Day 3,922: Thirteen

Another solid work day. A bit more intense and hectic than I anticipated…but I was still able to get everything done that I needed to.

I think it hit 100 here today. So…don’t like that. The poor ACs we have. The one that cools our main living space just runs constantly from 9am to 8pm. HATE that. And that’s even with our temp set to 78. It’s rare that we get extended heat waves like this. Not in that they don’t happen, because they do, every single year. I just mean for as LONG as this. It’s ...

Day 3,921: Critters

I have a new rule with writing. It’s not groundbreaking. It’s something I’ve known for a long time, but for whatever reason just today, I was like, I should make this a thing: I’m not allowed to end any session—even my little ten minutes breaks—at the END of anything, like a scene or a chapter.

Starting a scene or a chapter is always the hardest lift of drafting. Setting the tone, the image, the headspace, etc is always the most work. And when I already have momentum from having written for a...

Day 3,920: Living ZZ

I’ve changed a lot since I started writing this blog ten years ago. Like…a lot. And I don’t mean who I am fundamentally as a person, or what I enjoy doing, that sort of thing. It’s always the smaller stuff, and even that’s because it’s so freaking hard.

I can set a writing goal, now, and accomplish it. Like, I’m going to write two books this year. For the first time ever. I didn’t have the most banner writing day today, but I will tomorrow. I know that sitting here in bed tonight: I’ll hit my...

Day 3,919: A Stumble

Bit of a stumble today. I did my morning session, but only got three pages out of it because I had to figure some stuff out. Which haaapppeennnss…but then the rest of the day got away from me in terms of things took way longer to finish today than I expected them to, and suddenly it was past evening writing time and I still wasn’t done with work and other stuff. Sigh.

But, that’s okay. Back at it tomorrow. Night night.

Day 3,918: Biden

We live in crazy times. Crazy, very very stressful times.

A good day today, nonetheless. I wrote my ten pages. Fucked up the home security system for a hot minute. But, it was still a good day. Night night!

Day 3,917: HAWT

Man…it was hooooottttt today. Really, really hot. It was supposed to be 97, I think, and it topped out at 100. And no breeze in the evening to blow it away. Yikes.

We stayed in all day, obviously. Took it easy. I watched racing and basketball. Hung out with the pups. Tried twice to take a nap and didn’t really succeed either time. That’s okay. It’s sleepy time now, and I’ll get a full night’s sleep. Back at the writing tomorrow! Gonna aim for fourteen straight days, I think. I have a really n...

Day 3,916: Forum Days

We had a lovely evening, Liz and I tonight. We ate food, drank wine, munched on a couple small fruit tarts from Porto’s…and watched Air Force One, which HOLDS UP. Pretty much. It’s great. Harrison Ford is great in it. I remember watching that movie in theaters and realizing a little way in that I was in over my head in terms of how tense it was going to be. I almost couldn’t handle it. Aw, baby Ira. Sweet sweet baby Ira. But I loved it.

Work was a little busier than I expected, but nothing I ...

Day 3,915: Stage!

Late, so this is a quick one tonight, but…we hit 100 pages on the manuscript today, podcasted with Josh, got all my Netflix work done…

A good day. Night night!

Day 3,914: Peer

Our plum tree is ripening right now. Last year was the first year it actually bore fruit, and they weren’t very good. Kind of tasteless. But this year, already I can tell they’re going to be much better. I wonder if it’s because the tree is just maturing into an adult, or if it’s because the weather is slightly different this year—it seems to be hot right now as its ripening, whereas I don’t think that was the case last year—or if it has to do with how we trimmed it down this spring so it’s less...

Day 3,913: Steady Now

We’re watching The Hunt for Red October, and while Alec Baldwin is…fine in it, but coming off Harrison Ford playing the same character, we both much prefer Harrison, obviously…it is sooooo goooood. The movie is SO good. I get why Tom Clancy was such a sensation. What a fun tale. What a world to suck us into, with insanely high stakes and—fictionalized, certainly—real-world intrigue.

That’s what sets stories like that apart for me, I’m realizing tonight as I sit here: when someone can pull you...
