Aglaia Absolute ~ Aglaia odorata Lour. (Organic)

This small tree produces petite golden-yellow, oval shaped flowers with 6 petals. The number 6 holds the energy of structured dynamism, the ability to spontaneously respond to the moment, and allow that feedback to restructure self. In the Chinese culture, Aglaia flowers represent fortune because its little flowers look like rice grains and are believed to bring wealth and good luck.

Named after the Greek goddess Aglaia (pronounced uh . glai . uh) one of the three Graces and daughter to Zeus she brings the principles of beauty, refinement, peace and cooperation, into our everyday lives. She is known as one of Venuses favored companions and a reflection of her traits. Franceso del Cossa (1469-1470) Salone dei Mesi famously depicted Venus, the goddess of love presiding over April, with Mars (the principle of aggression in part) chained at her feet, doves (peace) fly either side of her head and favored companion Aglaia by her side.

During the Renaissance the dance of the three Graces--Aglaia (personifying Radiance), Euphrosyne (Joy), and Thalia (Flowering)--expresses the idea that any deed we do will come back to us. Paraphrasing Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472) who expressed, since one of the sisters gives, the other revives, the third returns the benefit, one learns the dance reciprocity. Frequently depicted hands interwoven in a circle implies becoming whole, the spontaneous, unmerited gift of the divine favor, the divine influence operating in humankind for regeneration and sanctification. A state of grace.

Folk Wisdom:  Cooling for fevers, helps painful menses, soothes rheumatoid arthritis and general toxicity. Deeply relaxing, restorative, and calming. Traditionally used to boost moods, balance emotions, bringing peace, calm, and invokes a state of blissed-out grace.

Cautions: Never take internally.

Skin Support: Antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and astringent. Boost collagen production and protects the skin from environmental damage and rapid aging.

"In the course of our continuing search for novel cancer chemo-preventive agents from natural sources, we have carried out a primary screening in vitro assay of the compounds isolated from Aglaia odorata. Consequently, aminopyrrolidine-diamides, odorine and odorinol, were obtained as active constituents. These compounds exhibited potent anti-carcinogenic effects in a two-stage carcinogenesis test of mouse skin induced by 7,12-dimethylbenz[a]anthracene (DMBA) as an initiator and 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA) as a promoter. Further, both compounds showed remarkable inhibitory effects in two-stage mouse skin carcinogenesis models induced by nitric oxide (NO) donors such as (+/-)-(E)-methyl-2-[(E)-hydroxyimino]-5-nitro-6-methoxy-3-hexenamide (NOR-1) or peroxynitrite as an initiator and TPA as a promoter. From these results, it was concluded that odorine and odorinol inhibited both the initiation and promotion stages of two-stage skin carcinogenesis."

White Rose Otto Essential Oil ~ Rosa alba (Organic) ~ On Sale

"This white rose oil is by far the purest essence I have ever encountered and a frequency unmatched. Thank you for your loving devotion to it's creation. So grateful." - Wendy,  Mnt Shasta

10 ml ~ on sale ~ $55.00

Since the earth first yielded herself and became fertile, the wild rose and the myriad of her cultivated offspring to follow, have born witness to the complexity of human life--soothing our souls, elevating our spirit, and marking rites of passage. Speaking to the proud as well as the humble, white roses are the very essence of purity, innocence and light; they also crown the victor and pay homage to the martyr. They have symbolized royal blood and nations. Above all rose is love in all its heavenly and earthy tones. The white rose represents the Virgin Mary known as the Mystical Rose of Heaven, is sacred to Venus (it is said all roses were white until Venus pricked herself and drew blood, bringing red roses into the world) and celebrated by artists. Famously Botticelli depicted Zephyr gently drying Venus as she is birthed from the ocean, with warm breath scented with roses.

Devotees of the Phrygian Cybele (mother of the gods and primal nature goddess) honored her and her cortege by “shadow[ing] the Mother and her retinue with a snow of roses” (Lucretius Carus, 2.627). Humorously in Apuleius work The Golden Ass, the hero, Lucius, excited to experience the sensations of being a bird, turns to witchcraft but by an unfortunate miscalculation finds himself transformed into an ass. He knows he can revert to his own body by eating rose-petals, but these prove singularly elusive. The roses he required were always just out of reach until the Egyptian goddess Isis made them available, who then called Lucius to priestly duty and initiated him into her rites. Many scholars believe his novel is a partial self-portrait of the author and is valuable for its description of the ancient religious mysteries (including the use of roses to undo magic gone awry) and that Apuleius himself had been initiated into that cult. The idea of sub rosa (under the rose) is an alchemical concept involving the entire process of psychic transformation that occurs in the silence of self-containment, as silence is required to enter the womb or ‘rose,’ and within these hallowed folded petals the Self is secretly conceived. And let us not forget we can use the rose to show love and affection to another, in the Victorian era, suitors sent bouquets of white roses to those they intended on pursuing to signify the beginning of a courtship. Perhaps the white rose herself allowed each individuals heart to warm and open and be ready to enter into courtship and seek pure love.

