In China the lily is celebrated for its regal white blossoms and for what is hidden from sight. Both the fragrant flower and the bulb have the same meaning and these are frequently depicted in art as wedding symbols. The lily flower and bulb represent harmony and unity. This plant is fittingly named ‘hundred together’ for the many overlapping scales on its bulb. Terese Tse Bartholomew states: “the lily (baihe)is thus a pun for ‘hundred’ (bai), as well as for ‘togetherness’ or ‘union’ (he). ‘
Lily grace a wall in a Minoan villa from the bronze age known as ‘House of Lilies’ looking at this fresco, you can feel the strength of the bulb as it pushes up slender stalks to be crowned by a multitude of lilies. In ancient Greece this plant was sacred to Hera, Queen of Heaven, and was said to have arisen from the drops of her breast milk as they fell to earth during the creation of the Milky Way. One of Mother Mary’s many titles is “Queen of Heaven and Earth” she also is represented by lily--her energy is so entwined with Lilium candidum it known as the Madonna Lily. The Venerable Bede (673-735), Benedictine monk, wrote of the white lily as the emblem of the Blessed Virgin; “the white petals symbolized the purity of her body and the golden anthers the beauty of her soul.” In Christian symbolism, the lily of mercy balances the flaming sword of judgment and represents purity, innocence and chastity.
The calyx or cup of the lily is particularly distinct; the deep calyx of the lily is shaped as trumpet or chalice and evokes feelings of being called to or drinking deeply of the divine. A stone bust of Greco-Roman origination (1st century B.C.E) depicts an unknown Greek goddess emerging from a calyx of a lily-like flower, reaffirming, its role as a mythic container and birthplace of the divine. Carl Jung said the lily represents psychic integrity that is no longer pulled apart by affect. The alchemical lily is ‘incorruptible’ and ‘eternal,’ ‘the noblest thing that human meditation can reach.’

Frequently asked questions
What is an absolute oil?
Our organically crafted Absolutes are made using modernized technology similar to the ancient method of Enfleurage. The extraction process uses only certified organic solvents such as fixed oils and alcohol to coax the aromatic essence out of the plant material. The resulting bio-available essence, extracted very gently without added heat, captures the intricate aroma of the original plant material, allowing it to be used for true aromatherapy and skincare applications
What is the shelf life and what about heat?
From date of purchase your lip butter will stay fresh for about 3 months. Although, it probably won't last that long! Best practice is to keep it out of high heat and direct sun, it will melt. If this happens pop it in the fridge until it sets again.

Siberian Fir Essential Oil Abies sibirica
Siberian Fir Essential Oil Abies sibirica - $13.00 Buy Here
The forest, even when saturated with sunlight, is ever-moving and alive within the continuum of light and dark. Shadows playing with the light, creating images that inflame our imagination, offering dark places that are refuge for small things that want to be hidden from sight or for plants that can only grow in eternal twilight. The Siberian Fir in its lifetime can grow in excess of a hundred feet and live up to 200 years if left undisturbed. Creating homes for fauna and flora alike.
It's timber used to create homes and indeed heat these homes making it possible for frail humans to live in harsh environments. Theses deep forests encased early villages, towns, homesteads and indeed castles, within their vast reaches, the possibility of horror and being nurtured simultaneously existed. Much of our population is far more domesticated now and must travel to experience an unbroken forest that is not kissed with domestication – although it still evokes within us – the same sensations as our ancestors.
The forest holds very real physical dangers if one has not prepared to enter. Cold, wet, harsh weather, wolves, bears and wildcats. Lack of food if you do not know how to hunt or foraging without training the potential to be poisoned. The danger of getting lost and not finding your way out. While offering at the same time, the very resources we built civilization from.
Archetypally the dark forest and its exotic forces are 'outside' the inhabited constructs of daily life and thoughts. Situated on the edge of ones mind are magical forces. In fairy tales the protagonist living 'at the edge of a forest', are called to action with the appearance of an unusual presence from the forest or some enchanted animal or being calling you in as if in a dream. Here set free from past bearings the journey begins. Common themes are: loneliness, silence, entanglement, healing, regression, loftiness and obstruction, spontaneous growth, decay and knowledge. You may meet a kindly fairy, a devouring hag, a sorceresses, a libidinous satyr, the devil, wild animals, a wise magician or shaman, helpful elves, animals or plants and perhaps even an angel. Each cast in an important role as you traverse through uncharted territory.
