Day 1,850: Thankful

I am so, so thankful today. It’s almost overwhelming…

I am thankful for my family. Thankful for my wife and my dogs. Thankful for my mom, my dad, and my brothers. I’m thankful for my in-laws! Lin was here today for thanksgiving, and it was wonderful.

I am thankful for my friends. Today most of all. We had suuuuch a wonderful group of people this year for thanksgiving. Good lord. Arg and K-bear of course, along with Ali who’s an Orphan’s Thanksgiving original (OG!), and even Matt came up from...

Day 1,849: Rains down in Sherman Oaks

I bless the rains down in Afri–…Sherman Oaks.

It’s raining! Always a treat down here…almost. It just rained so much where I grew up that it makes me think of…home, and it makes me think of the winter time. It never snowed in Humboldt, not down by the ocean. You had to get up to some elevation to get snow. But it rained.

It rains in Humboldt for seemingly six months straight, from October/November till April/May. Rain always meant winter time. And frost on the clear mornings that freezes the g...

Day 1,848: Deep Space 5, 6, 7, 8

Y’all…Deep Space Nine is SUCH A GOOD SHOW.

I got to hang out with Josh tonight, and we watched some more of that show…we’re still in the first season, but something Josh was asking about reminded me of a later episode and so we jumped ahead…and dayaaammm. That show gets SO GOOD. It starts out a bit rough. Not bad. Not at all. I just mean…rough. You know, around the edges. It’s not quite all there yet. Which totally makes sense, because they’re *just* figuring shit out, you know?

So good.

We a...

Day 1,847: Star Baker

The Ho and I finished the latest season of The Great British Baking Show tonight. IT WAS SO GOOD THIS SEASON HOLY CRAP.

Seriously, if you’re not watching it on Netflix, you need to get on it. It will restore your faith in humanity, and this season was easily the best I’ve seen. They were all just so good, and each so different and entertaining, and soooo sweeeet. The nicest people.

Bravo casting. You outdid yourself.

I worked full-time today. Petered out juuust a little bit towards the end, b...

Day 1,846: Weird Sunday

Man, today was another weird-feeling weekend! And I don’t exactly mean that in a BAD way…I just mean that it didn’t feel like a regular Sunday.

Maybe it was because I hardly watched sports. I watched another movie instead. Maybe it was just the way I was feeling, which was a bit melancholy in the morning, and then rejuvenated in the evening, especially after a nice walk with Liz and the pups. Or maybe it was that for the first half of the day, I should have taken allergy drugs, but I hadn’t.

...

Day 1,845: I dunno

I dunno what to title my entry as tonight. It was quite a day…which is odd to be feeling like, because I truly took it as a day off…

But, let’s see: I watched the film Hereditary today, and that made me think about a lot of things. “Things,” like all over the place kind of stuff. For example: on one hand, the movie was very, very effective and truthful at showing a family dealing with tragic, deeply scary, life-changing grief. That’s something I have personal experience with, and what they we...

Day 1,844: The 15,000-foot View

Perspective is a very, very valuable thing.

I was going through my manuscript today, really feeling down about it because it just felt like there was soooo much about it that wasn’t working. It’s a steaming pile of crap. It’ll never be fixed.

I actually finished the step of reading through and taking notes, and I stepped out to eat some lunch (always a good idea whenever I’m feeling like a failure!), and came back to tackle the second phase of the rewrite project: going through each scene and...

Day 1,843: Shiiiiiitttt

Shiiiiiittt…I am WIPED yo.

Two days of watching the building and trying to get writing done…wiped out.

Today I probably got the same amount of actual work done as I did yesterday, but for whatever reason my mindset was soooo much better. There was just a lot of stuff today that kept me from butt-in-chair time. And there’s nothing I can do about that. Gotta do what I gotta do.

I’m a couple hours of work away from finishing this first revision step, going through and reading everything. The sto...

Day 1,842: How the Sausage is Made

Today was most frustrating on the writing-front. I struggled early on because of getting up a bit late, not having a rigid schedule, and the building taking away some of my focus and energy.

BUT…I did rally, and I did get three hours of work in. Not bad. Not great, but not bad. That does put me behind, but not too much. Tomorrow, I must rally again and get through the rest of the book, and then dive into what’s next: writing up scene cards for each of the scenes in the book.

I am actually gla...

Day 1,841: gs;fljkhgfsD

Today was the opposite of yesterday in terms of writing productivity, but there was a very solid reason for that. An external reason.

I had stuff to do for the building today. Some important stuff. Stuff that I’d been waiting a while to take care of. So, mission accomplished. It was productive stuff. I hope.

Sorry to be vague on that; it’s just not my story entirely to tell.

In other news, I reworked my writing schedule slightly. I’d been planning to work Friday through Tuesday each week, so...
