Shards of Honor now on Overdrive
And another one surfaces --
https://www.overdrive.com/media/42480...
The only one of the five ebooks we placed still missing is The Warrior's Apprentice. It looks as though we might expect it to become visible in a few more days. They all went in at the same time (a month or so ago), so I have no idea why they didn't all pop up at the same time, but at least this way I get five blog posts and not just one.
As always, I'll be most interested to hear how it all came out at the other end of the hopper.
I should also add, all these titles are too old to be brought to the attention of purchasing librarians by having reviews in the professional sorts of journals librarians use for the purpose of scouting materials. The only way a library will know they are available is if someone tells them, either by an actual librarian spotting my blog posts, or by a patron requesting the title. While I have gratifyingly many librarians among my readership, I have a lot more library patrons, so my distribution is up to you, folks.
Ta, L.
(Aha. A quick check of my own local library's online catalog says they've placed a copy of The Spirit Ring. One copy, seven holds... It may be too early to see the other titles yet.)

Falling Free up on Overdrive
Yay! Its entry has appeared on their vendor page...
https://www.overdrive.com/media/42480...
As before, I would be most interested in comments from librarians and library patrons about their experiences with my titles in this format.
Three more titles are upcoming. I will post again when they surface. They will be:
Shards of Honor
The Warrior's Apprentice
"Penric's Demon"

Hugo is home...
Right on schedule.
UPS delivers...

Out of the box:

Freed!

United with its elder sibling from last year:

Thanks again to Catherine Asaro for the faithful on-site schepping.
(For those wondering, that's the 2018 Hugo Award for best series for The World of the Five Gods from the San Jose Worldcon, just arrived, and the 2017 Hugo Award for best series for The Vorkosigan Saga from the Helsinki Worldcon, the inaugural year of the best series category.)

The Spirit Ring in OverDrive
Attention purchasing librarians and patrons --
Aha. It's up at last...
https://www.overdrive.com/media/42480...
The first to appear of five titles which we have placed in the library e-lending OverDrive system, which a number of readers have inquired about. Getting the stories onboard turned out to be a non-trivial exercise in the extreme, but we seem to have finally succeeded.
OverDrive, for those unfamiliar with it, is a vendor that supplies library systems with ebooks for their patrons to borrow. (So a library must actively select an ebook for it to appear in their catalog, as I presently understand it.) It remains to be seen (this is an experiment) what effect this will have on my income stream, one way or another.
I'll post again as the others appear. And then we'll see what happens...

(Enlightening comments from librarians welcome below.)

World of the Five Gods brings home a Hugo for best series
I am extremely pleased to report that The World of the Five Gods (aka the Chalion books) was granted my second Hugo Award in the category of best series, tonight at the Worldcon in San Jose.
The whole list is here:
http://www.thehugoawards.org/2018/08/...
Many thanks to Catherine Asaro for being my representative at the ceremony, to my editors at HarperCollins especially Jen Brehl who launched the series so many years ago, and to my long-time agent Ms. Eleanor Wood for, now, decades of support.
My thanks, read out by Catherine:
"Lois says: You have surprised me.
I’ve said elsewhere that I think the series is as distinct an art form from the novel as the novel is from the short story. Series employ different structures (and meta-structures), different techniques, and different demands on -- and rewards for -- their readers than single-volume works. I am pleased that this award recognizes something readers have long known, that series are as much worth comparing as novels. Even though, from the practical side, the nominations are bit like trying to squeeze a giant squid, a camel, a catamount, a whale, and an elephant all alive into the same box, and people will certainly stick by their favorite animals, the whole menagerie is still worth a visit.
Thank you!”
Ta, L.
(Ah, I see the details of the voting process are now up:

Limnos ARC fun
Aha. My mail present for this week was my five copies of the paper ARC, aka advance reader copy or advance uncorrected proof, of "The Prisoner of Limnos". Officially upcoming from Subterranean Press, according to the back cover, January 31, 2019.
Peek at the Lauren Saint-Onge cover here: https://subterraneanpress.com/prisone...
These objects are mockups of the final book, sent out to reviewers to give lead time for the book to be read and reviews to come out before or by the publication date. (Hence why it's in my hands five months early.) For larger publishers who sell into bookstores, the sales force is out collecting orders months before the book is due out; only then is the size of the print run chosen, so pre-publicity is critical. SubPress has a different business model for these fine collector's hardcovers, with a set, limited print run and no attempt to place books in physical stores and the wasteful hazards of the returns system. (Which is a whole other essay.) So the surest way to secure a copy is to order direct from Subterranean.
In addition, Uncle Hugo's Science Fiction Bookstore here in Minneapolis will have signed copies in due course, come next February; also Dreamhaven Books & Comics.

...barely four months left of 2018...? Yeep.
