The Only Thing That Ever Made Sense
Navy vet Aiden Cadotte might just be firefighter Beto Cepeda’s undoing. Beto thought he had left him in the past, both on the joint base they operated from in Iraq and in the parts of himself Beto has tried to deny. But when Aiden shows up while Beto is on a call with his crew, Beto is transported back to a time when he wanted things from Aiden he could never let himself have. What is stopping him from having those things now?
Beto is. Because despite A...

Wasteland
The city was a wasteland. A crumbled facade of happier times, broken down into little but rubble and dirt. Lived had been lived here. Hearts mended and broken. Families raised only to be torn apart. The air still held the echo of gunfire and bombs falling, shrieks of fear captured even though they could no longer be heard.
Beneath that rubble, that stillness, came the gentle thudding of a still-beating heart. Concrete clacked and clinked as an arm pushed through, reaching out to unfurl finge...

The Only Thing That Ever Made Sense

After two army tours and a year serving as a firefighter, Beto’s life is exactly where he needs it to be. But a surprise encounter on a call brings back painful memories, this face from his past a reminder of parts of himself Beto has tried to hide. How did he ever think he could live a life without Aiden in it? And will Aiden give him the second chance Beto needs to make everything right?

In A Changing Room With A Hypocrite
The worst type of kindness is the fake kind
The sweet words,
The public encouragement,
A facade for how unpleasant you really are.
If words were clothes,
Honesty never came in your size,
Though hypocrisy fits you like a latex glove.
And it is devastating to watch
The way you trick people into
Your changing rooms believing you are kind,
Cheerleading your every outfit,
Holding up those distortion mirrors from circuses
Showing your better angles.
Surely you must have some somewhere,
Deep down,
Under all those lie...

New Book!
Hello!
Excited to shared with you that my new book, The Only Thing That Ever Made sense, is coming out on July 10th!
Beto is a former soldier now working as a firefighter and living his best life. A life that is about to be upended by a chance encounter with Aiden, who he used to serve with. So much has changed about their lives since they last met, but some things never change—like need, and want, and all the feelings Beto used to deny he ever had. Does he want to deny them anymore? Doesn...

Soaring Thoughts
You think your walls can contain us?
We are air, we are dust, we are the whisper in your ear
You pretend was your imagination.
You think your words can destroy us?
Words are war, words are warriors, and words are also
The building blocks we use to start again.
You think your wrath can devastate us?
Thinking is smart, thinking is education, but thinking
Isn’t a skill that you’ve apparently mastered
We have rebuilt on the the backs of nothing
And we have moved mountains to start again
Like birds ...

Investigation
The atmosphere in the shopping centre since the announcement of an investigation was bemused. Curiosity laced through every conversation, attention turned to every familiar face in the mall.
The oil on canvas painting always appeared out of nowhere, on the same back wall on a spot obscured by CCTV. Though how remained a total mystery; staff could see people walking around that floor section all day long without the footage even jumping.
Today’s was one of a lake house, three members of th...

Your Coxswain
In the way that all cowards do
You stay loud in your silence,
Guiding the intricate taking apart of a character
With subtle nudges and hints.
Like a coxswain
Commanding the oars of misinformation and cruelty
To slice open wounds with a sleight of word,
You only know harmful behaviour when it’s turned on you.
Oh, what a victim you are.
You bask in your smugness
Abandoning those who were once like brothers
Distancing from them like a bomb about to blast.
I hope they do.
Being targeted for hate
And having the fl...

Penny
It’s supposed to be lucky to find a penny. Find a penny and pick it up, or something. So Simon does just that, stops in the middle of the street like some eager magpie, bending down to retrieve his new shiny. Which is when someone steps out of the florists and bumps into him, leaving Simon sprawled out face down. A courier doesn’t see him in time so rides right into his side. And when Simon tries to stand up he puts his hand straight on a shard of broken bottle glass, groaning in defeat. “I’m go...
