Day 3,697: A Quick
I did it. I actually woke up on time and went out and did my morning writing routine. Aaaaahhhh. It felt so, so good. I’m back. I mean…just in time, basically, to leave town for the holidays, but that’s okay. I’ll take what I have for now and make plans for getting back on task after the new year when that time comes. What matters is that I did it today.
That’s really all I have for you tonight. Pups are snug. I am too. Time for a good night’s sleep. Maybe some reading first. Night night.

Day 3,696: Mater
K, so I watched the 1977 version of Suspiria tonight. It was…also wild. Very much more in a way of its time, just like the new one is, I suppose. Which is to say, it was much more a slasher film plus. Mostly slasher stuff, but with extras. Extras like a really intense soundtrack (apparently supplied by a beloved prog rock band called Goblin), super intense, vivid colors, and the occult in the climax. Not particularly scary or disturbing by our standards today, but that’s always the case, isn’t i...

Day 3,695: Mother
So—can confirm: Suspiria does bring an acceptable amount of noise. It’s not perfect. I’d say a good portion of it doesn’t quite work in the end. But enough of it does, particularly for someone who’s fully intending to now go and watch the original version of it…and to kind of dive into the Italian director who made it and I thiiiink maybe this whole idea of the “Three Mothers” to begin with? Maybe? THAT shit I am suuuuper interested in; really compelling mythology. *I* want to come up with myths...

Day 3,694: Brut Nature
The Joy; she press so hard up against me at night. It fills me up. Dogs (and cats) are so devoted to us. If you give them love and attention, take care of their needs, you are everything to them. The whole world. It’s so wonderful to be needed like that, and in that special, simple, easy way that they need us. Its so different from a human, right, because we’re so much more complicated. But with our animals, it’s a special kind of “needed.” We have a specifically-shaped hole inside us that they ...

Day 3,693: The Downs
I really do wish we taught more of the downs of a legendary artist’s career. I understand why we don’t: there’s only so much time, only so long you can hold a student’s attention, and there is probably the most to learn from the works that were successful…but I’m experiencing just how much there is also to learn from the struggles, from the works—even by a great artist—that didn’t turn out so well.
It humanizes the legend. It turns them into a person, and it removes the illusion or expectatio...

Day 3,692: Off
Sigh. Been “off” for a few days this week. Neck is sore (but, better today, whew). Almost have the finances all done. In a funk, nonetheless. A bit depressed, I think? Don’t really want to do anything. Watch anything. Go anywhere. I rarely get like that.
Part of it, for sure, is that I’m a little bit at the mercy of Joy’s bladder. I’ve made this bed myself, to be honest: I take her out whenever she tells me she wants to go out rather than setting a strict time in the morning and just deal wi...

Day 3,691: Trash
Tired, bit late, so it’s a swift one tonight.
Almost done organizing the finances. Not a banner year in that regard, but we SURVIVED. Of course we did. Bc we’re badasses 🙂
Joy is currently curled up HARD against me, which means it’s time for sleeps. Night night.

Day 3,690: Extraordinaire
A random video came up on FB tonight of this guy in Petaluma giving a tour of his massive Star Wars collection, and hanging in the background was this huge Millennium Falcon…and it triggered a memory for me:
I had a friend when I was younger who had the same giant model. It was HUGE. Six feet long, or somewhere around that big, pre-made with wires to hang it from the ceiling. And I remember he’d won it; he was a retired guy, a massive Star Trek fan and Star Wars fan, and he basically spent hi...

Day 3,689: Floating
A day of errands. Work permitted, thankfully. There were groceries to hunt down, returns to make, dog food to donate, a dirty car to wash, salads to procure. I started (ish) on the finances by realizing the estimated tax payment I thought I’d made I actually hadn’t. So, I made it, plus the one that was due at the end of the year. I got a quote for new insurance for the Coops, since our existing insurance is almost three times more expensive than it was last year, and it was EXPENSIVE last year a...

Day 3,688: Fresh
Fresh sheets. Did the laundry today. Fresh Ira. Took a shower before bed.
Glorious.
I really want my rhythm back. I’m going to try and capture it tomorrow, or at least start it. I’ve been getting up on time. But, I’ve fallen into a loathsome habit of going back to sleep. And by “loathsome” I really mean “deliciously cozy.” I get to have a little second sleep with the pups. I love it. But…sleeping is not writing, and I need to get my ass in gear on this next book. I have several of them to ...