We seek the forest when we are soul sick and in need of healing and a true path. We confront our fears, worries, and demons, by camping and hiking in remote places asking for answers to our most difficult questions. We go as a place of worship to be filled with divine-light, joy, beauty, and be taught by Nature. This quest can also take place purely on the subtle level.
Katherine Arden in her brilliant book The Bear And The Nightingale the heroine Vasilisa found refuge in the forest as a teacher with its many nature spirits, plants and animals, to learn how to escape a life that did not feed her wild-soul. Her community and her family to a degree, did not understand her, although she found her way and crafted a seemingly impossible life that was perfect for her.
“The Forest Was Quiet on the cusp of winter, the snow thicker between trees. Vasilisa Petrovna, half-ashamed and half-pleased with her freedom, ate her last half honeycake stretched out on the cold limb of a tree, listing to the soft noises of the drowsing forest. “I know you sleep when the snow comes,” she said aloud. “But couldn't you wake up? See, I have cakes.” 1 Her journey was an adventure she gladly undertook even filled with difficulties and set backs. But what hero/heroines journey is not? Her journey was blessed with grace and unexpected support as she jumped in feet first driven by faith, desire, and a developing 'knowing' that she must be doing what she was doing while not knowing what the outcome would be.
Many spiritual and psychological journeys begin, as Dante's did in the 'dark forest' of psychic wilderness. His had a difficult start being 'savage', rough', and 'stern'. Middle of the journey of his life, in a dark forest. It is horrible, tangled, and wild, and only the memory of it makes Dante scared. He did not realize what happened because his soul was sleepy and numb. Dante imagined a scary forest as a metaphor for sin. While he seeks a way out of the forest, he meets three beasts: a leopard, a lion, and a wolf. They force Dante back into the dark forest. The three beasts are allegories of three different sins: the leopard represents lust, the lion pride, and the wolf represents avarice.
Midway upon the journey of our life
I found myself within a forest dark,
For the straightforward pathway had been lost.
Ah me! How hard a thing it is to say
What was this forest savage, rough, and stern,
Which in the very thought renews the fear.
– Inferno, Canto I
Dante Alighieri – 1265-1321
Because the forest has no set routs and is ever changing anything is possible. All questions asked can be answered. All problems can be resolved. All aspirations reached. As long as you forge forward. As Robert Frost said:
“The best way out is always through. / And I can agree to that, or in so far / As that I can see no way out but through”
The only way out is through -- which it is kind of like a birth, or re-birth. It is the path to a second half of life that is deeper, and about tuning out some of the noise of the outside world and listening to that inner voice in the quiet of the dark forest.

Cucumber Seed Oil ~ Cucumis sativus (Organic)
The cucumber is a creeping vine from the melon and pumpkin family and it's original home was India, where it has been cultivated for over four thousand years. There it is associated with the moon and brings the energies of: fertility, pleasant coolness, and merriment.

Cucumber is associated with Vishnu, the preserver of the universe, especially in his form as Krishna. On Krishna's birthday in August, households are decorated with ripe cucumbers in his honor. Celebrating divine love, bhakti, the love of human souls given over completely to the divine. The Maha Mrityunjaya mantra, the Great Death Conquering mantra translation in English goes like this: “We worship the three-eyed one who is fragrant, and who sustains all living beings. May he liberate us from (Samsara) death. May he (Lord Shiva) lead us to immortality, just as the cucumber is released from it's bondage (attachment to the plant) [so shall we.]”
In Japanese folklore the Kappa is a mischievous creature, that inhabits fresh water, the size of a 10-year old child, yellow-green in color, with fish scales instead of skin and tortoise shell on their back. On the top of their head they have a hollow indentation--sara--that is filled with water. If the water spills they loose their magical powers. When encountering a Kappa, you want to trick them into bowing low, thusly spilling out their water. If you refill their sara, you may ask a boon and it will be granted out of gratitude. Due to repaying this debt they are credited with teaching the knowledge of bone settings and healing salves. A Kappa's pranks can be harmless like making noises similar to flatulence or trying to peek up a ladies dress. Although some are more malevolent and drown livestock and people, kidnap children and steal ones life force. There is one sure remedy to placate them--offer them cucumbers!
Robert MacBryde a Scottish modernist painter, work Still Life with Cucumber (1948). Was created in the ration-book, post-war era and features a cucumber. He favored fruits and vegetables during this time frame that had phallic associations or full of seeds. Cucumber is both. Beckoning fertility and abundance back to land and life.
In Robert Haas (poet laureate of the US 1995-97) Poem With a Cucumber In It, reads:
“If you think I am going to make
A sexual joke in this poem, you are mistaken.”
