I Had A Lovely Blooming of Lilies This Summer

All of the lilies I grow in premium potting mix, in pots and keep them in the same pots year after year. They increase in size, and have more blooms and new growth the next year. They typically like a slightly sheltered spot here, next to the house with their heads in the sun and roots in the shade. They flower reliably here for years, with very little tending apart from a weeding and a sprinkle of water every day.

The Asiatic lilies don’t have any scent, but they make up for this with their hardiness and bright colours, and not being fazed by our heat. The Oriental lilies have larger blooms, less per-stem but carry a beautiful fragrance. My favourite is Oriental Trumpet lilies which mixed the hardiness of trumpet lilies with the beauty of the Orientals.

The Asiatic Tango Lilies flowered very nicely in December at the same time as the feverfew. The Amazing potted Trumphinator lily in her second year flowered for 2 Months, with her intensely fragrant blooms! A real treat! She’s my favourite lily! She’s an Oriental Trumpet Lily.Pretty Tango Asiatic lilies – Tango Twosme. Plus lovely Oriental Trumpet lilies with their intensely beautiful scent.Lovely potted Asiatic Lilies.

Heaven Scent 🌸🧚‍♀️

I was speaking psychically to my lilies and the fairies said they carry the Scent of Heaven. It is a particularly heady intense Scent that pervades the whole garden space in a delicious aroma. That seems more like a state of transcendence rather than just a scent.

I further comversed with the pink Belladonna lilies and they said they carry an intense Scent of love and nurturing from Heaven. So that in some ways, explains the sometimes otherworldly Scent of the lovely lilies in your garden. They are meant to have a Heaven Scent, to remind us of our beloved eternal home in Heaven and the love that is always present there. A love that is always available to us now. 🌸🧚‍♀️ It is the humble lily that reminds us of this.

Six on Saturday – Feb 🌸2🌸24 – The Calm After The Rains

Hello lovely Six On Saturday gardeners! This is my first post for 2024 after taking a summer hiatus from the social media roundabout. Even a change of routine can be as good as a holiday!

We have been enjoying generally milder summer temperatures this summer, with colder nights which is great for sleeping. With the exception of a few tropical weather fronts from the north of Australia which caused unsettled thundery humid weather. This was a quite uncomfortable for us in South Australia, who are more used to hot dry summers with less humidity. We had few huge weather events which gave such torrential rains that it wrecked the sides of the road in our valley, which the tractors are still fixing. The bottom of our driveway was fixed by a council grader and our garden has been set up nicely water-wise for the year. Most notable success with all this precipitation was a continuation in the spring flowering of the roses and pelargoniums in my back garden. Also the small citrus trees have been saved and their establishment assured.

I am now harvesting basil, tomatoes, capsicums, spring onions, strawberries, cucumbers, cabbage, lettuce and herbs from the vegetable garden. The Japanese pumpkins have shot off into all directions as has a watermelon, so we will see what they produce. I have planted a few heritage tomatoes this year like Black Russian, Oxheart, Beams Yellow pear and the evocative Mortgage Lifter. It was this tomato that Radiator Charlie paid off his mortgage with in America. He had a radiator repair shop at the top of a hill reputedly, and also sold these huge tomatoes to the people that stopped to fix their radiators and thus paid off his house mortgage! I have to attest these tomatoes are huge beasts! I will let you know if they taste as good as they look!

I decided to plant up a row of petunia pots on the front verandah this year for some summer jolliness. I quite like this mixture of blues, purples and whites and then I added a punnet that had some pinks for a little more balance in the colours. I think pussycat approves! This is her front verandah that she likes to preside over.I love the way the Belladonna lilies emerge out of the round after a summer rain. The scent is divine!I am delighted that I have finally tracked down this lavender purple verbena that I used to have in my garden. This I used for colouring up the front of the perennial borders in-front of the roses. I lost her about 5 years ago, and was on the lookout for her every since. They are old fashioned simple flowers. This hardy form doesn’t turn up that much in nurseries, just the hybrid varieties that aren’t as hardy in my garden. The next photo is a lovely emu bush called Eremophila Summertime Blue which is a hardy pretty native shrub that flowers in the middle of summer.I found this delicious Hybrid Musk Rose Kathleen flowering to her hearts content in an abandoned area of my garden that no longer gets irrigation or tending. Evidently that suits Kathleen very well! She has lovely racemes of very fragrant blooms and makes a huge shrub of 2.5 metres. I have been taking cuttings of her to get her into my new rose garden. I loooove hardy rampant Hybrid Musk Roses! A hardy family, first bred by a rector in England. I have a few of them and want a few more!It is Agapanthus flowering time. I have a few colours flowering this year a darker blue which I think is Black Pantha, a mid blue, a Bicolour Queen Mum one and a Dwarf White one. They add a little cool blue distinction to the summer gardenscape. The delicious purple blooms of Solanum rantonetti Purple Robe flower very nicely in summer. She is particularly floriferous, after a good summer rain. A relative of the potato family. She is in a dry spot under an Almond Tree and is very responsive to a thunder storm or two.

That’s all from me.🌸 See more beautiful Six on Saturday gardens from around the world, on the Six on the Saturday tag, our host is Jim you can find his blog here .
