do have some time to knuckle down and do some ...

Day 3,679: Very Lucky
Man…Casino Royal is soooo goooood.
So, I finished the Brosnan Bond films, and I was surprised, you guys, to discover that I think they’re actually my least favorite Bond films. I know! I’m surprised, too. I really enjoyed them when they were coming out. They were my introduction to Bond. But…and again, I’m astonished to say this…but I think I enjoy the Roger Moore films more overall, and even one of the Timothy Daltons is better than anything Brosnan did. And it’s not Pierce’s fault, by any m...

Day 3,678: Thanks
So very grateful for my friends and family today.
Had dinner at the King’s. Twas wonderful. Joy came, but she was a bit overwhelmed by all the commotion (and the food, mostly—she wanted to EAT everything that fell onto the ground), but we were still very proud of her. Niners won. Watched GBBO with Bear. I even played a set early in the day so I wouldn’t miss playing one. I think I’m on a three or four day streak. I want to keep that going.
Love you all. Thank you for letting me be a part o...
