Non Believer

You are no messenger of god.
I don’t believe in the words that you say,
Or the existence of your source,
So take your fake proclamations away.
I have no donkey to speak to me,
Nor one willing to carry my load.
There is just me on this broken path,
And I’m fairly sure I took the wrong road.
Do not speak as though eons of knowledge
Flow steadily, dripping from your tongue.
There is no guidance from your good book
Showing how this battle can be won.

Torrent
On a morning walk,
In the depths of green
Comes crashing a torrent of
Replenishing blue;
At least, it would be blue, were it not for the storm bringing bark and branch and brown in deluge to an otherwise peaceful scene. Beautiful, but also a warning that Nature came first and will claim all again.

Internal Monologue
‘Be careful what you wish for’ might have once seemed good advice,
But it’s not quite the sentiment and therefore won’t suffice.

Remember feeling that you were lonely and that no one understands?
You kept it in, you shut them out, and now, who holds your hand?
Remember certainty that you were never good enough?
Well look at what you’ve missed out on...

Marked

The mark appeared on the inside of his wrist on a Tuesday morning, forming in his bleary-eyed vision as he slowly woke. At first, Adam assumed it was nothing more than yet more evidence of the hazards of being clumsy, dragging himself up to sit to begin the latest game of guess my bruise. But as he blinked his eyes, even rubbed the heels of his hands against them to rid him of sleep, the mark stood out clearer. It was a vague crescent shape with one point thicker than the other, giving him t...

Angelic

The seraphs called out from on high,
And the guardians shed their wings.
The archangels bristled with righteous indignance
At the massacre of all things.
To take arms up against one another,
Spill the blood of foes in the name of kin,
Seek glory in death, relish in power,
Is surely the deadliest sin.

No Way Out

The key turns in the lock of the front door and even from all the way up here, through wood, metal and plasterboard, it revs the engine of your heart, pounding it into fearful fight or flight life.
The duvet, moments ago warm and faking safety, now feels part clammy with fear and part shackled prison.
You’ve timed it. From key in door to foot in bedroom doorway takes around four minutes. So you have four minutes to go over your options.
One, lay there, pretend you are asleep. Someti...
