Snow
Hello! Today’s word is snow and became a drabble.
It was odd to see the sky darkened by snow in the middle of summer, when earlier that day there hadn’t even been a single cloud. Chris left the office early since he’d not had a customer in since lunchtime, making through empty streets on his way home.
Snowflakes began to tickle at his hair and cheek. He brushed them away, only pausing to inspect one landing near the corner of his eye. Black, and crumbly, like no snow he had ever seen b...

A Whole Love
And if the skies opened,
I would climb mountains to count the stars with you.
Gather them up in our arms for safekeeping
And return them to their homes,
Then fall asleep beside a roaring fire,
Satisfied for a good deed done.
Comforted for having you around…

Weekdays and PolygonsSometimes it takes reaching rock bottom to learn who we are, who we want to be, and who we need in our lives. With a new found family, and a new sense of purpose, maybe it’s okay to learn to trust again.
A collec...
Whatever Comes First

Whatever Comes First
Matthew isn’t looking for a relationship. Ask him, and he’ll say it’s because between work and studying there’s just no time. Ask his best friend, Sarah, and the story is a little different and involves a failed relationship that left him raw.
Enter Joel, a childhood friend of Sarah’s recently back in the area. He’s not looking for love, either, but he’s not averse to the idea of a little fun. Uncomplicated and on the same page: what could possibly go wrong?

Goaded

“Jay. I am 34 years old. It is not a question of not knowing how to. Do you honestly believe that… just because I haven’t tried something before, that I couldn’t?”
Dean studies Jay’s face in that way he does when Jay knows he’s being an idiot but just keeps on talking anyway, and waits.
“Uh…” Jay stumbles, feeling lost for any kind of meaningful words.
He’s known Dean coming up to four years now, and on some days Jay still can’t work out how the two of them have become such good friends. W...

Family Dinner
There is no solace in this family scene
In which you do not belong.
They don’t know you.
They have no idea who you really are.
They thought they knew you once,
Picked out the character most you-shaped on life’s stage
And then decided that, forever after,
You can only play one part.
The jokes long stopped getting to you.
The mocking is meant for other people,
Not the cherished family member
They pretend you are.
They don’t know you.
Did they ever know you?
Do you want to be known by those
Who make your life a c...

From Coffee Shop Corners
People watching might be George’s favourite way to spend his time. Why wouldn’t he lose himself in dreaming up the loves and lives of other people to escape the mess that is his own? From this new favourite cafe corner, in the new town he’s made his home, George makes up backstories for each of the baristas. And as they serve coffee, George imagines happily ever afters for their waiting customers. But when a surprise email forces him to relive the heartache he’...
Sanctuary
Hello! Today’s random word was sanctuary.
The dusty bookshelf in the furthest corner of her grandparent’s library was a sanctuary, both for her curious mind and for discarded books so unloved. As heavy storms raged beyond her window, Caitlin would pluck four books by their spines, scatter them across the thick green rug, and flatten each out. A character from the first book would take a quest in the second, while a house in the third loomed in the distance with the villain creeping in to ...

Warm Hands

The slip of the record from its sleeve conjures just as much nostalgia as the music itself will once William lowers the needle to play. He pictures a dance floor, crowded and joyful, couples and groups dancing together though all moving as one. The first notes of the music playing transport him back there; with warm, wide hands on his hips, soft smiles in between kisses, and a voice twinning with his own in song.
The lyrics and beat continue to perform their usual time travel, leaving...
