Sandpaper
Quicksand, treacle, stolen heart.
Shouldn’t feel like this when far apart!
Adhesive, tarmac, stuck like glue.
Should I want – or need – to be rid of you?
Sandpaper, paper cut, deeper each time.
Salt in my wounds, images in my mind.
Flame searing my skin, wire piercing through.
I’m holding on to instinct, but what if it’s not true?

What Makes A Home
Four walls alone are rarely enough to make a home. A home needs love, friendship, listening. No ornament on a shelf can bring life to a room if there is no love in it. No colour stroked on to a wall adds brightness if gentle hands do not caress. No heat will bring warmth to surroundings that lack affection. And no food eaten at the table will fill, if arms do not embrace, hold close. Home is more than our possessions, grander than anything we own. Home is not the places we dwell. It is those...

Evolution
Evolution is the change in the frequency of alleles
From one generation to the next.
We’re products of genetic mutation.
Proof, that good can rise out of a mess.
Evolution favours inheritance of traits that optimise success.
A mistake once viewed up close
May one day be seen as reason, and purpose,
A better choice. Even hope.
Evolution says expression of your phenotype
Is part genotype, part environment.
So I don’t have to grow up to be like you,
My options aren’t run out or spent.
Evolution means...

Tainted By Our Choices
Tainted by our choices is a contemporary romance that has flashbacks, sex, environmental awareness, and a slight fixation on dessert. Potentially all at the same time.
Meet Jack. A successful environmental officer working within an industry that is so very far from his childhood dream of saving the planet, that he no longer recognizes himself. How he’s found himself in Houston, Texas, where he has no one, and nothing but his work for company, he tells himself repeatedly he doesn’t...
#writephoto – This Hill
This hill has seen storm, and star, and snow. It has been home to grass, and beast, for turns of centuries and blinks of eyes. This hill has been look-out, and shelter, and fortress for those choosing its vantage point for protection. It isfinal resting place for so many who have passed. This hill, whose own existence began elsewhere, drifted into position by glacial movement, knows cycle, and change, and growth. This hill knows its place in...

Clueless
Daniel should have known better than to think he had the answer for everything. Or anything, really. Life had proved to him beyond a doubt that he was, in fact, clueless about so many things.
Take Keith. Well yes, Daniel thought to himself, blatantly watching the pull of muscle beneath Keith’ shirt as he reached over to grab the ketchup as they indulged in the burgers they normally only met up for on Sundays mid-week; he would happily take Keith in every which way possible, and ways he hadn’t...

A Restless Heart
An insistent knocking on Tyler’s door had him startling awake, irritation blasting through him as he pushed his way up from the couch. He was sure he’d only been asleep a little over an hour. Tyler was so used to not sleeping when he tried to go to bed, that he’d taken to snatching whatever he could whenever exhaustion took its toll. He pinched his eyes wincing for how gritty they were, grinding his teeth and telling himself not to be furious with the person on the...

As Nature Intended
When you first learn that you are an Omega, you learn all sorts of things you never imagined you would need to know when you were growing up. The essentials: Heat suppressants, scent masking, how to handle an Alpha that is scenting you, and of course, the laws that are in place to protect you, in a society that is accepting and progressive, yet still has elements of its attitudes stuck firmly in the past. You also learn that through no fault of your own, or conscious effort, it is...

Wonder
If my honesty seems suddenly out of the blue,
If the words I write are a surprise,
If they resonate, sound alarms, or strike a chord,
If you’re wondering, yes. It’s to you this applies.
For a moment I imagined something magical,
And that moment ceased far too soon.
If you’re wondering why I’m choosing now to divulge,
Don’t they say speak of wonder, once in a blue moon?
