Russian birthday greetings!
This e-greeting is becoming a very fine tradition indeed...
"Dear Lois,
All the Russian fans of yours wish You many happy returns at This Day. As traditional.
Long live the woman who invented the worlds for us and juggles them with great ease!

PS Our current artist (Ruta of http://maria-ruta.tumblr.com) is your sincere admirer just as her mother is. They both send you their personal congratulations and thanks.

Cover reveal! Mirror Dance
This one is pretty straightforward, although Ron managed to get a little innovation out of the traditional idea.

Cover reveal! Memory
This one was tricky. Ron produced four different cover presentations for it before we were done -- this one, a similar one with a grid of red lines on the profile head, a more realistic face in three-quarter view with strange things happening to the head, and the smaller sketch shown below. This one that I finally chose was actually the simplest image but, I thought, the most truly evocative.

Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen spoiler thread
It occurred to me that it might be useful and amusing to set up a thread where people who had already read the book (currently in eARC only) could talk to each other about it freely, and the spoiler-sensitive could safely steer clear. So, you speed readers (the book took me 4 years to write, you know...), this comment space is yours.
The book may be seen at:
http://www.baenebooks.com/p-2892-gent...
if you missed the note. Four free sample chapters are up there.
***
Meanwhile, someone had asked about the audio version -- there will be one, from Blackstone Audio, due to release simultaneously with the hardcover on February 2, 2016.
http://www.blackstonelibrary.com/cata...
The downloadable version, which is 99% of my audiobook sales, does not yet have a page on downpour.com but I expect one will appear closer to time. I'm not sure what the lead-time is over on that e-arm. (I know they can't have recorded it yet, because they won't have the final version in hand for several more weeks.)
***
Later: It also occurs to me this thread could be used by folks to report typos. I already have "as she forced herself though what had seemed the endless gauntlet"... Feel free to mention any others below.
Ta, L.
Later still: The file has gone to the printer, so the shop is now closed for further typo reports. Thanks, all!

eARC joy
Your happy early Lois's Birthday present (or mathom) may be seen here:
http://www.baenebooks.com/default.aspx
I had planned to presage this event with a few teaser blog posts with parts from the first chapter of Gentleman Jole and the Red Queen. Plus perhaps a few reader-warnings. But I expect readers will soon be warning each other, so that may be redundant.
I do think this may be the most marketing-perverse book I've ever written. In a world where all the hot sellers are dystopias, YA, grimdark, war stories, violence-larded action-adventure, and did I mention grimdark? this book is... none of the above.
Let's see what happens.
Ta, L. Back to reading page-proofs. Shall I put up the first scene here anyway?
A bit later: a more direct link to the Baen sample here -- generously, they offer the first 4 chapters.

Cover reveal! The Vor Game
Makes an interesting pairing with The Warrior's Apprentice.

I see it as "the strategy tree"; other interpretations possible.
(As ever, one gets a better view by shrinking the image. Does anyone happen to know how to control/alter the size of one's posted images on Goodreads? I've just been going with the default.)

Ask The Author improvement
I just noticed that the Goodreads "Ask The Author" feature has finally acquired a "Newest First" button. That was desperately needed. Yay!

Cover reveal! Barrayar
Readers are welcome to suggest what the shadow means to them. I interpret it as the shadow of the past, which looms large over the whole story, but other takes are possible...

I might get one more of these up this week, after which there will be a slowdown, but all 17 will arrive eventually. The proofreading-editing is the main bottleneck, plus I find I need to ration my reading hours these days; when I find myself reading with my left eye shut, I know it's time to quit for the day, sigh.

Cover reveal! Diplomatic Immunity
I think of this as "The Creepy Babies Cover".

So very apropos to the book -- almost a spoiler -- although it's also the one I'm most uncertain about in terms of customer response. Most F&SF readers respond to domesticity in general, and babies in particular, as if one was offering them one of these:

(Actually, some might prefer the spider...)
