11 Laws of Likability- Review Snippet

The 11 Laws of Likability: Relationship Networking . . . Because People Do Business with People They LikeThe 11 Laws of Likability: Relationship Networking . . . Because People Do Business with People They Like by Michelle Tillis Lederman

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Loved reading about the 11 laws of Likability!

The book is broken up into 11 chapters- one for each law that explains how best to be succeed by being authentic, warm, generous and socially savvy: in essence by being ‘likable’. I deter from saying ‘nice’ because the adjective smacks sometimes of being synonymous with a pushover or doormat.

I really enjoyed the book and can’t wait to write a longer review of all the points I loved and those that I can’t wait to try out.

Why I Schedule Tweets Daily via Hootsuite

Anyone who uses Hootsuite will wax eloquent about its many uses, bulk uploading features, ability to schedule into the future and so on. It’s great.

But I use Hootsuite differently. I only schedule for the next day.

What! You may exclaim. Why would I limit myself in such a fashion?

Simple. Because I use it in conjunction with my focused inspired reading time.

Content Curation with Hootsuite + Targeted Reading = Happiness + Authenticity !

You may be rolling your eyes at the above equation but it really is simple. I use my cab commute time or sometimes even when I am traveling standing in my suburban train to get through my list of articles. These are from email lists that I get.

For instance I am subscribed to Forbes Women, Entrepreneur, LinkedIn email lists and of a few other thought leaders. (I simply unsubscribe from lists I did not read for over a month.) I simply look  in my inbox to articles like this:

I choose the ones I really want to read and actually read them. Like this excellent tip to conduct more efffective meetings:

When I finish absorbing the article I sinply open the Hootsuite app, conveniently on my phine’s home page to a page like this:

The best part about scheduling it is that I am forced to summarize the article in my mind to decide on a good comment or byline to share with my Twitter followers. This of course helps me with digest and absorb the recent nugget of information I’ve just imbibed.

Then I schedule the tweet with the article link for the next day.

Since we can see the times and content scheduled on the app itself I can space my tweets to the duration and particular time I want.

This is my content curation strategy – simple , convenient and keeps me authentic as I only share articles that I already read and loved.

I have to point out that I also schedule my own content , usually one of my own followed by one from sources I follow.

While the strategy is not unique or useful to everyone, this is the great thing about scheduling with a tool like Hootsuite. You can experiment and home in what works for your own needs and work with your constraints and  preferences.

How do you schedule your tweets? What are some hacks that you absolutely cannot survive without? Share your thoughts and tips in the comments below.

Monthly Reading Roundup: February

March – the third month of the year is up upon us and it’s a little hard to think that we are close to ending the year’s first quarter. It seemed like only yesterday we rang in 2019 with new resolutions and an intent to start afresh but in the blink of an eye- we are already close to Daylight Savings, Spring (hopefully) and hurtling towards quarter closing and tax returns.

That’s why I believe in small changes and track my  progress, however incremental. A few steps still are better than nothing, and always superior to  frozen inaction.

A Year from Now

You’ll wish You’d have Started Today!

-Karen Lamb

Hence, my charting of progress on Goodreads; my updating monthly of where I am with my reading goals. It keeps me accountable, adds motivation, and helps me stay on track.

With that preamble, it’s off to my favorite form of posting – lists.

Books I Read in February:

The first and possibly largest book I finished in a while is Becoming by Michelle Obama. A memoir yet inspirational text for women, this is an honest yet hopeful account of life as an ambitious student, a career woman who rose despite the inequalities and biases faced by women, the struggles and triumphs of being a working mother, the challenges of becoming a political spouse, and the balancing act of gracing the role of the First Black Lady! I found many passages that resonated with me and many that made me think long and hard. Definitely am sure that most of her readers will agree that her writing is   gripping , honest, heart warming, resonant and inspirational all at once.

The 5 Second Rule was another book that I completed. An ebook I started in January, I finally finished it in the shortest month of the year. An interesting read explaining the ‘5 Second Rule’ concept , it was filled with many examples of application to demo exactly how to apply the strategy to all walks of life. A self-help and motivational book, my only complaint is that it could have been a bit shorter given that it revolved only around one single point.
The third book of the month is a Classic: ‘The Mysterious Affair at Styles’ . Technically it should go under re-reading since I first read it in my teens. But it had been so long that I simply could not recall  much of the details. Also, re-reading totally counts on Reading Challenges so am happy that I revisited such a wonderful text from the Queen of Crime.

This month’s reading is as follows:

The Gift of Failure by Jessica Lahey
The Art of Start by Guy Kawasaki
Get It! By Jacqueline and Jene

So what are you reading right now? What books are you engrossed in and what did you  you finish? Let me know in the comments below.