Key Physical Actions: Antidepressant, anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti - viral, anti -inflammatory. Medicinal Uses: Abrasions, asthma, blood pressure - high, burns, candida, capillaries - fragile, circulation - slow, concentration - lack of, cough, depression - post natal, eczema, fever, head ache, liver - congestion, migraine, libido - low, palpitations, rashes, stress, swelling.*

The Energetics of Duck Dippy Eggs with Asparagus Soldiers

 Recipe

1 bunch asparagus
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Extra-virgin olive oil
Butter (optional)
Garlic powder
2 duck eggs
White vinegar
Johnny-jump-up petals
Chives
Buttered toast points

Wash and break off the tough ends of the asparagus. Bring enough water to a boil in a large pan to cover the asparagus completely. Add 1 tablespoon of salt and a dash of olive oil, and cook the asparagus for 3 to 6 minutes, with the lid on, to the tenderness you desire. Drain, then immediately put the asparagus back in the pan and stir in a small amount of butter or olive oil. Lightly season with salt, pepper, and about 1⁄4 teaspoon garlic powder and toss to mix. Put the lid back on to keep the asparagus warm.

Crack the eggs into 2 separate teacups and bring to room temperature. In a large pot, bring water to a boil, add 1 tablespoon white vinegar, and turn down to a simmer. Use a whisk to create a vortex as you slip one egg (you can cook only one at a time) gently into the center. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes (adjusting as needed for altitude) and remove with a slotted spoon and drain before you plate. Repeat to cook the second egg.

Finish the poached duck eggs with a sprinkling of finishing salt and a good grinding of fresh black pepper. Garnish with fresh Johnny-jump-ups and chives. Serve with the asparagus and buttery toast points for dipping in the poached egg yolk.

Narrative: Since duck eggs are about navigating your emotions, you can use this dish to access either the bright or heavy side of those. Asparagus allows you to address heavy emotions such as depression, feelings of abandonment, recovering from abuse, and fear. Or you can celebrate due to the Johnny-jump-ups, as they bring the bright, exciting, light, celebratory aspects of being alive. Eggs also hold the energy of new beginnings and endings of old cycles that don’t feel good, so you can birth something new and wonderful.

You might serve this dish to celebrate the birth of a child, an idea, or an event when you want to revel in the wonderment of something truly new. Or you could serve this in support of ending a cycle of heaviness, either your own or someone else’s, to release dense energies that hamper joy and growth. This dish is also powerful for stopping recurring thoughts that you can’t simply will away.

Warm Wild Mushrooms and Watercress Salad = Time Well Spent

Time Management seems to be on everyone’s lips: from learning how to regulate oneself whilst working from home to managing online schooling for children to working in your spiritual/exercise/health routine. That is a lot of balls in the air! If you are accustomed to an outside structure offering support, space, and a blueprint to manage your day, this can be a quite the learning curve. Luckily we all have to eat! The following recipe helps one slow down the external and internal hustle, gives perspective, and fluidity in breaking your day into small bits you can examine and reassemble in the most beneficial way. And delicious to boot!

Watercress with Warm Wild Mushrooms

3 to 4 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil

1 to 11/2 pounds mushrooms of choice (see below for options) cut uniformly

Coarse salt and freshly ground black pepper

4 cloves garlic, chopped

2 teaspoons minced fresh thyme

3 cups fresh watercress, tough stems removed

4 tablespoons vinaigrette of choice (I like balsamic)

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Working in batches, add the mushrooms, season with salt and pepper to taste, and sauté for about 5 minutes or until the mushrooms have softened and exuded their liquid and the pan is almost dry. Remove from the heat and stir in the garlic and thyme. Taste, and if necessary, season with additional salt and pepper. Using a slotted spoon, transfer the mushrooms to a colander placed in a mixing bowl and drain. There should be no juices left if cooked correctly.

Place the clean, trimmed watercress in a large mixing bowl. Add the warm mushrooms and drizzle with just enough vinaigrette to season lightly. Apply salt and pepper to taste (if needed) and toss to blend. Serve immediately.

Narrative: When you’re feeling over-stimulated by ordinary daily events, this recipe facilitates the ability to partake in life without being swept away by the multitude of dizzying aspects that flow through your day. It allows you to firmly ground yourself, take a breath, feel solid in yourself, and condense the information all around you into usable, manageable bits.

You might serve this dish when your life is so harried you don’t know which end is up, and you see no end in sight. This recipe will create an island of repose where you can catch your breath and filter what is required of you in order of importance, allowing you to know what to move on and what to put on the back burner, creating a more manageable day. This dish tonifies the energetic body and offsets fatigue that sleep alone cannot quench.

Getting to Know Your Plant Allies

Explore the food signatures below and feel into what mushrooms are most supportive at this time and use those for this savory dish.

Chanterelle Mushroom

This aromatic, fleshy wild mushroom helps you shift the pattern of taking on too much responsibility (this looks different for everyone), pushing yourself too hard, and waking up early but feeling tired and not refreshed, leading to a dulling of the emotional body and the mind.

