Especially Thankful Link Round Up

Eyes Like Stars was named one of Kirkus Reviews Best Young Adult Books of 2009.

And it was mentioned in the Wall Street Journal article Literary Profiling: The Best Books To Give As Gifts (under "A teenage girl who enjoys music and fantasy fiction.")

"Newcomer Lisa Mantchev shines a bright light on the magical art of performance through the character of teen wordsmith Beatice Shakespeare Smith who, like Violet Beaudelaire of the Lemony Snicket series, is a strong-willed orphan who knows her...

Long Distance Food Cravings

To deal with this, I spend the weeks around Thanksgiving trying to recreate the Oakville Grocery Store's turkey, cranberry relish and brie sandwich. I've got everything down, save the bread, which I thi...

If you get the NYT...

Keep an eye out in the Book Review section this Sunday for Regina Marler's article "Field Guide to Fairies".   Eyes Like Stars is featured, along with Ash by Malinda Lo, Fairy Tale, by Cyn Balag, and more!

She calls ELS "chipper"... Peaseblossom and the boys would like it amended to "chocolate chipper".  ;)

Update: And the article appears online here!

Every Month is NoWriMo

But THIS year the writing stars have aligned, and I will be drafting the bulk of Theater Book 3 during November.

Cue the flailing and hair-pulling!  *L*

Now, while I haven't participated in NaNoWriMo before, I have drafted three novels and a novella, committed copyedits and run through page proofs, so here's my list of Necessary Supplies for the approaching insanity:

1) Coffee beans.  We will not actually speak of the weep-worthy situation with our espresso machine wherein it has developed sensi...

Halloween Plans (and contest reminder)

Don't forget to enter the ELS Costume-A-Character contest by Saturday... I'm giving away hardcover copies of Eyes Like Stars and a Theater prize package!

Need inspiration?  Check out Sara's entry, Lorena's, or The Theatre's Biggest Fan.  :)

Trying to keep things on an even keel (we have two dogs with varying health issues at the moment, everyone has a sniffly nose, the usual Real Life Stuffs) but the plans for Halloween are in full-force, capped with three very important words: homemade caramel...

Memo from Mrs. Edith (ELS giveaway)

With Halloween coming up, and costuming ideas percolating through my brain, I'm going to start a blog-for-a-book contest for hardcover copies of Eyes Like Stars.

To Win:

1) Pick your favorite character from Eyes Like Stars..
2) Compose a blog entry showing how someone could dress like that character Halloween (akin to my entry yesterday.)
3) Be witty. Include pictures and links to items that are actually for sale. Points given for creativity, thriftiness/extravagance, glitter, and fun.
4) Include ...
