The Next Step

In the whirlwind that is after their first kiss, he knows that he’s got to keep making the decisions that count. There’s too much at stake here if he flounders; it’s like now he’s allowed himself to feel even a fragment of what he thinks he truly does for him, that all the blurred images that were once his rigid world, have been wiped clear, and everything is a sharper, brighter contrast than he’s ever dared imagine.

But what’s more important, what’s become bigger than all of that, in all...

Wishing

By the candlelight from the comfy chair,
I made believe I could see you there,
Flame casting shadows across your face.
My fingers yearn that skin to trace.
Light stubble of the length of day,
And tiredness your eyes betray,
Although, for me, you would but smile.
You’d take my hand, talk for a while.
But you’re not here, and I’m not there.
So all I can do now is stare
At candle flame and flickering light,
Wishing that you were here tonight.

Perspective

From this hilltop the city is a sea of fairylights, with a distant lullaby of soothing sounds set to lull even the most restless soul to sleep. For all the calamity seen here, there is calmness. Pockets of hope and pieces of sanctuary, strewn across a velvety backdrop, twinkling up like diamond facets, and like shining sequins, like smiles of delight when caught just in the right light. The right light makes all the difference, shifting monochrome to technicolour, and mournful tones to joyfu...

A World At Peace

There is no stone at this altar. No offerings, no sacrifice. No sense of something missing. A quiet appeal for reason and kindness, the kind of things hoped for when the world is at peace, and the only thoughts rippling through a person’s mind is about what they can give, not what they do not have. It’s peaceful here. Quiet and contented, that pause between breaths that knows with certainty what is happening, having experienced something wonderful, full of anticipation now of only good thing...

Bakery

I am not a bakery.
You cannot stand blithely at my counter,
Roving a hungry eye over what’s on offer,
Steaming it up with your heavy, hot breath,
Delving a finger into frosting that was not iced for you.

I am not a bakery.
Do not come here bemoaning too much jam, burnt corners, uneven layers,
Then sampling me anyway. And neither am I last shop-bought fruitcake at the fayre.
This is no patisserie with edible delicacies set to perfection.
I am all home-made.

I am not a bakery.
Not here for you to sna...

Permission

Todd and Eric have been fooling around together for a while now, though it’s never got beyond much more than a lot of drunken fumbling. That’s about to change…

This is NOT safe for work, just to warn you. For those of you who follow/have followed me elsewhere, you might recognise this story in another guise 😉

There are very few instances in Eric’s life where he has felt truly good about himself, but here in this moment with Todd looking at him with such adulation in his eyes, that’s...

Best Served Cold

Did you think I wouldn’t notice?
You untalented hack with a constant complex;
You aren’t the only one who can play dumb.
I’ve never been any good at chess
Though the ease of strategically moving pieces into place
Is like breathing to me,
And gardening is second nature,
So go ahead;
Try to reap from the seeds I let you sow.
You’ll soon know.
All that armoury you’ve been building around you for weeks,
I made all its weak points,
Know where to kick to bend you at the knee
And all the ways to make you lose your ...

Populace

On the 23rd of September 2012, a huge number of UFO sightings were reported worldwide. Numbers steadily increased over the next three years, and witnesses were written off as cranks, unstable, or attention seekers.

When MUFON reported a spike in UFO activity in June 2015, the general populace took no notice. Whether the governments around the world knew and said nothing or were as ignorant as everyone else was at the time is now somewhat irrelevant.

There aren’t so many of us left. Sur...
