Pour

Empty yourself into me and I’ll not spill a drop.
No part of you will go to waste.
You would fill me, overflowing, with no desire or will to stop,
And I wouldn’t pull back: I am mesmerised, imagining your embrace.
You pace me, sparkle for sparkle, like gemstones, dazzling,
We glint in sunlight, moonlight, by candle flame,
No other sensation could ever replace the feeling you bring,
There is no way to enhance your steady frame.
While you contain all that’s good within,
I let it evaporate into thin air, un...

Retain

Since the new guy’s embarrassed wince when he’d slammed back the meeting room door ten minutes late, Jack hasn’t really heard a single word. How is he supposed to retain a single thing when he is sitting opposite him, still flustered and so adorable for it. He’s dropped his pen twice, and Derek, the guy from IT, has rescued his cup of water from spilling, deliberately putting it in the middle of the table and out of his reach. He doesn’t even know his name yet, but Jack definitely thinks this gu...

Two Bodies

Somewhere beyond the sea… somewhere waiting for me… my lover stands on golden sands… and watches the ships that go sailin’…

The lull and cresting crackle of the needle in its vinyl groove is soothing. A continuous background purr as the record spins, the speakers pulse, the empty air of the room is filled with music. Two bodies slot together perfectly, hip to hip, chest to chest, turning a small circle in time with the melody embracing them, lifted by lyrics as they lean on one another.

Clock Watching

I set a dual analogue clock on my phone
So that I can span the world between yours and mine.
Each glance guessing the likely events of your day,
Clock watching for contact, feeling asinine.

Each hand ticks down all the things that you might be doing.
Every second a painful beating in my chest.
This could be the minute that you choose to discard me.
In an hour I’ll tell myself, it’s for the best.

Because time races onwards, people are cast aside,
Neglected by the life you’ve resigned to lea...

To Forget

Rebound sex is supposed to be messy. Sweat stained sheets and spit-slick lips, no thoughts other than want, no feelings but release, a momentary pause in the heartache to remind that life goes on.

This bar, just the right side of sleazy, is perfect.

A room thick with bodies, the heat from the summer sun so heavy that the atmosphere in the bar feels almost smoky, and liquor on tap to smooth the way for getting exactly what you came for.

A wall of sound that is the disembodied c...

Magnolia

You select the finest of flowers.
Silky petals, delicate perfume, stem free of thorns,
Gently rounded, rich glistening leaves
With diamond dew on a clear spring morn…

See the rest in Shades of me

No Special Occasion

This was no special occasion. Not an anniversary, or an oops, I’ve pissed you off, let me make it up to you. Or even an I’ve had a bad day, I need to feel you close to me. Just an intimate kind of evening with nothing to concentrate on but themselves.

Mark returned from his shower to find Rob asleep on their bed, one hand curled underneath the corner of Mark’s pillow and the other creeping forward across the sheets. Mark smiled; sleeping Rob wasn’t peaceful, or younger looking, or any of ...

Brownies

A shoreline covered with a skin of rock resembling the surface of brownies.
If I trip and fall, will my pale skin be mistaken for custard, or cream, and served up as a delicacy?
If I slip and stumble, landing in rockpools up to my knees,
Will I be mistaken for bramble jelly or strawberry jam, and served up on scones for afternoon tea?