He instead describes the setting of the sun
“Sometimes from this hillside just after sunset
The rim of the sky takes on a tinge
Of the palest green, like the flesh of a cucumber
When you peel it carefully.”
William Cowper (1775) poem The Task: How to Grow Cucumbers reads like a poetic manual on how to grow cucumbers in a greenhouse sidestepping Englands cold and the rewards reaped:
“Indulged [cucumber] in what they wish, they soon supply/Large foliage, overshadowing golden flowers/Blown on the summit of the apparent fruit … Not so when winter scowls. Assistant art/Then acts in Nature's office, bring to pass/The glad espousals, and ensures the crop. “
Madonna and Child by Carlo Crivelli (1480) vividly depicts the Madonna robed in blues, greens and gold, hands supporting the Christ child on a plush cushion, as he holds a bird to his chest (the symbol for his future passions). Above their heads to the right and left are apples, a single cucumber hangs to the left. Many have speculated the meaning, as the artist never reveled the symbolism. Some say in this context, it implied the Mother of Christ was never touched my sin, the idea originated from a passage from the prophet Isaiah:
“And the daughter of Zion is like a booth in the vineyard, like a lodge in a cucumber field, like a besieged city.” A cucumber is a fortress, its bumpy skin and thick flesh, surrounding the seeds. Other say, the cumber is a symbol of Christ, others, redemption and resurrection.
There is a tradition to hide a pickle/cucumber ornament a Christmas tree and the person who finds it is blessed for the upcoming year with good fortune. I have found, cucumber offers broad spectrum relief for easing difficult emotional states (this plant can be understood as natures rescue remedy) renews and refreshes the physical body i.e. for exhaustion, illness, shock that drains prana. Deeply supports reengaging in life. Life spark and vitality.
Reported Benefits and Uses
Cucumber is unusually high in phytosterols, compounds that strengthens the skin's barrier function, helping to maintain moisture levels and elasticity in the skin. It's vitamin E complex of both tocopherols and tocotrienols allows this oil to protect against free radical damage and revitalize skin damage due to sun and weather. Blueberry Seed Oil (Vaccinium corymbosum L.) ~ Organic
Blueberries are perfectly round with a five-pointed star shape that is formed at the blossom end of the berry. The skin they are wrapped in – blue – is the rarest color on earth. Blue evokes other worldly feelings. Into the wild blue yonder, sky driven horizons pulling us ever forward into the future. Into the deep-blue sea, a watery realm of fascination, a reality that rivals the most vivid imagination and is almost as unknown as outer space. The fifth chakra—vishuddha--is a radiant blue energy center located at the throat that gifts clarity of speech, wit, improvisation, expressing your truth and engagement with your inner-muse. Blue is linked with eternity, the star filled skies, the beyond, supernatural beauty and and promotes detachment from earthly concerns. Mother Mary is draped in a celestial cloak of the blue vault of heaven.
The blue Hindu god Shiva—The Destroyer—reminds us all beginnings must have an end, all that is born must die, all that is must cease to be. The universal power of destruction in which all existence ends and from which it rises again, is known in him. Shiva also known as the Lord of Sleep, is often depicted asleep for when beings are tired of action, of pain, they seek the dreamless sleep, where they can enter into Shiva, the Abode of Joy. Blue is cooling, calming and promotes restful sleep, according to Charles Klotshche a color theorist.
We say we are feeling blue to describe melancholy. The blues a musical art form "that is joyful, exuberant full of upbeat rhythms and playful humor – but it’s also a deeply sad music that deals with suffering and loneliness ... “What’s fascinating about the blue note is that it’s right in the between major and minor third. The “third” is one of the defining notes within a scale, which is why the blue note sounds like it’s hovering in between major and minor. So it isn’t the sad, lyrical sound of a minor chord, and it isn’t the happy, bouncy sound of a major chord. It’s both at the same time. That’s the blues in a nutshell: hovering between one thing and the other, yet deeply rooted in both. 2
Pablo Picasso's paintings from his "blue period" show the disenfranchised in states of lethargy and despair, all painted in blue to show lack in some form: their hunger, cold and sadness. The artist Henri Matisse in his painting (1910) The Dance, on the other hand used what he called “the eye-smacking color scheme of sapphire-blue sky”, for he wanted the sky to be the bluest of blues (the surface was colored to saturation, that is to say, up to to the point where the blue, the idea of absolute blue, appeared conclusively) seems to express joyful exuberance, as dancers dance hand in hand with no care in the world. Expressing an effortless ease.