Cremini Mushroom

A cross between a white button and a portobello, cremini heals the energy of attacking the negative in yourself so that you can see and feel yourself in a gentler light, cultivating compassion for having those lessthan-desirable traits and allowing kindness and softness to be a healing balm to relentless self-criticism.

Portobello/Portabella Mushroom

This mushroom helps you dwell in your center and not diminish the essential parts of yourself to make another person comfortable or happy. It supports you in defining your own needs while acknowledging others’ needs.

Royal Trumpet Mushroom

Looking exactly like its name, this savory fungus instills consistency in achievement and energy output so you don’t vacillate between doing too little and doing too much. It supports time management in all ways.

Watercress

A cousin of kale and broccoli, watercress is an aquatic and semiaquatic green that’s beneficial for those who are easily over stimulated by the ordinary events of day-to-day life. It facilitates flowing awareness and the ability to partake in life without being swept away by the sensorial aspects.

Chicken Poached in Green Tea With Vegetables and Savory Broth = Good Works

This dish is all about softness both internally and externally, it helps one find peace and contentment within and supports one in understanding the best way to spread this energy.

About 3 cups chicken or vegetable broth ~ low sodium

2 Roma tomatoes ~ diced

½ cup daikon radish ~ cut into match sticks

2 - 3 cloves garlic ~ minced

1 tablespoon ginger ~ minced

1 pound mushrooms of choice ~ I used shiitake and crimini half and half

1 bunch green onion

1 pound baby spinach

2 large ~ boneless skinless chicken breasts

2 green tea bags

1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds

2 teaspoon soy sauce

1 tablespoon rice vinegar

1 teaspoon neutral oil ~ I used grapeseed

1/2 teaspoon salt

Dice the tomatoes into about ¼-inch, mince the garlic and ginger, remove the stems from mushrooms and cut into fourths, thinly slice the green onions both the green and white portion.

Next we add broth (or water) to a saucepan with the chicken breasts, any trimmings from the ginger, salt, tea bags, oil of choice.

This next part is extremely important! If you would want moist poached chicken verses dry boiled chicken.

1. Add enough broth or water to cover the chicken by about an inch, and then place the pot over medium heat.

2. Wait – patience is a virtue - without increasing the heat until the cooking liquid comes to a very low simmer. This will take a few minutes but it makes sure the chicken stays soft and tender. If you increase the heat at this point to speed up the process you can end up with tough chicken.

3. Keep at a low simmer and cook until the chicken is cooked through, it will take about 10 to 15 minutes.

4. Remove the chicken from liquid and let rest on a cutting board until cool enough to handle and shred with your fingers. I am not sure why but shredded chicken tastes better than cut chicken.

5. Strain cooking liquid through a fine sieve and save.

While the chicken is cooking, in a medium bowl, combine the diced tomatoes, garlic, minced ginger, green onions, sesame seeds, soy sauce, and rice vinegar.

Return the chicken to the broth and bring to a boil and reduce heat, add the, daikon radish and mushrooms and simmer for about 10 minutes, remove from the heat and add the spinach and stir until wilted (this happens quickly).

Divide the spinach and mushrooms into bowls, top with the shredded chicken, add just enough chicken broth to allow a little mountain of chicken to remain above the broth line, finally top with the tomato mixture.

Narrative: Helps ease uneasy feelings when you are aware that others are suffering and you are not--especially if you are unsure of what action(s) you should take to be of service. This soothing soup allows you to shine a gentle light inside and out and opens new doors of perception and a radiant heart, this allows one to see if there is a physical course of action that you want to engage in. Other times, it might come in the form of offering prayers or positive energies.

Action: Chew + sip + reflect + put into action + good seeded into the world + relief = settled contentment.

Now let’s explore the plant energies that make this possible!

Daikon Radish

The daikon, whose name means “large root” in Japanese, ranges in size from six inches to three feet. It is beneficial for those who feel guilty because others are suffering and they are not.

Cremini Mushroom

A cross between a white button and a portobello, cremini heals the energy of attacking the negative in yourself so that you can see and feel yourself in a gentler light, cultivating compassion for having those less than-desirable traits and allowing kindness and softness to be a healing balm to relentless self-criticism.

Shiitake Mushroom

A medicine and a culinary treat, shiitake promotes attunement to nature and helps you communicate with the plant and animal kingdoms. It can wake up entirely new forms of psychic energy with a sense of joy and wonder.

Tomato (General)

Tomato, first and foremost, teaches togetherness in many forms. Be it a loving family, a robust community, the dance of a relationship, a passion, or even courtship, this fruity vegetable is all about the heart. A part of this dynamic is its ability to help you be open to differences and new circumstances and joyfully embrace them.

Spinach

One of the most nutritious foods on earth, spinach supports you in nurturing yourself in a healthy way by fostering self-love, self-approval, and the ability for self-care. It’s excellent for those who feel motherless, need mothering, or miss their mother’s loving energy, as it opens you to the energy of the Great Mother.
